OP, You didn't say what style or era of dance you appreciate. However if you go to YouTube and Google Aussie Heat this is one of several performances. After my comp tix I was invited for a drink at a nearby bar to meet all of the fab performers. Men are welcome to see the show which was obviously choreographed by a man.

While there are 47 other choices at the link, you might want to check out his 2016 performance at Fashion Week Milan.

I like all styles as long as it's good.
Classical is easier to appreciate as the canon assures a certain architecture and vocabulary of movement. If it rests too much on that, however, it becomes rather bland.
Modern is trickier. When it is good like Bill T Jones (thank you R3!) or Pina Bausch it is very very good. When it is not so good it is terrible.
The Aussie clip is sexy and exciting but not that appealing to me as dance. A little goes a long way. It's more a physical and erotic appeal.

A scene from 'Romeo and Juliet', with Prokofiev's music and Nureyev himself. Not the best video quality (sorry) but I become entranced by the perfect combination of music and dance. One of my favorite ballets, and this is one of my favorite scenes.

Nicole Scherzinger tango on Dancing with the Stars.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 18, 2017 7:06 AM |
That was captivating R16, grainy quality and all. Thank you.
I did not know that Rudolf Nureyev did choreography. In addition to the blend of music and movement that was also the integration of drama and plot. I also liked the juxtaposition and blend of the group sections on the duets.
And to think that now all we know of the Russians today is the vulgarity of Putin.

Who's that girl dancing with Tommy Tune R21? What fun, thanks.
That put the fun back in dancing, with playful camera movement to match! And love how they accentuated his long legs. Cute face too huh?

R19 wow no words in the setup or after. So light, and beautifully in sync. I didn't know who to watch Astaire or Charisse. Whose choreography? What does one call this style of dance?
And was cinnamon brown a choice color for men's suits then I wonder. There were a few at the party.

For decades I've been trying to find the dance I watched on a tv in the middle of the night back in the 80's. The clip was a group of male and female dancers maybe it was filmed in the 70's or early 80's. All I remember it was being completely hypnotizing to watch. I remember the female dancer dressed in flowy dresses in bright solid primary colors. It was in a contemporary dance style. I was amazed by it.

Khaki-a-go-go is my all time favorite commercial.
The B-52's Funplex video is a fave because of the 60's inspired dance vibe. The chunky mall security guard busting some impressive moves, makes Funplex a dance classic for the ages.

Chills. I got chills. Alex Wong did it for me R12. His athletic and baller training merged spectacularly. Only wish he wore something other than those stupid shorts. Pity.
R39 kung fu as ballet indeed! Chills again, from the overhead shot of the swirling pas de deux! Other parts are like a stylized parkour but set to the throbbing percussion, accentuated by grunts. Bravo filmmaker! Thanks!
Both are good reminders: Dance and athleticism both demand physical strength, rhythm, proportion, timing, grace, and yes beauty.

Thank you R32! A reminder why the great Fred Astaire is the great Fred Astaire. Only masters make it look simple and make you want to dance. As if.
His upper carriage is loose, more relaxed than Eleanor. Her performance is charming, almost schoolgirlish. She seems to be happy. What a pleasure to look at her!
Below the waist, both sets of legs are dynamite.

Betty Grable always considered herself "just a song and dance girl" and I think she was the ultimate one. This is one of my favorite numbers. Not just for her fabulously staged entrance, but also that she does the tap portion in wedgies.

Eldergays, is this where Michael Bennett stole his choreography for "Turkey Lurkey Time" from?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | May 30, 2017 6:03 AM |
Where's that from R99? It was campier than a platoon of gay Boy Scouts! The orientalist mashup was amusing and then actually quite impressive. Do you know who was the choreographer? Unusual percussion too.
I'd never heard of Dolores Gray before this. Thank you! She had this toothy look that reminded me of who now I'm trying to think. Did she do her own singing? And which one/who was Jack Cole?

Dear lord in gay heaven. I almost creamed my PJs watching the flamenco boys R67. I was like, Fuck me. Now.
I love flamenco but without the fierce women was something else. Don't get me wrong; the female dancers are always fabulous but the Great Gay God in the Sky will understand.
The men. The men. I hereby decree Spaniards are the hottest for all time. The low slung jeans. They must be all going commando, si? And the heels. The heels. Why can't we have men's high heels in fashion? Please, Jimmy Choo. I'm looking at you. The flash of pits. Sweaty surely? The staccato moves like bursts of gunfire. Only the Slavic high kicks threw me a bit. But not enough to not detract from grading a hot hot A.
Gracias R67. Mucho gracias.

Steve Martin and Gilda Radner Dancing in the Dark
by Anonymous | reply 125 | May 31, 2017 5:32 AM |
I believe the Steve Martin-Gilda Radner number was called "Happy Feet." It was replayed on SNL as a memorial to Gilda shortly after she died, introduced by Martin who was visibly choked up.

R122 Love her to death as an actress but Barbara Stanwyck can't dance at all can she? It's fun though. The Gene Krupa Band was great. One sax player was cute.
The lead singer was a dead (oops) ringer for Princess Diana R130. Performances were cheerful but wooden.
R131 Wonderful to see some Bollywood. Enjoyable for sure. Thanks! The lead dancer singer is a stunner; actually all the girls were pretty fabulous. But I could've done with less bump and grind.
The two guys were greasy looking and couldn't dance to save their lives. Anyway ones eyes were on the beauty
With a big group dance like that I'd have expected better camera work with steadicam and shit, and imaginative lighting to bring out the explosions of color. Both were flat.
Anyone know of some good Busby Berkeley?

In this 2005 film/documentary, the little boy featured in it is Wilson Castillo; he and his family recently immigrated from Puerto Rico to NYC. To learn English, its new social culture, and to make new friends, he enrolls in Ballroom Dancing with other NYC inner city children.
To derive your heart's maximum enjoyment of this clip, pay close attention to his and his (second) partner's dance sequence, especially the look he gives her at the 1:56 mark. (He has a crush on her, "Melissa.") He didn't learn this special look from anybody, it's all him, at 10 years of age.
Enjoy!

Thank you R139. That was spectacular I'm sure R137 will agree.
The entrance reminded me of Pina Bausch sonehow. The rest is Hollywood magic. The angled camera. The camera angles. Hey even the shot of dancing soles from below!
But what happened to the song? Wasnt there one? The one used for donkeys years donkey years ago for that hotel on 8th in the 50s?
And here's another spectacular one that followed it on youtube I stayed on to watch. This Busby fellow must've loved kaleidoscopes as a boy. I should thank you for that too I guess! The girls are so pretty. I wonder if any of them became grandmothers of any DLers? Idle thought...
