I've been with an olympian and I can assure you, most of them are the most god awful boring people on earth. During the last year or so he has been quite open about mental health and depression, which I think has caused him to present himself differently ("rebranded"), not simply an athlete but as someone more complex who is vulnerable and creative. I think he got a puppy partly to help with the depression. He also did what some would consider questionable like getting a nose stud. I think it was a detriment to his looks, but he seems proud of it and happy. He was also in Asia for the past couple of months and only returned a few days ago. He's in quarantine now. I think he may have gotten another stud or piercing while in Asia, although that could be a vague or false recollection of something else he did. Tattoo perhaps?

Some of it is probably bad luck with injuries. I know Jay has an ongoing shoulder thing and maybe a knee thing as well(?) There’s also probably some feedback looping going on, where he doesn’t do well in a competition, then either beats himself up or drifts further from the sport to do photography, then performs poorly again, etc.
