This has-been can't pull the stick out of her ass for 10 seconds to issue a one-sentence statement about David Cassidy's death? WTF is up with her. Would it kill her to not be awful for a minute?

She was famously angry at him for doing a Kiss and Tell on her in his book(s). I read both and didn't see anything particularly offensive, certainly no sexual details. Still, she thought it was tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 22, 2017 10:56 PM |
Susan hasn't spoken to him in years. He spoke about their awkward sex act in his book, which was not consummated due to David thinking of Susan as his sister, not a fuck partner.

I always found it odd that he released a paperback autobiography called "Come On, Get Happy", I think -- and then, years later, a new hardback autobiography called "Could It Be Forever" came out with most of the same information, almost a re-release. I am re-reading "Could It Be Forever" in his honor this week. Glad I have it.

You know what, Eve? Susan was slaving away as a poor little anorexic teen model in her formative years pre-television...so she has a few issues to work out. Issues that can't be faced by churning out the revolting day glo flower paintings you do, and hawk on ebay. (Yeah, and that's Shelley Hack on the right. Did you ever work with one of Charlie's Angels? Yeah, thought not.) GO BACK IN YOUR F-ING HOLE, JAN!

Actually, I think (most of) the Brady Bunch were much tighter than the Partridge Family cast. They had a longer and somewhat less fractious run together, and regrouped several times for get-togethers and new series and TV movies.
I loved the Partridges and especially, their music, but the Bradys left a much larger cultural footprint.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 23, 2017 12:05 AM |
Susan is embarrassed she was ever on The Partridge Family. She wants to be remembered for her stellar work on LA Law, not a goofy kids show.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 23, 2017 12:05 AM |
Why should she be required to "comment?" They were never close friends. He was just somebody she worked with decades ago. I think after the Partridge Family gig was over she moved on and that was that. I don't think she was friendly with anybody on that show. Whenever there was a Partridge Family "reunion" she would never deign to participate. Which was her right. I don't see anything untoward about her not commenting on Cassidy's death.
She was indeed anorexic. One of the teen magazines listed her height and weight as 5'7 and 97 pounds. She commented in one at the teen rags that she was tired of people "harping about me being too thin." Danny Bonaduce, never one to mince words, saw her in a bikini during the Partridge Family days and said something to the effect of "you look awful!" She was all skin and bones.
I liked her turn as an abusive, very mentally disturbed young mother in a cheesy tv movie called "Mary Jane Harper Cried Last Night." Molested by her father, rejected and abused by her mother, Rowena Harper is not a good candidate for motherhood. The father of her child wants nothing to do with her or his daughter, so she's raising the child alone. Feeling isolated becoming more and more unstable and getting no help from anyone she takes her frustration out on her baby girl, burning her with cigarettes and breaking her bones. I thought this was pretty strong subject matter for a tv movie back then. Anyway, i thought she did very well as the doomed Rowena Harper. I think she was looking for meatier roles like that; in The Partridge Family she barely was called upon to do anything except be pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 23, 2017 12:11 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 23, 2017 12:17 AM |
Susan was a pretty teen model turned TV actress with lofty, praiseworthy artistic ambitions, but she never got the training/educational background to match those ambitions.
Given that, she's done pretty well. Most of the 60s and 70s actors in beloved, widely syndicated sitcoms wound up hugely screwed, unemployed, and in some cases, met sad, dire ends.
Always thought she was lovely.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 23, 2017 12:17 AM |

Susan had a huge crush on David the whole time they did the Partridge Family. He basically treated her like a little sister while screwing everything else that moved. Finally, they tried to have sex, and he couldn't complete the act because, as he told her, he thought of her as his sister, not as an attractive woman.
Then years later, he published a book telling the world all of this.
Would *you* tweet condolences? I think she'll be showing restraint if she doesn't dance on his grave.

I think Susan and her producer husband are done done done with Hollywood. Who can blame them? It's dog eat dog and they aren't getting any younger. They've made enough to retire very comfortably wherever they choose. Right now I believe it's upstate NY.
I don't blame her if she just wants to live the rest of her life out of the spotlight.

Long before he played my son on “The Partridge Family,” David Cassidy was my stepson in real life. As a little boy, his sweet sensitivity and wicked sense of humor were already on display, and I will treasure the years we spent working and growing together. I will also find solace knowing that David is now with his dad. Has Bonaduce commented? He seems to have fun with the PF legacy and to have gotten along with the cast. Dey didn’t comment when Suzanne Crough died so I’ll doubt we will hear from her on David.
She’s retired so of course she doesn’t have to say anything. But like the above poster said it’s just not another job. Anything that sticks in the cultural zeitgeist, the public will have affection for. Dey made her living for many years from tv and gave her a comfy life. I think in her case, it would be a nice thing to comment. PF were pretty big in the early 70s.
But she clearly has no fucks to give anymore.

A lot of you lack COMMON sense and social graces. SUSAN DEY WAS HIS CO-STAR ON AN ICONIC SHOW. Susan was also the only one to go on to mainstream success (L.A. Law) not to exclude Ms. Shirley Jones. Susan should have said something publicly *unless* more went on than what we knew. He blabbed anout their sex non-sex.....he's tacky but he is male (straight men are gross and stupid). Maybe she offered her condolences privately (I doubt it though). She doesnt need to be civil I suppose, she must be in her late 60s so unless theres an L.A. Law reunion......she's done with acting.

As R95 observes, Hollywood has a strict code of mores requiring one to post thoughts and prayers when a collegue has kicked the bucket. Not doing so is a terrible faux pas and grounds for reproach.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I must get back to auditioning actresses in my shower.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 23, 2017 1:37 PM |
R111 must be new or forgotten the old "zeitgeist" DL front page.
It should also be noted that the PF was "family" entertainment and not just a kid show. Back then wholesome stuff was for everyone, adults included. More shit you just do not know!
by Anonymous | reply 114 | November 23, 2017 1:38 PM |
R111, in his prime, David Cassidy was able to sell out Madison Square Garden. That counts for something.
And I have to say that he and Danny had great comic chemistry. I usually can’t stand precocious kid actors, but Danny Bonaduce played a memorable little wiseass.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 23, 2017 1:44 PM |
R114, whether it was a kid show or "family entertainment", the Partridge Family was just junk TV - lightweight fluff entertainment. I was alive and I remember it. It was one of those shows that no one took seriously. It isn't part of the "cultural zeitgeist", and in the name of all that is holy, it sure as hell isn't "iconic". I'm sure Cassidy was a nice fellow and all, but he hardly ranks as one of the great talents of our time. Let's keep a sense of proportion.

by Anonymous | reply 117 | November 23, 2017 2:11 PM |
Here's your answer regarding Susan Dey about David Cassidy:
During the production of The Partridge Family, Dey held romantic feelings for co-star David Cassidy. Dey and Cassidy eventually pursued a relationship after production on the show finished, but Cassidy broke it off as he didn’t reciprocate her feelings. In 1994, Cassidy disclosed details on their relationship in his autobiography, C'mon, Get Happy ... Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus. This caused Dey to cut off all contact with Cassidy.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | November 23, 2017 2:32 PM |
ABC-TV produced so many odd teen idols, from Cassidy to Jonathan Frid of Dark Shadows. They were all so1960's-1970's centric. Later I'd even add Tony Geary as Luke on General Hospital.

by Anonymous | reply 121 | November 23, 2017 3:54 PM |
If you think about it, it passes strange that some people have come to believe that actors have a sort of duty to make public pronouncements when other actors die. Where did this even come from? It certainly was never required under traditional rules of etiquette. How many of you make public statements when your former colleagues die?
by Anonymous | reply 122 | November 23, 2017 4:36 PM |
Susan is really fat now. She thinks "I wish I was only "Rebel Wilson fat"."
by Anonymous | reply 123 | November 23, 2017 4:48 PM |
R122 the line gets blurred between fiction and non fiction. People like to think they were the Partridges off screen. Of course they weren’t. Dey doesn’t have to anything. She’s out of the business.
BUT the PF started her acting career and she had a pretty good run on tv. As an acknowledgement and a thank you to fans, it would take her about five minutes of effort to prepare a statement and call a media outlet to report it. Not too much to ask for the riches and career that TV gave her.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | November 23, 2017 4:58 PM |
R124 Agreed. Whether or not they got along off-camera, he was her colleague in a show that was a pop culture phenomenon and that gave them both fame and fortune. It wouldn't kill her to issue a few words about his death.

by Anonymous | reply 127 | November 23, 2017 5:54 PM |
I’m sorry, but I just can’t grasp people paying attention to this, much less being bothered by it. People are actually keeping tally-boards of who issues public statements of grief? To what conceivable end? I don’t know anything about Dey, but let’s be honest. Cassidy was just a washed-up entertainer, and a bankrupt and alcoholic to boot. He was nobody’s role model. The two acted together almost half a century ago. No, issuing a statement wouldn’t kill her, but getting upset because she didn’t is just looney. It’s not her job to make ritualized "thoughts and prayers", or provide validation for people’s childhood crushes.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | November 23, 2017 7:07 PM |
R128 agreed people shouldn’t get looney about it. It’s too bad Cassidy couldn’t deliver on his early promise. We’re not talking Sinatra here, but I believe he was talented he just couldn’t overcome Keith Partridge. Dey probably still holds a grudge over him talking private stuff about her. When Shirley dies guess she will be silent too.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 23, 2017 7:16 PM |
There are trolls on this thread pretending to be incensed because Susan Dey has not (as far as I know) issued any public statement on the death of David Cassidy. They're just dumb troll trying to get rise out of people. They don't give a shit about David Cassidy.

At this point the only way she can dig herself out of this totally avoidable hole is to host a tribute to Cassidy on VH1 or present a posthumous tribute to him at the Grammys. Word in Hollywood is that she is planning to do just that.

R255 I would advise thus:
Suze is perfectly positioned to salvage her own image, honor her brother, reunite the wounded partridges (fan base) and raise money for a charity with a high end, 1-night-only concert (to be televised as pay-per-view)
My first thought was a 1-woman show in which she portrayed all the Partridge Family band members. But this could be very taxing, so I see her teaming with Danny Bonaduce for A PAIR OF PARTRIDGES IN A PEAR TREE: A MUSICAL HEALING. They will portray all the characters on the show and perform the complete songbook, incorporated into some sort of dramatic framing device.

No one cared to correct my National Morning/Mourning atrocity R257 in 24 hrs.? Are all the "Dear Me" Queers stuffed with Turkey or Big Dicks? or nervous Dildos?
by Anonymous | reply 260 | November 26, 2017 12:56 PM |
R260 We would have to look at the code in the metadata, but it appears Susan Dey blocked all the replies correcting you, so typos would make our posts appear foolish, and easily dismissed.
She. Is. a. MONSTER!

Why the fuck should she have said something? This lady I used to work with died. We hadn't spoken in 10 years. Think I cared that she died? Nope. She was part of my history, but not my present.

by Anonymous | reply 285 | August 5, 2018 3:52 AM |
Susan has no gift for comedy. In her tragic silence she has willfully destroyed both the Partridge Family and the DataLounge family,

Moment of Silence....

And she beat her little daughter in that TV movie...

by Anonymous | reply 296 | August 5, 2018 4:36 AM |
I remember she always came off as angry in ‘Love and War’. But the problem with that show had everything to do with the lousy writing.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | August 5, 2018 4:41 AM |
After the atrocious way she ignored David' Partridge's death, she knows better than to show her face in public.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | August 5, 2018 4:46 AM |
Love her! Fuck David Cassidy. He was gross.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | August 5, 2018 4:54 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 302 | August 5, 2018 4:55 AM |
IIRC, wasn't it Diane English who got mad when Susan refused to answer English's questions about D.C. ? I thought that was what started their trouble working together.

Who gives a shit, you sick, stuck in the past freaks? She's 65. One can assume people important to her have died and she has suffered some losses, but now miles and years removed from her past working actress life you want her to open up a Twitter account and make publicslly known her condolences for a fucked up mess of a costar from 40+ years ago whose one claim to fame was playing a teenage asshole and whose other claim to fame was having no other claim to fame except maybe some substance abuse.
The woman was under no obligation to keep the candle burning on the cheesy sad memories of you miserable fucks with only a straw sticking up through your coffin in the earth else you'd have no living connection to the present.

by Anonymous | reply 334 | January 27, 2020 11:08 PM |
David was gay. I saw him on a talk show going on and on about how dey sexually harassed him. Threw herself at him. Dey had a crush on him and he was pig to talk about her. he also complained about all the girls at his concerts wanting sex. His dad was gay too. Shirley Jones likely gay too. Her husband after jack Cassidy seemed gay too. He was so clearly gay. It seems like every gay in Holly wood has gay child.
