Why in fuck's sake can't we just wear a jeans and t-shirt to work???

I agree, OP. Same with heels. They ruin women’s feet. I’ve seen women’s feet completely misshapen due to heels. I refuse to wear them unless I’m attending a formal function.

Tell me about it. And you wear a yellow Mao Tse Tung jacket a few times and it kills your life long dream.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 22, 2018 10:44 PM |
Suit jackets are good for older fat men.
They're designed to make shoulders seem wider and seemingly reduce wide hips.

OP is fat

I love wearing suits for special occasions. I have several, I look great in them, get admiration and flirtation, but fortunately can go casual for work.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 22, 2018 10:50 PM |
I'm almost with you, OP, except that you and I both know that usually a man doesn't look better in the professional workplace than when wearing a well-tailored suit.
Not the handyman or the cable guy or the writer or the genius scientist or coder, or even the creative genius running his own company (though lots of those guys would look better in suits sometimes) and certainly not people who work outdoors a lot.
But lawyers and executives and politicians and bankers, and most on-air tv news reporters indoors or out (storms and extreme temps excepted) and even the staff at a world-class restaurant, hotel, airline, or whatever-- yeah, a good looking suit and tie still are a better choice
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 22, 2018 10:58 PM |
Suits jackets are strait-jackets.
They tell you that a good suit suit shoulder MUST be a 90 degree right-angle.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 22, 2018 11:02 PM |
I haven't worn a suit in at least couple of decades and I never will again. I'll pick comfort every time.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 22, 2018 11:23 PM |
I don't like the current style short suit jacket.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 22, 2018 11:25 PM |
Who wears a suit anymore? Undertakers and politicians?
Seriously?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 22, 2018 11:31 PM |
A well cut suit should be comfortable and flattering. If you aren’t comfortable OP try going for something custom made.

I wish straight jackets would come in to style. I have an issue with never knowing what to do with my hands. I think a straight jacket would solve that issue.

West Coast here, R18, and yes, I'm quite happy in my jeans and sweat pants. And even happier that the people I work with and socialize with judge me for who I am, not how I dress.

There's a man in my office who is, well, a complete and utter tool. He looks really rather fucking amazing in a suit, but when he comes in wearing jeans and a t-shirt, fuck, he looks an absolute state. Fact is - in some industries, in some fields, you need to wear a suit. Leave the jeans and crappy slogan t-shirt for the weekend and make an effort.
Oh, and ladies? Run a brush through that nest of rat-pubes you call a hairstyle.

I love a man in a suit. That moment when he drops his pants and you get to see what is hiding beneath the formal polish - preferably a pair of tight white briefs - gets me hot every time.

I like to wear suits- I look better in them and feel pretty comfortable. I’m just too cheap to pay for the dry cleaning, so usually go for pants I can iron myself and have my shirts washed/pressed at the cleaners.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 23, 2018 12:28 AM |
I look good in them but hate wearing them. Im glad my office is business casual so we never have to wear them. There are alternatives out there for work besides jeans and a t-shirt.

Here's a question, how many suits do you own?
My father used to have at least ten, and he wore them twice or three times before cleaning, but never two days in a row.
I have five and two are crumpled up in a bag and need to be cleaned and pressed. Of the other two, one is way too big and the other is a bit small. I have about five blazers I wear quite often, especially the autumn tweeds.

You look more professional in a suit and are taken more seriously.
Also, it requires significantly less mental energy to put on a suit in the morning than wearing context-specific, appropriate business casual. Business casual in some situations is worse than a suit in terms of mental effort - you're fooling yourself if you think your co-workers, bosses, or clients are not judging you.

I can’t help it, I was raised by hippies! Formal meant taking all the “No Nukes” buttons off your jean jacket before going out.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 23, 2018 3:52 AM |
Neckties are strange. I like them, but they seem like an odd way to add a flourish of color to a suit. Did they ever serve a purpose other than that?
I remember being in a working environment that suddenly imposed a dress code and we were told to wear dress pants, dress shirts, and ties. Rolling up the sleeves and unbuttoning the collar was expected to make us look "hardworking"
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 23, 2018 3:55 AM |
I love when a man rocks something other than a suit but it takes true taste and let's face it, few have that. But jeans and a t-shirt? That's not even trying. Just say "I eat macaroni and cheese from a box and watch Kevin James sit-coms"

To me, people in suits come across as stuffy and sleazy. I don’t care what my lawyer or local politician is wearing. As long as it’s not too distracting and they do their actual job.
Standardized attire is so last-century.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 23, 2018 11:01 AM |
I call bullshit on woman being obligated to do the same thing with their form of dress. Ever turn on the local news in LA? All the men are wearing suites including the weather guy. Woman on the other hand can wear anything they want as long is their titties are not hanging out.

The company I work for has about 5,000 employees. It used to be executives wore suits. Mangers wore jackets and ties. Everyone else wore shirts and ties. That changed about 6 years ago. Now everyone from the CEO down wears Levi’s and sneakers. That works great. I work in the hinterland. A client hasn’t stepped into my building in 3 years.

This thread is catnip for the Maiden Aunts who are simply aghast! AGHAST! at the fact that men no longer dress properly the way they did in the 60s and 70s when they were starting out in the workforce.
With casual workplaces they can no longer tsk tsk over men who wear the wrong color socks or wrong type of footgear. Takes all the fun out of living.

^ There was something nice back in the day about wearing them. And yes, people looked nice. But I praised the day we all went "biz cazh" (I think it was in 2000 or 2001) and could ditch the tie. God I hate wearing ties.

[quote]Even lawyers and bankers in NY and LA only wear suits for special occasions or court appearances.
Really? I guess it depends on what kind of lawyer or banker the person is. But if they are seeing clients on a regular basis, I would expect most who want to look like they take their position seriously, and maybe have to be someplace important at any minute.
I know some attorneys who dress in polos and jeans or khakis in the office, knowing they don't have court that day, but they tend not to be the ones commanding the highest retainers. At least put on a dress shirt and tie, guys.

I have to question anyone who insists there is a relationship between job performance and wearing a suit. If you are basing any of your decisions (professional or personal) on the way someone dresses you are the one "shouldn't be given responsibilities above entry level" ( R36 ).

Owners and traders can wear jammy pants. The big dicks wear sports jackets with no tie.
Middle management types wear suits.

[quote]Middle management types wear suits.
And so do prime ministers, presidents, Senators, and members of parliament pretty much around the world. What's your point? That the very rich can wear what they want? Sure they can, but some conventions remain in place and people are judged by how they dress, always.
But I'll bet those you say don't wear suits will don black tie if they're invited to a State Dinner, and at least wear a jacket and tie when speaking before Congress, giving a eulogy or (you would think) appearing in Court.

R64 - I'm sorry do you think our current Senators, Representativs and President ( all suite wearers) are doing a good job?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 29, 2018 3:11 PM |
Come on, r67, you know nothing in my post suggested that I think a suit means "doing a good job."
I just think that, whether we like it or not, there are still some positions of authority, professionalism and even ambition where dressing for the job (or the job you want, as they say) is still part of the role. Even youngish hot leaders like Justin Trudeau and Cory Booker are almost never seen without a jacket and tie in interviews or official appearances.
The first millenial man (or woman) to be elected to Congress who appears on the floor of the House or Senate to speak in a hoodie and jeans ( unless they literally just got out of the hospital and were rushed to the floor to vote) may break ground, but I'll bet his or her influence with colleagues will drop by a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 29, 2018 6:27 PM |
^ Then don't vote for Mark Fuckerberg. He HATES suits and ties, and has teased that he might run for POTUS. He's more likely to start a new attire trend in the WH than anyone else elected.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 29, 2018 9:09 PM |
R68 - I guess I'm just confused. If not wearing a suit is an indicator for not doing a good job I assumed wearing a suit would be an indicator for doing a good job.
