Fox in ‘Preliminary Conversations’ to Revive ‘King of the Hill’

From “The X-Files” to “24: Legacy” to “Prison Break,” Fox has been in the business of reviving beloved series of late. The next series to make that list may just be “King of the Hill.”

“We have had preliminary conversations with Greg [Daniels] and Mike [Judge],” Dana Walden, Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, says. “I would like to explore that. We had a very preliminary conversation about that. Given what’s going on in the country, I think they had a point of view about how those characters would respond.”

Walden adds that Fox has only had one meeting earlier this summer with Daniels and Judge about the idea thus far, but she “would like to revisit it.”

“It was really just a first, exploratory, ‘Are you excited about this?’ They were both excited about it but they’re both very busy individually so it’s about finding time,” Walden says.

“King of the Hill” originally ran on Fox from 1997 to 2009 featuring the voice talent of Judge, Pamela Adlon, Kathy Najimy, Brittany Murphy, Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, Toby Huss, Chuck Mangione, and Tom Petty. The show’s original run featured 259 episodes, achieved global syndication, and became one of the network’s longest running series to date. It also briefly held the record for the second longest running animated sitcom in history and won two Emmy awards.

I love Hank and company, and I am also a big fan of Beavis and Butthead. Perhaps with the retooling of MTV they will consider bringing B&B back.

by Anonymousreply 6August 9, 2017 4:11 AM

It's one of the best shows animated or otherwise. Mike Judge is a genius.

by Anonymousreply 7August 9, 2017 4:29 AM

[quote]I wish they'd revivive Beavis and Butthead--I loved that show.

They did in 2011. Then some frau took MTV over in 2012 and canned it. She was let go a year later.

I want Daria back! The producers want it to come back as well and the cast wants to come back as well.

Brittany Murphy did the voice of the daughter on "King of the Hill". She'll have to be replaced.

by Anonymousreply 8August 9, 2017 4:32 AM

Without Brittany, there is no Luanne Platter.

by Anonymousreply 9August 9, 2017 5:04 AM

So the hills would be trump voters right?

by Anonymousreply 10August 9, 2017 5:23 AM

I didn't even realize it was gone.

by Anonymousreply 11August 9, 2017 5:37 AM

Not necessarily R10. Hank was a standup guy (with Latino immigrant friends) and I can't see Peggy voting Trump.

I love this show. One of my all time faves.

by Anonymousreply 12August 9, 2017 5:39 AM

Sassy Bobby!

by Anonymousreply 14August 9, 2017 5:53 AM

[quote]Brittany Murphy did the voice of the daughter on "King of the Hill".

She wasn't the daughter; she was Peggy's niece.

by Anonymousreply 15August 9, 2017 6:31 AM

That boy ain't right.

by Anonymousreply 16August 9, 2017 6:31 AM

I think that Hank would be conservative on some issues(gun control for example) but e could be progressive on others. Peggy definitely skewed progressive.

by Anonymousreply 17August 9, 2017 7:19 AM

Dale was a libertarian f I ever saw one.

Boomhower would likely vote Republican.

by Anonymousreply 25August 10, 2017 12:58 AM

Peggy probably would have voted for Hilary, but Hank would have voted for Donald. Hank has coworkers who are Mexican, and Laotian neighbors, but he would definitely be of the opinion that people should come here legally. Hank's a stickler for rules.

by Anonymousreply 26August 10, 2017 1:15 AM

[quote] Only on DL would people care about the politics of a fucking cartoon character. LMFAO

This ain't The Flintstones, sweetheart. Run along.

by Anonymousreply 27August 10, 2017 1:19 AM

Why not r23?

I was a casual viewer but I'd love to hear your reasons.

I don't think anyone can do that sobbing and crying like Brittany Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 28August 10, 2017 1:36 AM

[quote]Hank would have voted for Donald.

I can see Hank voting for Gary Johnson.

MAGA wouldn't have gone over well with Hank because according to him, American was already great.

Then there's Trump's handshake (remember the episode when his opinion of George W. changed after shaking his hand?);

Trump is a New Yorker (even though Hank discovered he was born in NYC he still hated New York);

Trump was involved in "showbiz," which is a big turn off to Hank (see Bobby);

Trump eats his steak well done;

Hank doesn't believe in cheating or taking shortcuts so collusion and theatrics would absolutely not be okay (plenty of examples of this);

Hank is uncomfortable with any talk about sex, remember the episode where Peggy teaches sex-ed, he didn't even like her saying the word, 'vagina' so there's no way he would be accepting of someone talking about pussy; also along these same lines is Melania's "modeling" career & the way Trump has talked about Ivanka;

Trump's multiple draft deferments & insulting McCain and the Khan family wouldn't have been cool with him, Hank's narrow urethra is the only reason he didn't serve in the military;

Hank is a family man while Trump has multiple marriages, is a philanderer and has talked about his lack of "hands on parenting"

I could go on and on.

by Anonymousreply 29August 10, 2017 1:37 AM

My God, is EVERYTHING a fucking "revival" or "reboot" or "remake" these days? This is getting so pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 30August 10, 2017 1:40 AM

They shouldn't bring it back until the find a cure for a narrow urethra.

by Anonymousreply 31August 10, 2017 5:13 AM

I too think Hank would disapprove of grabbing women by the pussy.

I thought Dale wasn't registered to vote because he didn't want the government to know his whereabouts? Something like that.

by Anonymousreply 32August 10, 2017 6:06 AM

Dale was probably registered to vote under his alias "Rusty Shackleford".

by Anonymousreply 33August 10, 2017 7:05 AM

R29 I do believe you've convinced me.

by Anonymousreply 34August 10, 2017 7:10 AM

So WHET the reboot of KOTH?

by Anonymousreply 39March 17, 2019 7:24 PM

That Adlon gal has smoke too many cartons of cigs to revive the voice of Bobby

by Anonymousreply 40March 17, 2019 7:30 PM

I think I read that they want everyone to be 10 years older, so Bobby would be a young adult in college and might require a new voice, anyway.

Joseph would be so hot by now.

by Anonymousreply 41March 17, 2019 7:35 PM

Even at 23, a voice like Bacall or turner wouldn’t cut it

by Anonymousreply 42March 17, 2019 7:38 PM

I detested "Beavis and Butthead." The two jolly retards would torture animals. On one occasion they fed hot sauce to a dog; on another they put a dog in a washing machine. NOT funny. I liked "King of the HIll" but it shouldn't be revived. It ran its course and that should be the end of that. This whole business of rebooting practically everything is really tedious.

by Anonymousreply 43March 17, 2019 7:40 PM

KOT didn’t run its course. It was still going strong. Never jumped the shark.

[QUOTE]That article is a year old.

Did you read it? It explains why it might take some time, which is why I posted it. But at least the players are open to it. And now that the property is owned by Disney (I think?), that adds another wrinkle.

by Anonymousreply 54March 17, 2019 10:32 PM

Peggy was voiced by the brilliant Kathy Najimy. The Peggy centered episodes were usually the best.

by Anonymousreply 55March 17, 2019 10:32 PM

Let’s be honest:

Have would have reluctantly voted Trump and then immediately regretted it and dropped his support by now

Bill would have been swept up into the madness and voted Trump because a sad mess of a fool

Dale would have secretly voted for Bernie under the alias mentioned above of Rusty Shackleford

Khan would have secretly voted Trump while claiming publicly to be ‘with her’

Peg & Minh definitely went Hillary

Bobby & Connie volunteered for Hillary, but Bobby has future Bernie Bro written all over him

Nancy is a Trump Frau and future (fill in the blank) Becky gone viral

Boomhauer, as always, is a total wild card!

by Anonymousreply 56March 17, 2019 10:35 PM

Crazy-ass LuAnne would have to be replaced, she was voiced by the now deceased Brittany Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 57March 17, 2019 10:36 PM

Have = Hank

by Anonymousreply 58March 17, 2019 10:37 PM

I liked this show, but I might skip it on principle. I'm so sick of the reboots and remakes. GET SOME NEW IDEAS.

by Anonymousreply 59March 17, 2019 10:44 PM

If the characters are 10 years older then it won’t be a reboot or a remake, but simply the next season. A continuation. It would indeed be a new idea since that’s something we’ve never seen from a cartoon sitcom. I’d give anything for a few seasons of The Simpsons with older characters.

by Anonymousreply 60March 17, 2019 10:49 PM

r23 couldn't agree with you more. This would be atrocious!

by Anonymousreply 61March 17, 2019 10:53 PM

The word is acquaintance, Cissy Cobb, as in "I'm not pleased to make your's.

by Anonymousreply 62March 17, 2019 11:00 PM

I could see Hank as a straight party republican voter who is overly uncomfortable with Dump's rhetoric and agenda. Peggy should be a liberal feminist, and Bobby would be chubby.

Imagining Hank react to the Trump and Storny Daniels story made me giggle.

by Anonymousreply 63March 17, 2019 11:08 PM

No way does Dale vote at all, r56 lol. I do miss that show.

by Anonymousreply 64March 17, 2019 11:10 PM

Grab 'em by the... you know what.

by Anonymousreply 65March 17, 2019 11:11 PM

[quote]Brittany Murphy did the voice of the daughter on "King of the Hill". She'll have to be replaced.

Why?

by Anonymousreply 66March 17, 2019 11:11 PM

Both Brittany and Tom Petty are dead so they can be written off. Maybe Lucky sued Kroger for millions in a "fall" and he and LuAnne could take her puppet show on the road.

by Anonymousreply 67March 17, 2019 11:15 PM

The show would open up with the funeral of Luann just like how the 90210 reboot is opening with the funeral of Luke Perry.

by Anonymousreply 68March 17, 2019 11:19 PM

We learned in beauty school that people aren't black...or white...or red...or yellow...

by Anonymousreply 70March 18, 2019 3:34 AM

r70 I still cant watch the episode when bobby sees Luanne naked cause I still get bothered. That and the grilling naked one. Nancy hicks gribble!!!.

by Anonymousreply 71March 18, 2019 3:39 AM

I love KoTH. One of the best sitcoms on tv. Don’t know if this will be any good, but I’ll watch.

by Anonymousreply 72March 18, 2019 3:41 AM

I would have done John Redcorn.

by Anonymousreply 73March 18, 2019 5:43 AM

Let’s face it, they all voted for Trump and would be wearing MAGA hats. Except for Bobby, who is gay and now old enough to vote. Remember Propaniacs and when he wanted to be a groupie (err ... roadie)?

If I recall, we don't find out whether Hank voted for W or not, after he was upset by W's limp handshake.

But people really missed the subtle conservativism of the show when it was on, and nowadays they wouldn't. At times it was borderline propaganda, especially with the gay/effete commentary.

This is a 2-year-old thread though so I don't think we really have to worry about it.

by Anonymousreply 77March 18, 2019 8:11 AM

It was propaganda for what? To promote Republicans?

by Anonymousreply 78March 18, 2019 8:13 AM

[quote]It was propaganda for what? To promote Republicans?

No, silly. To promote propane and propane accessories.

by Anonymousreply 79March 18, 2019 2:46 PM

Mike judge is a Republican, I believe. Among other things, the Goode Family is his creation.

by Anonymousreply 80March 18, 2019 2:55 PM

Despite his King of the Hill protagonist Hank Hill being identifiable as a conservative[60] and his The Goode Family being essentially a satire of many liberal viewpoints, Judge avoids discussing his political leanings.

In reviewing Idiocracy, Salon stated, "Judge's gimlet eye is so ruthless that at times his politics seem to border on South Park libertarianism."[61] A writer for the libertarian magazine Reason seems to agree, comparing King of the Hill to the anti-authoritarian point of view of South Park and The Simpsons, though he calls the show more populist, noting the disdain King of the Hill seems to have for bureaucrats, professionals, and big-box chains.[62]

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 81March 18, 2019 2:56 PM

He's most likely a libertarian. Rich white guy who won't discuss politics in Hollywood. Very South Park. Probably"couldn't bring himself" to vote for Hillary.

Idiocracy was vaguely racist.

by Anonymousreply 82March 18, 2019 2:58 PM

Idiocracy was not racist, but it was prophetic

I think Judge leans right, but not socially which is why he seems libertarian to those trying to guess.

Someone trying to produce stealth right wing propaganda would not have portrayed Ann Richards favorably or offer Willie Nelson as a hero to the protagonist.

I think it’s also important to remember the primary mission statement of KOH: lampoon (in a more subtle way) Texas culture.
