Oh for fuck's sake. It's yet *another* National Enquirer "the sad last days" of a faded celebrity. I like to think that the assholes who pound out this crap remember when they were the darling of the creative writing department and were going to write the great American novel.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 16, 2017 3:47 AM |
Robert Conrad is so gorgeous in the picture at R12. Indeed, if there had been any lingering doubt that I was gay, watching him in those skin-tight blue pants in the Wild, Wild West resolved it. And, thanks, R30. William Smith in Laredo was so hot as well.

He and my dad used to hang out. The guy is like 4' 11". Wears lifts, or did. Nice body, shit personality.

Where? When? Did your dad fuck him, hard?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 16, 2017 7:46 AM |
Studio City in the 80s. They were trying to promote a singer who never made it, Jenny Green although she did write a few hit songs.
My dad is straight, no idea about Robert.

jesus he is really THAT short? well, not 4' 11" but still....that's a big fuck the world complex he has lived with forever.... anyway it said he has dementia.......that goes well with alcohol. it's hard to go from famous and beautiful to old, mostly forgotten and fucked up.

Supposedly he's extremely conservative and homophobic.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 16, 2017 12:13 PM |
He still looked good in R10's photos from 2012. He had a good run (esp for an asshole).
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 16, 2017 1:06 PM |
I think those photos at R10 from battle of the network stars long before 2012. He did look good for his age through the 1990s. He was in a serious accident in the early 2000s and that largely ended things for him looks and career wise.
I loved watching him in WWW, but his personality started to shine through in his later parts, and eventually even the characters he played were pretty insufferable. I think there is even a bit of a difference from early WWW episodes to the last season. At the beginning he showed some vulnerability and by the end he was more smug and it took more and more henchmen to bring him down.
I remember seeing him on a Tonight Show interview int he 80's or 90's and he came off pretty horrible. The other guest was an elderly gentleman who was pretty flamboyant. I am guessing the man was pretty much living openly as gay, but it was still not something discussed in interviews. Conrad was saying something along the lines that it was now his son's job (it must have been during that ranger show he did with them) to wear tight pants. He then looked at the other guest and said something like "I bet you like that". It was said with kind of an ugly smile and sneer which came off homophobic.
I don't know if I have ever seen a show objectify and show off its male lead as much as WWW. Long lingering shots Contrad's face, butt, and chest (when you watch it now it is really blatant and had to be discussed behind the scenes). Besides that, it was actually a pretty imaginative show, esp. the first few seasons when it had more of a Jules Verne feel.
His son Shane had a short career - and while not as good looking as his dad - was good looking. Probably best know for his role as Marcia's jock suitor in the Brady Bunch Movie.

Fun thread!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 16, 2017 2:35 PM |
R52 is right. The Wild Wild West show had a Jules Verne feel to it. My favorite villain was the little dwarf who showed up occassionally, remember him?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 16, 2017 2:51 PM |
So sexy as Milo Janis in COLUMBO.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 16, 2017 2:56 PM |
Dr. Loveless. He was obsessed with West and there was a bit of subtext in their scenes. He often talked about Jim West's looks and seemed to prefer to capture him alive so he could lord over him. A lot of it was jealousy, but there was an element that he appreciated his foe was a good looking man. There were a number of well-fleshed out villains played by good actors. They were colorful like that Batman villains, but a number of them had an element to them that made them somewhat tragic and sympathetic.
Unpopular opinion - I thought Artie could be tiresome and did not find his chemistry with Conrad all that great. His man of many disguises grew old and often seemed forced,
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 16, 2017 2:59 PM |
Michael Dunn, an Oscar nominee for Ship of Fools (1965), played Dr. Miguelito Loveless on The Wild, Wild West; shown here with Richard Kiel:

by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 16, 2017 3:22 PM |
[quote]Nobody watched Black Sheep Squadron?
It is on Antenna TV (or one of those stations). Classic Happy Days, Mash, etc. where the hair, make-up fit of the clothes are straight late 70's, but I think for its time it was actually considered a decent show. It was his strongest WWW venture and on a superficial level he still was a good looking, now middle-aged man
You saw a few of the supporting cast make it bigger later on, esp. John Laroquette.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 16, 2017 3:23 PM |
I watched it, r61. I asked because no one mentioned it, it was a good show, he was still good looking, and he was surrounded by young, fit men.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 16, 2017 3:31 PM |
Yes, WWW was a little before my time, but I was the right age for Black Sheep Squadron, and all the cute men stirred things in my loins that took awhile to figure out.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 16, 2017 4:02 PM |
Somehow I'm not surprised that he's a broken down old drunk. When he was young, he was vain, sensitive about his height, proud of his physique, lied about his age (shaving off years even back in the 60s) and seemed like an all around asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 16, 2017 4:55 PM |
Didn't he do those stupid Duracell or Eveready battery commercials with a battery on his bicep, goading people to knock it off the bicep.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 16, 2017 4:57 PM |
yep - they were on for a few years. Duracell was around before the Everready launched the Energizer battery and they did last a lot longer than anything else at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 16, 2017 5:01 PM |
A conservative who is closeted. an alcoholic, and obsesses about his height and age.
What a perfect storm.
There are plenty of stories in the earlier DL threads about Conrad regarding his closeted ways.

He posted this picture from the set of the Battle of The Network Stars reboot (in his original NBC jacket) a few weeks ago. Apparently his grand daughter is one of the producers.

R52 - I thought son Shane was smoking hot in the BB movie, but you're right. When it comes to beauty, he doesn't come close to his Pa...despite being quite handsome.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 16, 2017 6:56 PM |
"WWW" was a little before my time, my first exposure to Robert Conrad was his aforementioned turn as a killer on an excellent "Columbo" episode. Then later, "Battle of the Network Stars", where he came across as a notorious douchebag. And many colleagues have gone on record as saying they couldn't stand him.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 16, 2017 7:05 PM |
Conrad has one of those nose jobs that look worse the older he gets.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 16, 2017 7:46 PM |
I hope my two nose jobs dont get bad as i age... do they do that? I thought they stopped your nose from growing?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 16, 2017 8:16 PM |
I watched WWW and, through, the mists of time, seem to remember thinking he was sexy. Well, the ass, really. Don't remember Dr. Loveless, and it seems kind of cruel to give that name to a little-person character, then have a hunk (although himself pocket sized) as the foil. Part of Bob's perverse appeal was his rough tradey manner, like he knows you want to fuck him and won't give you what you.want. The smirk of unavailability. Ok for fantasy, but disastrous in real life. Ah, desire!
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 16, 2017 9:23 PM |
Thank you Robert Conrad for all the fantasies I had about you, and the realization that quite often the better looking the guy the bigger the asshole personality. I already knew it but you sure can't judge a book by the cover.

Well, there are those who did bring the ultimate in male beauty to the screen. His demeanor and politics were repugnant to mine, but again, at least give him credit for being the ultimate in male beauty. Forgive him for not dying young.

I doubt it Bob's father's name was Falkowski, Polish. Peter's was plain Falk, Jewish Polish.
When Bob was born, his father was 16, his mother, 15. When Bob married his first wife, he was almost 17.
