Karla Homolka no longer allowed to volunteer at N.D.G. school

Canadians are a little lax, no? I don't believe we've heard the last from Karla. I believe the sick pathology behind her actions is still within her.

[quote]Under provincial law, anyone who wishes to volunteer at a school must undergo a criminal background check. Asked if the school applied this scrutiny to Homolka before the field trip, a representative from Greaves Adventist Academy said they were aware of her notorious past.

Ok...so they just ignored their own rule? For HER? It seems they only changed their mind when the media found out. What the fuck?

by Anonymousreply 1June 2, 2017 10:31 PM

Who the hell married this twisted evil bitch? And then chose to have multiple kids with her? What a jack ass

by Anonymousreply 2June 2, 2017 10:31 PM

I think she was just in the throes of Stockholm Syndrome, being married to a sicko like that. I doubt she would ever re-offend, despite having been a party to such horrific crimes, unless she manages to be sought out by another sicko of that caliber, to whom she could be susceptible.

That said, she should not be around children. Maybe she could go volunteer at the Humane Society?

by Anonymousreply 3June 2, 2017 10:32 PM

Her lawyers brother.

by Anonymousreply 4June 2, 2017 10:32 PM

She was responsible for the deaths of 2 schoolgirls. I wouldn't want her around any kids or animals.

by Anonymousreply 5June 2, 2017 10:33 PM

This truly defies all reason - she's a serial killer.

I laughed because I thought this was a joke at first.

by Anonymousreply 6June 2, 2017 10:34 PM

Whether she re-offends or not, she's still a twisted fucking murderer. I don't think Stockholm Syndrome is a legitimate excuse here. You could claim the same thing about the Manson girls, for example.

by Anonymousreply 7June 2, 2017 10:35 PM

R3 She was an active and willing participant. I'm sick of the "weak, easily led female" card being played when it suits.

Females can be as sick and twisted as males.

by Anonymousreply 8June 2, 2017 10:38 PM

R2 the same kind of person who send love letters to serial killers. Either they are sociopaths like them, or have a bad case of "I am going to redeem him/her".

by Anonymousreply 9June 2, 2017 11:39 PM

She arranged for the rape and murder of her own sister. Why is she still alive? Oh, yeah, Canada.

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2017 11:51 PM

[quote] Ok...so they just ignored their own rule? For HER? It seems they only changed their mind when the media found out. What the fuck

That cunt is exempt from many rules. She's every bit as heinous as her husband or Luke Mag-whatever his name is. Being a woman granted her more latitude.

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2017 11:59 PM

[quote]She arranged for the rape and murder of her own sister. Why is she still alive? Oh, yeah, Canada.

She drugged her sister, made out with her while she was passed out for Paul's enjoyment, then let him rape her. Sick cunt.

by Anonymousreply 12June 3, 2017 12:05 AM

[quote] She drugged her sister, made out with her while she was passed out for Paul's enjoyment, then let him rape her

And she was angry and incredulous that her family wouldn't forgive her.

by Anonymousreply 13June 3, 2017 12:10 AM

R11 gets it. Karla has had it relatively easy. She's a very good manipulator.

by Anonymousreply 14June 3, 2017 12:19 AM

He was a serial rapist. He didn't murder anyone until she became his accomplice.

I remember all of this when it happened. I can't fathom what the school or school board was thinking. Parents should be livid.

by Anonymousreply 17June 3, 2017 12:28 AM

It's a small fundamentalist private school. I bet they're in big trouble and could lose their grant.

by Anonymousreply 18June 3, 2017 12:32 AM

R13, she did more than that. She helped murder her. I cannot see the troll who downplayed it, and whom you quoted, but it was far far worse.

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2017 12:45 AM

In fact, forensic evidence proves she drugged her sister, fatally, in a jealous rage over her lover's obsession with her. This was their first murder and it was all hers, if anyone cared to look more carefully. She should never have been allowed to have children or be near any. RIP, Tammy. You didn't deserve to die.

This isn't the first time she's surfaced in NDG. At least this time she isn't living there.

by Anonymousreply 22June 3, 2017 1:34 AM

There are some things that cannot be forgiven. And serving your sister up to your serial rapist husband is one of those things.

by Anonymousreply 23June 3, 2017 2:01 AM

Canada's The Fifth Estate did a really good program on Karla that summed up how insane her 12 year sentence was. She played the victim card, but what bullshit!

by Anonymousreply 24June 3, 2017 2:40 AM

I'm surprised she was allowed to keep her children. Unfortunately the sex offender registry was created after her conviction.

by Anonymousreply 25June 3, 2017 3:09 AM

Well the only way the universe can even this out is for her daughter to suffer the same fate as her sister and her other two victims.

by Anonymousreply 26June 3, 2017 3:49 AM

I don think it would r26. She's not hiding well if she's volunteering at a tiny private school in the city, a school already under a lot of scrutiny.

Of course it would be a fundamentalist Christian school.

She lives in a suburb about 12 miles away but it's off-island , via an extremely congested, and long, bridge, not an easy drive.

Unofficially, I've heard she receives a yearly settlement for her kids from the public school board where she lives. She did some rather reckless things there as well, voulunteering as a Mom lunch monitor under an assumed name, etc. Naturally the school board needed a traceable ID and she was unmasked. She did other unofficial volunteer things like walking the dog to school to pick up her kids and walking all the unattended kids home. Later she invited them into her home for cookies, to help with their homework, etc.

It didn't take long for this to be found out. In the interest of sparing her children trauma, she was given (or they were given) a subsidy to allow the kids to attend a private school, presumably with better security. As you can imagine, she chose the cheapest school possible, without consideration to the safety of her children. This is where the benevolence of the system failed. Too many small new private schools to investigate, too much home schooling.

There doesn't appear to be much of a barrier to her rubbing our noses in it.

by Anonymousreply 27June 3, 2017 4:44 AM

People bitch about draconian sentences in the US, but her sentence was insanely light.

by Anonymousreply 28June 3, 2017 4:48 AM

The prosecution made a deal with her before knowing how complicit she was.

by Anonymousreply 29June 3, 2017 4:53 AM

There were several conditions in that plea deal that would have enabled the crown to withdraw the deal once her actual involvement was revealed. The crown chose not to. Hence, the outrage.

by Anonymousreply 30June 3, 2017 4:56 AM

[quote]I think she was just in the throes of Stockholm Syndrome, being married to a sicko like that.

Hi Karla!

by Anonymousreply 31June 3, 2017 5:23 AM

That whole ordeal with the videos and Homolka's plea deal was handled poorly. Does that Crown still work?

I remember back in 1993, just before the Internet exploded, we Canadians could not hear certain details of her plea bargain. There was a publication ban.

by Anonymousreply 32June 3, 2017 5:37 AM

Who is this sick woman's husband? Do their kids know what she did? WTF at all of this.

by Anonymousreply 33June 3, 2017 5:59 AM

She married the brother of her attorney. He waited for her to get divorced and through her sentence.

by Anonymousreply 34June 3, 2017 6:10 AM

These religious types LOVE the redemptive sinner. She probably claimed she has "found god" or some such nonsense and they welcomed her with open arms.

by Anonymousreply 35June 3, 2017 6:10 AM

It must be a very small community in that city.

by Anonymousreply 36June 3, 2017 6:14 AM

Stockholm Syndrome? She stole the gas from the veterinarian clinic she worked at and held it over her sisters face. She poured so much on the rag, held it so long and violently, that it burned her sister's face up. This is what she did. The dumb fuck Canadians said it was rug burn or something and then just buried her. Paul never killed until Karla came into the picture. She planned every capture, every scene, then every murder. Participating from start to finish.

Anyone interested in Karla needs to watch The Fifth Estate program on her. I've never seen such an unflinching news report. The woman reporter who put it together should have won every award possible.

by Anonymousreply 41June 3, 2017 7:21 AM

r37 no that fucking cunt shouldn't have won SHIT because the CBC knew more than they ever reported and they did NOTHING when it would've mattered. The ban should have been broken during the trial in the interest of public safety, but no one in the elitist media wanted to risk their careers or access rank on the cocktail circuit (the plea deal was a very political decision that went to the highest levels of government).

I would even make a wager that r27's info is not only accurate, but s/he is probably one of the Canadian media insiders who post here from time to time.

What really pisses me off is if the LEOs would have done their job on the Scarborough rape cases, those two girls would still be alive, and both Holmolka and Bernardo would be behind bars as dangerous offenders. Everybody's using the tapes as an excuse when they are a major red herring.

by Anonymousreply 42June 3, 2017 7:44 AM

She's an attractive blue eyed blonde. White women get away with Murder all the time. Amanda Knox, Casey Anthony -- the list goes on and on. This woman is a psychopath, but her looks and her manipulation helped her get a light sentence.

by Anonymousreply 43June 3, 2017 8:18 AM

She would probably have got a longer sentence even in the UK, and that's saying something.

Thats an awful picture at R37. That poor girl. What kind of evil bitch stands by and allows her little sister to go through such fear and pain? I believe they were equally guilty, and deserved equal sentences. Would either of them have murdered on their own? Who knows, that's one the psyvhologists to debate.

by Anonymousreply 44June 3, 2017 8:44 AM

Apologies for the spelling mistake at R44. It should be psychologist.

by Anonymousreply 45June 3, 2017 8:47 AM

the think is they drugged he drink before they gassed and raped her. It was at a Christmas celebration so the parents let her underage sister have a couple of drinks to celebrate. Karla made them. Strong. At Tammy's funeral, right before they closed the casket, Karla threw this in the coffin. Insisting that Tammy be buried with it.

by Anonymousreply 46June 3, 2017 7:12 PM

If the Fifth Estate had gone on the air with that report neither one of them would have gotten a day in jail.

by Anonymousreply 47June 3, 2017 7:17 PM

The only way she will ever truly comprehend the horror of what she did would be to experience it as a mother herself. Such a pity if atrocious things would happen to her own kids.

by Anonymousreply 48June 4, 2017 2:16 AM

R48 it wouldn't bother her any more than losing a favorite necklace. Sociopaths don't feel empathy, so she wouldn't be torn up over how her babies suffered. All this volunteering is because she needs to be perceived as a good mom. She also probably wants to know what other kids know about her and tell her kids.

by Anonymousreply 49June 4, 2017 2:44 AM

She's incapable of feeling anything. I've gotten together all I could about this case and dissected it. I was obsessed. If you read anything about it read the book Invisible Darkness. The author actually was jailed for a short time because they wanted to know how he got a lot of his information. It's quite clear that he was somehow able to view the tapes. He's really one of the first writers/reporters to start dismantling Karla.

by Anonymousreply 50June 4, 2017 3:02 AM

What are you talking about r47?

by Anonymousreply 51June 4, 2017 3:37 AM

Karla or Paul.

by Anonymousreply 52June 4, 2017 3:39 AM

R 10 and R 12 She performed oral sex on her sister before allowing the psycho boyfriend to rape her while Karla filmed it (for the memories.)

by Anonymousreply 53June 4, 2017 3:46 AM

Sorry, that should be: R10 and R12

by Anonymousreply 54June 4, 2017 3:47 AM

R46 Wow!! Throwing that picture in her sister's casket is twisted. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. I mean, drugging and raping your own sister is awful enough but that's like pouring salt on the wound. Shows a complete lack of remorse. In fact, she really seems to have gotten off on the violence. I think I read that the police found that photo when they exhumed the sister's body after Karla confessed to drugging her and tried to blame the boyfriend. The parents made sure it was not reburied with her. They must feel like they are living a nightmare.

by Anonymousreply 55June 4, 2017 4:01 AM

They did find it when they exhumed her body.

by Anonymousreply 56June 4, 2017 4:02 AM

I hired her as a babysitter but she ate my baby. So after that I said, I'll never hire HER again.

by Anonymousreply 57June 4, 2017 4:09 AM

If I were the family of one of her non related victims I would have put a hit on her, or done it myself.

by Anonymousreply 58June 4, 2017 4:13 AM

She is a psychopath and got away with murder. Bernardo has always claimed she murdered Mahaffey and French, and I believe it.

She gets really pissy when reporters find her. She believes she should just be able to live her life as if she didn't murder three teens.

Another good book is Lethal Marriage. Lots of disturbing description.

BTW, the tapes were played in court. Reporters there said it was clear from watching them that she enjoyed every minute of raping those girls.

This was a failure in police work and in prosecution, and that evil cunt should be hunted and exposed for who she is to her last breath.

by Anonymousreply 59June 4, 2017 4:58 AM

I love the way that reporter in The Fifth Estate grinds on the cops. "But you're smiling."

by Anonymousreply 63June 4, 2017 5:15 AM

I remember I sat in one day during her testimony. Bernardo had an excellent lawyer and he grilled Homolka on the stand. But she did not come across as meek or soft. She was argumentative, combative and even had the audacity to say "I'm a survivor."

by Anonymousreply 64June 4, 2017 4:48 PM

It was like nearly every male involved in the case, The Crown, the prosecutor, the police, and the psychiatrists could not see through Karla and were easily manipulated by her. Just about every female that was involved, granted not many, saw through her and saw what she was. Every female that worked for the prosecutor or The Crown either wanted to not go into the agreement or rescind the agreement and charge the bitch.

by Anonymousreply 65June 4, 2017 5:09 PM

She'll end up with John.

by Anonymousreply 66June 4, 2017 5:13 PM

R65 that's interesting but, sadly, not surprising.

The men who exhibited such compassion for poor little Karla probably dismissed the women who didn't as jealous, backstabbing bitches.

by Anonymousreply 67June 4, 2017 5:18 PM

r65 it was a little more complicated than that. They could have done the right thing, but it would've had a political cost, that's why no one would touch it.

Instead of charging Bernardo with the schoolgirl murders, charge him with the Scarborough rapes. They had a DNA match on that, eyewitnesses, etc. Declare him a dangerous offender, and he's done. We have no death penalty here, so he would have the same sentence he has now.

Charge *both* of them with kidnapping, forcible confinement and anything else short of the murder of the schoolgirls. Then, charge Homolka with the murder and rape of her sister. Have her declared a dangerous offender, and she gets the same sentence he does. No need for a plea deal for her testimony.

If the parents don't like it, explain to them why you're doing it, and public fallout be damned.

by Anonymousreply 68June 4, 2017 5:20 PM

I'm not getting it exact as it's been a few years but I'm really close. In one of the interviews with Karla she says "it was hard for me you know. When Paul went out and I had to watch the girls we put on makeup and talked. Became friends. So when it came time to kill them it was very hard on me" You could see the male cop leaning in and looking sympathetic. The female cop is just looking at the ceiling rolling her eyes.

by Anonymousreply 69June 4, 2017 5:23 PM

r69 the male cop is doing his job to keep her talking. The female cop is actually jeopardizing the interview by showing a normal reaction.

If you want to see a textbook serial killer/LEO interview google Russell Williams. That cop was actually an interview specialist. I didn't even know there was such a thing before I saw it.

by Anonymousreply 70June 4, 2017 5:25 PM

Well Karla got EVERYTHING she wanted so it doesn't appear the male cop was doing a great job. I'm not really trying to put down males or their roles in law enforcement. It's more a comment on the human psyche. Just like women can fall for the bad guy on the motorcycle because he's just MISUNDERSTOOD. Though all the men can see right through him. That's what I meant.

by Anonymousreply 71June 4, 2017 5:32 PM

Her post jail interview- the only one she ever gave- was interesting because you can see that she is intelligent, assertive and confident. She's an attractive woman with a certain amount of charisma.

At the very end of the interview she expresses remorse and a desire to atone and she is very convincing! I think she does regret what she did to her sister, but I as far as the other victims? I doubt she thinks about them.

The interview is in French (with subtitles) and her pronunciation is just awful!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 72June 4, 2017 7:13 PM

Meh. That interview is so unnerving. She didn't learn a thing, is playing victim again, and just learned better words and psych memes to convince people. "I did all my programs." What fucking program is it exactly that taught you not to kill your sister? And she wasn't a model prisoner.

by Anonymousreply 73June 4, 2017 7:32 PM

You gotta give her props though for the whole, "there are many kinds of prisons, I will always be imprisoned internally for the crimes I have committed " part of the interview (in part 2). I'm not quoting verbatim, but pretty close. Performance convaincante, Karla!

by Anonymousreply 74June 4, 2017 7:52 PM

R65/R67 have some deep seated issues with men.

by Anonymousreply 75June 4, 2017 7:57 PM

R75 must have some issues with women.

Karla is showing standard behavior for a psychopath. They know what to do to get their way.

I see it all the time. Men fall for a con artist woman because she has a big rack or blonde hair and a pretty face.

You don't think women who look like Karla have it all figured out long before they reach adulthood, from Daddy's Little Girl to the girl who has her boyfriends wrapped around her little finger? You should look at Karla's wedding pictures. She is dressed and staged like Cinderella at the ball. Like a princess. Straight guys eat this shit up. They think they're "so lucky," when in reality every woman for miles around can see the men are being played by a cynical, hard, psychopath that doesn't give a shit about them and is laughing at them behind their backs. And the men are pussyblind and can't see it.

It's like these women project pheromones at these guys and they lose their minds. It does seem similar to women that fall for bad boys, so maybe these people really can project pheromones or something. People wreck their lives following these people around like puppy dogs and doing whatever they say like a zombie.

But when Karla met Paul, she met her match. Somebody she couldn't fool, but who could meet her at her own game. That must have been an incredible high for her. Psychopaths just care about their own gratification and nothing else. They were gratifying each other.

Look at the dead eyes in this picture. And this is supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She's dead inside.

by Anonymousreply 76June 4, 2017 9:07 PM

Forgot to mention, six months before the wedding picture at R76, Karla murdered and helped rape her own sister. It's six months later in that picture.

Here's a picture of Karla's wedding carriage. Boy, they sure look like they're mourning her sister's death, don't they?

by Anonymousreply 77June 4, 2017 9:20 PM

R76 good post, I agree with everything you've said. She is cold, all she cared about was herself and her partner. No one else mattered in their world

Also if I remember rightly she was badly battered by Bernando at the end of the relationship and that was another factor which helped her to get such a light sentence. It made it easier to portray herself as another one of his victims, a wife who was manipulated by her controlling violent husband into participating in crime. Not true, she had ample opportunity to save all the victims but did nothing to help them, nothing at all.

As far as I'm concerned their relationship was a perfect storm, 2 psychopaths found each other. And to the poster who wishes vengeance to be visited on her children, that's not nice. Not nice at all. They are individual human beings who have done nothing wrong.

Sad to hear her parents have forgiven her. I suppose the truth must be too painful to bear.

by Anonymousreply 78June 4, 2017 9:59 PM

shout-out for Oskar Homolka

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 79June 4, 2017 10:10 PM

R78, I think Paul beating Karla was some type of extension of his psychopathy, they weren't killing people then if I recall so he was beating her to let off steam. It wasn't just a battering husband. It was a frustrated murderer.

I think the murders escalated his appetite for violence and when nobody else was available, he took it out on her. In a way, I don't think he could control himself by that time. He was deep in the throes of a psychotic break.

by Anonymousreply 80June 4, 2017 10:46 PM

The book Invisible Darkness goes into their kinkiness, that has been glossed over, outside of the murders. They used to like to hire black prostitutes for karla to fuck around with while paul watched and filmed.

by Anonymousreply 81June 4, 2017 10:55 PM

She went from being murderer to being a frau.

by Anonymousreply 82June 4, 2017 11:36 PM

Her eyes say it all. She is scary AF and her parents are traitors to their dead daughter!

by Anonymousreply 83June 4, 2017 11:47 PM

It's likely the parents are psychopaths too. Their reaction after Karla's trial, of throwing her a big "going away (to prison)" party was weird and sick.

People close to the family were appalled.

by Anonymousreply 104June 5, 2017 2:05 PM

exactly r43, if she were a native woman or some other non-white minority she would be rotting in jail today.

r94 the problem was that no one would be charged with the murders of Mahaffy and French in order for both killers to go to jail forever, as was appropriate. This is common in serial killer cases for various reasons, some good, some not so much.

Remember, the case started out as kidnappings, so the families were closer to the LEOs than a straight murder investigation. There was talk that the victims' families had too much say in the process, and that was a product of the relationship between the families and the investigators.

The deal would have been scrutinized, too, because it would've been obvious that had the police taken the rapes and Tammy's death seriously the girls would be alive. No one wanted to go there, especially since it would focus attention on the Canadian underbelly of violence and murder against women. There were a lot of ambitious LEOs who knew they could make their careers on it, too. Think OJ, but in Canada.

The Crown had to approve the deal, and that involved a lot of politicians who wouldn't do anything that would look like they were soft on crime, or disrespectful to the victims families, even though it was in the best interests of public safety, which was really their job.

by Anonymousreply 106June 5, 2017 2:25 PM

In addition to what r106 posted, there was a specific problem in the Mahaffy situation. I'm not sure the press made much of it, or as much of it as they could have, but local word of mouth was quite vicious. It was believed that if there was no conviction in her murder, Leslie Mahaffy's mother would be perceived as partially responsible for locking her out of the house. Mahaffy's parents presented a united front but even within the family there were recriminations.

This part might be urban legend but apparently friends of the Mahaffys took the mother to a church service in another nearby town, trying to be helpful. Turns out the sermon was about "tough love" and the Mahaffy family was discussed as a cautionary tale.

by Anonymousreply 107June 5, 2017 3:16 PM

I don't understand Karla's parents unless one of them was a psychopath as well. Psychopaths show very visible signs as kids, so they must have known Karla was evil.

by Anonymousreply 108June 5, 2017 4:21 PM

What are you talking about r93? The Canadian gov't didn't pay any money for plastic surgery.

by Anonymousreply 109June 5, 2017 4:23 PM

That's not true r100. It was the decision of the Crown to destroy the tapes.

Karla's sister in law/lawyer had nothing to do with defending Karla during the trial. She didn't even become Karla's lawyer until towards the end of her sentence.

by Anonymousreply 110June 5, 2017 4:28 PM

R107 "This part might be urban legend but apparently friends of the Mahaffys took the mother to a church service in another nearby town, trying to be helpful. Turns out the sermon was about "tough love" and the Mahaffy family was discussed as a cautionary tale."

I would love it if that were true. I feel for the Mahaffys in that they suffered the worst punishment possible for the stupid mistake they made, but seriously how big an asshole do you have to be to lock your 14 year old child out of the house for coming home late from a friend's WAKE?!

I can't even imagine how the friends who walked her home and left after she assured them she would be able to get into the house must feel.

by Anonymousreply 111June 5, 2017 7:22 PM

Leslie could have gotten in right away if she'd knocked and woken up her mother (who understandably didn't want to let her sneak in), but she wanted to avoid the confrontation. She went to call a friend on a pay phone to ask if she could sleep there instead of facing the music at home---her friend's mom said no. She met Paul, as he was casing cars, on her way back.

Although Leslie certainly didn't deserve to suffer and die like that, she was apparently a bratty and rebellious kid (based on some of the books I've read on this case, anyway). She could have come home on time and she could have knocked on the door so her mother would let her in. She made some crappy decisions that night and unfortunately it cost her.

by Anonymousreply 112June 5, 2017 7:34 PM

Bratty 14 year old too scared to wake up mom at 2am vs. mom locking the door on her 14 year old to teach her a "lesson." I'm siding with the 14 year old.

Hopefully the church that taught this as a cautionary tale got through to some thick heads.

Personally, I am against the death penalty. Yet there are video tapes and audio recordings that these two sickos had, showing them both actively, and enthusiastically participating in the repeated sexual assaults, torture, and murders of two young girls, not including Karla's little sister, Tammi. So that being said, there is no doubt that they committed these crimes. Both of these people deserve to spend the rest of their lives in jail, at the very least.

Did the school administration ever sit down and read the transcripts of the assault and torture perpetrated upon the victims? Because if they had, there is no way in hell that they would even allow this woman anywhere near their campus.

The disgusting creep who decided to marry this psychopath leaves me without words. How any man can marry this woman and reproduce with her, makes me question what the fuck has happened to common sense.

Karla Homolka DESERVES to have a bullet right between the eyes. If she was not to serve her natural life behind bars, then she should be denied her natural life, just as she denied life to three girls, including one who loved her, looked up to her, and had no idea that her very own sister would murder her.

She's a piece of shit and I hope she's taken out.

by Anonymousreply 117June 6, 2017 12:32 AM

The medical reports back up that Karla was probably the killer but they were ignored. Both girls were strangled from behind with a cord while the killer put their knee in the back for leverage and pulled. The report says the knee print on the back were too small to be Paul's.

R121, I saw some of the movie (it was creepy and bad) and as I recall it made Karla look like a victim, so this whole thread is very enlightening to me. She should be killed.

And R112, you're the worst.

by Anonymousreply 123June 6, 2017 1:36 AM

The Media and The Crown liked to spin Karla as the girl next door gone bad. The whole narrative for her was how could this sweet, girl next door, do this? Be pushed into this? Karla was never the sweet girl next door. She was a goth type in High School, she was a bully, she killed animals when she was younger, she saved some of their skeletons. Her family was a mess. Her mother was a bisexual nut trying to always arrange threesomes for her and her husband. Her father was a drunk. Karla was the domineering force in her home that everyone was afraid of. No Karla was never the sweet girl next door.

by Anonymousreply 124June 6, 2017 1:45 AM

Surprised no one asked what the hell NDG is.

by Anonymousreply 125June 6, 2017 1:54 AM

I remember when I visited the courthouse, they were about to bring out Bernardo. I admit I got scared but when he came out... he was well dressed and looked - dare I say it - handsome. It was kind of surreal. Homolka, on the other hand, presented herself as cunning, assertive, defensive and snarky on the stand. No wilting flower there. I can only imagine what she was like in every day life.

Interesting that both the Bernardo and O.J. Simpson trials took place over the course of 1995. With O.J. he eventually went to prison (because of the Vegas incident) but Homolka has never really paid for her crimes and in Canada, it's still a source of contention. The Bernardo/Homolka case is one many Canadians try to forget even though at the time it was constantly front page news. I think the luridness and grisliness of the crimes are an obvious reason, but I think also because Homolka roams free, it's a reminder of the systematic failure to keep one of Canada's most notorious killers in jail. Every five years or so, she ends up on the cover of either the Toronto Sun or Toronto Star with a new update about her life, and the outrage begins again. And then it all quietens down again.

by Anonymousreply 126June 6, 2017 1:59 AM

I feel bad for her kids. I can't imagine what kind of shit those poor children go through, every time someone discovers their mom's true identity. I wish them no harm, and I hope that none of them inherited their mother's psychopathy.

Can you imagine how the parents of Leslie and Kristin must feel, knowing that this woman is walking around, living her life as if though she never even knew their daughters?

And again, how can someone ever even consider marrying and reproducing with this woman? How can her husband ever be at peace? Doesn't he worry that she'll slit his throat one night, or worse, that she is absolutely capable of killing their children?

I wonder if her husband is a sexual predator/pedophile? It would be the only explanation that really makes sense. He married her so that they could sexually abuse their own children. I know that sounds heinous, but why else would a person marry this monster? A normal, well adjusted individual would never seek out a partner such as Karla, to start a family with. He waited for her for 12 years. Something is deeply troubling about her husband. He's fucked up. Sane, good people, do not marry Karla Homolka.

by Anonymousreply 131June 6, 2017 9:38 AM

R131, LEO have viewed those tapes. The Crown still gave her the original deal, previously offered before viewing the tapes.

And btw, I've never viewed them, but I've read the transcripts, and have listened to some. I could not endure listening, because honestly, it was too much. Reading them is bad enough. It's the kind of shit that changes something inside of you, once you are exposed to that sort of thing.

Karla Homolka is a serial predator, and a serial killer, plain and simple. She should have never stepped back out of prison. She deserves one right to the head, and 2 in the chest for good measure. I have no qualms about coming to that conclusion. A person like her does NOT feel remorse, and is incapable of changing for the better. Her volunteering at her children's school is absolute proof of that.

by Anonymousreply 132June 6, 2017 1:45 PM

R132 could you link the transcripts?

by Anonymousreply 133June 6, 2017 3:50 PM

I wonder if Karla is the one that killed the girls, because she was secretly jealous that Paul had sex with them, or that he wanted to. Her way of punishing them for taking was "hers," maybe?

Paul was a rapist before, so I'm guessing she is a psychopath that didn't care what he did to other people. She just wanted him, and wanted to get rid of anyone that stood in her way. And Paul probably thought it was sexy that she was so aggressive, and thought by beating her he was "taming the shrew."

by Anonymousreply 134June 6, 2017 5:46 PM

I think she killed them so they couldn't report him. She was the practical one.

by Anonymousreply 135June 6, 2017 6:35 PM

Why doesn't she dye her hair a different color?

by Anonymousreply 136June 6, 2017 6:48 PM

For everyone insisting Paul was "just" a rapist and likely Karla the murderer and thus worse, a few things:

Paul's rapes were brutal and sadistic. They involved torture and vicious beatings. Some victims were stabbed or cut (at least one was bitten with skin torn) and the assaults often lasted between 30 minutes to two hours. It's pure luck that some of his victims didn't die.

Although not convicted for it, Paul is believed to have murdered at least one women without Karla. The woman's boyfriend was convicted but that was later overturned when enough evidence was presented to link the woman's rape and murder to the Scarborough rapist. (As an aside, another man convicted of rape also had his conviction overturned when evidence was presented that linked the crime to the Scarborough rapist.)

Karla was the one to call 911 when their Jane Doe rape victim lost consciousness. She called off the ambulance when they revived her.

Both Karla and Paul were administered the "Psychopathy Checklist" (it's much more sophisticated than the name makes it sound). His scoring for psychopathy was near-perfect and close to Ted Bundy's score. Her score was very low.

The whole nature of Karla and Paul's relationship was that she was to "please" him. It's just not likely she did anything without his express consent/cooperation or that would have upset him. Especially killing off his "toys." If she killed the women, he either ordered it, did it with her, or at least approved of it.

To be clear I am NOT saying I believe Karla's story or that I think her punishment was fair. She got off way too easy and she is utterly vile. But it's straight up bizarre and disturbing to see people suggesting that she's MORE dangerous than him. No way. She might commit similar crimes, and very likely will if she has or meets another "match." But if he were released, he absolutely would serial/sadistic rape and likely kill again.

r138 Notre Dame De Grace the neighbourhood where she had her kids.

by Anonymousreply 141June 6, 2017 7:50 PM

I'm re-reading "Invisible Darkness" and r137 is spot on.

I'd forgotten so much about what they did. Paul was completely compulsively out of control. He had been a violent rapist for years before he met Karla. The intensity and frequency of his crimes was continually increasing. He should have been put down like rabid dog.

That said, Karla's crimes were repulsive and evil. She went above and beyond the call of duty in assisting Paul in his perversions.

by Anonymousreply 142June 6, 2017 8:03 PM

R137, the only reason why Karla is currently more dangerous than Paul, is because Paul is behind bars, while Karla is out in the free world, volunteering at her kids' school to supervise other children while out on field trips, inviting children over to her house for cookies, and walking children home from school with her cute dog.

Karla should have never been allowed to be around children ever again, including her own.

Also, I understand being in a situation where one is negatively influenced by others. Peer pressure is common. While I would never categorize Paul's influence on Karla as peer pressure, I would also say that I believe that Karla never needed much convincing from Paul, in order to rape and kill other women.

Most people would not be able to even think of doing the shit Karla did. For a minute, imagine falling madly in love with someone. Now imagine that your lover suggests drugging and raping your kid sister. Imagine agreeing to do it, and stealing animal sedatives or anesthetics from your place of employment, in order to do it. Imagine making sure your sister got pretty buzzed off the drinks you made her.

Karla was in complete and utter control when she and Paul raped and murdered Tammi. The rape and murder happened in Karla's home, the alcohol used to get her sister buzzed was given to Tammi from Karla, the sedative used to completely knock Tammi out, and eventually kill her, was stolen by Karla from the vet's office where she worked. Lastly, Paul was in the Homolka residence on that Christmas Eve, due to Karla's invitation.

If Paul was strongly influencing Karla, Karla still could have, at any one of these events listed above, done the right thing. She could have broken up with Paul, she could have confided in her parents, she could have told her sister, she could have told a trusted friend, or she could have called the police. She did none of these things. She actively engaged in the premeditated and planned sexual assault of her little sister, who she may or may not have killed accidentally. Karla is 100% responsible for Tammi's rape and death.

So now, I'm supposed to believe that Karla acted out of fear for her life, and coercion from Paul in regards to the other murdered girls? Umm, NO.

I don't care what anybody here thinks. Killing another human being is something that most of us are not capable of, unless it was done in self defense. And even then, that is extremely difficult. The majority of the population does not have the emotional and mental capacity that is required to kill another human being. They just don't. They don't even have the ability to be complicit in the act. It is THE biggest deal, of all deals. It is the line that no one wants to cross, or will.

Karla crossed that line a minimum of three times that we know of.

R133, no, I cannot.

Karla in the transcript talks about 13 year olds being a "good age" for fucking. Also talks about wishing she had four kids with Paul so she could watch him fuck them.

Makes you wonder whats going on behind closed doors with her new husband and their three kids.

by Anonymousreply 150June 6, 2017 9:24 PM

R143, you seem to know what you are talking about, so would you mind it if I asked you if Karla could have suffered from a combination of histrionic/narcissistic and dependent personality disorders?

This would have made her vulnerable to the more callous and evil Paul, and would explain her pathological need to please him, her jealousy and anger against other women who "overshadowed" her even for a moment (she herself recognized that she was angry at Tammy because she drove her boyfriend's attention away from herself), as well as her need to present herself in the most positive light possible at all times, her disregard for everyone's needs but her own, and the defiant arrogance that she is said to have displayed during the trial, when she apparently had a "this is MY moment" attitude.

I also watched that Fifth Estate program about her on YouTube (thank you to the person who uploaded it), and I cannot believe that anyone fell for her "I am a wounded little baby bird" charade - especially her lawyer, who presented notes that showed what a scheming liar and cold, stone-hearted monster she is. All the people involved in the case even admitted that she selectively "forgot" to mention certain things or downright lied about them, only mentioning them when it was convenient for her in some way, and yet they all cynically said that she was a victim and they had done nothing wrong by letting her get away with murder.

Also, what I found most repugnant was when she was filmed by the police in the house that she shared with Paul, explaining to them what they did to their victims in each room with a whiny baby voice and dressed like a schoolgirl, but then interrupted her narrative to ask them if they could be careful not to damage the furniture and to casually mention that she wanted to take away perfume samples and clothes and other things that she liked, or her sister had asked for. Unbelievable. How could anyone believe that this woman was innocent?

And then when she was being interrogated by the police and said in a baby voice "oh, I left Paul alone with Leslie and he broke one of these expensive French champagne glasses and that made me so angry", ignoring the fact that he had been torturing and raping that little girl. Or when she said that "we had kidnapped these girls and it worried me that, after the weekend, I'd have to go back to work and they could escape and cause problems, so we had to kill them", my jaw dropped to the floor... HOW COULD THIS WOMAN BE SEEN AS A VICTIM BY ANYONE? Even before they could watch those tapes in which her bastard of a husband and her did all those unspeakable things, LEOs should have realized that they were not talking to a poor battered woman. This is an evil narcissist through and through.

But what is most baffling is how there was a clause in her plea deal that stipulated that if it was found that she had purposefully harmed anyone, the entire agreement would be cancelled, and yet everyone fought tooth and nail to prevent it from being applied even AFTER they saw how she happily participated in the torture, rape and murder of three girls, and confessed to abusing a fourth one... UNBELIEVABLE.

This is not only a case of two evil people doing horrible things, but also a case of a bunch of incompetent imbeciles allowing a depraved woman to get an undeservedly lenient sentence and a lot of protection, based on their own personal prejudices and preconceptions. These people should, at the very least, lose their jobs - especially after they happily confessed to their misdeeds on national television with effing smiles.

In all seriousness, this is a case the severity of which beggars belief - especially because LEO and the judiciary decided to behave capriciously at the expense of several lives, and countless women being raped.

by Anonymousreply 151June 6, 2017 9:40 PM

R148, because Kristin's mother made a public plea years back, asking that the memory of her daughter, and the other victims, be respected, by not proliferating the contents of the videotapes, and audio tapes.

I see that someone posted the alleged transcripts, so read away. I haven't opened the link, so I'm not sure if those are all of the transcripts, or part of them. Regardless, what those poor girls went through is unforgivable, and what I read left me with no doubt that Karla knew exactly what she was doing.

It is beyond appalling that this woman is walking around, married, with children of her own. That's why I am very skeptical about the character of her current husband. No man or woman in their right mind would marry this woman and have kids with her. No fucking way.

by Anonymousreply 152June 6, 2017 9:48 PM

Karla: Deal with the Devil was written by the same man as Invisible Darkness... Both fantastic reads

by Anonymousreply 153June 6, 2017 10:02 PM

R151, was Karla personality disordered? Probably.

I think that Karla is the rare female serial predator/killer. I think that Karla would have eventually killed someone, whether Paul had come into her life or not. Paul gave her a partner in crime, and it extended her pathology, so that it took on a sexual predator form, in addition to her predisposition to kill.

I firmly believe that Karla would have eventually murdered someone left to her own devices. I could easily imagine Karla poisoning a friend, or her husband, or even a coworker. If someone had become an antagonist to her, I believe Karla's solution would have been murder. The sexual component only came to be, because of Paul.

by Anonymousreply 154June 6, 2017 10:08 PM

R143, your post has been removed. Can you summarize what you said for those of us who were late to the thread?

Also, Karla and Paul both had aliases with the last name of "Teale". Does anybody know the significance of the name? Is either Karla or Paul still using a Teale alias? I believe they came up with these names after they were caught, and it shows a continuing connection between the two people. I wonder how close they still are?

God bless those kids of hers. I'm really concerned about them, especially after reading that she wanted to reproduce with Paul, and why. Psycho bitch. They made my skin crawl in the 90s, and they still do.

R155, I can still see my post. Perhaps you have me blocked? Lol. I go NUTS when posting about my hatred for all things Trump, so it wouldn't be the first time I got blocked.

About the name "Teale", I know that Karla was using that as her surname before she and her 2nd husband and kids moved to their current home.

Below is my post at r243: [R137], the only reason why Karla is currently more dangerous than Paul, is because Paul is behind bars, while Karla is out in the free world, volunteering at her kids' school to supervise other children while out on field trips, inviting children over to her house for cookies, and walking children home from school with her cute dog.

by Anonymousreply 162June 6, 2017 11:32 PM

It doesn't actually matter which one physically murdered the victims. Both were present, both were involved, neither did anything to prevent the murders, therefore both are equally guilty.

I agree with R156. Karla should never be allowed anywhere near children again. Her children should have been removed from her at birth and placed in the care of social services. What kind of parent even thinks of giving their own child up for sexual abuse? A sick unfit one.

Children of serial killers and sexual predators often suffer horribly themselves. Look at the children of Fred and Rosemary West.

Come to think of it, Karla is the equivalent of Rose West and Myra Hindley, though thankfully with fewer victims. I don't know if there are any examples of American female killers in the same category.

by Anonymousreply 163June 6, 2017 11:34 PM

R143, I don't disagree with anything you've posted. I don't believe Karla raped and murdered with Paul out of fear of her life (although she may have been in such fear by the time she left him). My issue was with what I perceive as an attitude among several posters that Paul was "bad" but Karla was "really super bad." You simply cannot read up on his crimes and conclude that she was worse than him or that she's the real murderer.

I think she should still be in prison and most definitely not anywhere near children. But Paul absolutely was a murderer in addition to being a sadistic serial rapist. Don't mitigate him to attack her.

R151, Scores on certain sections of the Psychopathy Checklist are indicators of various personality disorders. So someone could have a low-score for psychopathy but still show indicators of personality disorders. I don't know the specifics of Karla's score, other than it was 5/40 (Paul's was 35/40, Ted Bundy's was 39/40, Aileen Wurnos was 32/40) but it could have shown she exhibited signs of NPD for example.

Thank you, [R143]/[R156] for reposting. I reloaded the thread, and your post at R143 mysteriously reappeared.

It is spooky that Karla used the Teale alias so long after the murders, and after she got out of prison. She must have still felt a connection to Paul or wanted a connection to Paul.

by Anonymousreply 165June 6, 2017 11:45 PM

R149 Thank you! See R143 ! that's how people share!

by Anonymousreply 166June 6, 2017 11:47 PM

Paul also self-published some kind of violent book that was on Amazon until public outrage made them remove it. He's also eligible for parole again soon, but no way he'll get it.

by Anonymousreply 167June 6, 2017 11:48 PM

R153 What respect for her daughter? respect that Karla is still roaming free? The public, social workers, ..etc. MUST KNOW what happened in order to prevent such crimes from happening in the future. Maybe if Canadians saw what actually happened, the right course of justice will put her back into jail!

by Anonymousreply 168June 6, 2017 11:51 PM

Paul's rap songs dedicated to karla that he videotaped were at one point on YouTube. They've all disappeared or at least I can't find them anymore. They were fucking HYSTERICAL.

by Anonymousreply 169June 6, 2017 11:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 171June 6, 2017 11:57 PM

I'm pretty sure that segments of his rambling, whiny, ridiculous "suicide tapes" (which he made after Karla left him, begging her to come back), are still on YouTube somewhere... I'll link them later if I can find them, along with snippets of his shirty rapping.

It's possible I'm guilty of that.

Your perception doesn't necessarily match the intent. Back then there was always someone ready to say "that poor girl!" and it usually indicated someone who didn't know much about the case. by Anonymousreply 178June 7, 2017 12:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 179June 7, 2017 12:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 181June 7, 2017 2:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 182June 7, 2017 3:41 AM

Canada doesn't have double jeopardy. But Homolka won't be retried because of her deal with the Crown. That is who bears responsibility here.

by Anonymousreply 183June 7, 2017 3:46 AM

People like her and Manson live forever.

by Anonymousreply 184June 7, 2017 3:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 185June 7, 2017 3:58 AM

R183, Canada prohibits double jeopardy. It's in their Constitution, Section 11(h) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

by Anonymousreply 186June 7, 2017 4:12 AM

thanks R183! So there could be a chance for a retrial?

by Anonymousreply 187June 7, 2017 4:18 AM

Nice going, R183. Your misinformation brought the stupid back.

by Anonymousreply 188June 7, 2017 4:20 AM

R183 is right but Homolka was given a deal and it can't be changed now.

by Anonymousreply 189June 7, 2017 4:23 AM

What is it with people just making shit up? The Canadian Constitution explicitly says "Any person charged with an offence has the right... if finally acquitted of the offence, not to be tried for it again and, if finally found guilty and punished for the offence, not to be tried or punished for it again"

THAT'S PROHIBITION OF DOUBLE JEOPARDY. Homolka was found guilty and was punished. That it was pursuant to a deal makes no difference.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 190June 7, 2017 4:33 AM

No r184, double jeopardy in Canada is in being tried for an offence for which the accused has already been punished. There are lots of cases of being found not guilty, having that appealed, and a new trial ordered. Restrictions now exist though on being tried within a reasonable time. That has lead to many lesser crimes being dropped. Until the Harper government introduced mandatory minimum sentences, most of those cases were plead down. Now, there is no reason not to take a risk.

Homolka's case can't be reopened r187. I haven't seen it but I think the Crown was out lawyered.

I've posted a link to the leading case on double jeopardy in Canadian jurisprudence.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 191June 7, 2017 4:33 AM

Homolka was charged with two counts of manslaughter. Were it not for the plea bargain, theoretically she could have been charged with a third count. I assume the Crown agreed to drop that in its plea.

The Crown also could have applied to have her declared a dangerous offender, though it is difficult. I assume they agreed not to do so, or didn't believe the application would succeed.

by Anonymousreply 192June 7, 2017 4:39 AM

Well, there are lots of things the Crown can and should have done that they didn't. But that doesn't change the fact that they don't get a do-over now. The time to correct their error was before she served her sentence.

by Anonymousreply 193June 7, 2017 4:46 AM

What was weird was that she was released with no restrictions whatsoever. They know what she did, right?

by Anonymousreply 194June 7, 2017 4:53 AM

R194, there were restrictions when she was released. But she appealed (because she's so remorseful) and they were overturned.

Paul's second lawyer, John Rosen, had the videotapes dumped on him shortly after he took over from Murray. No one had been really sure they existed before then. He sat down and watched the tapes then went to the bathroom and cried.

Paul had revealed the hiding spot of the videos because he wanted them to be shown, as they made it obvious Karla was no victim and seemed just as enthusiastic as he was in the whole evil affair.

by Anonymousreply 200June 7, 2017 8:10 PM

R196, you really think only relatives of Karla are capable of reading and comprehending the Canadian constitution?

by Anonymousreply 201June 7, 2017 8:52 PM

From listening to R198's link I just learned that Karla wrote a letter to a friend bitching that her parents weren't contributing as much money to her wedding as planned because of the cost of her sister's funeral. Holy shit, there is just no bottom to her evil.

by Anonymousreply 202June 7, 2017 9:13 PM

Karla is nothing if not consistent. She's a psychopath through and through.

by Anonymousreply 203June 7, 2017 9:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 205June 7, 2017 10:08 PM

R169/R170, snippets of those rap videos are in R198's link. Starting around 27:30.

by Anonymousreply 206June 7, 2017 10:43 PM

That's another thing that clearly and unmistakably points to what a sociopath Karla is. She had a fairytale, princess wedding, 6 months after raping and killing her little sister. She really thought nothing of it. For Karla, it was just another day, and in the past.

I mean, I know that I'd have a very difficult time having an elaborate marital ceremony so soon after a loved one's death. I wouldn't be much in the mood for celebrating. But not Karla! She went for the whole thing.

She basically did the same thing by volunteering at her kids' school. She had no thought or consideration as to how her past crimes could affect other parents, other kids, or even her kids. It was as if she had gone to jail for stealing a candy bar, rather than multiple rapes and murders.

R200, I believe that 100%. What they did to those two little girls was gruesome. And it went on for days. And those girls are crying throughout. They're in pain, they're terrified, and all they want is for the whole ordeal to be over, so that they can go home. They never got to do that.

I wonder if her current husband has ever listened to those tapes, or read those transcripts.

by Anonymousreply 207June 8, 2017 12:13 AM

Which one said "some things are worth dying for" when she finally refused to be cooperative anymore.?

by Anonymousreply 208June 8, 2017 1:19 AM

Kristen said that, according to Karla.

by Anonymousreply 209June 8, 2017 1:53 AM

R207 he probably jacked off to them. I honestly think Karla still had the videos somewhere, for keepsake.

by Anonymousreply 210June 8, 2017 2:12 AM

Karla was always saying Paul was always beating her. Yet in her twat and tits picture there's not a single bruise on her.

by Anonymousreply 211June 8, 2017 2:16 AM

Karla read a ton of books on "Battered Women Syndrome" leading up to the trial, so she could be more convincing with her bullshit sob story.

When Paul clocked her with the flashlight, giving her raccoon eyes, she left immediately and found a lawyer. She is/was a self-serving, conniving, psycho bitch.

by Anonymousreply 212June 8, 2017 2:21 AM

The flashlight incident was probably the first and last time he actually hit her imo.

by Anonymousreply 213June 8, 2017 2:29 AM

She was practical right up to the very end.

by Anonymousreply 214June 8, 2017 2:32 AM

If Paul and Karla had gotten away with their crimes and had never gone to jail, one of them would have ended up dead. Either he would have killed her, or she would have killed him.

They both had way too much on each other. No way was anyone walking away from that marriage alive.

by Anonymousreply 215June 8, 2017 2:58 AM

Did anyone else notice what a fucking limp dick, flaccid, impotent fucker Paul was? In that video description it sounds like Karla was blowing him and fucking him for a long time and he couldn't come and didn't seem to be hard a lot either. Figures...

by Anonymousreply 216June 8, 2017 3:22 AM

Supposedly he had trouble enjoying nonviolent, consensual sex.

by Anonymousreply 217June 8, 2017 3:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 218June 8, 2017 3:41 AM

She violated the terms of her plea deal on numerous occasions. It was brought to the attention of the Crown, who did nothing about it.

A good PI/writer would look at their itinerary together very closely, especially Buffalo. There were rumours that the authorities never found out about all their crimes. If they took place in the US, American LEOs wouldn't hesitate to investigate a cold case.

by Anonymousreply 219June 8, 2017 3:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 220June 8, 2017 4:09 AM

I have to say, I almost felt a little twinge of sympathy for her years ago when someone found her and posted her whereabouts, but now, seeing as she is so goddamn cocky, and reading those fucking transcripts, I sincerely hope someone puts a pickaxe through her spinal column. I am shocked no one has but the night is young...

by Anonymousreply 221June 8, 2017 4:13 AM

This. Regardless of who was [italic]more[/italic] guilty (which is both a slippery slope, and ultimately futile, argument), they were both complicit. For Karla, this was neither Stockholm Syndrome nor brainwashing bullshit. Like the poster I quoted indicated, there was too much of a knee jerk, "Oh, the poor thing! What a monster he was to make her a murderer! She [bold]must[/bold] be innocent!", reaction from too many people until more evidence was discovered and her presentation and testimony were examined more critically. If anything, for far too long, her level of involvement was minimized (and in some cases, dismissed) by people displacing most of, or all of, the onus onto him.

by Anonymousreply 224June 8, 2017 6:31 AM

R244 I think some people are just reluctant to admit that women can be psychopaths and capable of violent predatory behaviour. Or at least, blonde 'pretty' white women. R233 That would be the best thing, but the whole investigation seems to have been botched. Would there be any evidence now? I think Karla Homolka just got lucky, and she's probably not the only person, male or female , who literally got away with murder.

by Anonymousreply 227June 8, 2017 12:47 PM

R219 Care to explain more? what terms were violated?

by Anonymousreply 228June 8, 2017 12:50 PM

The biggest one was that if it was found that she was responsible for the death of any of the victims the deal would be null and void.

Karla in her taped testimony demonstrated that she held the halothane(sp?) soaked cloth at a safe distance from her sister's face (at least a foot away from Tammy's face). Close enough to keep her knocked out, but not dangerously so. Total lie.

In fact, Karla was seen on the tapes pressing the cloth directly onto her face, nose and mouth throughout the rape. This caused Tammy to vomit and she died from choking on her own vomit.

I guess the argument for not rescinding the deal was they didn't believe Karla [italic]intentionally[/italic] killed her sister.

by Anonymousreply 229June 8, 2017 7:35 PM

For those of you know know about Karla's "early years" and the dynamic within her family of origin: was she *always* hateful towards her little sister (for instance, was it a situation where Karla was jealous of her ever since little sis was first born)?

And did Karla's little sister know that Karla hated her or suspect in any way that her older sister wanted to (or would ever) harm her?

(It's clear from what you guys have posted that this *was* very premeditated--with Karla even stealing the knock out gas from work beforehand...)

by Anonymousreply 230June 9, 2017 12:58 PM

R320, in the book Invisible Darkness the author states that Karla and Paul tried to drug Tammy several times before, and also tried to drug one of her friends. The couple served them drinks flecked with white foam on top, but the girls thought the drinks looked suspicious and didn't drink them. Tammy and a friend even found a bag of white powder in Karla's room, and Tammy confided in a friend that she thought Paul and Karla were trying to poison her. On the Christmas tape, Tammy drinks a laced daiquiri and even says on tape, 'They're trying to poison me,' but no one seemed to hear.

by Anonymousreply 242June 11, 2017 5:51 PM

Nobody picked up on Karla and Paul's weird behavior except for the poor sister & her friend who assumed they were trying to poison her? I can't imagine jumping to the conclusion that someone in my family was trying to poison me, unless there was a lot of highly suspect behavior leading up to that. And how awful if she was trying to tell people around her & they didn't believe her. Poor Tammy never stood a chance.

by Anonymousreply 243June 11, 2017 6:49 PM

r243 yeah, I've always wondered how much people suspected them of simply being... weird. There must have been some signs. Didn't people think it was odd that Paul and Karla were all smiles at their wedding only months after the death of Tammy?

by Anonymousreply 244June 11, 2017 9:07 PM

People who knew Paul were calling the cops on him LONG before he got arrested. The cops just ignored the reports. In fact one of Paul's friends who reported him was arrested on the spot because the thought he was the rapist and was trying to unfairly cast suspicion on Paul. Here's the police artist composite sketch, drawn from victims descriptions. It's sort of like WTF? Had they pursued the leads three teens might still be alive.

Paul Bernardo was an aspiring rapper, and he wrote all of his lyrics down in a little blue book.

This one being his theme song:

I’m young and hype. I get paid to rock the nation. Sometimes I be cool, Sometimes I be chilling. Sometimes I’ll be killing. I’m one in a million. I’ll drain your brain, And steal your chain. I got no remorse. I got no shame. Do or die. Do you ever get caught? Do you ever get caught? Do you ever get caught? No, why? ‘Cause I’m a deadly innocent guy.

by Anonymousreply 247August 21, 2017 4:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 248August 21, 2017 4:07 PM

Wtf? Why compare the two, [R248]? Karla is dangerous and evil all on her own. Period.

She participated in the abduction, rape, prolonged torture (on video tape), and murder of at least 3 teenage girls and was even video taped going down on her own dying teenage sister shortly before she and her husband "finished her off".

Canada did learn from the mistake of letting Homolka slip through the net. A few years ago, two psychos called Terri-Lynne Mclintic and Michael Rafferty abducted, raped and murdered a little girl. Mclintic turned in Rafferty but she didn't get a reduced sentence as Homolka did.

R275, someone on the Facebook page suggested Homolka's protruding forehead and low set ears may be an indication of chromosomal damage. Her mouth is also quite small. The husband and children may also be defective.

I tend to think she loves the attention. She could easily leave the public outings with the kids to the husband. No one would even recognize him.
