Let's Bring Back Rolled Hair, Style-Conscious Homosexuals!
The 1940s was a great era for "rolled hair"--elaborate twisting, turning, and tucking of long hair into beautiful, face-framing styles. I think many women look divine in this look. So elegant!
Nowadays, with so many women of every age sporting long, long, long hair, this is the antidote we've been waiting for! Who's with me?

I wore my hair like this for prom. It’s very pretty, OP. But most of us frauen are much too busy to do this. And straight men don’t give af if women roll their hair.

men's hair was more sculpted, too

I think there is a real crisis in women's fashion and style. Really everyone, of course. With women, it is the boring long hair and leggings - SO UNATTRACTIVE, so lacking in style.
Is it the Kardashian influence? All the cheap clothes from China? Or what? I really think we need dress codes. Anna Wintour isn't helping with all the junk she puts in Vogue.

So much more flattering than all those aging Real Housewives, with their tired, lank, over processed hair hanging on both sides of their botoxed faces.

I like this kind of wavy style from the 30s and 40s

My mother was a child/teen in the 40s, with a lovely head of thick, chestnut brown hair, but it was straight as a pin. (I inherited it.) She adored natural curls, especially on men, and continued to "set" her hair well into the 1970s.
Had she been born 10-20 years later, women would have lined up to achieve her hairstyle in its natural state.

This century, Gwen Stefani has already tried to revive this trend, OP. Hubris to think you’ll succeed where she has failed.

More "victory rolls."
I like Gwen Stefanie, R12, but I think her style is too harsh and off-putting for most women (especially young women) to emulate The roll needs a soft, feminine look, not something approaching trans. Gwen is fun, but she's rarely (if ever) elegant.

I prefer this look. It’s much softer and more subtle than the pinned up roll. It allows for modern femininity, with a touch of 1940s glamour. It can also be worn from the office, to the dinner party.
What do you think, OP?

I love big soft waves, R22. Those photos are gorgeous. Almost any woman looks fabulous in that look.
I do think it's time for women to reconsider the roll, though. Again, so elegant and flattering.

The roll and the soft wave because the roll is not for everyone.

The trollish gays who keep insisting women need to spend 2 hours on their hair, wear skirts and gloves and hats at all times, stay home and not work, and never be out in public without an escort are tiring. This "women should be shoved back into the 1940s" bit was played out years ago.

Women used to save up hair shed by brushing and stuff it into a hairnet to make a "rat" that added volume.

I love these old-fashioned styles and wish they would return. But these days you couldn't get through airport security with most of those large loopy-curl styles and glamorous updo's. They'd think you had drugs hidden in there. They'd make you take your hair down while they "search" your hair for drugs. Or small weapons.

I'm with you, OP, and I wish people would make more of an effort, as R25 suggests. That goes for clothes as well as hairstyles.

I’d like to EVERONE, both male and female, make more of an effort to look well groomed and well dressed. There are so many filthy slobs out and about. How much extra effort does it take to have a shower in the morning and choose outdoor clothes instead of a fucking onesie to go grocery shopping? I’ve seen sweaty, hairy, fat men wandering around in a superhero onesie. What the fuckety fuck? And ladies, those stained (and strained) leggings don’t suit anyone over 20 years or 110lbs.
Wash yourself, wear clothing appropriate to your surroundings. It’s not much to ask.

I love many of those 1930 -1950's hairstyles but they are time-consuming to achieve and hard to maintain. Plus you'd need a ton of hairspray to keep it in place.

Back in the 80s & 90s, a lot of the girls in our Rockabilly crowd wore their hair in 40s styles, and they looked very cute. I was at a reunion last year, and some of these women still wore the retro rolled hair. It made them look so old and hideous, it aged them 20 years. You really have to be young and fresh to pull off such an old-fashioned look.

Same with cats-eye spectacles, ‘kooky’ barrettes, beads and bangles, anime Ts, Mary Jane shoes etc., r44. Fine if you’re under 25, over and it’s a bit try-hard desperate.

In the early '60s my mother did her hair up in what she called a "French Twist."
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 19, 2017 9:26 PM

French twists made a brief comeback in 1992-94(think a newly youthened Ivana Trump with her snow cone French twist updo.)
It was easy to do and I still had a great neck and jawline so it worked for me. Now it would make me look like an English Bulldog.

I notice that in period films of that era, they never seem to get it right. The actresses’ hair or wigs usually end up looking moulded with mousse instead of the styling gel or spray actually used in those days.
