It must be another Tuesday in America.

Wonder what Mitch McConnell will say.

Is it really “tragic” when gun control is a solution?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 23, 2018 3:05 PM |
At this point we really should take a fatalistic approach to this. These shootings are a part of this country's identity. Like Wales and its rivers, gun violence is an intrinsic part of the American landscape.

How many tragedies must occur IN redneck country before they take the hint? Don't they love their children and families, too?

Not as much as the Second Amendment.

Thoughts, prayers and other meaningless platitudes.

Rednecks and poor whites have this weird attitude that's hard to describe, but basically amounts to accepting tragic and avoidable deaths as just a part of everyday life.
I've lived in the Midwest most of my life and have known people who died after making a host of poor decisions, or died because a company didn't exercise the safety regulations they should have, or died because of lax gun laws, etc. Their families are always very upset but also immediately accepting of what has happened.
There's a reason you don't see parents of these school shooting victims start activist groups. And the few times one of them does, they're shouted down by about a million fellow Americans who think they're way out of line for getting so emotional about what happened.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 23, 2018 3:25 PM |
R4 I'm good with that. It keeps things in better perspective of where we are at. No more denial from me. I almost don't care anymore when I hear of these things. If I somehow tragically get caught up in an event like this, Oh well!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 23, 2018 3:36 PM |
Fatalism is a slippery slope to the devaluation of all life.
We've gone down that rabbit hole before, its a grim climb back.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 23, 2018 3:40 PM |
You think we're not already well into that hole, R10?
No one gives a shit about anyone else's life anymore. Haven't you noticed?

More dead deplorables is a good thing.

If a school full of dead white kids doesn't change America's hold on guns then absolutely nothing will. We all know this. Now sink into the floor.

Muslims terrorists shouldn't even bother. Americans are killing each other

What are the chances the shooter was a loner who was bullied?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 23, 2018 9:21 PM |
It is depressing reality of America that a school shooting barely generates any attention now. People are too accustomed to mass shootings.

Everyone at the funerals will be wearing red MAGA hats.

If we only made drugs illegal, all the guns in the entire world would magically disappear. Just like when we had prohibition, all the alcohol and alcoholism just vanished.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 25, 2018 7:22 AM |
Yawn, R24. I haven't heard that shit before....
Name one country whose murder rates were not cut remarkably after guns were banned. See Australia for a hint.

Americans had their chance with Columbine to affect change. They had it and they lost it and they gave up on it.
ALL Americans acted so outraged and shocked when Columbine happened. It was the biggest news story for weeks. It supposedly started this whole national debate on bullying and guns and violent video games and Marilyn Manson and "what's happening to our kids?" and whatever the hell else the talking heads were on about. And this story dragged on for months.
And what changed? Absolutely nothing. The republicans refuse to do anything about gun control. Columbine happened almost 20 years ago. The republicans didn't care enough then. And now people are exasperated and they care even less now. It's part of American life now. That's why this thread has all of 28 posts. Oh well. Welcome to America. Thoughts and prayers, y'all!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 25, 2018 10:56 PM |
So anyone in the NRA or government said anything about this?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 25, 2018 11:12 PM |
Of course not. This is the new fucking normal. Welcome to the police state where death of innocence is no big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 25, 2018 11:16 PM |
Just the usual meaningless thoughts and prayers Tweets, R30. You know - the usual whenever a massacre or mass shooting happens in the US.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 25, 2018 11:24 PM |
I was in high school when this happened and the Republicans wanted to blame everything BUT gun control. Video games, heavy metal music, trenchcoats, loners, Marilyn Manson, you name it. But don't you dare question everybody's God-given right to own a gun (even mental cases and criminals).
Fast-forward 20 years and they are still doing the same exact thing. Just take a look at that foul "Las Vegas Massacre" shooting thread here on DL. Aside from their idiotic conspiracy theories, you have posters on there suggesting that the hotel was to blame for not having armed security. So what if that shooting happened at 7/11 or CVS? Should every brick-and-mortar business and storefront in America have armed security? Do the republicans want to turn this country into some fascist nightmare, with armed guards everywhere?

Damn.
Gabe Parker, 15, has been identified as the suspect in the rampage on Tuesday that left two dead by the Courier-Journal.
Sources close to the family confirmed his identity to the paper, and explained that he is the son of Mary Garrison Minyard, the editor of the Marshall County Online.
Minyard rushed to the school on Tuesday morning to cover the incident when she realized her son was the primary suspect, the sources explained.
