He was supposed to be the next Elvis.
He thought he was a groundbreaking gay.
And the gays were not having it.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 17, 2017 3:37 AM |
People realized he was fat, femme, and his honking voice was boring after a few songs. Nobody asked for a male Adele, and no one asked for one so dim either.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 17, 2017 3:38 AM |
Really? He's over? Thanks for keeping me informed!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 17, 2017 3:47 AM |
Didn't lost a lot of weight? did he gain it all back? is that why he's hiding?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 17, 2017 3:48 AM |
Falsetto isn't 'in' this year.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 17, 2017 3:50 AM |
He's probably writing and producing a new album, but you dullards don't seem to get it. But, you're ready to pounce with the trash-talking of an out, gay man. Good job, DLers.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 17, 2017 3:52 AM |
Maybe zombie Whitney Houston condemned him for defiling her classic "How Will I Know."
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 17, 2017 3:52 AM |
Because people realized 1) his voice wasn't as great as they were trying to force you to believe. It's mediocre at best and 2) it's strange for a grown man to write songs that sound as though a 12 year old girl wrote them.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 17, 2017 3:57 AM |
Yes R8! Thank you! I got so sick of "I'm Not the Only One"...
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 17, 2017 3:59 AM |
Not to forget the way he whines and moans through his songs because that's what he thinks emoting is.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 17, 2017 4:16 AM |
Another person shoved down our throats. Top 40 radio stations must've played "Stay With Me" at least a few hundred times a day.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 17, 2017 4:21 AM |
But, but he's the FIRST openly gay Oscar winner. Show some respect.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 17, 2017 4:24 AM |
Stay away Sam, please!! It was beyond nauseating listening to Stay With Me over and over... a pedestrian, boring piece of shit song. Adele's lullabies are bad enough.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 17, 2017 5:10 AM |
Nearly every singer takes a time out from public appearances while working on new material. Sam Smith will be back shortly.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 27, 2017 11:23 AM |
He very sensibly deactivated his social media presence (a la Frank Ocean man of mystery) I suspect very accurately judging his brand was oversaturated..which should now enable him to actuallt have a life from which to harvest material for his new project (which is why many artists fall off after success) -- which I hear will involve Frank Ocean's producer Malay. But nice try, haters.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 27, 2017 5:46 PM |
He went totally silent after he won his Oscar for now 1,5 years and only recently started to tweet and post again on Instagram. Only now, when he has something to promote.... Either you do social media or you don't. He uses it mostly only now for advertising himself. No wonder many "fans" are pissed off....
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 27, 2017 6:00 PM |
Where the hell did you ever get the idea Sam Smith was going to be the next Elvis? Unless you meant a fat blimp who dies on the shitter.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 1, 2017 7:23 PM |
He's being smart. He's taking a page out of Adele's playbook. When you are sucked off snd overexposed to the level he was, you disappear when you have nothing to promote. Adele does this every time.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 1, 2017 7:26 PM |
He looks like Jude Law on r35's billboard.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 1, 2017 7:33 PM |
He's kept the weight off and his follicles are just about clinging on so that's good. I'm lowkey exited to see what if any musical development he's made. He's one of the biggest in the world and that's no small achievement

TPH-50HR
How's great for a catchy title
"The title he is said to have chosen is intriguing and unexpected. âTPH-50HRâ, if that is what transpires, doesnât trip off the tongue. It does, however, inspire interest and curiosity. People will question why and that is what Sam wants; for his listeners to explore with him his story of growth and experience and therefore to relate to the songs. âTPH-50HRâ is code for âThe Pink House â 50 Heyden Roadâ, the address in the village in Hertfordshire where he grew up. Its relevance becomes clear when we bear in mind that this album is his âultimate tribute to his familyâ whom, he says, have never ceased to support his ambitions and aspirations in the music industry."

Fat and fated to meet his end on a toilet????
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 2, 2017 2:20 PM |
He's not very attractive.
Also, you can bet he's been in hiding because he got fat again. He's probably spent the last 3 months on laxatives to trim down. He will always be a fat girl (hence his ice cream cone tattoo). No wonder Jabba is obsessed with him.
And try as he might, he'll never be the "male Adele." Adele doesn't write songs that sound like a 12 year old writing a love letter to Zayn.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 2, 2017 2:21 PM |
He's no George Michael.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 2, 2017 2:26 PM |
He's been working with Stargate, Malay Ho, Timbaland. So possibly more a JT direction? Not sure how that much of a departure would sit with his established fan base, which overlaps with the musically conservative and older Adele market.

Sweet guy with an angel voice , but heard he got into coke in a bad way . Not sure if it's true , but could explain a lot.

Holy fuck! He looks like he got into meth! Is he trying for the Zayn look now too? What happened to the pompadour hair?
I don't think anyone but his biggest fans missed him. His honking vocals aren't very good.

Ed Sheeran. And his hetero privilege.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 2, 2017 2:54 PM |
But Ed Sheeran doesn't sing like he's trying to squeeze out a shit. He also doesn't release music he wrote in the 7th grade.
He also doesn't have an ice cream cone tattoo.

At least Sam Smith isn't covered in moles like Elizabeth Moss.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 2, 2017 3:08 PM |
The ones who say he's a snore I don't get. He makes fucking soulful lovelorn ballads (really beautifully well ) -- it's like complaining that the Funeral March is a bit grim. .These are the same airheaded queens who fagg out to Britney and Beyoncé and turn their noses up at ACTUAL gay icons achieving acclaim. (Watch them come back claiming to be fans of indie acts that they had to google )

He's gay. That's the reason. They don't like him because he's gay. If they deny it? They're lying.

No, he doesn't.
His singing is affected. He thinks using falsetto and whining through a song translates to emoting. The only people that work on are pre-teens... which he seems to be one.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 2, 2017 3:13 PM |
R59 You can still like me. It's just a word and context is everything. I used it (for want of a better word) iin the context of self-hating gay "coon". But my apologies if it offended you.

by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 2, 2017 3:25 PM |
Sam Smith reminds me of Diet Coke.
And I don't mind him but I wouldn't voluntarily listen to him.
I agree though that his singing is affected.

I'm gonna listen to his new music while shoving an entire jar of pickles up my ass! How exciting!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 2, 2017 4:25 PM |
Pretentious Sam Smith say's he hates his mega hit "Money on my mind".........................."Thereâs a few songs I really hate, but then the core of the album, songs like âStay With Meâ, âIâm Not The Only Oneâ â actually all the songs except âMoney On My Mindâ â I really love and Iâm really proud of the classic-ness of the way they sound, because I still listen to them now and I still love them. There are a few moments [on the album] where I think to myself, âI would have changed that. I would have done that differently."

Two years at most before he starts a hair transplant or shaving it all off
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 2, 2017 8:01 PM |
Wow, you guys are really taking the DL motto of 'pointless bitchery' to heart on this thread.
I had heard his vocals on 'Latch' but had no idea who he was. It wasn't until I was looking around on Youtube when I saw the video below, I instantly fell in love with his voice and started searching for other things he had done. I was also super impressed that he refused to be closeted from the very beginning, he was nobody at the time he did the cover but he still made the conscious decision to change 'woman' to 'person' in the song.
I can understand not liking his voice or his work, that's a matter of personal taste, but the personal attacks on him are excessive.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 2, 2017 9:16 PM |
He looks a little F2M. Especially in the photo at R67. No wonder Jabba's such a big fan.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 3, 2017 4:17 AM |
The novelty of him sounding like a black woman wore off. Why listen to him when you can actually rediscover patti labelle or dionne warwick. People's homophobia sunk in. The bitch is no Elton.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 3, 2017 4:57 AM |
Meh. Tedious and takes way too long to build up some excitement.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 11, 2017 11:46 PM |
He's planning a huge tour.
Is he really popular enough to fill both Madison Garden and Barclays Center? People want to pay $100 or more to watch him....croon?.....his dreary songs for 90 minutes?
No dancing. Will he at least have pyro?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 6, 2017 2:32 PM |
Gross. Go away. I'm sure Muzak is thrilled somebody is still making music for elevators, but the rest of us don't give a hot wet fart about this microwaved sponge.

R12, what do you mean "the first openly gay OscarÂź winner?"
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 6, 2017 3:08 PM |
R75 He sold out MSG twice a few years ago. I don't think hes still popular enough to do it unless he gets another huge hit.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 6, 2017 3:15 PM |
He has huge venues for his upcoming tour. I didn't realize he was that popular here in the states. Although his songs are decent with post-production work, I'm not sure I could stand listening to his shrill for 90 minutes. He doesn't dance, so it's not as if there'd be a Madge or Janet-like "show" going on around him, right?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 6, 2017 3:27 PM |
He's gained some weight since the photo in R65 and in the other posts were taken.

I had no idea that he was so popular with kids and teens. I thought it was just soccer moms who bought his records.
Is he a nice guy? Is he charming? I've never seen him do anything other than sing. I assumed he was the male Susan Boyle--talented but no really ready for prime time.
