Leo is many things but he's not lonely. Tom Hanks was lonely in Cast Away. Leo lives with several people, always has hoards around him, has an active social life, and his mother lives across the street. Loyal friends from Akiva, Lukas, Connelly, Tobey, Vinny Laresca ... then all the women around him .... he doesn't lack for anything that would "allow" for loneliness.

What he is is an underdeveloped human with little to no real life experience since he blasted into fame and superstardom. The kid going to the movies in LOS Feliz with his dad stepping over druggies in the neighborhood ... that kid is gone.

Unless Im wrong and its all a facade. I remember watching Vanilla Ice in Behind The Music and he said he had a huge party at his house on the lake, all his friends there, drinks flowing, laughs, gorgeous women, family members, and millions of dollars and he said "At that point I was the loneliest I had ever been in my life."

Leo is fat, still regarded by most as beautiful, celebrated for usually mediocre acting, celebrated for environmental activism, celebrated for allegedly using and tossing aside the world’s most beautiful women, insanely wealthy, can cast himself in any project he desires, and on and on. He has literally everything anyone could covet. I believe he could be lonely. Having everything seems like a lonely, dreary existence to me. If I were designing a life to live, I wouldn’t want to have all he has because what would be the point? If I did have it all, I’d want to die young because it seems like his life would get boring and uninspiring really fast, and that’s a recipe for creating a twisted narcissist.

I feel bad for Leo, if this is really true.

But the fact remains that it's probably a million times better to be lonely and have TONS of money and powerful, rich, and famous friends, than it is to be lonely, poor, homeless, and with no friends or family.

And there are tons of people in the latter position. So a little perspective on his part would be nice.

If he really said that maybe, at least at the time, he knew that none of the people who were always around were really his friends. Just hangers on. A person who has nothing but hangers on can end up pathetically lonely.
