'It's like blackface': Alec Baldwin slammed by disabled groups for accepting lead role in movie about a blind man

[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]

Oh...everybody is outraged by everything. We can't deal. Did they want a blind man to take the role and read all the scripts in braille?

by Anonymousreply 1July 28, 2017 2:22 AM

They'd call a blind actor playing a sighted part otherly abled progress.

by Anonymousreply 2July 28, 2017 2:25 AM

Good good, it's nothing like black face. He's an actor....actors act like other people. They need a big name (Alec is....pretty huge) and doy they not understand the concept of insurance which wouldn't be so high using an actor who can see? Blackface were white people using black stereotypes with a painted black face...."sho' nuff cuz I's say tah mah massah......" Alec isn't "cooning" and he ain't "shuck and jiving".

by Anonymousreply 3July 28, 2017 2:30 AM

Actors have been playing blind people for years. Why all the fuss now? PC warriors? Yup.

by Anonymousreply 4July 28, 2017 2:30 AM

R3 by huge I meant DAMN he got big in the gut.

by Anonymousreply 5July 28, 2017 2:31 AM

Blackface is Scaramooch playing a Long Islander. Isn't Baldwin from Massapequa?

by Anonymousreply 6July 28, 2017 2:32 AM

How stupid!

by Anonymousreply 7July 28, 2017 2:32 AM

R3 meant Good God....shit what is wrong with me tonight?

by Anonymousreply 8July 28, 2017 2:33 AM

This is yet another "Let's put up another bullshit article about liberals to shore up our stupid alt-right base" piece from that cum rag Daily Mail.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,

by Anonymousreply 9July 28, 2017 2:35 AM

fuck em all

sick of this we are dainty little flowers who are offended by, well, name ANYTHING...... and we will be offended.

and we will rag on you about it also.

eat me.

by Anonymousreply 10July 28, 2017 2:37 AM

Are there any big name blind actors?

by Anonymousreply 11July 28, 2017 3:40 AM

This is why Trumpussolini will probably win again in 2020.

SJWs have destroyed the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 12July 28, 2017 4:45 AM

Acting is appropriation! We should only allow real architects to play architects in future. (Robert Reed is responsible for thousands of architect deaths since just last week you know) No more fake doctors on tv, only REAL doctors, fuck the health system, we don't need doctors in hospital, we need them in film sets.

by Anonymousreply 13July 28, 2017 5:00 AM

Only murderers should play murderers?

by Anonymousreply 14July 28, 2017 5:02 AM

Good thing Audrey Hepburn isn't still around otherwise these people would be tearing her to shreds for playing Suzie in Wait Until Dark. Ditto Elizabeth Hartman in A Patch Of Blue.

by Anonymousreply 15July 28, 2017 5:05 AM

Crip face!

by Anonymousreply 16July 28, 2017 5:14 AM

And yet the SJWs are all for biological appropriation, or would that be "DNA appropriation"?

The Regressive Left goes after a professional actor, Alec Baldwin, for playing a blind man in a movie, but gives courage awards to Bruce Jenner for wearing WomanFace in real life, not in the make-believe world of film.

And they get indignant when their hypocrisy is pointed out.

by Anonymousreply 17July 28, 2017 6:01 AM

So all movies should be documentaries now? No actor should play any role that does not resemble his life. What a ridiculous idea!

by Anonymousreply 18July 28, 2017 6:25 AM

R18

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 19July 29, 2017 2:21 AM

But everyone on the planet can play a character written as a white man and get awards for it.

Fuck the underclass overlords.

by Anonymousreply 20July 29, 2017 2:35 AM

Shouldn't the blind people see the movie first before they condemn it?

by Anonymousreply 21July 29, 2017 3:30 AM

He just can't win.

by Anonymousreply 22December 31, 2017 1:56 AM

I needed a doll after I read this.....

by Anonymousreply 23December 31, 2017 2:06 AM

Fucking ridiculous!

by Anonymousreply 24December 31, 2017 2:15 AM

"This film script has all the feels" -- Braille sensitivity reader

by Anonymousreply 25December 31, 2017 2:17 AM

This is completely fucking out of control. What's next - will people protest the Oscars if Sally Hawkins is nominated for The Shape of Water? After all, I'm sure Marlee Matlin was available to play the part!

by Anonymousreply 26December 31, 2017 2:18 AM

He is an ass either way.

Blind blind or legally blind? Big difference.

Also is "legally blonde" an ableist slur? Methinks it is. BOYCOTT.

(Somebody simulcast this in Braille. I'm dictating to my Navajo burn victim trans secretary.)

by Anonymousreply 30February 13, 2018 9:19 PM

It must be SO exhausting being a progressive and maintaining a proper outrage over so many vital things.

Is it okay to accept a supporting role?

by Anonymousreply 32February 13, 2018 9:41 PM

All I can think about right now is my favorite installment of Strangers with Candy, the episode "Behind Blank Eyes."

What the... ? We won Oscars for playing vision-impaired people.

by Anonymousreply 34February 13, 2018 11:04 PM

Stevie Wonder and Ronnie Millsap both passed on this project.

by Anonymousreply 35February 13, 2018 11:36 PM

Oedipus declined. Also blind community says he doesn't count. They prefer Tyresius.

by Anonymousreply 36February 13, 2018 11:40 PM

It's called ACTING.

by Anonymousreply 37February 13, 2018 11:51 PM

If Helen Keller were here, she'd be rolling her blind eyes over this shit.

by Anonymousreply 38February 14, 2018 12:05 AM

It's not comparable to blackface. The origins of blackface lie in racist mockery and stereotyping. The whole point of acting is that you're playing someone other than yourself. If it's automatically offensive for an able-bodied person to play a disabled person, you might as well say it's offensive for actors to wear "poor-face" and play characters of lower socioeconomic status than themselves.
