I just saw some perfume commercial of hers. I just don't get the appeal.
I don't get it either.

She's an English film actress.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 12, 2017 4:49 AM |
You're mostly all gay men here. Of course you don't get it.
And you don't need to.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 12, 2017 5:00 AM |
Don't worry. I've come along to take her place and I'm way more appealing.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 12, 2017 5:00 AM |
Stumped here, as well. Plus when she talks she looks like she's got a set of floating dentures competing with her tongue to make noise.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 12, 2017 5:01 AM |
I finally got around to watching Seeking A Friend for the End of the World this week and thought she was delightful. Also watched her in London Boulevard a couple of days before. And she was very good in Begin Again which I hated the first time I tried to watch it then loved when I gave it a second try. Likewise with Last Night. For some reason, some people loathe her but I think she's cool. I'll take her over the one-note Emma Stone and her ilk any day.

by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 12, 2017 5:18 AM |

She's a teeth talker
A bottom teeth talker
She must show her bottom teeth when speaking. Keeley Hawes, too.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 12, 2017 5:21 AM |
She has a beautiful face and looked amazing in the first Pirates of the Carribean movie. She is not to proud to play supporting roles and lives in the UK thus she avoids bad press. What's not to like?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 12, 2017 5:28 AM |
I don't think she's pretty at all.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 12, 2017 5:32 AM |
Knightley in Cronenberg's Dangerous Method is possibly one of the worst performances recorded on a film:
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 12, 2017 5:41 AM |
^ on film.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 12, 2017 5:41 AM |
She's a beautiful, talented actress, that's why.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 12, 2017 5:42 AM |
I think she's both beautiful and photogenic.
I also think she's a TERRIBLE actress, particularly in the historical roles in which she seems to specialize. Not only can she be laughably bad, as in "A Dangerous Method", or more often, weak and without any sense of history. She started her career playing the modern-type girl in a historical setting in those stupid "Pirates" films, and kept at it even when she was supposed to be an 18th century duchess or Lizzie Bennett or someone who lives and breathes another era.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 12, 2017 7:51 AM |
I thought she was okay in Atonement. Just okay.
I've been sick of her face ever since Bend It Like Beckham. Remember the promotional art for that movie, with her mouth agape in a celebratory cheer, with the brown-skinned girl and the soccer ball? And the tag line "The movie that has Americans dancing in the aisles!" Fuck off.
Plus I know a lot of dorky straight guys who think she's adorable or sexy or something. I get the impression she's supposed to be the new Audrey Hepburn to those people.
One thing that's great about her, however, is she's an outspoken atheist. I think that's wonderful.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 12, 2017 8:47 AM |
She's cuter than the girl next door, but seems like the girl next door. Many straight guys want her as she's pretty but relatable (and doesn't seem high-maintenance); many straight girls would love to have her confidence, composure, and beauty.
When it comes to perfume ads, I find Natalie Portman more baffling. The ads themselves, and why she's in them. However, I admit I actively dislike her, and that colors my perception.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 12, 2017 8:57 AM |
Agreed, r13. Fassbender and Viggo absolutely destroyed her in that film - she was beyond out of her league. You have to wonder what David Cronenberg was thinking.
I think r16 nails it. Hollywood set her up to be the successor to Kate Winslet as the go-to young 'classical' actress for period roles, but it never worked. She's fine for lighter/modern stuff but should be kept from corsets at all costs.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 12, 2017 9:35 AM |
I never thought much of her until I saw Begin Again, she has a lovely voice I was quite obsessed with the ST track for a while.

She is bottom heavy, by her own admission, and in order to have thin legs she has to keep her weight very low.

She is both hungry and thirsty.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 19, 2018 2:30 AM |
She's a charming and very limited actress who started playing adults at 17, so she was well and truly over before she even hit 30.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 19, 2018 2:38 AM |
I don’t feel strongly about her, but I remember DLers making me laugh about her “I look quite pretty” moment in Love Actually.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 19, 2018 2:53 AM |
I think she's pretty, but the main reason I am a fan is that she is hilarious! Saw her on Graham Norton a couple of times and she had an excellent sense of humour.
For me, that can forgive questionable acting skills.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 19, 2018 3:05 AM |
I have the exact same build as her, and same problem; I have to starve myself to keep my legs slim/normal but then my upper body looks emaciated.

Here's Julie Christie - an undeniable beauty in her younger days. I often wonder why today's movies or even TV productions are filled with "mediocre", forgettable or bland looking women such as:
Kate Winslet Keira Knightley Rooney Mara Sarah Jessica Parker Chloe Sevigny Kirstie Alley Lindsay Lohan Meg Ryan Jennifer Aniston Naomi Watts (playing Princess Diana LOL!) Winona Ryder Kate Hudson Renee Zellweger Scarlett Johansen The list goes on.....

She was never “bottom heavy”. That’s what borderline anorexics tell themselves to justify not eating.
Even if she went up 2-3 sizes from her current state, she would still not have thunder thighs or big calves.
Just because she has small breasts, doesn’t mean she needs to starve herself to have no ass either.

If you bother to look at her print ads - Chanel for instance - she is stunningly photogenic and achingly gorgeous. I agree that she is no amazingly actress, but she could just as easily had a huge career in the modeling world. In some ways - that is what she has achieved.

She’s one of those stars that is so easy to get a bad angle on. She has an awkward body, features and is way to thin.
That said, when someone like Joe Wright directs her she looks gorgeous. I can more than see the appeal in “Anna Karenina.”

There are too many haters of Natalie Portman here to list all the R's.... Another beautiful woman people make out to be ugly.... You all need to re-assess what ugly really is..... You all make up the weirdest "rules" regarding teeth and Jaws, etc.... DaVinci I think said true beauty always involves some off or unique quality or feature not in proportion.... Clearly these women wouldn't be acting AND getting paid well to model if everyone agreed with you. Go Worship your Kardashian clones haters!

I like her as an actress. I think she’s a decent one.
I am not positive that she is anorexic, but she certainly looks as though she might be, and if she is, or if she’s bordering on that, it’s a shame.
I understand wanting to be stick thin. Clothes look fantastic on you, and that’s all well and good, but looking unhealthy overwhelms the entire presentation. I’ve been there, and ultimately, I chose to be fit, but with some weight on me.
I’d rather carry an extra 10 lbs, than to lose softness about my face, & décolletage.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | January 27, 2018 1:26 AM |
R72 You says 'she acts via duck lips and pouting'. She also has an ugly case of mandibular prognathism so that her concave face resembles a spade. The director of the 2005 film 'Pride & Prejudice' specifically instructed her to 'never pout' but the woman is congenitally incapable of not pouting.
She helped ruin this ridiculously anachronistic (but good-looking) movie.
