They'll have to have on guests because I really don't think Anderson and Andy can carry a live 4 hour block alone. I checked the tv guide and CNN gave Don Lemon and Brooke Baldwin another half hour from New Orleans (this will be their third year I think). Usually they check in before their official half hour though. It will be very interesting to see Don Lemon speaking to Andy Cohen on camera, especially if 1 or both is drunk. Remember Andy said Don Lemon was tough to work with on his WWHL live show when a viewer asked Anderson who the most difficult person at CNN is. Anderson didn't answer so Andy through out Don's name. Of course a week ago we saw Don Lemon with his bf posing with Anderson & Ben at Anderson's annual CNN xmas party.

The ONLY good thing about NYE was Anderson and Kathy, and now that's gone. I really don't know how I'm going to cope this year.

The weather forecast for Manhattan on NYE is very very cold. The PM temp should get no warmer than 10 degrees F.

Back when Kathy was hosting NYE with Anderson, people on DL used to complain non-stop about how terrible and unfunny those 2 were together, that their schtick was tired and lame, etc.... So it's something of a surprise to hear the very same people now lamenting the departure of Kathy and saying she was the only good thing about NYE.

Bottom line is, Anderson and Andy will be watched by pretty much every single person who has posted on this thread (especially those who furiously claim that they won't watch), if only so that they can post on DL about how bad they are. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure that no matter how much a train wreck the CNN NYE show may be, it will still be a lot more fun than anything else on TV that night.

Andy Cohen does not have a huge national fan base like Kathy...I don't see the numbers being higher to see two annoying gay men giggle their way through a dumb NYE special.

They do seem to have a hit roadshow that always gets great reviews from people who've seen it so they must have SOME kind of chemistry or rapport together to be entertaining.

The reality is that DL has a peculiar love/hate (with a strong emphasis on hate) relationship with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, while most people outside of DL don't feel any particular animosity towards either. So whenever the topic of either guys comes up on DL, we get a rather extreme reaction that has little to do with who they actually are. Which is fine, as long as the people posting here don't mistake their subjective opinion for a general consensus.

As an aside, the overall hypocrisy on this thread is pretty stunning: back when Kathy was co-hosting with Anderson, every thread about NYE on DL was about how terrible and unfunny those 2 were together. can someone tell me how Anderson came to be CNN's #1 guy? I mean he's got a 2 hour show (though in a week it will be down to 1 hour) plus he co-hosts their "CNN Heroes" show and the NYE show. His personality is as bland as his coloring. There's really nothing interesting about him.

R359 - First, you're making the assumption that comedic talent and being able to host a tv show are related, which I never said & wouldn't even agree with. I actually said it is bland and boring people who are hosting more talk shows whereas people with personalities are relegated to "guest" or temporary fill in status. But here are some other reasons.

1. Kathy had an actual "talk show" with an audience, large crew, and studio. Andy's club house evolved from a tiny 10 x 10 room / experiment. The first one is far more expensive to maintain and therefore requires more of an audience (from day 1) than Andy's "talk show" which built an audience very slowly over time & only expanded to a new studio relatively recently. The early episodes look like public access tv.

2. Kathy complained numerous times that Bravo didn't sufficiently promote the show or spend any money on it. WWHL, back in the day, was constantly advertised after all of the main housewives shows and top chef, etc...

3. Andy never really had the same risk of being fired for low ratings that Kathy did because Andy's show is partially a commercial for Bravo shows, not really just a talk show. So, I would speculate that Bravo sees value in it without ratings typically needed to support it (aside from the fact Andy is an executive at Bravo anyway).

Other than Chelsea Handler and Joan Rivers ages ago, no woman has had a successful late night show (and Chelsea's new show on Netflix failed) - so that's an open question I'd have too.
