I think she's a fabulous person and smart as a whip. What she lacks in knowledge of the in's and out 's of government, she could learn and understand fully in no time. I think she is--always has been--a force for good in this society. Given those facts, yes, I would vote for her.
Would you vote for Oprah if she ran for President?

Having a president who can, you know, govern would be nice.

Probably.

YES YES YES
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 8, 2018 6:16 PM |
NO she is a well meaning idiot at best. Her egregious spawn (dr Phil, Dr Oz) are evidence of her cluelessness
I voted Barack twice and HRC. I require intellect.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 8, 2018 6:17 PM |
No.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 8, 2018 6:18 PM |
Well, unlike Trump, she's run an actual billion-dollar industry. And no bankruptcies.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 8, 2018 6:18 PM |
It certainly would mean giving up her lifestyle. And being President isn't just inspirational speeches. How would she handle leading the country in to war, for example. I don't think Kim Jong Un will have much time for 'chicken soup for the soul" nonsense. And the looming cyber-terrorism in coming years. The list goes on and on ....
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 8, 2018 6:18 PM |
Absolutely NOT. Can we please stop these fucking insane Oprah For President threads. Thank You.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 8, 2018 6:19 PM |
I would definitely vote for her
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 8, 2018 6:20 PM |
Yes, unlike Trump she could actually get some good people to surround her. If Reagan could do it, so could O.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 8, 2018 6:21 PM |
FOURTH Oprah thread in 12 hours all posted by the same person campaigning for Oprah before she's even announced her run. Get a life.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 8, 2018 6:23 PM |
But even Reagan had been a governor before running for President.
As for Winfry's success, I don't believe OWN is all that successful.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 8, 2018 6:24 PM |
It the choice is Oprah vs. Moron Trump and his jack ass family, I'm going with Oprah all the way.
If the choice is Oprah vs. anybody else, I reserve the right to change my mind.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 8, 2018 6:24 PM |
I don’t know, I don’t think so. I worry about the US becoming Paris. I worry about gay people. I need a Democrat who will promise me gay people will be protected from religion. If Oprah says that, I’m in. If not, no.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 8, 2018 6:26 PM |
Hell yes I'd vote for her. Her base/following is huge and she could motivate/enthuse the minority vote also. She has the potential coalition to have a large turnout and help elect down ballot democrats too. The only question is does she really want it and is the United States okay with another celebrity candidate? Remains to be seen.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 8, 2018 6:26 PM |
[quote] I worry about the US becoming Paris.
What does that mean? Is Paris no longer gay friendly?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 8, 2018 6:30 PM |
Unlike Trump, Oprah knows and is respected not only by world leaders, but the public in general. Do you think the majority of politicians KNOW anything outside of their own political bubbles ? Its all about the people you surround yourself with, who are experts in their fields. Oprah would have people with actual credentials fighting for positions in her administration....and as evidenced by her career and humanitarian work, she knows how to delegate authority.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 8, 2018 6:30 PM |
I'd vote for if she was the nominee, but I'd much prefer someone with political experience.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 8, 2018 6:31 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 8, 2018 6:32 PM |
FUCK NO!!!!
This idiocy must stop. These people are not fucking qualified for the position.
The Presidency is NOT a figurehead position. This moron currently there is proof of that. You actually have to know shit and keep up with anything new that comes along.
Fuck Oprah and her sheeple.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 8, 2018 6:32 PM |
See, R19 is the problem. Just completely unaware and that is so dangerous. But, that’s what politicians like.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 8, 2018 6:33 PM |
No. Let her run for the House or Senate or school board first. Even Reagan had legislative experience before running for President. She used her platform to foist insipid quacks like Oz and Dr Phil onto America, she grabbed onto every new agey-religious bullshit fad that came along and her ego is bigger than trump's. And as for the "she'd be better than what we have now!" crowd....yeah, so would my dog. That isn't the point. We need a serious candidate with foreign policy and legislative experience in 2020 because the new President will have a fascist mess to clean up. Just because the Deplorables treat running America like a D-list reality show doesn't mean we need to.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 8, 2018 6:34 PM |
Governing a country as complex as the US requires a team, not a single superhero. The president needs to be a good team leader. He/she doesn't not have to be able to run a country as an individual.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 8, 2018 6:39 PM |
I'll vote for her AFTER she runs for another elective office like Senator or Mayor. I'm not voting for anyone who is running for President as their first political office.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 8, 2018 6:40 PM |
I'd rather have a very highly qualified legislator, but if she's the nominee opposing Trump or Pence, definitely yes.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 8, 2018 6:41 PM |
I think Oprah would be AMAZING when it comes to domestic issues and policy, but I can't see her being comfortable when it comes to military and foreign policy decisions... she's dedicated her life to inspiring and helping people, so I don't think she'd be comfortable in a role that would entail decisions that might cost lives because of actions she's signed off on/supported.
And I agree that she should start out as a senator or governor first. Or if she were to become mayor of Chicago and help turn things around there she would certainly gain experience and prove her merit.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 8, 2018 6:42 PM |
I think she has sufficient.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 8, 2018 6:43 PM |

Not in the Democratic primaries. But I would vote for her over any Repub in the general, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 8, 2018 6:45 PM |
^ I agree R35. She is not ready or prepared to take on the role of the presidency. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Hopefully we will not be forced to choose between her and Trump next election. Neither are qualified.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 8, 2018 6:46 PM |
I think she'd be better than Trumpzilla - but that's not saying much.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 8, 2018 6:50 PM |
If she was the only option against Trump in the general sure. I wouldn't vote for her in the primary. No to celebrities with no governing experience, no to billiionaires running the country. Fuck that.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 8, 2018 6:52 PM |
The great thing about Oprah is that she listens. She has just enough humility to be educated and inspired by other people. She would surround herself with intellect, creativity and experience. People trust her and believe she would only seek office to protect and support people. Trump has made it glaringly obvious that there are no actual qualifications needed to be elected President. It's all about what you do when you get there.
Even the crazy trailer park women who voted for Trump like Oprah. She really has stunningly broad-based appeal. Oprah is only disliked by Dataloungers and the alt-right.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 8, 2018 6:54 PM |
Would she promise us all a car?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 8, 2018 6:54 PM |
People whinging about celebrities running for office need to wake up and accept reality. I agree its absolutely ridiculous, but this is the world we are living in now, where people despise anyone perceived to be a part of the political class. As vulnerable as Trump should be in 2020, I worry he will be able to run right over any of the rumored Democratic candidates with all his bullshit outsider, swamp-draining rhetoric.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 8, 2018 6:55 PM |
I was thinking the same thing r46. And I'm not sure it has all that much to do with hatred of the existing political class. The door has been opened. We should have seen this coming.

But I think we need a statesman or woman, not an entertainer.

Oprah's eating this attention up and doing nothing to assuage the chatter, even though she has no intention of running for President.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 8, 2018 7:10 PM |
Would be nice to see her in politics. Not sure about the Oval Office. But I’m not saying no outright. There something there. She’s has executive experience. And she has been successful, unlike the insolvent current pres.

by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 8, 2018 7:11 PM |
R45 Are you one who remembers what happened to many of those who got the "free" car? The Big Disappointment.
They had to come up with the delivery fees and sales tax on the car, which some of the "winners" couldn't do. The delivery fees and sales tax on those cars all combined at that time was between $6,000 - $8,000 and some of them (like my cousin) had to forfeit the "free" car because they didn't have the money. The only people who knew the truth about that were the ones who won and couldn't come up with the money. They posted their complaints and reviews online about that, which have since been removed. But my cousin wasn't the only one who was sadly disappointed. We never watched her show after that.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 8, 2018 7:12 PM |
If she ran against Trump or Bannon or one of those demons, then yes, of course.
Otherwise, this hubbub is fucking stupid. Winfrey would not want to give up the work she loves or her profitable businesses to be a bureaucrat. She is already a public servant while also being allowed to be a self-servant. Everything Trump does wrong she has done right.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 8, 2018 7:12 PM |
She shouldn't run unless she wants the gay rumors and her promiscuous younger life to go into overdrive. However, she hasn't made a secret of the latter, so there's that. The former though...
Regardless, if I like what she has to say, I would vote for her.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 8, 2018 7:12 PM |

These are good points too.
I still think she should get her feet wet first, for her own sake really. She's been somewhat-retired the past few years and getting to spend a lot of time in Hawaii. Going from that to the presidency is too much of a 180.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 8, 2018 7:14 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 8, 2018 7:17 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 8, 2018 7:17 PM |
I think this all a ploy to get the twitler in Chief to say something racist against her. You know he really wants to.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2018 7:21 PM |
R60 ?? No, not like that because Hillary had a ton of government experience, whereas with Oprah it would be going from semi-retirement to a new ballgame (although she does have a lot of the skills necessary from her previous work).
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 8, 2018 7:22 PM |
Today on CBS This Morning, they ended a segment with the teaser "is Oprah going to run for president?", then faded to commercial--a Weight Watchers ad of Oprah welcoming strangerfraus into her kitchen, throwing her hands up and booming "Welcome to my FREESTYLE TACO FIESTAAAAAA!!! Who wants a taco?"
More than just an ad, it's a dog-whistle to chubby fraus, Latinos, and the gay community. Subliminally, she is saying "You will EAT my shit and you will LOVE it!"
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2018 7:56 PM |
I’m 44 and so was just becoming politically aware when the first celebrity president, Reagan, was elected. That we’re now selecting politicians from popular culture, like TV and movies, instead of real politicians with backgrounds in law and experience in governing, is a sign of cultural decline and disease. Trump is the reductio ad absurdum result of this tendency, a result of poor public education and profound insularity.
Never forget that Republicans were the first to exploit the office of the president this way. They are a scourge and embarrassment in their present state.
So I’m disgusted by the thought of celebrities running for any office, especially the presidency, but I would still vote for Oprah, because you take what you can get.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2018 7:59 PM |
No. Absolutely not.
If Trump has proven anything, it's that we need a leader with experience in leading, and politics, and thought. Not a talk show host with experience in weight lose and living in the closet.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2018 8:03 PM |
It's just a damn shame Joan Crawford isn't with us. At least she had experience running a multi-national company.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 8, 2018 8:07 PM |
No.
She’s good at what she does. Doesn’t mean she’d be a good president.
Oprah is terribly gullible and probably just as vulnerable to ego-stroking manipulation as our current idiot.
I’d vote for Barack again in a heartbeat.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 8, 2018 8:15 PM |
For all those screeching she doesnt have experience......she has more experience than 95% of people who run...politicians or not. Anyone can run for president....ANYONE. Political experience is not a precursor. Education and actual intelligence are. Oprah has demonstrated she has the ability and the knowledge to surround herself with people who excel in their respective fields. World leaders respect her. When Oprah speaks, people listen. She runs billion dollar businesses that employ thousands of people....who can actually make a living. Shes not a con and pathological liar like Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 8, 2018 8:15 PM |
She is smart, she knows how to read, she does 't live on compliments...she is intelligent but she does have a big head. She has worked no government jobs. So probably not. But she would be better than Trump, a three year old child would be better than Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 8, 2018 8:20 PM |
You’re setting the bar rather low, R68. She’s not a con and pathological liar!
My understanding is that she is not, in fact, well known outside of the US. There have been discussions here about that before here, like people in Britain having never heard of her.
The idea of the president being a cipher supported by his advisors is NOT the ideal. Obama was a statesman, Clinton was as well...in fact, every other Repug candidate nominee last cycle was, too. You would not want your doctor being a really smart, nice, but untrained person being advised by specialists. Do you think that being president is easier than being a doctor, or a mechanic? It actually is a skill that requires experience and training, not a popularity contest.

No. If she ran as a Democrat then it is inevitable that any 'creative accounting' arrangements would come to light given that she is a billionaire. She probably doesn't know how some of her money is moved around for tax-minimising purposes. But, she would get the blame for it.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 8, 2018 8:39 PM |
Unpopular opinion but this started with Obama. He only had two years experience as a Senator before he ran for President. No candidate has come in with as little political experience except for generals that had just won major wars like W.W. 2. If Obama had just waited his turn and run as Hillary's VP in 2008 we wouldn't have Trump and possible President Oprah today.
Hillary would have had her two terms and Obama would be President right now (and a better one because of more experience.) Oh well, it is what it is.

NOPE. I want Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren. She is not qualified. She believes in that stupid book the secret and all the prosperity gospel BS. On top of that she backed, after they had credible Violence allegations: Bill Crosby, Scientology, Harvey Weinstein and Charlie Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 8, 2018 8:56 PM |
She is almost as famous for her Non Disclosure Agreements as Harvey was. One of the reasons she's had mostly good press is that no one who works for her -- or ever worked for her -- can say or write a word. One ex-employee tried to write a book about her experiences at Harpo and was immediately shutdown.

Many years ago I was working on a project with Steadman and he hit on me. No question about it. I asked one of his staffers later (a friend, the one who got me into the meeting) and he said, yeah, it happens.
The friend later told me that Steadman was once sued for sexual harassment and was about to come out of the closet to avoid settling the suit -- Oprah stepped in and paid the suer a shit ton of money to shut up.
The point is, Oprah can't run without her either coming out of the closet, or being outed. And same with Steadman.

Vote for the Democratic candidate, whoever that may be. Even Oprah. Never vote for a Republican, nor for a third party candidate. Ever. None of the Dem possibilities are particularly exciting. Bernie's too old and a joke, so is Biden. Kamala Harris looks good on paper but has very little experience, Gavin Newsome, same issue. Who else? Liz Warren? Nah. She's like a whiny librarian. The little Kennedy is obviously trying to run but he's too young and if we've had too many Clintons and Bushes, we've had way too many Kennedys.

Bernie's NOT qualified. He's a one-issue candidate and has done fuck all in the Senate but rename post offices. He's a loudmouth, do nothing.
Warren's also a one-issue candidate. And I'm afraid Trevor Noah had a point: she claimed to be part native American, she was listed at Harvard as being a native American and, worst of all, contributed 'a family recipe' to a cookbook called "Powwow Chow". That alone'll kill her. The Massachusetts Genealogical Society checked her out and she has zero native American heritage.

And anyone who didn't vote for Clinton because they thought she was unlikable is at least an idiot, if not worse.

The pertinent quote: 'We have no proof that Elizabeth Warren's great-great-great-grandmother O.C. Sarah Smith either is or is not of Cherokee descent,' society spokesman Tom Champoux told the Herald for a May 2012 story.
In other words, this... "The Massachusetts Genealogical Society checked her out and she has zero native American heritage" ...is not true.
Also notice this: "When applying to college and law school, records show that she either identified as white or declined to apply based on minority status."

Oprah would have the benefit of Obama being her go to person should she run into any trouble. Her cabinet would be top notch and the absolute best. Oprah does not skimp when it comes to anything. ( I would personally love it if she appointed Will and Jada Pinkett Smith heads of the National Endowment of Arts). She is incredibly bright and would prioritize based on the average person's true needs.
Think this one through, kids. This could legitimately work.

Oprah won't get too far into it before she decides that there are easier ways finally to get some of the White House pie that Michelle wouldn't give her.

[quote]Hillary would have had her two terms and Obama would be President right now (and a better one because of more experience.) Oh well, it is what it is.
I’m not so sure about that. People HATE Clinton. I’m not sure why, maybe its sexism, maybe her coolness and subsequent (painful) attempts to be warm ‘n’ lovable. Maybe because she’s simply not likable. I would’ve voted for her, but if she only managed a squeaker with our current idiot president, she almost certainly would’ve done worse against anyone else.
That’s assuming that the 2016 wasn’t rigged. I think it was.

by Anonymous | reply 120 | January 9, 2018 12:38 AM |
R120 yep. It killed me during the campaign to see alleged socialists coughing up neocon bullshit from the 90s to trash Hillary. Shows either how ignorant a bunch of Bernie Bros are or how rightwing they really are. I assume a lot of Bernie Bros are the kids of rich, rightwing Republicans. They liked Bernie because he offered them a bunch of freebies (he had no idea how to pay for) just like their parents love the GOP, offering rich people freebies (which they pay for by robbing poor people).
by Anonymous | reply 121 | January 9, 2018 12:47 AM |
the propaganda worked against Hillary. They ramped it up starting in 2014 with the BITCH book and then Benghazi and then the glasses and then finally the private server. Rehashing all of Bill’s stuff finished them off.
What happened to Hillary was a study in 21 century brainwashing/propaganda/smearing. It was a communications story at its heart.
Same story with Obama. They smeared him to kingdom come.

Here’s what anti-Trump Republican strategist Rick Wilson had to say about her in a Politico article:
[QUOTE]For Democrats, what’s not to love?’ Rick Wilson is a Florida-based Republican strategist.
[QUOTE]It’s still an open question as to whether Oprah is a good candidate, but it turns out she’s outstanding at trolling. This probably wasn’t the blow Trump’s already delicate mental state needed. Oprah is vastly more popular with the American people, she has made more money, she has built businesses that haven’t consistently gone bankrupt, and she is better on television. For Democrats, what’s not to love?

I guess this is the desperate place progressives have found themselves that we are inching for Oprah to run. It is true Democratic party is a mess, since Trump won we have not been thinking rationally most of the time. We are willing to latch on to anyone, it is quite pathetic. We need someone who has political experience not someone who gives speeches because they make us feel good at the moment. We should not fall into the Republican trap. I have this weird feeling they might like Oprah to run.

Why would Republicans want Oprah to run?
by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 9, 2018 1:13 AM |
R131 Rick Wilson hates Trump with a passion. In fact, the most powerful anti-Trump voices belong to Republicans, not wimpy Dems: Nicolle Wallace, Steve Schmidt, Richard Painter, Bill Kristol, Stephanie Ruhle.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 9, 2018 1:18 AM |
Because one thing Republicans are good at is playing reverse psychology on progressives. Some might praise Oprah but they have ways to smear her by pointing to progressives use of identity politics. Yes Republicans use it themselves but are good at turning it against Democrats. They will dig up scandals about Oprah that she will regret running. When it all comes down to shove they will all back Trump again and he might win reelection.

Picture of her been chummy with Weinstein, closeted lesbian, a host of other stuffs they will dig out. She is considered an hypocrite for been overly friendly with the king of perv, so that is a start. Republicans don't need to point to her race and gender because they will play it smart while dragging her reputation. Have we not learned anything from 2016.nevermind progressives do not learn. I for one do not want to relive 2016 in the next presidential election, too much stress and anxiety. I just prefer a white progressive male run against Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 9, 2018 1:31 AM |
I would vote for her if she had a competent VP who is experienced in politics. What we have in office now is a joke who is surrounding himself with retards. I don't know how this country is being managed. Oprah is smart and she would surround herself with the best people, probably the same people that served with Obama. As far as foreign policy, she would have to get someone like John Kerry, already experienced.
Anyone but Trump and the GOP
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 9, 2018 1:33 AM |

Stop saying she'd be better than Trump. Anybody is better than Trump and no, I would not vote for her. The presidency is not a popularity contest. We can't keep electing celebrities. If we do we're going to have to severely cut back the powers of the president and let Congress make the executive decisions while the latest "president" does his/her ego dance.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 9, 2018 1:41 AM |

You are underestimating Republicans, I guess you guys learned nothing since last year. Progressives are really stubborn and refuse to learn from their mistakes, it is quiet surreal. You guys have completely lost your collective minds due to extreme Trump derangement snydrome. All because the other side nominated a celebrity and he won does not mean we should try and implement the same thing. The Democratic party is a mess and desperate which is not a good look. Progressives still don't know how to beat Trump.

I guess those that refuse to vote for Oprah learned something and those that do think nominating their own celeb to counter the other party have learned nothing. I am a progressive and I do believe that nominating Oprah is a true sign of desperation. There are truly qualified progressive candidates but most of them seem weak. There has to be someone besides a celebrity who can beat Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 9, 2018 1:51 AM |
In a primary a HUGE NO, but if she won the nomination, I will vote for the Democrat regardless of who they are, virtually no one the Democrats put up could be worse than Trump/Pence.
I don't think we need to encourage this idea of someone with no experience in government is a good idea.

[quote]I am a progressive and I do believe that nominating Oprah is a true sign of desperation.
Her speech and rumored run have gotten more attention than any other prospective democratic candidate. Maybe it is a sign of desperation, but at which end?
If you don't want Oprah to run, you better find someone who can generate just as much excitement and buzz (if not more) than she has just within one day. It's that simple. Griping about it is futile and a waste of time.
I wonder how many of the same people who are complaining about Oprah complained about Clinton running in 2016 and how she was "coronated" even though everyone knew for several years that her run was likely and had more than enough time to get another candidate out there?
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 9, 2018 1:58 AM |
George W. Bush was a dunce and what we have now in the office is an Orange nightmare. At least Bush surrounded himself with experienced politicians but he made a bad decision in invading Iraq. I seem to remember that people wanted Mike Bloomberg or Mike Cuban to run. Is it because they're male? People discredit her because she is a black woman?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 9, 2018 2:00 AM |
The speech was alright but please let's think with our head not with our emotions. Fellow progressives losing their collective minds is just really a turn off. This is not the time for gender and racial identity politics.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | January 9, 2018 2:03 AM |
In the primary? No, I would not vote for her. If somehow she got the nomination and it was her vs. Trump, well, then yes, at least she's not lazy or demented. Narcissist, yes, not as smart as a president should be, but I suppose Nate Berkus as Secretary of the Interior would be miles ahead of current, fuckwit, Ryan Zinke.
Anyway, she won't run.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | January 9, 2018 2:05 AM |
No, not because she's a black woman. Because she's ego tripping. If she ran against Trump I'd have to vote for a third party. The fact that we're discussing this is proof that our country is no longer to be taken seriously.

She's possibly thin-skinned if people aren't kissing her ass. I base this on her feud with Letterman after the Uma Oprah bit at the Oscars that year. She didn't speak to him for years, as I recall.
I doubt she's as thin-skinned as Trump (I don't think it's scientifically possible that another adult human being could be) and I'm sure she wouldn't taunt CNN hosts or North Korea on Twitter, but she does seem to have a massive ego. Mostly contained for the public, but massive nonetheless.

Motivational speakers have the gift of public speaking, but they never really turn it off in their personal lives and they seem not exactly fake but not exactly normal, either. Oprah speaks in platitudes and quotes, and I think she probably goes as deep as a dewdrop.
Nice lady, though!

America's minimal criteria for a presidential candidate should be that they haven't publicly referenced their genitalia in any capacity. This is overconfidence, a chronic problem that we have as Democrats. We thought anyone could beat Trump in 2016. We thought George W. Bush would never win a second term and that anyone could beat him in 2004. We're great at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. If we nominate someone in 2020 who is weak, lacks charisma or has trouble relating to middle America, then I think a second Trump term is a definite possibility. A lot of voters in 2016 thought Trump was unqualified, rude, and not fit to be president -- but they voted for him anyway. Don't pretend that the same thing couldn't happen again in 2020.

The United States is built on three powerhouses: Military might, Hollywood glamour/mythos, and money. The last of these is on shaky ground. Expect more famous, mega-wealthy people to continue to build out our oligarchy and if Trump doesn’t somehow annex us as a property of Russia first, even more desperate overt military and economic bullying of other countries and more profit-making war. That’s our future—until we finally poison ourselves through tainted food and water, and we collapse like Rome.

DL, I j'adore you, but this thread is very sissy-la-la.
First and foremost, let this Oprah thing be completely organic. Do nothing to encourage it, but don't try to kill it either. It should be COMPLETELY ignored until/unless she claws her way through the primaries. Then, you support her. If you promote her candidacy in the primaries, even chatting on threads like this a lot, then you're a POS and you're ignorant.
Second, I'm showing my age, but it is SHOCKING how few know her childhood. Oprah didn't have any *shoes* until she was 8 (if memory serves). She is literally the American dream embodied. She came from the most ignorant poverty you can imagine. When her mother speaks, it barely sounds like English, I'm guessing her mother's IQ is maybe 85. Oprah is the first female African-American billionaire in the world -- the first! She is a sublime force in media. Yes, OWN is a bust, but put in the context over her lifetime business dealings, it is a tiny blip. She is as good as it gets in terms of her business acumen, particularly in the area of media. Furthermore, her philanthropic work has been her passion for decades (unlike our President) and she was praised by countless former employees for her generosity. I can guarantee Oprah did not know about the free cars having additional fees, and likely by the time it got to her, it was just a mess by then anyway. (And the poster who's family was pissed about this are silly asshats).
Oprah is not perfect. She's definitely flakey and too New Agey when it comes to spirituality and personal self-help. Hollywood has deeeeeeffffinitely rubbed off on her over the years, she isn't as earthy as she was earlier in her career. She's definitely a material girl. But she is also an enormous school advocate and would undoubtably FUND education in America. The pros likely quadruple the cons for O.
Having said all that, Oprah is indeed trolling -- this is all for her new movie promo. And for that, she should be called out. "Oprah, Republicans accuse you of taking advantage of the public by essentially "teasing" the American people about running for President. How do you respond to the accusations of creating a "fake news" presidential run to promote your new movie?" Corner her, shit or get off the pot, O.

[quote]This is overconfidence, a chronic problem that we have as Democrats. We thought anyone could beat Trump in 2016.
Yeah, and how many Democrats thought they were being so cute and clever when they registered as Republicans so they could vote for Trump in the primaries, thus giving Hillary an easy win? Dumb asses got handed their asses by deplorables.

If she won the Democratic nomination, then yes. I don't believe she's the ideal candidate, but she's a far better option than who we have at the moment.

She's more qualified than Trump. That's not saying much, but it's still true. That said, I wouldn't vote for her in the primaries, but I'd vote for a boiled turnip over a Republican. So, yeah, if she was the nominee and my only other option was some GOP Nazi, I'd vote for her.

Oprah does not wipe properly.

If it comes down to Trump v. Oprah I will seriously leave the country. I remember thinking the Republicans would never allow Trump to be the nominee, but here we are, where up is down and down is up and the whole country is going to rot.

No. No prior political expererience. As much as we love her political views, her finger is still on the nuclear button. We need a diplomat who can solve problems without launching missiles. My opinion.

Yes!!!

She's not an idiot, R5. OP is correct about her strengths and weaknesses. I would prefer not to vote for her, but it depends on who her opponent is.

Oprah is a scam artist who peddled that "Secret" nonsense onto her cultish audience members. Enough with these celebrity presidents!
by Anonymous | reply 211 | January 24, 2018 2:34 AM |
The OP is insane, as are all the crazies who think Oprah Winfrey should be President. She's as qualified to be President as Donald Trump is. In other words, she is not qualified at all. And don't shriek "but she'd be better than Trump!" That's faint praise; a rock would be better than Donald Trump. She's a a narcissistic, obscenely wealth media personality who has never held political office and has never had any experience governing. She is UNFIT to be President. My God, have people gone entirely mad? I can't believe that anyone would take the idea of Oprah Winfrey as president seriously. It is truly insane.

R212 Our country is insane and ignorant by will. What else would you expect?
by Anonymous | reply 213 | January 24, 2018 3:12 AM |
The OP is the Oprah Troll posting from multiple IP's. Everyone should block her. When she comes back using another device/IP address (and she will) block her again. She is using a gay board to promote Oprah. I suspect since LSA is not anonymous she can't preach and promote Oprah there. Oprah hasn't even announced that she will definitely run. If she were POTUS, she would not give black people reparation. Get off your soapbox and stop with these Oprah threads.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | January 24, 2018 3:57 AM |
R212, no one but a few crazies thinks she *should* be president. But, like I said, I'd vote for a boiled turnip over a Republican.

Whalepra is a fat frau scam artist like dump, she is a 1 percent'er she's part of dumps circle so why are people here all of a sudden in love with this closet dyke?
by Anonymous | reply 216 | January 24, 2018 9:21 AM |
Absolutely not. The next president needs to have some government experience and political connections. Otherwise, it's a four-year paid learn-basic-politics-on-the-job gig.

I'd rather vote for Honey Boo Boo.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | January 24, 2018 9:29 AM |
I wouldn't vote for her if she ran for a bus.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | January 24, 2018 9:44 AM |
No.
But, I'd vote for Gayle!

I swear to Satan, political aspirations or no --if La Oprah and Witherspoon ruin "A Wrinkle in Time" - I'll be outraged!

After watching that clip of Michelle Obama on Ellen - it makes me wonder if Michelle really might run now. That was very let's all come together as Americans comment.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | February 9, 2018 1:41 AM |
I'd vote for her if she was the Dem nominee opposing the Moron. But I think I've had enough of celebrities trying to run the government.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | February 9, 2018 2:26 AM |
BREAKING ANNOUNCEMENT: Oprah said she's NOT running.
Not everyone likes her and is an Oprah fan, and those who are fans many of them don't want her in the Oval Office.
End of story.
