Wasn't there a big fuss about the making of the film? Who was to blame?

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2017 5:09 AM

From IMDB: 'Bette Midler and co-star Ken Wahl made no secret of their open hatred of one another, battling constantly throughout filming. Wahl described to the press how much he disliked kissing Midler.' / 'Director Don Siegel had so many clashes, arguments and fights with Bette Midler on this film that after it was finished, he was quoted as saying, "I'd let my wife, children and animals starve before I'd subject myself to something like that again".'

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2017 5:11 AM

R2 Simply put Midler is a major Diva/Cunt

by Anonymousreply 4September 10, 2017 5:12 AM

And she's ugly too

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2017 5:16 AM

Ken Wahl on having to kiss Bette:

[quote]The only way I could force myself into kissing (Bette) Midler oncamera was to pretend that I was kissing my dog

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2017 6:17 AM

Ken Wahl is a huge asshole and was awful to Bette, calling her all kinds of names and treating her abominably. Bette, in turn became depressed, insecure and extremely unhappy. It was, by all reports, a complete nightmare.

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2017 6:39 AM

Why did Midler start singing in bathouses? Why not just regular night clubs?

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2017 10:16 AM

Never seen it, googled the trailer. Looks dreadful... It seems that some peoples careers can recover from just about anything.

R9 it’s actually a great campy 80s film. Shot in soft focus and other techniques like a 70s horror. I bought the VHS out of a bargain bin when I was little, much I’m sure to parents chagrin after I’d been declined the CD purchase of ‘Bathhouse Bette’ when I developed a Bette Midler obsession after The First Wives Club. I used to watch it all the time and developed a crush on Ken Wahl, even with that horrible unibrow.

Bette seems to have issues with most of her costars. She’s the common denominator.

by Anonymousreply 11February 24, 2020 1:50 PM

It’s hilarious to watch the camera switch from a clear shot then to a closeup of Bette and it’s been slathered in Vaseline.

by Anonymousreply 12February 24, 2020 2:07 PM

This opened in second-run movie theatres.

by Anonymousreply 13February 24, 2020 2:19 PM

She should have got her boobs out, I know a lot of men who were expecting to get a good view and something to beat off to. This gave her the reputation of being a cock tease.

by Anonymousreply 14February 24, 2020 3:08 PM

Bette is constantly and incredibly insecure.

by Anonymousreply 15February 24, 2020 3:12 PM

R13 like those old .75c/$1.00 movie theaters... meaning it was a bomb before it even opened?

by Anonymousreply 16February 24, 2020 3:14 PM

Director Don Siegel suffered a heart attack during filming. Bette must of really been a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 17February 24, 2020 3:15 PM

It’s actually a really good black comedy, not as funny but campy as hell like ‘Throw Momma...’

by Anonymousreply 18February 24, 2020 3:16 PM

The writer of the novel source material had his name removed from the film.

by Anonymousreply 19February 24, 2020 3:18 PM

Although the savage disputes between director Don Siegel and star Bette Midler on this film were widely reported, Siegel curiously made no mention of them in his autobiography, although he devotes a chapter to the making of the movie. His far milder disagreements with Walter Matthau on "Charley Varrick" and Susan Clark on "Coogan's Bluff" did get detailed mention.

R16 R17 R18 R19 R20 R21 all the same poster?!

by Anonymousreply 23February 24, 2020 3:27 PM

You can watch it for free on the PlutoTV app. Otherwise it’s VHS or DVD, it’s not even available on Amazon or Apple.

by Anonymousreply 24February 24, 2020 3:29 PM

R23 is one of those psychotic hall monitors we all hate. In what way is it effecting you, Cunt? How pathetic are you then? Hanging out in a thread about some tacky 80s bomb film trying to play persecutor? Fuck off and die!

by Anonymousreply 25February 24, 2020 3:31 PM

R24 I must have you blocked, maybe it was an accident, your posts seem reasonable.

by Anonymousreply 26February 24, 2020 3:31 PM

R26 see R25 am I reasonable now?

by Anonymousreply 27February 24, 2020 3:34 PM

R27

by Anonymousreply 28February 24, 2020 4:03 PM

R25 what did you say? Something lovely?

by Anonymousreply 29February 24, 2020 4:04 PM

Lol I'm not a hall monitor at all, I was perplexed why I couldn't see all your posts. I typed them out so I could see them. I don't care if you are one person posting, your info was interesting.

by Anonymousreply 30February 24, 2020 4:05 PM

R30 sorry just get on the defensive immediately on Datalounge because they’re are so many harpy loons who think they control the place.

by Anonymousreply 31February 24, 2020 4:19 PM

Bette may have been a diva, but Ken was a drunken coke fiend.

by Anonymousreply 32February 24, 2020 4:41 PM

R31 I found you on my blocked list, I must have hit ignore by mistake, I think you are a pretty witty poster!

by Anonymousreply 33February 24, 2020 4:42 PM

The scene in Beaches when CeCe is filming a movie and winds up punching her director was said to be loosely based on Bette’s notoriously troubled experience on Jinx’d. It was the character’s career low point, just as Jinxed was for Bette. As far as comebacks go, Bette’s was pretty epic once she started working for Disney/Touchstone Pics.

by Anonymousreply 34February 24, 2020 4:46 PM

Bette should never have said no to Sister Act or Misery

by Anonymousreply 35February 24, 2020 4:52 PM

I wonder what Ms. Midler would do if you brought up this movie to her.

by Anonymousreply 36February 24, 2020 4:53 PM

She react even worse than when that reporter asked Faye about throwing piss at Polanski!

by Anonymousreply 37February 24, 2020 4:57 PM

R36 viscous slapping

by Anonymousreply 38April 25, 2020 9:59 PM

I like Ken's unibrow-- it suits him. Strange that he has no chest hair, though. Italian men are usually hairier.
