Doing a quick search on trivago I see all Scandinavian countries are rather expensive. One could book similar 4-5 stars hotels for a fraction of their cost in say Poland, Romania or other countries.
Why are the Scandinavian countries so expensive?

They are nicer. (or were pre-immigrants)

It’s expensive shipping stuff up that far north.

They have to import a large amount of their food. Being so far north limits agricultural development so it has to come from elsewhere. Taxes are high to pay for the universal welfare which works out cheaper in the long run ; if you have health cover you are less likely to ignore illnesses that could become chronic (and expensive). They also have commensurately large salaries, it only seems expensive if you come from a country with lower salaries by exchange rate. Lots of factors.

I was pricing out a few options for a vacation, and Switzerland had some of the highest prices of anywhere... but yes - the Scandinavian countries were some of the worst, especially for what you got. Everyone else explained why. The food isn't that good and the men are stand-offish. I am not sure I want to bother with that part of the world. The only thing I can say about it is that I dated a Swedish guy for a long time who was hot, blue eyed (I like blue eyes) and hung like a horse. However, he said the Scandinavians in the actual country wouldn't ever be as friendly.

I mean Im planning a 5 week trip to Europe, and I was researching Denmark. After seeing the prices of the hotels, no way no how. Rather visit Poland, Romania, Hungary and such. For what one would pay for 1 night in Copenhagen, one gets 2-3 nights in the other countries.

yep, same here r10. I watched some YouTube videos on "how to do the Scandanavian countries on a budget" like flying into Germany and buying food and taking the train / bus for 5 hours, etc... some 20-somethings were doing all this. It just seemed like a crazy amount of work for a vacation - and to save $50.

As an aside. Lmao Moscow hotels are really, really cheap right now. 5 star hotels for like 40 bucks. Not that one would travel there but still....

I think your correct question would be: why is Eastern Europe so cheap? Scandinavia isn't that much more expensive than France, Spain or the UK. We spend the summer in the south of France and the food prices are almost identical to the ones in Sweden, even for locally produced vegetables and fruit. Alcohol is cheaper. Restaurants prices are similar, but the overall quality of the food that is served is much higher in France.

The can't say "no darkies allowed," so they merely price them so only white folk can come.

Why are Scandinavians so cold & unfriendly?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 14, 2018 8:50 AM |
R25, I can guess, as I come from the cold, unfriendly Northeast US.
It can be unbearably cold in the Winter. So we Jay Walk. It becomes a habit. And we don’t stop doing so the Summer. Ditto for idle chit chat and pleasantries.
That’s my theory. Now, fuck off.
