Marvel creator Stan Lee accused of groping home care nurses

Marvel creator Stan Lee accused of sexual harassment

Comic book legend Stan Lee has been accused of groping and harassing the nurses who care for him at his home in Los Angeles.

According to the Daily Mail, the nursing company is currently in a legal dispute with the 95-year-old Marvel creator after nurses claimed he asked for oral sex in the shower and to be “pleasured” in his bedroom.

“He doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he’s lost his filter,” a source told the tabloid. “There has been a stream of young nurses coming to his house in West Hollywood and he has been sexually harassing them. He finds it funny.”

The source added, “He’s also very handsy and has groped some of the women, it’s unacceptable behavior, especially from an icon like Stan.”

A rep for the nursing company confirmed several nurses have complained and the owner of the company has spoken to Lee directly, but the company stopped working for him at the end of 2016.

“Mr. Lee categorically denies these false and despicable allegations and he fully intends to fight to protect his stellar good name and impeccable character,” his lawyer said in a statement to the site. “We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled. Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media. Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.”

Meanwhile, a rep for the new nursing company working for Lee said he has been “polite, kind and respectful” to their staff.

Lee’s wife of 69 years, Joan, passed away in July at 93 years old.

A rep for Lee did not immediately return our request for comment.

He is freakin 95! Elderly people do weird shit, their minds arent what they used to be.

by Anonymousreply 1January 9, 2018 7:57 PM

If an 95 year old guy can't grope himself some young firm ass, what's the world coming to?

by Anonymousreply 2January 9, 2018 8:02 PM

Nasty old man should try that with an old-school nurse like my mother. He’d draw back a bloody stump.

by Anonymousreply 3January 9, 2018 8:04 PM

He's 95...let the man be. If a spry nurse in her 20s/30s can't fight back against a man who has been alive for 10 decades, I don't know what to say.

by Anonymousreply 4January 9, 2018 8:11 PM

Couple things come to mind.

1) Loss of the "filter" which stops people from acting out the wildly inappropriate thoughts which pop into their head and which, normally, they would never *dream* of carrying into reality, is a common early sign of dementia - and the guy is 95. While not a foregone conclusion, dementia is a real possibility.

2) An agency specialising in nursing care for the elderly would be very familiar with the above, and would send nurses who could handle such behaviour both appropriately and compassionately.

Alright, three things.

3) “He’s also very handsy and has groped some of the women, it’s unacceptable behavior, especially from an icon like Stan.” Horseapples. It's unacceptable behaviour from anyone, and has nothing to do with whether the person is an icon or otherwise.

This doesn't smell right. Would a 95 year old man who exhibited the same behaviour, and who had spent his remaining wealth on securing nursing help in his dotage, be the subject of a "legal dispute" (read: "demand for money") with the nursing agency? I think not.

He's always been a cunt, look at how he fucked over Jack Kirby.

by Anonymousreply 6January 9, 2018 8:20 PM

Oh no, not Stan. Honestly though, they should really just let it slide. He's on the verge of death.

by Anonymousreply 7January 9, 2018 8:26 PM

Horseapples is my new favorite DL-ism

Is that a common ElderFlyoverstani phrase or did you make it up?

Either way, it's awesome

by Anonymousreply 8January 9, 2018 8:32 PM

I'm surprised it's not a HIPAA violation for the agency to be talking about one of their clients like this. Inappropriate behavior is frequently due to incipient dementia (current stats suggest 40% of people Stan's age have dementia), or side effects of medications. In other words, it's likely his behavior is caused by something medical, and his care team should not be discussing his care with outsiders.

by Anonymousreply 9January 9, 2018 8:33 PM

If you’re too weak to hold your own with a 90 year old man with dementia then maybe you don’t deserve equal pay.

by Anonymousreply 10January 9, 2018 8:33 PM
He's always been a cunt, look at how he fucked over Jack Kirby.

Affirmative.

---------------

Stan Lee hosted a fundraising event back in 2000, the "The Hollywood Gala Salute To William Jefferson Clinton And Hillary Rodham Clinton" arranged by Peter Paul, the man behind Stan Lee Media, the internet venture that eventually collapsed into bankruptcy and Paul was jailed after pleading guilty to stock manipulation.

HILLARY: Stan, what we haven't told you, is that you're going to be the next Secretary of Defence.

STAN: Well, I expected that.

HILLARY: Because superheroes will be a lot cheaper than the missile defence system.

STAN: Hillary, you're wonderful.

STAN: You've got the mutant vote right around the world.

HILLARY: Some people think I'm the mutant candidate, so I should have.

And as usual.....

by Anonymousreply 22January 9, 2018 9:26 PM

R4/R10 you do realize that his nurses are not exactly able to "fight back" because they're well, his nurses, right? What do you think they should do, smack their 95-year-old patient?

I'm with R22. The last time I visited a hospital, there seemed to be almost as many male nurses as female (some of them pretty hot). Surely it can't be too hard to have just male, or maybe 60+ y.o. female nurses who aren't ruffled by this sort of thing, taking care of him.

by Anonymousreply 40January 10, 2018 5:48 AM

This is absurd and yes, r31, kind of funny. If you are 95 years old and need round-the-clock nursing care, then you are most likely demented and surely past the point when any reasonable person would hold you accountable for this kind of behavior. Leave him be, and find him some experienced nurses who are used to dealing with this kind of thing from senile old farts.

by Anonymousreply 41January 10, 2018 5:56 AM

I wonder if the nurses have seen Stan's web fluid?

by Anonymousreply 42January 10, 2018 7:04 AM

There was female friend of mine who worked for an elder lady. The elder lady liked receiving orgasms and she would pay my friend extra for those.

by Anonymousreply 44January 10, 2018 8:30 AM

I nave been groped and petted a thousand times. If you are old and need a nurse, there is a good chAnce your mind is not working right and a nurse should be wise enough to know that.

by Anonymousreply 45January 10, 2018 8:34 AM

by Anonymousreply 48January 10, 2018 12:04 PM

Inappropriate behavior is to be expected in elder care.

If you don't want to be slapped, or have feces thrown at you, or cussed out, these are not the jobs for you. These patients are not fully culpable for their actions because of their diminished states.

Institutions have policies in place to address this. This is not an office job where having a bed pan dumped on you is a matter for a police report for assault.

Also, leaking this to the press is a massive HIPAA violation and the staff needs to be terminated and the institution needs to be sued.

by Anonymousreply 49January 10, 2018 12:47 PM

You wouldn't think it was funny if you were the nurse and this patient was trying to cop a feel of your groin, would you?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 50January 10, 2018 12:50 PM

No, R50, I wouldn't think it was funny if a 101 year-old man grabbed my groin, pulled my hair, spit applesauce at me, or intentionally threw his medication on the floor 50 times a day forcing me to pick it up.

However, these sorts of things come with the territory, and I've chosen not to work as an elder care aide.

by Anonymousreply 51January 10, 2018 1:03 PM

RIght, r51. And having the bony fingers of death playing with your privates isn't funny whether it comes with the territory of nursing or not.

by Anonymousreply 52January 10, 2018 1:19 PM

“If you’re too weak to hold your own with a 90 year old man with dementia then maybe you don’t deserve equal pay.”

If you are a nurse , close physical proximity to patients is part of your job, I can guarantee you, that every nurse can “hold her own” you fucking idiot, but that still doesn’t make it fun.

by Anonymousreply 53January 10, 2018 1:27 PM

We need to read this?

Cunts.

by Anonymousreply 54January 10, 2018 1:46 PM

This is why a self inflicted bullet to the head at 70 is looking like part of good estate planning.

by Anonymousreply 55January 10, 2018 3:24 PM

It depends on what kind of round the clock care you have.

I work at a very fancy club and we had a resident who was 93 and still quite sharp. He fell a second time in six months, and while he wasn't hurt, he couldn't get up by himself. After that, he moved into a facility, which had round the clock care but it wasn't medical really. It had two wings, and he was basically in a wing where he could hit a button and a nursing aide would come check on him. The RN was in the other wing.

But I do agree even if he was coherent, it would be hard to classify a 95 year olds actions as abuse, unless he somehow could threaten to get that groped lady fired.

by Anonymousreply 56January 10, 2018 3:30 PM

I have clients who’ve reached 100, and they still had together and enjoyed life R55.

And my grandmother remarried at 80, and they had a wonderful 9 years before her second husband died.

70 is too young, unless your health is failing or if you’re tired of life, which I get.

by Anonymousreply 57January 10, 2018 3:30 PM
“He doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he’s lost his filter,” a source told the tabloid. “There has been a stream of young nurses coming to his house in West Hollywood and he has been sexually harassing them. He finds it funny.”

My mother worked in a nursing home for a while and said that this kind of behavior was common, especially if there were issues with cognitive functioning in the resident. I think that's common knowledge for most people.

You'd think that nurses working for him would know that, and that the service would do the time-honored thing of sending over a big battleaxe nurse who would teach him how to behave rather than let him continue as he has been and just whine about it.

by Anonymousreply 58January 10, 2018 3:35 PM

He doesn't sound demented to me. He thought it was funny groping badly paid home care aides and the home care agency dropped him. He realised it wasn't so funny after all because he would run out of home care agencies if he didn't stop. So he stopped. His mind is working just fine.

I've come across plenty of smart asses like this. They get their jollies groping women who they think are lesser beings than they are. "I'm a rich guy, everyone knows me and you're a nobody. Who are they going to believe?" Then they hide behind the excuse "But I'm an old man! I can't be held responsible for this kind of behavior. You should know that! It's your fault for making a big deal out of it."

by Anonymousreply 59January 10, 2018 3:41 PM

You should talk to someone that actually works in a nursing home r59.

I've spent more time in them than I would've liked with my grandmother.

by Anonymousreply 60January 10, 2018 3:44 PM

I worked in a nursing home, R60. I also worked in hospitals, clinics and I've administrated a home care agency Visiting your grandma isn't quite the same as going in and working somewhere for 8-14 hours a day, for years.

The first home care agency was right to drop him. The ladies who worked with him every single day are absolutely qualified to deem whether or not a patient is acting out of dementia or not. They have plenty of experience with the demented and with non-demented wise guys. If they came to me and repeatedly complained about being physically groped by a man who knew what he was doing, I'd believe them.

by Anonymousreply 61January 10, 2018 4:04 PM

They spoke about this on early morning radio today. Apparently, the agency was fired because it was suspected they were taking money from Lee. He had almost 100k missing and the lamebrain thief (not one of the caregiver staff) tried to buy a condo in WeHo with it. He has a new agency.

He's 93. That means he was in his 20s in the 1940s. That was a completely and totally different world than the one we live in today. I am absolutely, positively not saying "just give him a pass," but there should be at least a little consideration of the fact that he is from a completely different age of human history than we are living in now.

When he was in his 20s, the smartphones many of us are probably looking at right this instant were 60 years, an elderly person's life span, in the future.

by Anonymousreply 64January 10, 2018 5:29 PM

Sorry, 95, not 93.

by Anonymousreply 65January 10, 2018 5:31 PM

The question is was he like this 20-30 years ago? If not, then this definitely is early to moderate dementia.

Yeah this kind of stuff happens all the time. I remember about 10 years ago when I was volunteering at a geriatrics floor in a large hospital there was a lovely but totally mute elderly man in his early 90s. He enjoyed sitting in the common area right in front of the nurses station and would take all his clothes off. He wasn't touching anyone but he seemed to enjoy trying to watch TV naked. The nurses there were very used to that kind of behavior and would quickly encourage him to put his gown back on, with him resisting them as much as he was capable. And then 15-20 minutes later he would do it again.

[bold]Stan Lee Needs a Hero: Elder Abuse Claims and a Battle Over the Aging Marvel Creator[/bold]

He is alleging elder abuse at the hands of his daughter.
The comic book legend — whose creative tenure at the helm of Marvel Comics beginning in New York in the early 1960s spawned Spider-Man, Black Panther and the X-Men and laid the foundation for superhero dominance in Hollywood that continues with the April 27 release of Avengers: Infinity War — sat in the office of his attorney Tom Lallas and signed a blistering declaration.
The Feb. 13 document, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, begins with some background, explaining that Lee and his late wife had arranged a trust for their daughter because she had trouble supporting herself and often overspent. “It is not uncommon for J.C. to charge, in any given month, $20,000 to $40,000 on credit cards, sometimes more,” the document states. It goes on to describe how, when he and his daughter disagree — “which is often” — she “typically yells and screams at me and cries hysterically if I do not capitulate.”
Lee explains that J.C. will, “from time to time,” demand changes to her trust, including the transfer of properties into her name. He has resisted such changes, he states, because they “would greatly increase the likelihood of her greatest fear: that after my death, she will become homeless and destitute.”
