She uses the same two impersonations for every character she plays. I really find her annoying now. I was a big fan way back during The Big Gay Sketch Show years, but her SNL shtick has become unbearable. I can't be the only one who notices her limitations. It's overkill at SNL now.
Kate McKinnon Has No Range

She acts with her teeth.

She's no Kristen Wiig. I was so embarrassed when Kate sang Hallelujah in her Clinton drag, post election. It was meant to be touching and elegiac, but it was just cringey and crunchy as fuck. This is how it's done.

That makes her perfect for SNL which beats every minor success into the ground.

OP is a right-wing troll. McKinnon is astonishing in her ability to express the essence of the characters she takes on. I first noticed it when she did Justin Bieber and it continues to last night when she improbably took on Robert Mueller. It is no surprise that her professional peers awarded her with an Emmy for her work on SNL.

She does completely dominate SNL now to the point it seems like overkill, but I don't blame them, she is by far the best talent they have and everyone realizes that.

I completely agree OP but ALL of the snl cast members are like that. Past and present.

Not true at all R6. Not true of the brilliant Jan Hooks, Phil Hartman, Molly Shannon or Bill Hader to name a few.

Kate McKinnon is being overused on SNL at the moment, but she's fantastic. OP, you are a blind doorknob.

SNL always has breakout stars while other cast members fade away. I think Belushi and Will Ferrell personify that -- they took over the show, thoroughly dominating it. Eddie Murphy carried the show single handedly for a couple of years.
Billy Crystal was a known comedian, but he was most,y known for being on Soap, which was a niche program. When he joined SNL as permanent host for a season -- that's when he got really popular and did movies after that.
In the 1990s and early 00s, people were constantly talking about what a boys club SNL was and how women cast members couldn't even get their sketches looked at. That's when they started giving Jan Hooks and Nora Dunn more airtime and later they made Tina Fey head writer. A,y Poehler grabbed onto Fey and did what male SNL alums did -- she muscled her way into the alpha spot. Kirsten Wiig did the same. So there was 30 years of all male standouts in the SNL cast, now the females are making up for lost time. No more Victoria Jackson dumb blondes.

True r9, Kate McKinnon isn't the first SNL cast member to practically take over the show.

It’s intetesting because Cecily is in the show as much, and sometimes more, than Kate, but it doesn’t feel like she dominates. I think it’s because she plays a much greater variety of characters.

[italic]Soap[/italic] was an Emmy-winning mainstream sitcom that would have been higher rated if it had not been boycotted by certain ABC affiliates when it was a new show. Hardly a niche.

r9....Billy Crystal was never the permanent host for a year......he joined the cast for a year. You obviously have no idea what youre talking about, and r12 calls your ass out on it.....HA.

All right, I should have said Jane Curtain, but she's way before my time. I wore her to the march yesterday.
