Tech Question

Is there a way to browse the web on your TV?

by Anonymousreply 10January 9, 2018 12:18 AM

Plug in a PC or laptop that has HDMI output

Your smart TV will have built-in capability to connect to your WiFi and comes with apps for major sites and probably browsing, although it may be somewhat cumbersome navigating without benefit of a mouse or touchscreen.

My TV is a few years old and sadly dumb, are there any devices that can let you browse the web on an older TV? I have a Roku but it doesn't have a built-in web browser.

r3 I think BILL TAYLOR still uses that.

You can use a ChromeCast and stream from your phone, tablet, or computer to a TV.

I was looking more for something that let you browse the internet on your TV.

R1 already answered your question. Your TV is just a monitor with some extra bells and whistles.

Do any of the streaming devices have built-in web browsers?

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2018 11:58 PM

Not sure of streamers but for about $150 you can get a “stick-pc”, looks like an overgrown thumbdrive with an HDMI plug on its end, has wifi usb etc, pair it with a small wireless keyboard and you’re in business. A Windows version would allow you to use whatever browser you want and Flash, Acrobat, etc where some smart-tvs only have a limited browser.
