Cillian Murphy

Is anyone else here a fan? I've always been captivated by his thin frame and his beautiful blue eyes. He reminds me a little bit of Sissy Spacek.

I've been obsessed with him since "28 Days Later."

What has he been up to lately? I haven't seen him in any movies or on television.

Beautiful.

Btw, was the military guy in charge in 28 Days Later, in love with "Jim"/Cillian's character? He really seemed into him.

He was MUTILATED. I thought the Irish had more sense than that. Maybe his parents were American lovers.

He's been in Peaky Blinders in Netflix (or Amazon) for several seasons now.

OP you are obsessed with him, but don't know he's has a series for a few seasons???

Dumb.

by Anonymousreply 7January 13, 2017 5:45 PM

*has had

by Anonymousreply 8January 13, 2017 5:45 PM

He was in some mariner role in some movie recently. He was all dirtied-up, which I thought was miscast, since he best shines in pretty roles.

by Anonymousreply 9January 13, 2017 5:54 PM

He isn't pretty anymore. Just freaky.

by Anonymousreply 10January 13, 2017 5:57 PM

I think of him as the poor man's Tom Welling. Tom got old looking, though. He's 39. Cillain is 40, so they're peers.

by Anonymousreply 11January 13, 2017 5:57 PM

R10 I think he's more hauntingly beautiful, now. Really otherworldly, melancholy. Damon Albarn's his blonde twin.

Nobody on here talking about Peaky Blinders? I just binge watched it. Great show. Murphy's excellent in it though Tom Hardy hams it up so much you want to belt him.

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2017 6:32 PM

I watched the first season of Peaky Blinders, but I just couldn't get through the second. It became too corny and OTT (Tom Hardy might have had something to do with that, now that you mention him.) Has there been a third?

But I'm very much looking forward to 'Dunkirk' this summer. Looks stellar!

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2017 6:36 PM

R28 They brought in a lot of new characters in the second season and it became harder to follow, very convoluted with the introduction of the horseracing, etc. Hardy was definitely a nuisance in this. He's terrible. There's a third season on Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 29May 23, 2017 1:27 AM

Adore Peaky Blinders fantastic casting, cinematography and opening theme song by Nice Cave. Cillian is very sexy in this love his deep voice.

by Anonymousreply 30May 23, 2017 1:39 AM

I adore Cillian. I think he's beautiful.

I think Tom Hardy is disgusting and dirty looking. (Sorry John/PMBT).

by Anonymousreply 31May 23, 2017 1:40 AM

Free Fire was a blast, so to speak, though it's not for the politically correct.

by Anonymousreply 32May 23, 2017 8:25 AM

I saw paparazzi pics of him with his wife and kids and his family looked so gross. Like none of them had showered for days and like their breath smelled like a sewer.

by Anonymousreply 33May 23, 2017 8:34 AM

who R33 Murphy or Hardy?

by Anonymousreply 34May 23, 2017 10:18 PM

Critics felt Armie Hammer walked away with Free Fire but I loved Cillian in it.

by Anonymousreply 35May 23, 2017 10:39 PM

Cillian looks remarkably like an old boyfriend of mine. If looks were all, I would have stuck with him forever, but he had a lot of issues and the relationship just didn't work.

by Anonymousreply 36May 23, 2017 10:39 PM

The 3rd season of Peaky Blinders was a bit weak, but overall it was good. Tom Hardy IS very hammy, but entertaining as hell. Cillian is good, but so are Helen McCrory, the actor that plays the older brother and the cousin (now on Animal Kingdom). Overall, he's a good actor, though I agree with the poster that said that his best roles are when he's shiny and pretty - he doesn't really seem to fit the rough mariner type he played in Heart of the Sea

by Anonymousreply 37May 23, 2017 11:07 PM

Totally agree, R37.

by Anonymousreply 38May 23, 2017 11:21 PM

I live not too far from him in Monkstown, County Dublin. He's very low-key and assuming, picks up his kids from the local primary (elementary) school. Up close (as on the screen) he is movie-star stunning. There is no real paparazzi culture here in Ireland so people mostly leave him alone. A neighbo(u)r of mine who has children was star-struck when her kids had a playdate at Murphy's house. Not much to report in the way of gossip, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 39May 23, 2017 11:31 PM

r34 Murphy

by Anonymousreply 40May 24, 2017 12:02 AM

Haven't seen Dunkirk yet, how much screen time does Cillian get? I doubt it's much since his character is listed as "Shivering Soldier."

I remember over a decade ago when it looked like his career was building up so much momentum with Batman Begins, Red Eye, 28 Days Later, Inception etc. then it fizzled out just as quickly. Which I'm sure he is fine with, since he's made it pretty clear that he's not into fame and stardom. Pretty disappointing for those that enjoy his work though, it just seems like a lot of wasted potential. At least he seems to be working steadily.

by Anonymousreply 41August 12, 2017 2:19 PM

R41 He actually has decent amount of screen time, even though his character has no name. 'Dunkirk' is very much an ensemble film though, no one actor has that much screen time.

by Anonymousreply 42August 12, 2017 8:44 PM

He has been very unlucky in his choices of projects. With the exception of the Nolan films that he's been part of, nothing seems to do well. He's like Casey Affleck in that way. He just needs the right role to show off his skills and he'll win all the awards.

by Anonymousreply 43August 12, 2017 9:59 PM

Attractive in an unusual way. Sometimes he's classically handsome, sometimes not good-looking at all. Depends on how he's lit and photographed. I wonder how he looks in person?

by Anonymousreply 44August 12, 2017 10:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 50August 13, 2017 10:26 PM

I saw an interview with him on Colbert that was downright awkward. Yeah, Colbert's questions were bad (do you have Lucky Charms in Ireland?} but Murphy seemed very unwilling to play along a.t all. Maybe he's a talented guy that's unwilling or unable to do the kind of schmoozing you have to do to be an A-List type (see also Hardy, Tom, though he's not grumpy & rude like Tom)

by Anonymousreply 53August 14, 2017 12:41 AM

I think he was just put off by Colbert's stereotyping, R53.

by Anonymousreply 57August 14, 2017 12:55 AM

R13 I was thinking the same. He's a younger male Tilda.

by Anonymousreply 58August 14, 2017 12:58 AM

R54 He didn't seem standoffish with Colbert to me. And actually just sitting on a talk show seat and not in extreme closeup he doesn't even look or act unusual. He seems like a decent guy.

by Anonymousreply 59August 14, 2017 1:03 AM

He reminds me of a young male Meg Foster.

by Anonymousreply 60August 14, 2017 1:05 AM

[quote] Yeah, Colbert's questions were bad

[quote]I think he was just put off by Colbert's stereotyping

Colbert is a comedian. He's supposed to ask silly questions. If it was a serious talk show and the host started asking things like, "So you eat lots of potatoes right?" or "What's the longest you ever went without a drink," Etc. etc. that would be different. The awkwardness stems from Cillian's deep dislike of fame and interviews, and just him having a stick up his ass in general (which is apparent in other interviews)

by Anonymousreply 61August 14, 2017 1:10 AM

Why are so many of you calling him "a male" this or "a male" that? He is Miss Cillian Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 62August 14, 2017 1:13 AM

R61 Colbert actually asked "“Do you guys get lucky charms in Ireland?”. Would Colbert have asked such stereotypical questions of any other ethnicity?

Plus, it's just lazy. I thought Colbert was supposed to be the "smart" one. That's how CBS promotes him.

by Anonymousreply 63August 14, 2017 1:16 AM

R61 he's not standoffish with Craig Ferguson in the interview at R57.

But then Ferguson is talking to him normally and not like he's some magical leprechaun come to life.

by Anonymousreply 64August 14, 2017 1:21 AM

R64 I must be missing something. He seems about the same, a little lower energy with Colbert, in both. He just comes off as serious minded, not really whimsical like Colbert seems to want him to be.

by Anonymousreply 65August 14, 2017 1:26 AM

Would the assholes who use shit abbreviations such as "OTT" kindly go back to their lazy social media pens? The only abbreviation acceptable here is "DL," used with either of two meanings.

Invariably, these posters show themselves to be shallow fools with the rest of their posts. An example is the person who thought Season 2 of PEAKY BLINDERS was "OTT" because of Tom Hardy. If you're too stupid to understand the genre you're watching and then complain because it's not what it's not intended to be, you need to go back to sixth grade. If you're not still in it.

I DIDN"T LIKE THE WIZARD OF OZ BECAUSE IT WASN'T FAST AND FURIOUS. Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 66August 14, 2017 1:36 AM

Cillian isn't a "giver" in interviews that I've seen, whether it's press junkets, set interviews or chat shows he's not going to give funny anecdotes or play games. He's the type who would be very happy to just do the work and not have to promote it at all.

by Anonymousreply 67August 14, 2017 1:37 AM

Murphy's great in Peaky Blinders. R66 I hated Tom Hardy in that - usually he's one of my favorite actors but that was scenery chewing pushed to the nth degree.

R85, Murphy and JRM were never close friends--just friendly. There are photos of them at a couple of events many years ago, but they have never worked together and aren't close. I suppose there is a kinship as both are actors from Cork and are close in age (something in the Cork water producing femme beautiful petite actors with gorgeous blue eyes and impossible cheekbones!). They are both connected to Colin Farrell--I'm not sure if they are still close, but Murphy and Farrell met early in their careers and were/are good friends. JRM has worked with Farrell a couple of times too. JRM has said good things about Farrell and Murphy, both as actors and people. But he's also said he's not really truly friends with fellow actors--that there's a close but slighly faux atmosphere on set but once it's done, people move on.

From what JRM has said, it sounds like he and Farrell, if they run into each other, can pal around and shoot the breeze, but otherwise they don't run in the same social circles. Farrell did go to JRM's mother's funeral though. I wonder if part of it is because (supposedly) Farrell really did clean up and go it together whereas JRM continues to struggle with sobriety. They both partied really hard on Alexander and both went through rehab afterwards. It seemed Farrell took it seriously and went through a longterm program whereas JRM has flitted in and out of rehab for over the years.

I thought Murphy was hot in 28 Days with the ultra-skinny look but was completely disappointed when I saw what he looked like at his normal weight. I'm not quite sure what it is as I'm totally gaga for JRM, but Murphy just doesn't do it for me. Even though he's a far better actor than JRM to boot. I think Murphy as aged well for a pasty pretty Irish guy though.

R115 Any "heterosexual" man who is attracted to a man dressed in drag is a latent homosexual. He looks like a mtf trani in that gif. There is nothing actually feminine about his face, only gay men seem to think this but that's because they are already attracted to masculine faces so you can put lipstick on arnold swachnegger and they would call him feminine. He looks about as feminine as patrick swayze in to wong foo. He has certain androgynous features but overall a masculine face, especially the lower half of his face. He has a very strong jaw and large gap between nose and upper lip which is a masculine trait. No one would ever mistake him for a real woman, not even with makeup and a wig.

I think he’s so beautiful and angelic. His beauty is mysterious and frightening in a sense, somewhat like elves in the Lord of the Rings.

First saw him in Intermission. He was brilliant. A work of art.

A beautiful doll in Inception.

I also recommend How Harry Became a Tree, where he plays a virgin.

He looks like Eric Roberts sometimes.

Breakfast on Pluto is a fantastic film and he is outstanding as "Kitten". I saw him on the street in Dublin once. Beautiful eyes for sure!

Disco pigs, how Harry became a tree, intermission, the wind that shakes the barley. I have followed his career for years. Beautiful man, great actor.

The prettier the man, the uglier the fraus. This one has been stalking him for years.

Has anyone seen Aloft? The story is sick, but for the three hot scenes excluded from the DVD version (sorry, that's the best I managed to find)
