Sorry OP, I fail to see what's so sad about this.

by Anonymousreply 1August 15, 2017 8:48 PM

They look like wax sculptures.

Caroline is OK, it's Albert who is the creepiest. But I cannot believe they are all spawn of Her Serene Highness Grace.

by Anonymousreply 2August 15, 2017 8:51 PM

Op everyone gets old and decrepit

by Anonymousreply 3August 15, 2017 9:12 PM

Yes OP it so sad when the rich and beautiful, who have led extraordinary lives and had everything they ever wanted handed to them, get old and wrinkled.

by Anonymousreply 4August 15, 2017 9:58 PM

Here she is in July 2016.

by Anonymousreply 5August 15, 2017 9:59 PM

I debated whether to post this, and the responses here reinforce that hesitation. She's 60 and looks 80. She was such a beauty and the definition of "all that" back in the day.

She's had a hard life, rich or not. This wasn't designed to throw shade at her by any means. Just an observation for the elders here

by Anonymousreply 6August 15, 2017 10:12 PM

Lifelong smoker?

by Anonymousreply 7August 15, 2017 10:14 PM

Sun and cigarettes on the Riviera.

by Anonymousreply 8August 15, 2017 10:15 PM

I've seen working-class women with zero resources look better at that age. What's her excuse?

by Anonymousreply 9August 15, 2017 10:16 PM

Too much sun. Too many cigarettes. Too much booze. Too many personal tragedies. Her children and siblings are Eurotrash at its worst. It all takes it's toll.

by Anonymousreply 10August 16, 2017 2:28 AM

[quote] I cannot believe they are all spawn of Her Serene Highness Grace.

Grace died before she had a chance to get very old.

by Anonymousreply 11August 16, 2017 2:34 AM

The Daily Mail is playing their usual mean (but funny) game of saying someone looks "radiant" and then showing the worst photos of her imaginable. Those are both absolutely terrible photos of Caroline.

by Anonymousreply 12August 16, 2017 2:37 AM

I agree with OP. She looks much older than her age. And it's not like she has been cleaning other people's homes for living.

by Anonymousreply 13August 16, 2017 2:47 AM

[quote] And it's not like she has been cleaning other people's homes for living.

The Hapsburgs have me cleaning their homes!

by Anonymousreply 14August 16, 2017 2:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 15August 16, 2017 3:01 AM

Those good-for-nothings William and Kate, with the cushiest lifestyle imaginable, will age even worse. William already looks a solid 10 years older.

What's up with Christina On Assistance?

by Anonymousreply 18August 16, 2017 4:54 AM

Ever since the death of her second husband (1990), Stefano Casiraghi, it appears she never fully recovered from its emotional trauma. Though they were married for 8 years before his untimely death, together they had 3 children together during that short period of time.

Couple this with her divorce from her first marriage, which was annulled after only two years (1980); her mother's untimely, sudden death due to a tragic accident (1982); and then the accidental death of her second husband. Subsequently, she'd suffered Alopecia as a result of the emotional trauma related to all of it. Tragic.

Both Stephanie and Caroline were always hard-looking, with masculine features. That jawline at R19 wouldn't look out of place on a trannie.

R19, you should also include her last marriage to Ernst of Hanover. They may still be married, but are not together as a couple. He is the definition of euro-trash.

Princess Grace died when she was 52. Next to Princess Diana, Grace's funeral was the saddest ever. Caroline was overcome with emotion. Rainer was stunned. Stephanie wax still in the hospital with a cracked vertebrae she suffered in the car accident with her mother.

by Anonymousreply 32August 16, 2017 9:14 AM

Grace's children really made a mess of their lives... Albert, Caroline, Stephanie... a trail of jet-setting, failed relationships, failed marriages, out-of-wedlock children and on and on.

I don't if it was Grace's early death, which left the children to their own young and immature decision-making or something else, but man they were/are a mess.

I wonder what the future holds as their spawn begin to take their place among the lowly and lost royals of Europe.

by Anonymousreply 33August 16, 2017 10:23 AM

Good to see the additional photos where she looks fine. Can't imagine why she looks so awful in those DM pics.

by Anonymousreply 34August 16, 2017 10:56 AM

When Grace died, those kids were already teens, so that wasn't what screwed them up, assuming that they were screwed up. I just heard a story about 70,000 Syrian refugees in some desert camp, no doctors, etc. Puts things in perspective.

by Anonymousreply 35August 16, 2017 10:57 AM

I love that Ranier cut off Stephanie to only 1% of the fortune, but she's still a gazillionnaire, or something. He showed HER.

by Anonymousreply 36August 16, 2017 12:39 PM

Stephanie is said to be Albert II's favorite sister. No sooner than he gained the throne he bestowed the Order of St Charles on her, Monaco's highest order. Even if it's true that her father cut her inheritance, she probably gets a comfortable allowance from Albert. She has a beautiful villa in Monaco next to her sisters. She also had a big hit record in Europe in the 80s, she might have pocketed some decent money from that.

Yet she's a royal now, with an HRH by marriage. Even her brother, a reigning sovereign, only bears a princely HSH.

Her marriage to Ernst August has been dead for years, but she'll be damned if she's giving up her HRH.

by Anonymousreply 47August 16, 2017 3:47 PM

Otherwise Caroline would be outranked by the best HRH in the world, HRH Princess Camilla of the Two Sicilies.

by Anonymousreply 49August 16, 2017 5:11 PM

Caroline, I thought she lost her hair after stealing her best friend's husband? The stress of being a homewrecking whore is what made her hair fall out.

She only married Ernst so she could outrank her siblings. She's technically a ROYAL Highness, courtesy title or not, which is farther up the royal food chain than a Serene Highness.

by Anonymousreply 63August 16, 2017 7:08 PM

Why, R63?

by Anonymousreply 64August 16, 2017 7:22 PM

Luxembourg has the HRH only because one of the previous rulers married a prince of the royal House of Bourbon-Parma. They'd be merely GDH (Grand Ducal Highnesses) if the then Grand Duchess had married someone of lower rank.

by Anonymousreply 65August 16, 2017 7:27 PM

These people don't deserve HRH. Big Daddy married an American Movie Star to drum up business and glamour in his rinky dink town. Their kids ran amok. And the reigning supreme basically locked up his fiancé and took away her passports so she couldn't escape, and she was a reduced to a devastated puddle of tears throughout the whole ceremony. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 66August 16, 2017 7:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 67August 16, 2017 7:34 PM

They don't need that. They're independently very wealthy and have marketed the fuck, so to speak, out of that plot of land.

by Anonymousreply 73August 16, 2017 8:57 PM

Monaco exists because France permits it. After all, it's smaller than Central Park, with a pretend royalty.

by Anonymousreply 74August 16, 2017 9:00 PM

Monaco made its money because of Onassis after which it cut him loose.

by Anonymousreply 75August 16, 2017 9:16 PM

They're actually going to make Monaco slightly larger with a land reclamation project. They've done it in the past, this one is significant although smaller than originally proposed. I think it's going to be something like four hectares, which is a lot of of rubble to pour into the sea. Mixed use housing and a marina are going to be put there, and I think an artificial beach. Supposedly it will be state of the art green technology with no disruption to sea life.

by Anonymousreply 76August 16, 2017 9:24 PM

Stephanie was SUCH trash back in the day, it was a lot of fun. People magazine used to cover her every move.

by Anonymousreply 86August 17, 2017 1:30 AM

I don't know why so many of them have babies out of wedlock. No wonder the other royal and princely Houses don't respect them. It seems so trashy. Let's see: Prince Rainier's grandmother, Princess Antoinette, Princess Stephanie, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Andrea Casiraghi (married the mother right after) all had children out of wedlock.

by Anonymousreply 93August 17, 2017 8:31 PM

I remember back in the day the comparisons to the Rainiers and the Windsor. The Windsors were considered elite, dignified, and untouchable. Polar opposites of the Rainiers after Caroline's first divorce from Eurotrash. Very little was known about the Windsors and even the tabs didn't go there other than to talk about who Charles would marry. Then Diana and Sarah happened for better or worse.

by Anonymousreply 94August 17, 2017 9:08 PM

She's positively dewy compared to the leathery crone that Princess Stephanie was doomed to become.

by Anonymousreply 95August 17, 2017 9:27 PM

What a total Stephanie disaster has been. One can only imagine her being a nasty impossible spoiled brat and having a terrible argument with her mother on those treacherous winding roads causing one of them(nobody is quite sure who was driving) to lose control and pitching them off the road.

by Anonymousreply 96August 17, 2017 10:21 PM

Ever see video of Princess Grace's funeral procession and the funeral mass? Prince Rainier and Princess Caroline were absolutely destroyed, it's brutal to watch such sorrow. Prince Albert held himself together and was stoic, as a prince should be at a somber event.

by Anonymousreply 97August 17, 2017 10:25 PM

Caroline really has been through a lot of brutal tragedy and to have to go through it in front of the entire world is unimaginable.

by Anonymousreply 98August 17, 2017 10:29 PM

So, I looked at the link from OP. Caroline looks to me like this was a fairly casual evening. Clothes, certainly. Comfy sandals - yes.

No makeup. Yep. Not great jewelry.

So, that is what 60 looks like. I'd much rather that than the polished, pulled, spiffed, artificial looks we see in so many others.

by Anonymousreply 99August 17, 2017 10:45 PM

Caroline can really turn it up when she needs to. In the early days of her marriage Ernst August took her to some of the European royal gatherings, she looked great in her grandmother's tiara and the Hanover tiara.

by Anonymousreply 100August 17, 2017 11:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 102August 19, 2017 12:54 AM

The husband that died left a very handsome corpse. I think it was a boating accident.

by Anonymousreply 103August 19, 2017 1:53 AM

Caroline is a homewrecker...

by Anonymousreply 104August 19, 2017 1:55 AM

R85 why? Because she was white and blonde?

by Anonymousreply 105August 19, 2017 2:58 AM

Grace did't age well at all either. She got fat and matronly fast.

by Anonymousreply 106August 19, 2017 3:24 AM

R94, you mean Grimaldi. That is both their family name and the name of their House.

The Grimaldi are a princely family, as opposed to a royal family, which explains why they are styled HSH and not HRH.

That the Grimaldi had children out of wedlock is no surprise. Prince Rainier's mother Princess Charlotte was the illegitimate child of Prince Louis and a "cabaret singer" / Montmartre nightclub hostess, Marie Juliette Louvet, daughter of the Prince's laundress, and whose first husband was a French "girlie" photographer.

by Anonymousreply 107August 19, 2017 7:11 AM

Monaco might be tiny but it used to be bigger. They lost something like 90% of their land mass in the 19th century. The surrounding French region, which can in some case is just the next street over, was all part of Monaco at one time. Prince Rainier, with the help of Onassis, did a lot to make the tiny principality into a haven for wealth. I don't see the land reclamation projects ending either, when the big project is finished I'm sure they'll think of another one- maybe with backing from Gulf princes. The ruling Grimaldi princes are forward thinking in terms of the economics of their country, you have to give them that.

by Anonymousreply 108August 19, 2017 5:18 PM

Monaco used to stretch further east to Roquebrune (Roccabruna) and Menton (Mentone) and at one time was surrounded by the Republic of Genoa. The Grimaldi were a Genoese family who fought with rival clans for control of Genoa, but were eventually expelled and sought refuge in Monaco.

Centuries later, Roquebrune and Menton, tired of the heavy tax placed by the Grimaldi, broke away and joined the Savoyard County of Nice (Nizza), which had expanded its borders roughly corresponding to the present-day Alpes-Maritime department. Both Nice and Monaco were placed under the protection of the Kingdom of Sardinia, until French annexation of Savoy and Nice in 1860.

by Anonymousreply 110August 19, 2017 11:10 PM

I wonder what the future holds for Monaco since it's attraction rests on its security for the wealthy. But it's in a very vulnerable spot for terrorism. Tiny little principality. Guess France would come to its defence.

by Anonymousreply 111August 20, 2017 3:27 AM

I found this map illustrating what used to be Monaco's borders, back when Roquebrune and Menton were part of the Principality in the 14th century. As mentioned earlier, Roquebrune and Menton broke away and joined the County of Nice, which was part of the Duchy of Savoy, around 1800. So for quite a long stretch of time, the Principality was much bigger than it is now.

Too much sun exposure over decades is worse than smoking in terms of aging your skin.

by Anonymousreply 113August 20, 2017 6:24 PM

R111 - Actually it's not as vulnerable as you might think. Monaco has cameras EVERYWHERE due to its wealthy residents and the casino traffic. I heard that if there's a robbery or another crime somewhere in the principality, the police can close the border roads off within minutes. Of course that didn't stop a very high profile murder happening there years ago but no country is perfect.

by Anonymousreply 114August 20, 2017 6:32 PM

Smoking, sun and drinking. That is why she looks the way she does. Her YOUNGER sister Stephanie looks MUCH worse.

by Anonymousreply 115August 20, 2017 6:33 PM

Ernst August is known for his alcoholism (Oktoberfest?????), when I think it was when Diana died they couldn't locate him until the next day because he had been off drunk. Can't remember if it was at this time, but it was an unexpected event and royal houses of Europe were expected to attend/publicly react, so it must have been Diana's death.

I heard years ago that Stephanie has BPD and that she was the one driving the car, not Grace, but no one wanted her blamed for the accident that killed her mother. They felt the situation was awful enough as it was and to let it go.

by Anonymousreply 120August 20, 2017 8:02 PM

There were several eyewitnesses before the crash who clearly saw that Grace was driving and Stephanie was in the passenger seat.

Why does EVERY fucking thing have to be a conspiracy?

by Anonymousreply 121August 20, 2017 8:05 PM

Back before the hysterical building boom in the hamptons, a bunch of foreigners bought houses in my development because the Riviera was felt to be dangerous. Lots of crime. But within a few years they sold, so I figured crime went way down.

by Anonymousreply 122August 20, 2017 8:10 PM

Of course they would say there were eyewitnesses, they're not stupid.

Stephanie is mentally ill and has been for years. She was living in a barn with a circus clown at one point.

Caroline and Phillipe Junot were briefly mesmerizing back in the day. Got SO much publicity, and radiated sexuality - they conveyed the impression they were doing it right in front of you, were just about to do it, or were going to go ahead and do it if you didn't leave. I remember reading an article that said she and Phillipe were always rubbing up on each other in the most intimate way and it infuriated Stephanie, who was very jealous. I don't know if Stephanie was meant to be jealous because she was too young (13) to be getting action herself, or she liked Phillipe. Caroline did have it all.

Tough things have happened to her, one of which is her own doing (Ernst of Hanover - pilfering him from a friend). But what happened to her face is no mystery. Constant sun, and nonstop smoking. She still smokes, and she still bakes in the sun. I remember a picture of her and Roberto Rossellini baking their faces in the sun while taking a break from skiing. Look at her. Her weight is fine, her movements are fine, hair is fine. It's "just" her skin. She's ruined her skin and hasn't bothered to get a facelift nor, apparently, any other kind of work, and there's nothing wrong with her. Most women her age, with money, do something. She didn't do anything. A lot of famous women would look like her if they didn't do anything either.

by Anonymousreply 125August 20, 2017 8:23 PM

Not a circus clown, a circus acrobat. Stephanie married him. She also had a relationship with an elephant tamer. She's a big circus freak and lived with the circus for months at a time back in the s and 00s.

R115 Her sister is another poster child for that.

Holy R115! That's the skin of a 70-year-old, my father at 75 looks younger than that!

by Anonymousreply 128August 20, 2017 8:34 PM

What a beauty Caroline was, as seen in R31´s pic! She belongs in the "Beautiful women of the 70's" thread. She had that natural, soft, slender, feminine, not plastic or masculine at all look. Too bad she aged horribly.

I am the same age as Stephanie and used to think she was all that in the 80s. Seeing her at her peak now, I see she wasn't as beautiful as Caroline. Very masculine looking.

by Anonymousreply 129August 20, 2017 8:52 PM

Caroline was always way more beautiful. Charlotte is a beauty.

by Anonymousreply 130August 20, 2017 9:14 PM

Charlotte is as gorgeous as her mother was in her youth, but she's starting to develop her aunt's masculine jaw

by Anonymousreply 131August 20, 2017 9:43 PM

Charlotte sure is a beauty.

When I was a kid we used to watch a lot of old reruns on independent tv stations. I would hear comedians say things like, "Who does she think she is, Princess Grace?" And "She's no Princess Grace!"

I asked my mother who Princess Grace was and she said she was a beautiful movie star who married a prince and that the media fell all over itself covering the "fairytale romance."

I eventually saw a photo of princess grace and thought she wasn't really any more attractive than your average tv sitcom mom. I said, "She's a nice looking lady but not a beautiful goddess." My mother said, "Oh, she's a drinker. It's said that she has her boyfriends and her husband has his boyfriends."

Grace got very frauey looking as she got older. But she carried herself well, I saw interviews late in her life and she added an almost unnoticeable European accent to her already affected Mid-Atlantic. It came across very lovely and she seemed proud of her tiny adopted country.

by Anonymousreply 135August 20, 2017 10:40 PM

Grace is an example of blondes not aging well.

by Anonymousreply 136August 20, 2017 10:45 PM

Yeah R134, but she was a very nice lady. And cool, too, under the poise.

by Anonymousreply 137August 20, 2017 10:48 PM

Charlotte is practically her mom's clone except for a very slightly stronger jaw. Let's see how it goes. R78 - I've heard the same about Monaco - I've never been. A friend of mine whose job description is basically "corporate wife" has been all over the world, and she says Monaco is like some kind of trashy mall. You do a double take and realize a lot of the jewelry is real, but the place has nothing to offer.

Grace's aging has nothing to do with being blonde. It's all about having a German jaw (she was German on her mother's side) and gaining some wait. Voila - matronly.

I have NEVER understood the supposed Catherine Deneuve truism that at a certain age a woman has to choose between her face and her ass. Really? Has anyone's face ever been improved by extra weight? Just bloats the jaw. You don't have to be the weight you were as puberty hit, but if you were fit at thirty, that's a good weight to keep throughout your life.

Man, Stephanie makes Caroline look dewy.

There's a local in my neighborhood. Very short. Short gray hair, under 5 feet tall, and her skin can only be described as sun cured. Smoker's voice - way back in the throat. Wrinkles galore, of course. Crevices. Leathery. Usually wears nondescript clothing - pants and a t shirt. I also think she's a little "off." I had her pegged as being in her late seventies.

So I'm walking my dog the other day and I see this woman who has set out a lounge chair outside her apartment building so she can get the sun. She's in a white two piece (not bikini) and a turban. Good body, believe it or not. I do a double take and realize it's the little troll who I thought was ancient. She's not as ancient as she comes across - her body isn't sagging everywhere. She's just baked, like Caroline. She's actually pretty fit.

True or not...the family developed an unsavory reputation.

I was surprised that the Court of St James gave Prince Pierre (father of Prince Rainier) a seat at Queen Elizabeth's coronation. He was a divorcee from Princess Charlotte (Rainier's mother) by that point for many years. Young Rainier would have been a more suitable choice.

by Anonymousreply 140August 20, 2017 11:54 PM

Rainier's father was a known gay...

I don't understand the situation with Albert and his wife. I've read how unhappy she is and about being "detained" at the airport as she was trying to flee before their marriage. How exactly was she "forced" to marry him? If she was at an airport certainly there would have been witnesses not to mention cell phones. Was there some reason she didn't just scream or make a big scene? TMZ would have paid top dollar for video of that! I agree that she looks like she's miserable but the whole story of her passport being taken away and not being able to leave the country sounds a bit far fetched. I mean, it's Prince Albert of Monaco for heavens sake; he's the definition of milquetoast. We're not talking about not Pablo Escobar.

by Anonymousreply 142August 21, 2017 2:06 AM

Per the link at R139: Grace's brother got caught with a trannie (named Finnocchio!) which derailed his political career.

"In 1975, Albert’s uncle - John B. Kelly Jr‘s bid for the mayorship of Philadelphia was derailed after a much publicized fling with a transsexual named Rachel Harlow (formerly Richard Finnocchio.)"

by Anonymousreply 143August 21, 2017 2:14 AM

I seem to know an awful lot of families where someone centuries ago put a curse on all their subsequent marriages. And I don't think any of them are royals.

by Anonymousreply 144August 21, 2017 2:35 AM

Rachel went on a speaking tour to promote her autobiography and she talked about Kelly. But never about his penis size.

by Anonymousreply 145August 21, 2017 2:35 AM

It took the Vatican a long time to annul Caroline's marriage to Junot. I don't know what the delay was, considering she was the daughter of a reigning sovereign from an extremely wealthy Catholic princely House. One would think the whole thing would have been handled via diplomatic channels.

A rare photo of Caroline attending one of the big European royal events, possibly one of the Scandinavian royal weddings. She wears the Order of St Charles, Monaco's premier order, and wears jewels belonging to her grandmother Princess Charlotte. The necklace can also be worn as a tiara.

Anybody who saw Stephanie driving the car would be dead.

If Ranier could fuck over Ari he could have Hitler trembling. The wealth and power in that tiny haven would eliminate every speck of humanity from every citizen.

by Anonymousreply 152August 21, 2017 3:04 AM

R131 Charlotte Casiraghi is a beauty but she has her grandmother's (Grace Kelly's) square jaw. Personally, I think the square jaw detracts from her beauty. She also has HORRIBLE posture. Still, she's mesmerizing to behold in some photos and has beautiful skin like her grandmother, Grace Kelly. (I've read interviews with Grace Kelly where she herself mentions her square jaw. I think it bothered her.)

by Anonymousreply 153August 21, 2017 3:16 AM

Can't she have her jaw shaved down? It seems that DL finds that it diminishes her beauty which being that everyone on here has faces of ideal symmetry and proportions we would be arbiters of what gives genuine beauty to a royal princess.

Or we could give her a gift certificate to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in The Magic Kingdom which will transform her into every little girl's and gayling's in training dream of what a princess really looks like.

How many DLers have experienced this life altering transformation when they've gone to Disneyworld and would they recommend it to their parish priest?

by Anonymousreply 154August 21, 2017 10:30 AM

Thanks for the picture at R46.

This may be off topic, but I hate pix from the early 80s where women are trying to "rock" the Brook Shields heavy brows.

Only Brooke can do that! The rest of you look like you don't own a pair of tweezers.

I may be old and haggard, but unlike my sister, at least my labia aren't leaving trail marks in the sand of our beautiful Monégasque beaches.

R49 Grace Kelly's genes were not Mainline genes, though the Kelly family aspired to that PR image.

by Anonymousreply 158January 12, 2018 1:40 AM

Always thought it strange that Albert and Stephanie sound American and Caroline has a more of a French accent.

by Anonymousreply 159January 12, 2018 2:00 AM

Albert spent a decent amount of time in Philadelphia and his summers at a boys camp in New Hampshire? (Called Tecumseh)

by Anonymousreply 160January 12, 2018 3:08 AM

R67 Sorry, I overlooked your post. Hopefully R49 got our message.

R67 And I meant no snark at you.

by Anonymousreply 162January 12, 2018 3:24 AM

It's Main Line btw

by Anonymousreply 163January 12, 2018 3:26 AM

It was fairly obvious when Caroline was young she would not age well. She always was very manish looking. For the longest time I thought she had to be a lesbian because she had such a butch look to her face, even when she was made up.

But for a 60 year old gal, she looks perfectly fine. I'm sure she looks far better than the OP's pic when she's had make up and hair done. She looks relatively sans fard there.

by Anonymousreply 164January 12, 2018 3:41 AM

Caroline was fucking a French actor in Provence when her second husband died in that accident. She started losing her hair shortly after. I think the actor's name was Vincent Lindon. Monaco is lots of fun, particularly in the summer. Yes, it is trashtastic, the cops are filming you and listening to you via listening devices all over the principality but hey, you can't have everything!

by Anonymousreply 165January 12, 2018 5:23 AM

You mean gay and in the closet? R71
