There does seem to be a trend of them all being not very good looking guys who were most likely nerdy, bullied losers growing up. Not one of the famous accused so far has been hot or even good looking. I really hate to say this but when a hot guy does the things most of these guys are accused of doing, people don't seem to care so much. Sad commentary on human society and our priorities in life. Beauty rules everything.

This complaint sounds very dubious to me. There have been no rumours about Rush; in fact he is very well-liked and respected by peers, and everyone who has worked with him says good things. I was taken aback that the STC wouldn’t tell him what the complaint was (and nowhere does the story claim sexual harassment - “inappropriate behaviour” could mean anything at this point), but told the media. Could he have sexually harassed someone just once in his life? It’s possible, but given his history, highly improbable.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 2, 2017 5:14 AM |
The theatrical bitches in Administration at the The Sydney Theatre Company have "not disclosed details of the allegation."
They said "the complainant asked that the allegation be dealt with confidentially and did not want Rush notified or involved in any investigation."
In other words, they're having a secret court to condemn the man.

Trump is President because for the last thirty-five years the USA has been totally devoted to the concept that making money is all that matters and those who make lots of money are allowed to do anything they please with impunity.
Call it the de-Christianization of American culture. We live in reptilian society where rapacious greed prevails.

[quote]Is there something about being around copious amounts of money that turns people into sex addicts or something?
No, just like rape is usually not about sex, but power, I think there is something much more complex at play.
Back when Elliot Spitzer was caught and Jack Welch fell from his pedestal after having an affair, there were a raft of articles about why powerful men have affairs. Money, power, and no one saying ever saying "no" to you in your working life begins to bleed into other aspects of your life.
I can't do the multiple articles justice, but it's worth reading a few.
Also, some people are just pigs. Not all of the people accused are the same.

I was the poster from Oz who mentioned he was next R26.
R16 - like you, I found it hard to believe. Have friends - mostly guys - in Oz theatrical circles. And they all thought he was great. Never a bad word about him.
But then a close friend - a woman - confided that she’d heard a lot of first hand nasty stories about him from female friends in the biz over the years.
Tracey Spicer and another journalist here put out calls to talk to victims of predators in the Oz entertainment industry on social media. They didn’t name names though. And they were inundated with contacts - but a huge proportion of them were about Don Burke. His TV star personality had waned many years since, but there were so many accusers that the sheer weight of ‘em all broke the story in the media here.
Gather Rush is harder. He has dough from constantly getting film work. Is lawyered up - big-time! And if you’re in the industry here - theatre especially - and come forward - then chances are you won’t work again.
The two journos are working behind the scenes to methodically put together a verified, coherent story. But unfortunately with Rush - they got pipped to the post by one of the tabloids. Still think their story will come out up the track - will depend how many people they can convince to speak up openly about him.
Dont know who the other guy is they were targeting. My friend thought it was a younger Oz actor who has had quite a good career here and internationally - and who has thus far flown under the radar. But when she asked about him - she’d heard quite a few allegations! - apparently he wasn’t the guy who was being looked at by the journalists.
Upshot is: there’s plenty more dirt to come. Watch this space.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 19, 2018 7:12 AM |
This Princess of Snowflakes in Geoffrey Rush's 'King Lear' gave an interview in December 2015 exposing her naivety.
“In a world surrounded by men who are cruel and self-indulgent, [Cordelia] somehow manages to be the youngest with this bizarre breadth of perspective. She’s a better person than I am — I struggle with her.”
[Cordelia's] sense of exile, of being separated from one’s home, is a theme which resonates with the current political climate around the world, and especially in Australia. “It’s so frustrating what is going on in the world today with the amount of people displaced, asking “what is home?... when we think of these people and how they find strength. I hope that in telling this story we reach to their depths.”
“Geoffrey is just forever playful. He’s so generous, he’s very cheeky which is perfect for me. I feel very privileged to work with him and proud to be his ‘favourite daughter’.

[quote]Actress Yael Stone alleged actor Geoffrey Rush subjected her to unwanted sexual advances and even attempted to look at her naked body while she was showering. Stone told The New York Times that she had looked up to Rush, a revered actor in Australia, and was elated when she was cast opposite him in a play called The Diary of a Madman in 2010 and 2011. Geoffrey Rush defamation case: actor to be awarded millions after win against News Corp's Daily Telegraph – live
Justice Michael Wigney hands down his verdict after actor sued Sydney’s Daily Telegraph over allegations of sexual harassment.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 11, 2019 5:19 AM |
Summary
It’s a big win for Geoffrey Rush.
The judge ruled that all but two of his claimed imputations were indeed conveyed by the Daily Telegraph’s article. The Telegraph’s entire truth defence was then rejected. Rush was awarded $850,000, with that figure to rise by millions.
The main findings:
The Daily Telegraph’s articles conveyed the impression that Rush was “a pervert”, “a sexual predator” and “committed sexual assault in a theatre” during the King Lear production.
The Telegraph’s attempt to prove this was true was rejected.
The evidence of the complainant, Eryn Jean Norvill, was “not only uncorroborated but contradicted” by the director, Neil Armfield, and castmembers Robyn Nevin and Helen Buday.
The evidence of castmember Mark Leonard Winter, who corroborated Norvill’s account, was judged not credible.
Norvill was “prone to exaggeration and embellishment,” according to Wigney.
Rush was awarded aggravated damages, because of the poor conduct of the Daily Telegraph.
Wigney said it was “a recklessly irresponsible piece of sensational journalism of the worst kind”.
Rush was given $850,000 just for the damage to his reputation.
This figure could rise by millions, because Rush was also awarded compensation for lost earnings due to the article

How can a woman function in a modern communications industry if she can't even voice her concerns with her fellow workers at the appropriate time?
I realise that Cordelia (and Ophelia) are fairly backward, helplessly precious characters but a modern woman should be able to communicate such things.
She could have approached the media and worked out some kind of conciliation/resolution with Rush in the first week rather than let it drag out over more than a year. (She's reminding me of Jussie Smollett)
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 11, 2019 6:18 AM |
R77 Eryn Jean Norvill never spoke to the media. They got the story from an employee of the Sydney Theatre Company - probably someone with an ax to grind. She was forced by the court to give her account of her compliant. Eryn Jean Norvill is most definitely the victim here on a number of fronts. She is a victim of Rush's behaviour, of someone within the Sydney Theatre Company contacting the media, and the media for reporting a story that the victim did not want to be made public.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 11, 2019 6:27 AM |
So where is Rush's rep now then? Is he a Spacey still however in Hollywood and elsewhere and too on the nose to be hired? Or, will he confine himself to theatre and have the luvvies rally round him? Will he still appeal to audiences?
** I heard his (distinctive) voiceover the other night on a new movie trailer release actually (not anything in which he was cast), which made me wonder if that's how his bread has recently been buttered and will continue to do so as still legitimately lucrative in it's way.
**Haven't checked his recent IMDB...

R78 Eryn Jean Norvill never spoke to anyone, that's the trouble.
Now Rush may have been socially-inappropriate but Norvill is definitely socially-inadequate.
A conciliation could have been made out of court but passive Norvill faffed around for over a year. And so she is (indirectly) responsible for Rush's loss of wages over that year.
Millions of dollars of expensive lawyers were brought into action over that year due to her social-inadequacy.
