I she an actor? Is she a singer? Is she a celebrity? What is she?
Marie Osmond
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 15, 2018 9:11 PM |
She is a weight loss promoter now.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 7, 2018 12:14 AM |
A little bit country,
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 7, 2018 12:15 AM |
She's a professional celebrity. Just Susanne Summers. There both the same.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 7, 2018 12:17 AM |
You name it she sells it. Hilarious how she calls herself only by her first name like Cher or Lucy. Hunty most of us think of other Maries when they hear this name.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 7, 2018 12:23 AM |
She's had an odd career. People forget that besides her TV shows she was a genuine music star in the 70s and 80s: she had two #1 country hits on her own with "Paper Roses" (which was also #5 on the pop charts) and "There's No Stoppin' Your Heart," and she had duets with Dan Seals ("Meet me in Montana") and Paul Davis ("You're Still New to Me") that also hit #1 on the country charts. Plus, believe it or not, Donny and Marie actually hit #4 on the pop charts with "I'm Leaving It All Up to You" and then #8 with "The Morning Side of the Mountain." So, weirdly enough, she has actually been a hit music performer--she's had more hits than many other famous singers.
She was very beautiful when young in this very late 70s shiny lipgloss way (SPY Magazine used to refer to her as "Mormon sex kitten Marie Osmond"), but she was also anorexic and an unhappy molestation survivor, as well as a pop culture joke. She grew up to be from all accounts a very sweet but very fragile woman with a lot of psychological problems. She's struggled for most of her adult life both with her weight and her psychological health. She hs pretty much a pathetic need for the public spotlight very much like Suzanne Somers. It's hard to feel sorry for her, but she's not had a happy life.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 7, 2018 12:26 AM |
A Mormon.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 7, 2018 12:26 AM |
Her gay son killed himself.
Her lesbian daughter became an ex-gay, I think?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 7, 2018 12:29 AM |
Her son wasn't gay but her daughter is a lesbian and she supports her 100%. So much so that she threatened to leave the church if they didn't get off her back about her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 7, 2018 12:38 AM |
All the reports at the time of the suicide were that he was gay and that Marie and the father did not support this.
Only after he killed himself did Marie suddenly publicly change her views on gays.
And the "lesbian" has flip-flopped back to men a few times.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 7, 2018 12:41 AM |
"Pathetic need to be in the spotlight"
Get real.........give us an example. She seems to lead a pretty low key life.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 7, 2018 1:02 AM |
Maybe she needs money.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 7, 2018 1:04 AM |
Besides Nutri System, what else is she selling?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 7, 2018 1:04 AM |
Hasn't she also popped up on The View or The Talk as a fill-in from time to time?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 7, 2018 1:06 AM |
R3 - please learn to spell
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 7, 2018 1:07 AM |
R14 you need to go get some. It must be very hard being all alone on a Saturday night and no one around to keep you warm. You must lead a sad life. So please don't take that aggression out on me because I misspelled some has been from the 70s name. Chill bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 7, 2018 1:16 AM |
Hasbien, R15? Like Marie's daughter?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 7, 2018 1:17 AM |
At the tender age of 17, it appears Andy Gibb was the one to have 'picked' her first flower.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 7, 2018 1:23 AM |
She probably blew Donny on the bus.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 7, 2018 1:34 AM |
But WHAT is she selling r4?
Name one of the "you name it, she sells it" products.
NutriSystem doesn't count.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 7, 2018 1:42 AM |
R9, what reports? The only thing I could find is Roseanne saying it, so you know what that means.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 7, 2018 1:53 AM |
She and Donny have a residency in Vegas at the Flamingo, have been there since 2008. That's a pretty good income stream. Their "Dancing With the Stars" costumes are on display.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 7, 2018 1:53 AM |
She gained fifty pounds and is now going by the name of Sarah Sanders.

But you tell yourself what you need to, sweetheart!

Whatever she is, she's very busy as depicted in those Nutri System ads. Checking her phone while getting her hair retouched, going over shit with the producer. I'm surprised she has time to eat in the first place.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 7, 2018 2:15 AM |
She was an advocate for her gay daughter well before the death of her son. And as said upthread, she went up against her church publically, for quite awhile. I like her, alot.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 7, 2018 2:17 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 7, 2018 2:18 AM |

How does she know "2018 is going to be phenomenal?" **smile**
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 7, 2018 2:33 AM |
She was the youngest female at the time to have a #1 country hit. She and Donny hosted an hour long variety show at ages 16 and 18. No one had done that before. Who could at that age do that now?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 7, 2018 2:35 AM |
She's a celebrity spokesmodel!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 7, 2018 3:41 AM |
Marie is an entertainer.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 7, 2018 4:54 AM |
I saw her starting in the road tour of the 1990s version of The King and I. To my surprise, she was really REALLY good.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 7, 2018 5:01 AM |
She still does the shows with Donny and they're very well received. Lots and lots of British fans. It is said that Donny might be the showman but Marie has the voice and many have come away impressed that she goes from Broadway to Country to Rock to opera with ease.. She does "But the World Goes Round", "Paper Roses" and "Nessun Dorma"
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 7, 2018 5:02 AM |
Not bad, she made a career from one hit song in her life.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 7, 2018 5:03 AM |
I loved her in Tosca.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 7, 2018 5:04 AM |
She's hawking NutriSystem on QVC right now. It's Today's Special Value.

She used to designs dolls. Dunno what happened there.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 7, 2018 5:07 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 7, 2018 5:08 AM |
I think the world is a better place for Marie being in it.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 7, 2018 5:14 AM |
My best friend has a sister who had a daughter commit suicide. He took his sister to Vegas for some Rand R after it happened. Somehow, my friend got word to Marie at the Flamingo (where the show is). He told her about his sister's situation and one of Marie's people got in touch and invited them backstage for after the show. They did so, and when Marie came out and saw them, she walked up to my friend's sister and embraced her. My friend said that Marie and his sister stood there and cried. Marie brought her into her dressing room and they talked for an hour. They talked about what it is like to be the parent of a child who died at their own hand and their mutual sorrow.
I've admired Marie since then.

I met her once on a flight when I was bumped up to FIrst, she was totally friendly and delightful and very down-to-earth. She had an Emotional Support Animal in a wicker cage in the seat beside her -- a tarantula. Weird choice I guess but she was super nice
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 7, 2018 6:24 AM |
She lost 60 pounds and her last name on Nutrisystem.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 7, 2018 7:09 AM |
What's amazing is that every year she lost 50 pounds.
And for some reason - people love her and she sells.
I don't get it - but there you have it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 7, 2018 7:16 AM |
What's there NOT to like? She's cute, she can sing, she is a nice person and has had her share of problems and comes clean about them and that makes her relatable to the public who can identify with her and know she's not special.
Her three 80s albums of music are great, if you like 80s pop with a country twang you'll love them.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 7, 2018 3:53 PM |
Somehow seems over thd top and phony even tho she may very well be a nice person. Her schtick is not for every one, however. Donnie was surprisingly good in Joseph.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 7, 2018 4:10 PM |
Marie always struck me as a mother who would support her kids no matter what. Years back, after her divorce, she was on the Oprah show and she played a clip where Marie said to please leave her kids out of this. Back to live and Oprah asked how the kids were doing. She gave a standard "they're having trouble dealing with the fact that mom and dad aren't living together", etc. Oprah kept pressing and finally said "this is my last question on the subject" and Marie shot back, "It better be or I'm going to start asking why you don't have any children." Oprah was stunned but you knew that Marie meant business. It was like, come near my kids and I'll kill you, Oprah or not.

Donny and Marie's show in Vegas is wonderful- she really Carrie's it though.
Very chic dresser too, and gay-friendly. I liked her.

Marie did make Oprah a doll as Kathy Griffin pointed out.
Richard Simmons gave her one and she never had him on the show again.

I love the way she looks in her drag queen makeup and wig. Plus she wears as much foundation garments as Wendy Williams!

by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 8, 2018 2:53 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2018 6:41 PM |
When I met Marie after her show (didn't talk to Donny), it was a few years ago when those band-aid dresses were in style. Her body was killer, and whatever plastic surgery she had has settled- she looked better than when she was younger.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 8, 2018 6:46 PM |
Does anyone ever call her by her real name, Olive?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2018 7:11 PM |
I remember reading that soon after the son died that Marie sang a tribute song to him in their Las Vegas extravganza.
She was dressed entirely in white with a kind of halo effect emanating from her head. As she got to the climax of the emotionally draining song, an unearthly, overhead spotlight shineth down on her head as she stood there with her tear stained face looking up to the roof of the gambling casino theater. She received an explosive round of clap as the spotlight slowly dimmed.
She is also plugging some new exercise equipment now too.
She did have the good sense to remarry that delicious looking first husband after a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2018 7:13 PM |
I rode an elevator with her once. She was simply delightful, singing and sharing showbiz/life stories with us as she inflated long balloons she pulled from her purse, twisting them into fanciful shapes and animals appropriate for our individual personalities. We were all laughing and crying by the 37th floor, where her dermatologist practices, apparently.
I still carry the long-deflated balloon heart she made me, though it now resembles a dirty, knotted rubber band. You can still see a tiny "Love always, xoxo, Marie" on the shrunken rubber, though the greasy lipstick kiss wore off years ago.
She told me that I had really inspired her during that ride, and I will always remember the look in her eyes when she said that. She's the real deal.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 8, 2018 8:34 PM |
I read somewhere she wears the wigs and the make-up, in part. so when she wants to go out incognito, she simply ditches them and no one recognizes her. Her disguise to not be seen in public is to she her public persona.
I would imagine the pressure she felt from the family to produce when she was younger was fairly intense. I think she was only 14 when Paper Roses made it big, and they were young when they did the variety show.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 9, 2018 2:23 AM |
Really surprised people love her do much. I always thought there was something phony and off- putting about her and the whole Osmond clan. Admittedly I never wanted to watch her or read anything about her because- yuck. I’m a stone hearted bitch, I guess.

I've found that to be the case with many Mormons I've met.

R69, Marie's a show biz trooper. She was trained to act in that phony, the show must go on demeanor. The public Marie and the private one are different. I've known her since she was 17 (long story but she was friends with my friends who were also Mormons and we went to school at UniHigh which is near the Mormon Temple in Westwood). Being in the industry since she was essentially born, she was already more worldly than most and there was little she hadn't already seen. But she has to put on the good two shoes act for the public.

R73, upthread it was said that she was wiling to leave the Church if they didn't shut up about her Lesbian daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 15, 2018 5:59 PM |
And in another interview decades back, she said she was going to leave the church because they tried to prevent her from getting divorced. Ironically, she ended up re-marrying the first husband saying they were right for each other but not at the time they got married.

My uncle invited me to his Mormon church with him, and I went a few times. There’s a sermon at the beginning, and some songs then everyone gets sent off somewhere. Kids go to a church school lesson, and adults attend a... I think it was called a ward. The equivalent of an adult Sunday school. It’s like an adult discussion group, with a lot of communication skills used.
From there, what bugged the fuck out of me was that (the women in particular) were relentless about how my uncle was disrespecting the church by wearing jeans there. My uncle took their insults for a bit, then defended himself that he was currently poor/jobless, but his clothes were clean. (At the time, he was quite ill with some health issues).
Until that point in my life, I’d thought you had to be an old church lady in library clothes to be that fucking miserable and judgemental at church. But no. There they were, upwardly mobile snobs in their 30’s and 40’s. Wearing their best clothes for God, who obviously liked them best.
