She scares me. I love her.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 14, 2018 4:25 AM |
She'd cut a bitch's knee.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 14, 2018 4:26 AM |
WE in danger, gurls!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 14, 2018 4:28 AM |
She was my favorite
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 14, 2018 4:29 AM |
Glad we are discussing her instead of the basic bitches of today's women's figure skating.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 14, 2018 4:29 AM |
Her mother was a piece of work too.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 14, 2018 4:32 AM |
This reminds me of when a shocked everyone and won #3 over poor dear Viola.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 14, 2018 4:34 AM |
Apparently she scored the same points as the gold medalist but a judges decision gave the gold to the basic japanese bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 14, 2018 4:35 AM |
I think you're right, R8. It was quite controversial at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 14, 2018 4:35 AM |
How do I pitch a TV show where Surya and Omorosa just stand there for a half an hour and slap each other?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 14, 2018 4:38 AM |
The. Best. That backflip move is still stunning 20 years later.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 14, 2018 4:42 AM |
Denise Bielmann had giant bush.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 14, 2018 4:45 AM |
If figure skating was just a jumping contest, then she would have won a gold. Unfortunately for her, figure skating also requires something called artistic impression and choreography.
She was really like a female Elvis Stoyko who was also a great jumper but had no artistic ability whatsoever.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 14, 2018 4:47 AM |
She was athletic but watching her skate was like watching a gymnast skate. Her middle name should have been Grace, that way she would have had it somewhere. I've seen boxers that were more fluid in the ring than her on ice and skates.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 14, 2018 4:47 AM |
She was adopted!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 14, 2018 4:48 AM |
She was amazing and along with Harding and Ito made skating exciting. Of course all 3 were shitted on by those puritan judges.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 14, 2018 4:55 AM |
Exactly. They and that drunk, Oksana.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 14, 2018 4:58 AM |
I loved her. That attitude! Those flips! The costumes!

Just a reminder, this was not the Olympics. It was the 1994 World Figure Skating Championships. And interestingly, the Bronze medal winner here was named Tanja Szewczenko (pronounced Tonya).
The same year at the 1994 Olympics was the Nancy Kerrigan vs. Tonya Harding nonsense. And as we all know, Oksana Baiul won the Olympic gold medal. Surya Bonaly came in 4th at the Olympics.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 14, 2018 5:02 AM |
4th. Can you imagine?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 14, 2018 5:16 AM |
Surya should've won in 1993, not in 1994.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 14, 2018 5:37 AM |
1994 really was such a bizarre year for ladies skating.
As for Surya, I thought she added flare to the mix, but I really can't stand this revisionist history happening lately that is trying to paint her as some misunderstood skating pioneer, specifically referencing her race (and i.e. Racism) as the reason why she never won a world or olympic title.
Surya didn't win because she was a terrible skater. Period. She had absolutely no edges to speak of, and skated on the flats of her blades. No curves or glide whatsoever. That's not skating. You're just pushing around up and down the ice at that point.
To win 5 European titles and 3 world silver medals with her atrocious skating skills is a testament to how much the judges dealt her a fair hand. When she hit her jumps, she was always rewarded with high technical scores, but would alway get dinged on presentation (which was totally fair).

Backflip followed by triple salchow. Dick Button and Peggy Fleming liked it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 14, 2018 5:46 AM |
Yes, she was adopted and her white mother was a piece of work. A real skating mom, just like a dance mom.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 14, 2018 6:09 AM |
Thank you R22! You said technically what I was trying to say non technically. You hit the nail on the head properly. She was not good, period. Athletic, yes but sloppy.
Now if you want to talk about the whole package, watch video of Ekatarina Witt. 1988. I hated her at the time but she was the gold standard.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 14, 2018 6:13 AM |
LOVE Surya!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 14, 2018 6:35 AM |
I remember an interview with Surya and her mother was next to her, and basically feeding answers to Surya as each question was asked. She wouldn't really let Surya answer on her own. That was creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 14, 2018 6:39 AM |
Her mom looks like she should be wearing a pointy hat and riding a broom.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 14, 2018 6:44 AM |
Speaking of evil skating moms, I've always read that Tiffany Chin's was the worst.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 14, 2018 6:46 AM |

That'th not thkating, that'th typing!

Rink moms should be banned.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 14, 2018 6:49 AM |
Damn, Jackson Browne is her mom?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 14, 2018 7:01 AM |
Did Surya have a kid?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 14, 2018 7:13 AM |
2016 article on Surya coaching in Minnesota:
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 14, 2018 7:13 AM |
It has just occurred to me that I have never actually heard Surya speak. I wonder what she sounds like.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 14, 2018 7:15 AM |
French accent.
She's engaged to be married, but has had no kids yet as far as I know.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 14, 2018 7:19 AM |
Why is she evil?
If anyone was evil, it is that homophobic cunt Scott Hamilton.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 14, 2018 8:49 AM |
I used to think Kurt Browning was hot back in the day. He was balding on top but had an incredible ass.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 15, 2018 5:20 AM |
Kurt skated like Gene Kelly danced.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 15, 2018 5:22 AM |
Surya was a joke! She could barely skate. All of her technique came from gymnastics. She would literally come to a stop on the ice , do a gymnastics jump, land on her pick not the blade edge, THEN go back to her wobbly skating. It’s insane she won as much as she did and now she’s coaching?!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 15, 2018 8:10 AM |
I thought she was fantastic, but figure skating is a subjective sport. The judges want graceful girls. But what other 4th place finisher is still causing debates 25 years later? She had something.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 17, 2018 1:33 AM |
"She was adopted!!!!!!!"
But she did finally re-connect with her bio-parents.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 17, 2018 1:47 AM |
Surya was the only exciting skater back in those days. Especially compared to those boring as fuck ice princesses.
And you guys need to give her a break. She was 20 years old in 1994.
Lets get you all on tape when you're 20 years old in a high pressure competition where you feel you were robbed in the scoring, and lets see how YOU react. She's only human.
Now you can tell she has matured very much, and she's doing great work teaching young girls.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 18, 2018 2:05 AM |
She was too butch for figure skating. She should've tried golf or tennis.
