I know she is getting older, but when she started many people weren't sure how to take Meryl Streep's looks. Her acting has been so consistently outstanding that the public has seemed to overlook the fact that she isn't classically beautiful. With a career that has spanned 5 decades, she has certainly beaten the odds as far as female longevity in Hollywood despite her looks.

Chris Hemsworth - great body but face looks like a caveman - in Rush he was marketed as the sexy hunk and Daniel Bruhl as the talented character actor, but Bruhl is both more talented And better looking

One Direction - the entire band, including Harry and Zayn - you could pick five teen boys randomly walking around any shopping mall who are more attractive, and they'd probably be only marginally worse singers

As for Meryl Streep, I think she has been more consistently overrated than anybody, and she was always pretty. She might not be a Garbo or Grace Kelly type beauty but she hardly broke any kind of mould or broke down barriers looks wise. Look at who was winning Oscars at that time, Liza Minelli, Glenda Jackson, Maggie Smith, Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek, Louise Fletcher, Ellen Burstyn, Sally Field. Streep was probably the most conventionally pretty and classically beautiful of the whole lot. if anything, she benefited enormously from not being too otherworldly gorgeous as that wasn't what was in at that time. Other peers like Glenn Close, Jill Clayburgh, and Judy Davis weren't bombshells either. Maybe Jane Fonda was a bombshell, that's about it.

Edward Norton was Beautiful with his receding hairline; after the hair transplant he became unattractive . Add a herniated alien baby to that gut of his along with a double chin, and wha-la! Instant ugly.

I think Penelope and Angelina are gorgeous. I have a friend that used to work for WB. He never understood the fuss over her until he saw her on the lot one day. He said she's stunning beyond belief. I've heard that from several people who've met her in person.

Was Diana considered one of the beautiful people? She was far more attractive than your average wage slave walking down the street. But you take that wage slave and dress them in great fitting designer clothes, tailored within an inch of perfection, give them a sensational, flattering haircut, put their feet in great shoes, and they'll lean towards that beautiful look.

I never met Diana, but I worked with a nurse who worked at Guy's hospital in London. Anyway, Diana was there on a visit, and Shelley (the nurse) literally collided with her at right angles, Shelley heading straight ahead, and Diana about to take a left turn down the corridor. Shelley, of course was stunned. She told me Diana was like 10 foot tall (an exaggeration, but coming face to face with one of the most famous women in the world...), and just looked at her and said, 'It's fine.'

Shelley's Welsh, and my experience with the Welsh is that it takes a lot to gobsmack them. Shelley said Diana absolutely radiated positive energy. I'm not saying this happened all the time, but the term beautiful is subjective.
