He was so hot in Latter Days
He and his older brother now own/operate a goat farm/dairy in western New York making artesianal cheeses. I'm *not* making this up.

He was smokin' hot in "Latter Days." Didn't he retire to his brother's farm in upstate New York?
Now he's a goat herder, or something.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 24, 2016 11:42 PM |
Too greasy in that photo.

He's now Max, OP. Max Sandvoss. Stop deadnaming him.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 24, 2016 11:49 PM |
Victim of the casting coutch. Changed his name to Max, turned his back on the industry.

Is he gay?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 24, 2016 11:52 PM |
As of October 2013, Sandvoss had changed his first name to Max and manages a farm in East Bethany, New York, with his brother, Trystan.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 24, 2016 11:53 PM |
He has only himself to blame.
Steve did a fatal mistake after gaining notoriety for Latter Days. He tried to remove himself from any connection to the film and gay cinema in general. He was not talented enough to crossover to mainstream, so instead of adding on that popularity to create more starring roles (however small) and connections he fell into obscurity.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 24, 2016 11:58 PM |
He reminds me of a burlier Connor Jessup.

So to be clear a really hot guy exiled himself to a farm with his brother.... Straight?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 25, 2016 12:17 AM |
Really strange that he'd go out of the way to change his name. It's one thing to fade into obscurity but wow. He must really not want to be associated with anything remotely gay.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 25, 2016 12:20 AM |
I wish Max would comeback to acting; it does not mean it has to be a full time gig. He can take parts on some Indies here and there, and still live his normal current live. I don't think his love for acting has died, that need never goes away.

Actually no, it is because of that idiotic stand to disassociate himself from "the gay" that he ended up sucking some producer's cock. He could have landed some other Indie films right after Latter Days (even if they were small gay theme films) but eventually that could have lead to more important work. He was not advised well and that's the truth.

[quote]He and his brother are a couple. They retired to the farm to escape society's judgements.
According to Facebook the brother had a baby with his wife last fall.
I wouldn't mind being a cheese maker myself. Sounds like hard work but looks very fulfilling. My mother comes from a farming family so I certainly know it's not all sunshine and flowers. Still, I don't wonder at all why Steve decided to go this way. Hollywood is brutal.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 25, 2016 3:19 AM |
He is so cute. I love those fair skinned guys who get all red faced when they are turned on.

BTW, after all the depressing stories about Trump, terrorism and all the shit going in the world it felt nice to scroll through their company's Facebook page. Goats and barn cats and beautiful fields. Maybe I really should become a specialty farmer.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 25, 2016 3:30 AM |
The brother's "wife" is a surrogate. Steve and his brother are happily raising the baby themselves as a loving couple. Don't judge.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 25, 2016 3:36 AM |
Sorry but starring in Latter Days is not much of a launching pad. I worked on the movie and it was a bare bones very low budget film. Only people on this site would have even heard of it or Steve Sandvoss. Nice guy though. Very unassuming.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 25, 2016 3:48 AM |
It may have had a bare bones budget, but as someone noted upthread it was a surprisingly good movie. Thanks largely to Steve/Max's appealing portrayal of a tortured soul.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 25, 2016 3:55 AM |
It was a terrible film that's rightly been forgotten, as has everyone associated with it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 25, 2016 3:58 AM |

No, it was NOT. Why do some gays try to convince themselves some of these trashy movies are good? Latter Days was a cheesy B-movie, don't kid yourself.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 25, 2016 4:45 AM |
It's not a boring life. It is filled with responsibility and care. So much so that there is less time for traveling the world, tricking on Grindr. But it's better than spending all day everyday pushing paper like most of us.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 25, 2016 5:08 AM |
I don't understand the lack of appreciation for Sandvoss' film. Compared with other B-budget gay films, which are mostly really cheap and boring, it was outstanding. The Mormon parents were especially interesting to me, because the mother was really hateful and the father seemed, in a quiet way, to be shunning her as much as possible.
And Steve was really nice to look at. I didn't care for his opposite, though. Just my own personal taste.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 25, 2016 6:18 AM |
he is unbelievably hot in that movie. I liked it just because of him, because I didn't not like the guy that he fell for at all.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 25, 2016 6:56 AM |
Total nonsense that people have forgotten Latter Days. In New Now Next's 100 Best Gay films 2015 list the film was at number 6. It's so loved because the feeling of alienation from the family and church Sandvoss' character is going through rings true with so many people. The film's not really a favorite of mine and I totally see all its faults but it's got a good heart. I've seen it maybe three times over the years. Sandvoss is maybe the biggest reason the film works so well. He makes the character vulnerable and extremely touching. It's sort of a perfect storm situation with him being practically the only imaginable guy to play the role, he's so good in it. I vaguely remember seeing him in something else and even though he seems like a totally nice guy and capable as an actor he didn't blow me away.
You can see the budget wasn't that high but Latter Days is totally one of the best low budget gay feature films ever made, with its warts and all. You can sense the authenticity from the script because the writer/director was a Mormon himself. There's a reason why films like Latter Days and another low budget indie Shelter (number 2 on the same best gay films list) are so well liked. They are sentimental but the feeling behind feels so very real and true.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 25, 2016 9:09 AM |
Um, wasn't there an announcement couple months back that he was returning to acting?
Could've sworn someone posted an article or something saying he got a small part in something and was slowly dipping his toe back into the acting waters.
Or was that just wishful thinking.
Oh and I agree with the consensus...he's fucking gorgeous. Wish he was gay in real life.

Considering she was playing a role your question doesn't make sense.

R47, would you start a thread on LD? It would be interesting to hear your behind the scenes stories and reminiscences. It may have been low budget, but it touched many gay people because of the truth at its core.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 25, 2016 2:10 PM |
Charlie David would have been better in the waiter role.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 25, 2016 3:03 PM |

With Joseph Gordon Levitt as a non-gay Mormon.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 25, 2016 3:52 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 25, 2016 5:31 PM |
Wow, I never knew Latter Days was Wes Ramsey's first role in anything. Or so says IMDb. I agree that next to Steve he seemed too slick but then again he was supposed to play an experienced big city gay man. I've liked him in some of the other stuff he's done but he probably wasn't the best one to play the role in Latter Days. He did a good enough job but something was missing.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 25, 2016 5:44 PM |
Wes Ramsey was cute back in the day, and is still pretty good to look at. Somewhat.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 25, 2016 5:47 PM |
Sandvoss was so fucking hot in that movie. The thought of him as a goat farmer makes him even hotter. I'd work his farmer's market booth any day of the week, if it meant we could go back to the barn afterwards and get it on.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 25, 2016 5:57 PM |
Based on their Facebook page Steve sells their products himself at market sometimes. Makes you wonder how many Latter Day fans travel to buy cheese from him.

I have the opposite reaction. Sandvoss is pleasant-looking in that cornfed Midwestern way, but Ramsey is much hotter. Chacun à son goût.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 25, 2016 7:28 PM |
Ramsey was too femme for me in Latter Days but I wouldn't call him ugly at all.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 25, 2016 7:37 PM |
Steve/Max was the definitely the hot one in the movie, but Wes didn't give me a strong urge to change the channel.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 25, 2016 7:44 PM |
Speaking of changing the channel: Even though we now have Netflix et al, I miss Logo airing movies like Latter Days.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 25, 2016 7:46 PM |
I wonder if he has ever been offered doing gay porn, if not someone should do it. His ASS was the highlight of Latter days for me. He has a great built, kinda beefy but with a cute face. Then he's also a Harvard grad. It's such a pity that all this potential gets wasted by being a farmer, his beauty should be enjoyed by all.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 25, 2016 7:56 PM |
What is wasted by his being a farmer? I think it's a noble calling especially if done sustainably.
Would his harvard degree be less of a waste if he were a hedge fund manager instead? That's what a lot of ivy league grads do, and they make bank, but the work is a shell game, taking risks with other people's money, and fundamentally parasitic.

Ramsey looks much better with short hair, r83. I honestly think that's why I found him so unattractive in Latter Days - horrible, horrible haircut. Looked like a bad wig. I lived in West Hollywood in the early 2000s and I don't remember any gay guys wearing their hair that way.
