He's homophobic and used to ridicule Clayton Norcross, who played his brother Thorne, way back in the late 1980s/early 90s. The tension between the actors played well on screen, as the Ridge and Thorne characters were also adversaries.

Met him many times as my aunt used to work on B&B for many years and I visited her on the set at least once or twice a year. Nice guy. Whenever I visited and he was working that day, he would chat with me and catch up on what was going on in my life. Never got an anti-gay vibe from him. My aunt really liked him and she would have told him off if he ever said anything negative about anyone who was gay.

Katherine Kelly Lang was nasty to my aunt but she isn’t/wasn’t liked by a lot of the producers, directors and other actors because she could never remember her lines and would just giggle all the time. Her nickname was Bubbles. Not sure if they still call her that since it’s a lot of new people there now.

Hunter Tylo was very standoffish and my aunt said she hated doing a soap opera because she felt it was beneath her.

Jeff Trachta (2nd Thorne) was very sweet and gayer than springtime. My aunt loved him and was not happy when he was recast with Windsor Harmon who was dumb as a box of rocks.

Dan McVicor who played Clarke Garrison was nice and hit on me every time I was there and he was on set. He is very smart and I did like talking with him. He knew that being on a soap opera was a career killer in Hollywood but was fine with it. I heard he works in Italy a lot now.

Bobbi Eakes who played Macy. I can’t say enough great things about her. So kind and sweet. A fantastic person. I heard she has a shop in Palm Springs. I really should go out there for a visit. My aunt loved her and was a second mother to her.

John McCook is very nice and like his character of Eric is the patriarch of the set. True professional.

Susan Flannery. Well, I had to save a DL favorite for last. Yes, she is a lesbian. She is also very sweet and kind. She was a very good friend of my aunt and I loved watching them cut up. My aunt could have cared less about who she was sleeping with and just enjoyed their friendship. As they would tell you,, they were just two Irish micks who enjoyed a good drink and hanging out and talking. They both loved good Irish whiskey.

I’m sure I’m leaving someone off the list. It’s strange to not see any of these people anymore but it’s been over 10 years since my aunt passed and a lot of water has gone under the bridge in those years.

I am male for the one person who asked. My Aunt Darlene was one of a kind. She did have an amazing love of life and was so much fun to be around. She lead an interesting life. Many people don’t know that she worked on the Johnny Carson show when it was based in New York. She was a talent coordinator so she worked with a lot of the celebrities who came on the show and got to know them and became friendly with some of them. When Johnny Carson moved his show to Los Angeles, my aunt moved with it because they paid for the move and she felt it would be her chance to move back to LA. Another interesting tidbit, she was the original choice to be Maryann Thorpe, the part that Christine Baranski ended up playing, on Cybil Shepherd’s show Cybil. They would only guarantee her the pilot episode and Darlene asked to be paid for the pilot plus 13 episodes but they balked at that. Darlene would have had to quit The Bold and the Beautiful to do Cybil’s show and she wanted to make sure she would have money to make up for leaving her good paying job on the soap if Cybil’s show wasn’t picked up by a network. She would have been good in the show but Christine made it better. I told Darlene that and she agreed. Darlene was an avid reader and didn’t watch much television. She adored her fans and knew they gave her a career.

I have only seen a few episodes of the Bold and the Beautiful since she passed as I just can’t bring myself to watch it. I did see Susan Flannery’s last episode as I had to watch. I heard they brought back Spectra Fashions with someone playing a niece of Sally running it. If I have to be honest, that hurts my soul as I just can’t imagine anyone running Spectra Fashions except the fabulous Sally but time moves on. BTW...the Bell family has always said that they will never kill off Sally to honor my Aunt’s memory. Sally will always be off somewhere with her cabana boys enjoying her life. I like to think my aunt is enjoying a cabana boy in heaven as well.

R59 Dan, as far as I knew, was on the downlow but I know I wasn’t the only person he put the moves on as he also made a move on a friend of mine who went with me one time for a visit. Jeff was out with many people on the set but I don’t know if everyone was aware but I’m sure they had to know. It’s a small community of people that work on the show so everyone knows just about everything going on. It’s like working in an office environment. Susan was definitely out but private. Not sure how much she talked about who she was in a relationship with the other cast members. My aunt knew because they were good friends. Honestly, I never asked my aunt who Susan was with or who she wasn’t with. Wasn’t my business and most of my time was hanging out with Darlene or running around LA while she was working. I would only spend a day or so in the set. It’s not very interesting as a visitor except for the first time you visit. After that, it’s just time spent saying hi to the other actors and chatting with them. I would sit in the control room and watch them tape the show which was fun.

R55 Darling Michael Fox who played Saul. My aunt and he had such a lovely working relationship. She adored him and he her. She always enjoyed their scenes together because he was such a great actor. He had been acting for many years and I know acted in television shows back in the 60’s and 70’s. His death in real life really hit my aunt hard. I had completely forgot about their scene where he professed his love until you mentioned it. That was a sweet storyline.

Schae Harrison is another sweetheart. If I remember right, it was her first acting job or one of her first. Darlene totally took Schae under her wing and helped her and become a 2nd mother to her as well. Darlene always worried about her two girls: Bobbie and Schae. She just was always concerned someone would try to take advantage of them or that they weren’t saving their money. She was a mother hen. Schae was very distraught when Darlene passed. She couldn’t bring herself to come to the funeral because she was so upset. She did come to the memorial party right after the funeral that the Bells gave for the cast and our family and her friends. I talked with her for awhile and she was visibly distraught and couldn’t stop crying. All I could do was hug her and let her know that Darlene loved her and we loved her.

R63 I never met Clayton Norcross and never heard anything about him. When I started visiting, Jeff Trachta was Thorne. I had never even watched B&B until after she started in 1989 and my viewership was sporadic as I was in college. Norcross was either gone when she started or not long after. I’m sure someone out there would know what his timeline on the show was. Since this is Datalounge, let’s just go with he is gay, gay, gay and loves the peen.

I started watching in 89 and Norcross was gone pretty soon. I was 13 and it was summer and I was bored and flipping channels when I came across B&B one afternoon. It was Thorne's bachelor party and all the men were dressed in sexy togas at some massage parlor. My hormones went into overdrive and I was instantly hooked on my first soap. There was also another running plot where a sexy older character was being blackmailed because he had posed naked for some porno mag years earlier. It was really racy stuff with a high queer bent for the time.

R26 They showed clips from the past when B&B was 30 and Sally was shown many times. Darlene was so different and strong as Sally, brought lots of funny things into it. It showed how much I miss her in the show and how much better it was back then. Not nice KKL wasn’t nice or liked. I thought she would have been the opposite.

R26 Darlene also traveled to Finland with John and two other actors, can’t remember who. B&B was enomoursly popular here and she was very warmly welcomed and adored. People loved her because she was so real. I still remember her line before the trip -When I get to Helsinki we’ll drink champagne. R67 Ok, I’m not sure how much of that has been blown out of proportion. Ronn was there when she passed as was Susan and I think John McCook was there too but, honestly,I don’t remember all the details. My mom and aunt, Darlene’s sisters, were there as well. I don’t remember my mom saying anything about Ronn holding her in his arms but he might have been holding her hand. At her memorial party, as we were all standing around talking, he told me that he felt her spirit go through him when she passed. I’ll never forget him telling me that.

I told Darlene about it and when I came for a visit, she made sure I got to meet him. She told me he wasn’t working the day I went with her to the set so I was disappointed I wouldn’t meet him. She lied to me and he was working! I could barely speak to him and was so flustered. I was young and dumb at the time. Very nice guy and I did eventually come back to reality and chatted with him. I could have followed him around like a little puppy that day. Darlene said he was straight so I have to go with that. R75 Darlene was so excited when B&B became so popular in many European countries. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and meeting and even performing for her new fans. Like I said before,she adored her fans and was always thrilled to meet them. It was always fun to see her turn on the charm when someone would come up to her and ask her if she was Sally Spectra.

B&B was never my show but Conley and Flannery were the ones that made it fun and special.

It's the most boring shitfest and has been for years. I can't believe this show lives on when other more deserving shows were axed.

Dan didn't appreciate what Clarke and Sally had; that was to his detriment. The show actually made McVicar screentest for the role of Clarke again when it brought the character back in 1996. Bobbie Eakes whispered to Dan right before the test "you look just like him." That made him feel better.

Flannery wasn't always nice. One time, a person she'd been shitty too wanted to joke to her "Oh, I'd give ANYTHING if we could be friends Mrs. Forrester." But she might not have laughed and then there'd be hell to pay.

McCook was/is always welcoming to new cast members yet supportive of ones who've been replaced; e.g., he welcomed Ingo but also tweeted out support to Winsor whom was affectionately called "Weiner" by many.

Eakes, Trachta, McCook and Conely are/were especially nice to people.

Hunter's a bit eccentric. KKL keeps to herself, but can be very nice.

Joanna Johnson could have come back as Caroline in late 91 or early 92 whenever it was (Bills Spencer and Bell whisked her away to a clinic and she was in a coma! That would have been smarter.)

The show's pace used to be much different. A whole scene could be about whether someone deliver a letter or finding out information about someone. Now, everything is rushed. I have a new appreciation for the old pace.

As for Moss, sure that "angry at Rick" scene wasn't his finest. I realized when I could never tell what Ridge was thinking or who he loved more Caroline, Brooke or Taylor (personally, I think it was Caroline) but that was the point.

Back then it was all tune in tomorrow. Now?

R91 Yes, he did. I know it upset her but pretty sure they made amends as he was at her funeral/memorial party. We talked for a little while at the party and he did say he had not always been the kindest but she was a great lady and he couldn’t believe she was gone. I felt really bad for him because he told me his career was pretty much in the toilet. This was 2007 and, if I remember right, Clarke was now just a recurring character and the B&B people weren’t calling as often for him to work. He might get one day of work every so often. He told me that he was auditioning for some TV show in Italy that was an ice skating show that would be similar to what Dancing with the Stars is today except on ice skates. It was just an audition and he wasn’t guaranteed to get on the show. I have no idea if he was ever on that show. I could tell he was down and was just trying to figure out where the next paycheck would be coming from. I just hope he is happy now.

R95 Thank you for your kind words. She was kept as comfortable as possible. Darlene and Susan had great chemistry and loved their scenes together. I think Susan has mentioned this but both of them loved the scene where Sally cuts Steohanie’s hair after they got drunk. I remember watching that scene as well and just laughing because I’m pretty sure they had a couple of those drinking nights in real life minus the hair cutting.

I read once that Todd McKee read about an open call for actors to join Santa Barbara; friends told him to go (why is it always friends telling these hotties to go? Why can't anyone just say I saw this and I wanted it so I went?)

Anyway, I agree all the repeat stories on B&B are getting ridiculous. Here's a moment from B&B circa 2005. Jackie and Brooke get proof that Stephanie faked her heart attack, which she used to leverage a Ridge/Taylor reunion.

Steph had to confess all in front of her family, but she didn't go down without making her point.

To Brooke, who fell in and out of love with Ridge and Thorne while pining for Ridge along the way, and didn't care that Macy started drinking after losing Thorne to Brooke, Stephanie said so perfectly:

"We know your defense. Everything you say at the moment is exactly what you mean. Well, I can't live in a world where truth is served up like a fast food, hot one moment, cold and greasy the next."

There aren't moments like this anymore on B&B. They lost something when they lost Stephanie and not trying to fill her void was a mistake.

He always seemed so "porny" to me, but onscreen, he managed to bring a bit of individualism to the character of Thorne the others didn't when they finally gave Thorne a good storyline to assert himself more. Although not a great actor by any stretch, he held his own against Moss, McCook, and Flannery and KKL. But once the Brooke cycle wore off, so did he. Then he became window dressing.

I worked at CBS back in the day; I can tell you Todd was a pleasure to work with. He was never a great actor but he took that abuse storyline and ran with it. And being gagged up and tied up left to suffocate isn't fun to play (well...maybe for some it is), but Todd was -- and is -- a pro.

He's nothing like Ronn Moss, which threw a lot of viewers initially. But I think the people in charge of the soap decided to go against type, after resting the character for awhile.

Devin went online to attack the recasting everywhere she could. She probably just ended up getting more sympathy for the new guy. (She will probably end up here too if we don't watch it.)

It was disappointing because Moss was never a great actor, but he'd begun to seem like an ok guy over the years. I don't want to blame the woman for everything but his current wife does him no favours.

If Ingo signed a contract at B&B, why wouldn't he sign one at GH. Or was he not offered a contract? Jax was always 10x more compelling than Stumpy and the Borg.

Ingo's contract at GH was not renewed back in 2010 or 2011. He was recurring for a while until they wrote his character off completely by sending him to Australia. Since then, he's come back a few times for several weeks each time.

Many believe the reason Ingo's contract wasn't renewed was because he spoke up about the pyramid scheme Steve Burton was involved with where he recruited fans to sell his Monavie juice. As I recall, Steve was filming a video for his Monavie scheme at the GH studios and Ingo spoke out against it to JFP, Brian Frons and others of TPTB.

At one point, Burton even got the writers to script a scene where Spinelli brought Jason a glass of some magic elixir that cured many ailments. It was never called Monavie by name, but from the dialogue everyone in the know understood that was what was meant.

Just to add ... Ingo reportedly sent an e-mail to the entire GH cast about Burton's pyramid scheme, and the two reportedly had a tense exchange over this action on set.

Brad's biggest weakness is he doesn't know how to write gradual transitions. Characters change direction abruptly. That's what makes B&B so hard to take seriously.

One person is the love of their life one week but two weeks later, they're madly in love with someone else. Characters who are bitter enemies suddenly are friendly again. That's not how human emotions work. Yes, gradual transition scenes can be awkward to write and aren't always the most exciting thing to watch. But they are necessary for character evolution.
