I admit my knowledge of the original show is limited to binge watching the first few seasons over the course of a rainy weekend last fall so I don’t know a whole, whole lot and the maybe the show relied less on the Saigon/Vietnamese connection and maybe this isn’t even a big deal.

It'll be interesting to see if this will be successful in the ratings. Some reboots work and some don't. As a fan of the original I'm willing to give it a try just to see what it's like . But of course nothing can compare to the original. But who knows, I might end up actually liking it. lol

Was there something in the original Magnum that the network felt they had to preserve? Because I remember those old shows, and the only reason people watched them was because of Tom Selleck's hotness. The original was all about Tom Selleck's appeal. Nobody gives a crap about Jay Hernandez.

The original really was about the universal charisma Selleck seemed to have. I didn't see it but his TVQ was quite high with men and women. I think they'd have to go with a star athlete or similar to recreate that kind of casting.

Any love for the show? I know it's fluff, but it grows on me. Jay Hernandez fits the role perfectly, imho. Don't care much for the starting love/hate relationship with Higgins. They should just make her a lesbian, so a relationship with Magnum is off the table. If they try a Who's the Boss thing, I might jump ship.
