DL Favorite Thomas Roberts Leaves MSNBC

Roberts has hosted his show less than two years. Roberts was made aware of the cancellation around Thanksgiving. He joined the network six years ago and his contract runs through November 2017.

He's so sexy.

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2016 4:25 PM

Did anyone see Roberts advertising his ass on the internet again? The sad news probably made him get drunk and make bad decisions.

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2016 4:26 PM

Fired for being gay? It starts already?

by Anonymousreply 3December 19, 2016 4:26 PM

He's a notorious drunk. He got thrown out of a big gay wedding in NYC a few years ago because he was so wasted and obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 4December 19, 2016 4:29 PM

I need to point out, we don't know will he actually leave MSNBC or will they find something else for him. But his show is over. I hope someone knows something about this. My headline is misleading, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 5December 19, 2016 4:31 PM

Maybe you should have read your own link OP.

by Anonymousreply 6December 19, 2016 4:33 PM

MSNBC is alway firing their daytime talent.

Serves him right since he was always criticizing Hillary during the election and normalizing Trump.

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2016 4:41 PM

Now this is an A-list gay man. I bet he socializes with Reichen.

by Anonymousreply 8December 19, 2016 4:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2016 6:32 PM

Rumor has it after his MSNBC contract is up, Thomas Roberts is becoming "Roberta Thomas" after sex-reassignment surgery.

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2016 6:57 PM

This thread is taking on a nasty homophobic/transphobic/misogynistic tone that I really cannot abide by. You realize that all of those types of hate are intertwined.

by Anonymousreply 15December 19, 2016 6:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 16December 19, 2016 7:33 PM

R10 At least we know he looks good without clothes. Lucky guy who can taste his dick and ass.

by Anonymousreply 17December 19, 2016 7:35 PM

tiny meat...why show it

by Anonymousreply 18December 19, 2016 8:16 PM

wow!!

by Anonymousreply 19December 19, 2016 8:18 PM

Well that just sucks. I like Thomas Roberts. And he's very good at his job. Why are they letting him go? Were his ratings down for his daytime show?

Thomas Roberts is a hell of a lot better than Katie Tur and Hallie Jackson, who I can't tell apart and are interchangeable.

by Anonymousreply 20December 19, 2016 8:26 PM

He seems like he likes to make rounds, so to speak. Anyone here had him? I'm guessing tiny to average meat, but it would be neat to know for sure.

by Anonymousreply 21December 19, 2016 8:38 PM

NBC even made him the weekend anchor on the Nightly News at the beginning of the year. He was getting a lot of air time on both networks. Something must be up. Maybe disciplinary problems.

by Anonymousreply 47December 20, 2016 9:36 PM

R32 Grammar Nazi you're actually incorrect.

Even though in colloquial American English we normally say "it's me" or "it's him," both are grammatically incorrect.

The verb "IS" requires the subjective case (i.e. I, he, she). In contrast, prepositions such as to, him, between" require the objective case (i.e. me, him, her).

Ergo, "It cannot be HE" is correct.

For bonus points, "Between you and I" is WRONG. "Between you and ME" is correct.

by Anonymousreply 65April 15, 2018 1:06 AM

Back in the day before he met Patrick (his husband), TL was infamous for his parties that would occasionally devolve into naked romps (perfectly normal). The fun tidbit is that he's quite thick and boys would do bumps of coke off his cock.

Back when I worked at the peacock and he was a correspondent (rather than being based in the building hosting a show) I'd usually run into him on ridiculously hot days when I'd be sweating through all my clothes and looked a total mess. He'd usually look at me with concern.

I used to see him and Patrick at the obligatory gay Broadway openings (Normal Heart, Kinky, Hedwig...), but haven't seen 'em since. Hope they're well.

by Anonymousreply 71May 7, 2018 12:29 AM

What did Thomas Roberts really bring to the network? I'm all for gay representation but he was pretty meh if we are going to be honest.

by Anonymousreply 72May 7, 2018 12:32 AM

R72. Thomas brought a hell of a lot more to the network than Hallie Jackson who loud bombastic style is as if she's the emcee of Let's Make a Deal. Thomas Roberts also knows how to conduct an interview much netter than the meh, boring, recent addition, David Gura

by Anonymousreply 73May 7, 2018 12:37 AM

Too busy being an out gay man, so proud, all that shit. It caught up with him

by Anonymousreply 74May 7, 2018 1:02 AM

Does his husband still work? I recall a instagram or facebook post where they were getting a new Jeep or Mercedes for a birthday. Can they keep up their lifestyle on one salary?

by Anonymousreply 75May 7, 2018 1:11 AM

R74. All that shit? What are you talking about? Thomas is out less than CNN's Anderson Cooper. I have a feeling that Thomas' departure came about because he was viewed as an anchor only and not out in the field the way many of the MSNBC reporters who worked on the 2016 election who are now rewarded with high-profile jobs.

by Anonymousreply 76May 7, 2018 1:13 AM

Roberts was so lightweight, so weak, so what they used to call "milquetoast." If he hasn't found his macho yet, I'm sure CBS News will take him. The network specialize in non-threatening milquetoast types.

by Anonymousreply 82July 6, 2018 4:44 PM

He is a boring and uninteresting handsome man- the world is full of them. He used his looks, his voice, and his sexual molestation case to propel him higher. But you have to carry a show with some personality - even Edward R. Murrow had a personality. Thomas Roberts was just a talking head with a limited preppy intellect which just by chance was gay.

by Anonymousreply 83July 6, 2018 4:57 PM

Good for him, R78. He must now know that he's not material for network or for shows that require him to talk without a script.

I'm hoping...hoping...MSNBC will someday send useless Mika Brzezinski back to local. In Alaska.

by Anonymousreply 84July 6, 2018 6:27 PM

Atlanta is one of the top ten media markets in the country and the CBS affiliate is one of the highest rated. It’s probably more prestigious - and higher paying - to be a nightly anchor in Atlanta than to be a weekend fill-in on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 85July 6, 2018 6:57 PM

Ouch. So he’ll be yukking it up with the weatherman and pretending to be interested in baseball with the sportscaster? Quite a step down from cable news.

by Anonymousreply 86July 6, 2018 7:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 87July 6, 2018 7:01 PM

Welcome to the DL Mr. Roberts r85.

Please, there is no way to spin this. It is a professional step down for Thomas Roberts. He'd MUCH rather have his MSNBC weekend spot than doing local news. Every local news broadcaster hopes to have the national career.

by Anonymousreply 88July 6, 2018 7:10 PM

Can he write a book? Teach? Host his own “investigative reports” show on Netflix?

I’m concerned. There must be something he can do other than local news.

by Anonymousreply 101July 7, 2018 1:40 AM

R101 Like what?

by Anonymousreply 102July 7, 2018 1:53 AM

He once was doing a spot on youthfulness or such. He as libbed something like: “... interesting, well, I’m a guy, ....” It was so funny. It belonged in an earlier age, and should have been, “...interesting, well, I’m. girl, ...”

The fact that he was a guy was completely irrelevant. A gay guy, or girl, or metrosexual would be relevant, maybe.

I wanted to share that.

by Anonymousreply 103July 7, 2018 2:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 113July 7, 2018 4:19 PM

I don’t really watch MSNBC much, but I would much prefer to see him there than the likes of Stephanie Ruhle, who is one of the sorts of “news personalities” like Joy Reid who substantiates calling MSNBC a left-wing version of Fox News. Even if they are tethered more faithfully to facts, their rhetoric is unnecessarily and painfully (to me) inflammatory and not useful for anything since all they do is fuel angry progressives to complain more loudly without actually doing anything to stop our (already lost) country from converting to fascism.

by Anonymousreply 114July 7, 2018 4:24 PM

If you'd like to wager, R111, I'm in.

Thomas Roberts is dull and BORING. It has nothing to do with looks or gayness. He should have been a model, took piano lessons and ended up singing at a piano bar at the airport. The big time - Hartsfield Jackson Airport.

And, no, R114. He shouldn't be there instead of Stephanie Ruhle. He should take her with him when he has a cabaret show after the airport stint.

by Anonymousreply 115July 7, 2018 4:26 PM

Is his husband Patrick Dabner also moving to the Atlanta area? I thought I had read he was a pharmaceutical rep at one point--likely he'd be able to transfer.

MSNBC CASTOFF RESURFACES IN ATLANTA

It’s been 10 years since Thomas Roberts last sat in an Atlanta tv studio.

Until now.

Roberts, who exited MSNBC last November, is coming to Meredith’s WGCL as the stations new evening anchor.

He’s replacing Ben Swann, whose efforts at being a junior league Alex Jones tinfoil hat type led to his dismissal in January.

Robert will be sitting alongside Sharon Reed.

Roberts joined MSNBC in 2010 after tours of duty in San Diego, Lincoln, Neb., Fort Myers, Fla. and Hampton Roads, Va.

Then, in 2001, he joined CNN and was a weekday co-anchor at CNN Headline News based in Atlanta for several years, leaving in 2007.

Thomas Roberts deserves to be on MSNBC. He's a intelligent, informed; he's a great newscaster, journalist , interviewer and easy on the eye I still don't understand why MSNBC let him go.

His replacement, David Gura, is no big deal at all. Roberts is head and shoulders above Gura.

R131. You're wrong. MSNBC made a big mistake.

by Anonymousreply 132July 8, 2018 6:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 134July 8, 2018 7:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 135July 8, 2018 7:04 PM

R126 has an error in its chronology. It’s lists 2001 after 2010 in a way that is nonsensical.

by Anonymousreply 136July 8, 2018 7:07 PM

Ben Swann was an anchor on our Cincinnati Fox 19 station some years ago. His commentaries were not well received and he got canned. He was kinda hot though.

by Anonymousreply 137July 8, 2018 7:16 PM

Has anyone ID'd the journalist behind the CL posting (which was featured earlier in this thread)? Or ID'd the shortlist of who it might be? I know it fits Tommy's age (34 in 2007), but the bodytype doesn't seem right -- Tommy is thicker, more muscular.

According to Wikipedia, he had resigned from CNN in May of 2007. And he didn't start freelancing with MSNBC until 2010, so would he have "been on assignment" for a news outlet in November of 2007? And what national (or regional) news stories would have sent a journalist on assignment to Provo, Utah in November of 2007? So many questions...

I find it interesting that the posting specifically calls out a preference for "muscular Mormon" men. I guess that suggests a couple of possibilities...

1). He is Mormon himself and prefers the company of his fellow Mormon gays. (Tommy was raised Catholic, according to Wikipedia)

2). Because he was, according to the CL posting, visiting Utah he found something titillating about getting off with a Mormon while in Mormon-land.

3). He was using "muscular Mormon" to subtly convey that he prefers white, muscular males without explicitly saying so. Ya know, a guy who is generally liberal and progressive, but who has these racial biases/preferences built in.

R138 What a douche. The ass and dick are nothing to brag home about.

by Anonymousreply 140July 8, 2018 7:24 PM

Will he be a regular at Swinging Richard's?

by Anonymousreply 148July 9, 2018 12:55 AM

Any word on his husband? Are they living apart or did he move south too?

by Anonymousreply 149July 9, 2018 9:02 PM

Anyone have any video clips of his new gig?

by Anonymousreply 150July 13, 2018 2:31 PM

R150 No but looks like today was his first day! Crotch in pants split before first show! Will he stay behind the anchor desk the whole show?
