She was a good woman in many respects for her charity work for abused children. You have to admire her for this reason. I don't know much about Mrs. Sinatra, except that Frank's daughter Tina, had some issues with her. I bet she'll be tap dancing on Barbara's grave.
What kind of a step mother was she?

I met Barbara Sinatra several times. She was smart, tough, and beautiful well into old age. She lived on Broad Beach in Malibu in the Summer near a friend. She also spent time in the South of France while Frank was alive. The Sinatra's hated her, and Dolly Sinatra refused to fly with "that Whore!" so Frank chartered another plane for Dolly which crashed. .
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 25, 2017 7:07 PM |
You beat me to it r3.
I really do wonder if she was the reason they've played cat-and-mouse with Ronan's paternity over the years. If in fact it's true he's Sinatra's, expect more openess or even outright confirmation in the future now that the 3rd Mrs. S is gone.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 25, 2017 7:09 PM |
Sorry that would be the 4th Mrs. S, not the 3rd.

Nancy Sinatra Sr. still receives a huge percentage of Frank Sinatra's earnings as part of their divorce agreement. The children are fine with that as she is their Mother. If Barbara charged a jet charter to the company, the kids went bonkers. They always hated Barbara and prevented their Father from adopting Bobby Marx, Barbara's son.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 25, 2017 7:13 PM |
Yes Nancy Tina and Frank Jr always despised Barbara, yet remain very close to Mia.

Barbara was a very tough cookie who never minced words and was very protective of Frank. She also spent like a horse and favored her own son over her stepkids. Of course his kids disliked her.

My late father's friend was the head of security at Resorts International in Atlantic City back in the 70s and 80s. Sinatra was still performing then and appeared at Resorts. This guy told us backstage where the security detail was stationed, Frank and his wife (Barbara) had a really ugly fight - he called her a cunt and she yelled that he was a motherfucking dick! Apparently behind the scenes they had their moments!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 25, 2017 7:58 PM |
Sisters Nancy and Tina hated Barbara but Frank Jr. was civil to her and they got along pretty well.
The girls were very angry that Barbara did not phone them up and tell them that their father died right after he passed away. Apparently she took her sweet time. Big rift there.

I read a story in a magazine about a man who worked very closely with Frank Sinatra for years. He said that toward the end Frank told him that he really did not love or want Barbara around anymore but he was too old to get married again so he just put up with her and the marriage.

Nancy Sr was old-school, but always looked great with fabulous jewelry. We were all at an event together (this was 20 years ago) and everyone was remarking how wonderful she looked.
I said, "Why shouldn't she look wonderful, all she has to do is hobble to the mailbox once a month to get her check?"
Turns out she was right behind me, starting laughing and gave me a kiss. Love her.
Barbara is vile-good riddance.

Who were/are the other friends of Nancy Sr.?

Story is that when FS was taken to the hospital at the end. Barbara did not let his children know which meant they could not be there when he died.

That's horrible that Barbara did not notify Frank's children about their father on his deathbed.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 25, 2017 9:02 PM |
There was also the story that when the family was gathered to hear the will being read, Barbara shouted out something to the effect of 'there you go, I got mine!' when she heard she was getting a hefty share. The kids were understandably pissed.

Dear R35. That never happened. Barbara was given a trust long before Frank died. The homes and a little cash were all that was made public. Barbara also had incredible Jewels from Frank that were given by the Casino's he performed at as part of his deal. The children of Frank received the bulk of his money, including all the master recordings and royalties.

If Ronan really belonged to Frank, I'm pretty sure Mia would be dying to say so if only to hurt Woody.
And the timeline is even more ridiculous with Ronan than with Prince Harry. Mia would've had to been fucking Frank 20 years AFTER they divorced, when Frank was over 70.

The two Nancys, Frank Jr. and Tina read in the LOS ANGELES TIMES that the Catholic Church annulled the marriage of the senior Frank and Nancy. OMG, I just remembered Merv Griffin used to do Hollywood wives episodes on his talk show (yes, I'm elder). He's have on the wives of the vintage stars of the day (early 1970s). Dean Martin's wife appeared a lot. One episode featured Mrs. James Stewart, Mrs. Henry Fonda, Mrs. Kirk Douglas, Mrs. Robert Stack (Rosemarie), Mrs. Freddie Fields, and others. I used to love that show.
I can't find the specific episodes but here's a link to all of the episodes. It's a rich mine of vintage stars and nostalgia.

by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 27, 2017 3:20 AM |
I'm not sure that Barbara Sinatra was a golddigger. I didn't know much about her, so read up some. No info on husband #1. Husband #2 was Zeppo Marx, who was insanely jealous of any man speaking to her, but openly cheated on her throughout their marriage. Frank must've loved her as he left her $3.5 million, some mansions, and book rights upon his death. He was about 12 years older than her, which is not nowhere near the Anna Nicole Smith-Howard Marshall age difference.
I'd buy the Ronan is Frank's son theory except for one thing. Ronan has Woody Allen's fucked up looking mouth. No way he's anyone's son but Woody's with that mouth.

Over 100 posts and you all have missed so much of the good stuff!
To the person who asked about Nancy's friends, please note she was VERY close with Lena Horne. Make of it what you will. I know the friendship pissed Frank off. Nancy was one of the (unseen) commentators on that 2 part Sinatra documentary commemorating his 100th birthday. She sounded like every tough Italian old lady I grew up with in Brooklyn, especially when she called Ava Gardner a bitch.
Frank LOVED Ava and had "relations" with her for years after the divorce. Frank even owned the statue sculpted specifically for her film ONE TOUCH OF VENUS. Frank bought it and had it in his garden - well shortly after he married Barbara, she called up a removal business and it has never been seen again; allegedly she had it destroyed and dumped somewhere. It would be a VERY valuable item today.
Mia, who is on Twitter all day and tweets about EVERYTHING made no mention of her death.
The best, by far, is the emotionless response Nancy Sinatra gave to some clueless Marine from Arizona, who tweeted to her "condolences on the death of her Mother."
"Replying to @JohnathanHiess
"She was my stepmother. My mother is still with us."
1:48 PM - 25 Jul 2017
Finally, upon her death, the only one who gave her a tribute on tv was that Republican-leaning Connecticut/Palm Beach bitch Kathy Lee Gifford.
I am sure there will be an auction - her heirs will unload her stuff immediately and I bet it will be FABULOUS.

I loved the 2 part Sinatra documentary. Very good.
I loved Tina talking openly about the Joe Kennedy to Sinatra to The Mob connection about the JFK election shenanigans.
I loved hearing Nancy Sr talk about Frank inviting his girlfriend Marilyn Maxwell to a party in their home before they were divorced. I think I recall that Nancy had found some jewelry in Frank's car's glove compartment that she thought was for her. Maxwell wore the jewelry to the party. Nancy Sr went right up to Maxwell at the party and told her off.
Frank later went up to Nancy Sr and told her she should APOLOGIZE TO MAXWELL!!!
Nancy Sr's response was something along the lines of "You have got to be crazy."
Very interesting documentary. Good and bad stuff. And some stories about the songs he sang.

R103, If Frank's doctor, Rex Kennamer(also Elizabeth Taylor's doctor) called Tina at home immediately upon Frank's death, then why didn't he alert the Sinatra children that their father was near death? He'd been Frank's doctor for years and also a family friend. Frank was in and out of the hospital several times near the end. Distrusting Barbara, the Sinatra children should have instructed Rex to inform them of his imminent death.

Ayy i yi. Ava was some kinda woman. The rift between Barbra Sinatra and his girls is well known. Nancy was practically his lil sister as the Italians will do. She is a cool presence on Twitter but not overly edgy. She loves Peter Fonda, George Takei and Rob Reiner. She mentioned John Heard last week and has said her father would hate what is happening now. She is a big RIP tweeter. Nancy has a few times responded to someone by saying "I'm an old lady and have been one for awhile." The Sinatra's are a pretty fascinating show biz bunch. Frank didn't marry Barbara until she was 50 and he was almost 70. Can't you age out of being a whore? DL posters should know. He started with a conventional marriage and he ended with one. In between he found the wild and destructive love of his life, the one who made him the greatest singer of heartbreak ever.
Nancy hasn't tweeted anything about her father's last wife OR Barbara Sinatra. She did go silent for 24 hours so I would bet they had some respects to pay. They are still catholics those Sinatra girls. Cool liberated and very California catholics. Still, Nancy is 77 herself. She would never publicly disrespect a 90 year old woman she has known for 40 years. Barbara did keep them from Sinatra's death bed. You can never forgive that. But those Sinatra girls were spoiled Italian maniacs, maybe Mrs. S had her reasons....

by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 28, 2017 1:37 AM |
haHa! Thanks for reading my post. I disagree. Ava Gardner was a true slut, she fucked everything that moved. She was gang fucked, cheated on everyone, loved black men and rough men and big dicks and would leave a room or bar with a stranger just to drive her present lover or husband insane with jealousy. Not a whore, because whore's get paid. Gays probably relate better to that behavior. She was some kinda beautiful broad who loved sex, but could never be desired enough to satisfy her rage and insecurities. She ended up sad, but maybe not sorry. Heavy drinker, alone.
Whores are more calculating than sluts and take better care of themselves. Frank Sinatra was not easily taken to church. He married Barbara because he felt she was the right woman for his old age. The great man lost his will to divorce her around the time he became a republican supporter and all his other secrets came out. The trick to an iconoclastic life is to not lose your nerve, but most everyone who lives too long loses their nerve. Sinatra lost his. He ended up with the right wife. She took a lot of abuse from that old prick, and during his not short decline she took a lot of abuse from his children too. She wasn't cool - she was in control.

It would take me some time to re-create the immediate events leading up to my father’s death. From the time he woke up on Thursday, he was quiet and withdrawn—perhaps a carryover from his state of mind the night before. Early that afternoon, he was coaxed out into the garden for some fresh air. He requested a grilled cheese sandwich but didn’t finish it. He returned to his room in a state of growing agitation. I don’t know what transpired over the next few hours, and probably never will. What I do know is that Dad was distressed, emotionally and physically. It wasn’t like Barbara to be away so much. The pity was that she didn’t feel the necessity to phone Nancy or me to stay with him in her stead. Of all the nights for none of us to be there, this was the worst. I will live with the guilt of not being there for the rest of my life. By early evening, Dad was complaining of shortness of breath, the claustrophobe’s worst nightmare. At about eight o’clock he sat up screaming. To Vine’s alarm, his lips turned blue; he fell back onto the bed. Mario called the paramedics, who attended to Dad at Foothill but were unable to stabilize him. He was rushed to Cedars, where he arrived—critically ill but alive—at approximately nine-thirty. In recent medical emergencies, my sister and I had been alerted—but not this time, not even by Vine, who’d been left behind at home. (Vine did call Tony, who reached the hospital in plenty of time from his home out in the Valley.) When Susan Reynolds worked the phone at the nurses’ station, Nancy and I were not on her call list. But I am certain Bobby Marx was, back in New York. Meanwhile, a medical team worked feverishly on Dad in triage. Twice Barbara became nauseated and had to leave the room. In between, she hovered over Dad, urging him on: “Fight, darling, you must fight.” The hard reality, though, was that my father had no artillery left. As Rex Kennamer would acknowledge, they could have done an angiogram on Dad, then possibly put him through angioplasty or bypass surgery. But they’d already decided not to go that route after Dad’s first heart attack, for reasons we’d all agreed upon. Those reasons stood, emergency or no. Dad remained alive at Cedars for more than eighty minutes. There was ample time to notify his children and get them to their father’s bedside. I believe the omission was deliberate. Barbara would be the devoted wife, and then the grieving widow, alone at her husband’s side.

She was married to Zeppo Marx. He and Sinatra were friends; they played golf together all the time She dumped him for Frank. I wonder how he felt about that, whether he was devastated or benign about it. Anyway, she was definitely his type. After the dark haired Ava, it seems that all he wanted to fuck blue eyed blondes; Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Mia.
His affair with Marilyn was a strange thing. Frank was not a patient, benevolent man; how did he get in a relationship with such a train wreck as Monroe. I've heard different things about it. I've heard she wanted to marry him but he didn't want to. I've heard he wanted to marry her, but she didn't want to. I've heard he pitied her and that's why he put up with her for a long as he did. He introduced her to her mobster friends and she spent time at his sleazy Cal-Neva lodge, where she was reportedly photographed being ridden like a horse by Sam Giancana. All of this info comes from various biographies of Frank's life.
I think Barbara Sinatra was probably good for Sinatra. She was just his type. And to have landed Sinatra as a husband was considered quite a prize. But I didn't think he was such a prize.

Frank Sinatra also dated Judy Garland after her marriage to Sid Luft ended. If I recall correctly, Judy prepared a dinner for him and he just did not show up, which is how she found out he broke up with her.

DNA analysis can certainly differentiate Jewish heritage from Italian (or Irish) heritage, as evidenced by a tediously long article that was recently published in the Washington Post. Some woman sent in her DNA to one of the testing companies, and then was HORRIFIED when it proclaimed that she was not 100% Irish, but was half Jewish. So she spent the next couple of years obsessively researching it, and eventually discovered that there was probably a baby mixup at the hospital back in the 1920s when her father was born.
My own venture into DNA testing resulted in a connection with an illegitimate half-uncle. Some things are best left alone.

I recall hearing about 10-12 years ago in the British media disgraced British PR King Max Clifford that Frank or someone in the Sinatra family were paying him to keep stories out of the UK press about his children specifically his daughters feuding and battling with his wife for control of his empire and inheritance of his fortune. He didn't explicitly say who did what but implied it got extremely nasty and would have made tabloid dynamite if published. A real power struggle with vicious antics. The events he was referring to went back to at least 1993 when matters escalated presumably as his health declined and family chess pieces moved around in anticipation of his demise. I really wish he'd elaborated more. Instinct tells me it isn't fair to only throw accusations of greed in Barbara's direction.

by Anonymous | reply 147 | August 18, 2017 7:05 PM |
Anyone willing to make the case for defending Barbara? Lots of Frank's showbusiness friends particularly the ones close ish to his age group stayed on good terms with her after he'd died and are reported to have said she stabilised him a lot of the time. So they clearly don't share the daughters view that she was a wicked nasty schemer.

The first and third of Sinatra's wives comment directly on that 4 hour Sinatra DVD biography from 2015 "Sinatra: All or Nothing". Additionally, the bio includes quoted comments from wife #2 (Ava Gardner) who was deceased when the bio was made. I loved the story told by Nancy Sr. (her own words and voice) about finding a bracelet in Frank's glove compartment that she thought he was going to give to her. She later saw it worn by Marilyn Maxwell at a party at the Sinatra house. She confronted Maxwell at the party. Maxwell complained to Frank. Frank told Nancy Sr. that she should apologize to Maxwell. Nancy Sr. remarks about the incident and her response to Frank were priceless.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | August 20, 2017 5:48 AM |
Maybe Nancy Sr. was glad to be rid of Frank and all his drama, and liked being a rich divorcée in Beverly Hills.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | August 20, 2017 2:06 PM |
Well it has crossed my mind [R149] that Frank's daughters may have been just as guilty as being obsessed with getting their hands on Frank's money as they'd accused Barbara of being. Especially if what Max Clifford said about him being asked by Sinatra to keep stories of feuds between Barbara and his daughters out of the press from as early as 1992.

I didn't know Barbara had died. My first day bussing tables in LA Tina Sinatra had a complete sobbing meltdown at the table. I believe Barbara was left ownership of the company but Tina was still to be chairwoman and run it. I will never forget her saying "Just wait until the first day that bitch tells me what to do". She came in about twice a month and she was almost always with Suzanne Pleshette. Nancy came in with Suzanne too from time to time but I never saw the 3 of them together. Nancy was very sweet, like your best friend's mom. She took great interest in my apartment search bless her. Tina was a raging hot mess but with no malice. Always polite to the staff.
I do know there was also major drama on the day of the funeral. Nancy organized a military salute and put the announcement on the website, Barbara said no way and the girls were going to skip the funeral until their lawyer intervened. I wish I could remember his name.... Robert or Richard Finklestein is all that comes to me....... He was also Pleshette's lawyer and one day I came over to clear the table and he was telling Tina he just couldn't do something, Pleshette grabs his shirt and says 'listen fuckface' then they notice me... At this point I was a server and he left me a very funny note on the check and a $50 tip. Nice man.

by Anonymous | reply 176 | September 15, 2017 3:46 AM |
Bobbys father is Robert Oliver Barbara's first husband and Barbara's only child. Barbara claimed that Zeppo wanted to adopt Bobby but Barbara's first husband said no. Bobby legally changed his last name to Marx but not adopted by Zeppo. That being said Barbara wrote in her book that Zeppo had Bobby sent to military school and had Bobby stay in a separate part of the house.

Nancy Sinatra was the epitome of nepotism. Girl can't sing, at all. She kinds of hums along. What did she die of? Funny to be almost forgotten when her dad was one of the biggest celebrities and most celebrated recording artists in HISTORY. But Nancy was just a burnt sugar blonde riding on his coattails. Someone said she had a happy marriage but her husband died tragically. Did Frank put out a hit on him?
Regardless, RIP Nancy Sinatra. Malibu mourns you. You were richer than God. All those glossed over tributes and films and books and Reprise records kept you still living off daddy when you were 80 years old! A dynasty ends here. Frank Sinatra Jr. killed himself a number of years ago. Christina Sinatra has long lived in rehabs and mental hospitals. Nice ones. I don't think Frank had any grandchildren. Funny. Not usual with Italian families. Nancy is survived by her lawyers. Ha. Rumer Willis did a much better version of Bang Bang. Nancy Sinatra's music was very Tarantino. As in ironically bad singing and songs. May her memory be a blessing.
