She was a hoot, a one of a kind...to be missed for sure
....Rose Marie ....Dies at 94

I use to see her in the valley driving her old Rolls, always with the black bow.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 29, 2017 12:38 AM |
Apparently true. She had a darn good run.
She began at the age of 3 by winning an amateur contest that took her to Atlantic City where she was billed as Baby Rose Marie. She became a popular radio personality appearing on numerous top shows of the time. She eventually received her own program on NBC and recorded some of the most successful albums on the Mercury label. Her extensive touring took her to some of the finest showplaces across the country.
Rose Marie would sing for presidents Coolidge, Hoover and Roosevelt. She starred in several of the earliest talking films, beginning with a 1929 short, Baby Rose Marie the Child Wonder, which was screened in theaters before feature films such as "The Jazz Singer."

Rose Marie! Morey Amsterdam!

I liked her. She must have seen everything.

Rose Marie was on the Doris Day Show for a couple of years back in the late 1960's, early '70's.

"Onstage, she starred with Rosemary Clooney, Helen O’Connell and Margaret Whiting in the musical revue “4 Girls 4,” which toured the U.S. and made television appearances for several years beginning in 1977."
I guess one of them must have died when I saw their act in 1980. In 1980 it was called "3 Girls 3", and they performed at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans.

The actress did have conflicts with Reiner, resenting that Moore was given more prominence than her on the show. Reiner, speaking in "Wait for Your Laugh," bluntly pushed back. "I used real strong language," he recalled. "I said, 'You both have beautiful legs. They wanna look at her legs.'"
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 29, 2017 2:23 AM |
Please excuse the Fox link, but this is a good chronicle of the friendship between Rose Marie and Doris Day.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 29, 2017 2:29 AM |
She wanted "more prominence" on the show? I'd say she got lots of prominence; she was in nearly every episode. And Mary Tyler Moore played the wife of the star of the show, so of course her role would be bigger. What, did good old Rose want to be the only female star on the show? She should have known better than that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Carl Reiner doesn’t outlive Dick Van Dyke. Both are incredibly active for 90+, but watching Reiner on his visits to CONAN impressed me so much. He talked one time in the last year or two about a fall he had down his stairs and how he got up and walked away. He does stretches in his bed every day which he credited for his amazing health. He even wrote a book about his exercises.

Probably late Sunday night. That's my guess.

She was on today, r21. Someone else typed for her but she composed the tweets, and she told fantastic tales and had great pictures. She was even spilling tea on producers who wanted her to put out for roles.
I know she attended at least one screening of her documentary recently and would answer questions of fans too, so she was doing well.
At 94 you can go at any second, but this still seems too soon. What a legend.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 29, 2017 2:56 AM |
I agree with R35. I’ve seen both Rob and Carl doing interviews, and they’re both great guests.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 29, 2017 3:42 AM |
It’s so sad. She just tweeted 3 hours before she died. I know she was 94, but it’s still a shock for her to die so suddenly.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 29, 2017 4:27 AM |
Did she like Dick?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 29, 2017 4:53 AM |
She was married for a long time.to Bobby Guy, who had success in the 40s with Kay Kyser's band, and worked for years in NBC's house band. He died of sepsis suddenly in 1964 and Rose Marie almost quit DVDS after his death.

There are apps that can schedule Tweets on Twitter, so likely she was not, you know, keying in a tweet 3 hours before. But she WAS probably engaged with whoever was helping her until a few days before, to be sure.

When the show was being planned, the intention was that Rob's life at the office would be at the center. Rose Marie would indeed have had the largest woman's part. Then Moore got cast and Reiner and Van Dyke were astonished at what an unexpected flair for comedy she had and what a quick study she was. Then, from the first episode, Moore became an audience favorite. Rob's family life was given a prominence that hadn't been planned and Rose Marie's, Morey Amsterdam's and Richard Deacon's parts became less important and reduced.

What about Doris Day, she fired her
And let's not forget her most famous role, what about George Federman and P&G
The lack of comments is scandalous and shows how universally despised she was

Doris fired virtually everyone off her show every year. It came with a new cast pretty much every year.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 30, 2017 8:10 AM |
Rose Marie and Doris Day were great friends for 50 years. Doris was recently interviewed about 3 weeks ago about the friendship.
And RM was not universally loathed, not in the slightest.
Sorry this is Fox News but it's a good article on their friendship.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 30, 2017 8:27 AM |
I should also mention that everyone was fired from The Doris Day Show after the 3rd season and the show was completely overhauled. RM being fired wasn't some scandal, it was just part of the change in premise.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 30, 2017 8:30 AM |
Rose was a year younger than Doris but looked like a pile of dried up dog shit, next to Doris.

Her real name is Mazatta, I mean it's OK not to use your last name now but back then it was a real douchey thing to do.
Even she joined in claiming some guy wanted to sexually harass her. Of course she waited till now to tell about the harassment that supposedly took place more than 50 years ago. And of course she didn't give into it. And OF COURSE she left out the part where she was a lesbian.

I read on another thread that Rose Marie may have been partially responsible for the notorious dog eats baby video occasionally (and cruelly) posted on DL.

Not quite r44. The producers did decide to focus a lot of attention on Rob's home life. But it wasn't Mary Tyler Moore that audiences loved. It was ME, neighbor Millie. Yes, had it not been for me, those scenes would have fallen flatter than Baby Rose Marie's tits.

"jesus that little video is Painful...."
Oh, come on. It's not "painful", it's quaint. A little girl with a growly singing voice, flirting with a hunky guy...it was meant to be comedic, which it was. Anybody who finds it lewd needs to lighten up.
Baby Rose Marie was singing those silly love songs from that era at her young age, but it's not offensive. What I thought was offensive was what happened to poor Lena Zavaroni. She was a Scottish child singer who gained notice from appearing on a British talent show called "Opportunity Knocks.' She made her first album at age 10 and had a hit with an awful old song called "Ma! He's Making Eyes At Me." I found THAT song a pretty creepy choice for a little girl to be singing; it ended with little Lena belting out "Mamaaa! He's kissing me!" Her first album featured her singing songs like "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and "River Deep Mountain High", extremely inappropriate songs for a child to be singing. Anyway, "the little girl with the big voice", in her ankle socks and pinafores and hair ribbons, was popular on tv variety shows for a few years. Then she became passe...and anorexic. She became more and more ill and went into a hospital to have a brain operation (a lobotomy?) to get rid of the "static" that was driving her crazy. She died of a chest infection; she had no strength to fight it. And she died broke, her career having ended long ago. Baby Rose Marie, unlike the hapless Lena Zavaroni, weathered being a child star and continued to have a career and a life that lasted a long time. Stardom at a young age: some people can handle it and some people can't.
