DL Fave Zachary Levi gives first peak at Shazam physique

I like Zack Levi - but I don't get this casting at all. I am also not sure there was a big demand for a Shazam movie.

It is weird -- DC has been unable to make Captain Marvel viable since it acquired the Marvel Family characters in 1972. And now there are two movies based on the property underway? (At least Black Adam has fared better in the comics -- though he's only been an intermittent presence.)

And I agree that Zachary Levi, whom I also like, seems completely wrong for the role. I could maybe see him as Captain Marvel Jr., though he's too old.

Has he given an interview yet where he brags about gettinghis pumped up, muscular body with a new diet and a trainer who kicks his ass while neglecting to mention the needle full of juice that goes into his butt a few times a week?

He's got a body type that can handle more muscle, I think he can get there by just eating more and working out like a fiend. He's not one of the skinny twinks who need steroids to gain an ounce.

That said... I never cared about anything he did on TV, and was wary about the rumors of his fundamentalist Christianity, but he wowed me on Bway in SHE LOVES ME. He was terrific. One of the strengths of a good (but not great) production.

We don't usually get these kinds of videos when they shoot other Marvel and DC movies, do we? The curse of filming on location, I guess. The most recent one I remember was Blanchett's stunt double doing a flip on the set of Thor: Ragnarok.

It seems that "peak -- peek -- pique" are being confused with each other almost as often as "to -- too -- two".

Back to the topic at hand - what the fuck is he doing in that clip?! Do we think that's part of the script or was he just messing about? I'm not familiar with this particular character. Is he supposed to be goofy?

Shazam must be from the Middle East.

They just did a very nice piece on him in the NYTimes. He comes across as very sweet--a grown-up comics nerd who is as surprised as anyone else that he's become hunky.

His character Shazam (who was originally called Captain Marvel, but had to change of name because of complicated copyright questions with Marvel Comics which laid claim to the name) was the biggest comic book hero of the 1940s during the Golden Age of comics.

He had the same costume and the ink-black hair back in his heyday, so they are doing homage by retaining that. Complaining abut them, to my mind, shows not only that you're ignorant but it's sort of beside the point: if you can buy that a little boy can turn himself into a super-powered adult just by saying the word "Shazam!", you can buy the suit and the emblem and the dark back hair. (It's like those idiots who took away Superman's red trunks--what, you can buy that he would wear a stupid cape that would constantly get in his way, but for some reason you don't like the red trunks???)

Judging from his appearance on MMM, he's definitely off the roids and back to his natural semi-schlub state.
