Anyone go there? It's old movie theater in Jackson Heights, Queens, that's a now a popular gay cruising spot. The owners seem real nice, they even serve free snacks.
I'm heading there now.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 28, 2016 6:26 PM |
The owners do treat you nice there, free food, and its a cool place to hang out even if you just want to watch mainstream flicks. As for hooking up with guys there, well, you better not be too picky, lol. But once in awhile, there's a hot guy or two.

LOTS of drag queens. And they ain't pretty. But large fun place with multiple theater screens, lots of booths. If someone is trolling you, you can loose them. The workers don't yell and scream, they're quiet and polite. The door fee (last time I went was either $15 or $20) covers everything, the booths don't require money to play movies. Great fun place.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 14, 2017 2:18 AM |
Is it a porno theater? Or are gays cruising during showings of Finding Dory or whatever?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 14, 2017 2:33 AM |
Damn. I grew up two blocks down from here. I had no idea this place was like this.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 14, 2017 2:34 AM |
Jackson Heights, Queens is NYC?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 14, 2017 2:36 AM |
Yes @R6
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 14, 2017 2:53 AM |
I went there once, maybe five years ago, after a Port Authority hustler I knew told me I'd like it. Coming from what he told me, I expected hot street trade in adundance.
Well, there are movies and little screens and booths everywhere, and I think it was a Sunday afternoon so it was busy. As for hooking up and hot guys, it's really what R2 said. it was full of what I would call off-the-grid gay guys, with a smattering of trannies.
Didn't do it for me.
.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 14, 2017 3:05 AM |
Rarely see drag queens there, R3.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 14, 2017 4:05 AM |
It was built for the influx of people flooding into Queens for the1939 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows Park. Hence the name. It's sad and decrepit now, but, if you go, look closely and you'll still see touches of its original art deco splendor.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 15, 2017 2:28 AM |
Sounds like you'd have to scrape off your whole body after leaving.

Porn theatre?

There yesterday. A few hotties. Weekends usually better.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 17, 2018 5:24 PM |
Is there a nacreous layer of permacum?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 17, 2018 6:14 PM |
The porn theaters in my city are full of trannies, cackling like a coven of witches, herding in and out of the lobby and stampeding with high heels through the corridors, exclaiming over anything they find interesting. It ruins the mood.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 17, 2018 7:23 PM |
The Fair has both a main screen that shows non-porn movies [italic]and[/italic] booths off the main screen that show porn. They keep the main screen "clean" so the city will leave them alone.
The main screen shows everything from kung fu and Bollywood to last-run mainstream movies, silents, Golden Age classics, and schlock horror.
There's a documentary about it on Vimeo, but you have to pay to watch the whole thing.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 17, 2018 7:37 PM |
I have fond memories from very long ago r17, of ending up just going into the main theater and watching Breakfast at Tiffany's and A Star is Born. I found it so incongruous.

There were several hot guys this weekend. Unusual but nice.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 9, 2018 1:39 AM |
Penicillin

Self-esteem? No on going in there seems to have any.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 9, 2018 1:59 AM |
Why R23? Someone wants to have sex means they have no self-esteem? Are you a straight female?

I think it sounds fun.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 20, 2018 11:44 PM |
There are always some decent looking guys in the crowd. Not a majority, but it’s usually fun enough there.

NYC councilman dies at the theater.
Former Brooklyn City Councilman Lew Fidler, a kidney transplant survivor who served as a Democratic Party official for many years, died Sunday. He was 62.
Fidler was found unconscious in a movie theater on Astoria Blvd. in Queens about 11 p.m. on Saturday, police said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he died. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death, but criminality was not suspected, police said.
------------------
This is the only theater google shows me "on Astoria Blvd. in Queens".
The Fair Theater, a place you wouldn't want to be caught dead in.

No wonder New York has so many people with STDs.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 6, 2019 2:50 AM |
Ooh, r32, I came here just for this. The story sounded a little “off” - married old guy at a movie theatre, alone, past 11:00.
How embarrassing for his family!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 7, 2019 9:23 PM |
Not one of the mainstream news reports I’ve seen mentions that he was at a theater, let alone that it was the Fair or what he might have been up to there. Total coverup.

[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 7, 2019 9:43 PM |
R35, the Post makes it sound like it was a medical event. I don’t buy it.
“Fidler, who underwent a double kidney transplant in 2014, was discovered inside the theater at around 11:30 p.m. Friday, police sources said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died around 12:30 p.m. Sunday without ever regaining consciousness, sources said.
Police sources said they do not suspect foul play.”
NO FOUL PLAY, NOTHING TO SEE HERE.

Precisely. That's why I did the extra google search to see what sort of theater fit the described address. I had a hunch.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 7, 2019 10:36 PM |
Clearly there to watch the late night movie at 11pm.
😂😂😂
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 7, 2019 10:59 PM |
It was a medical event. First Lew came and then he went.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 8, 2019 12:48 AM |
R33/r40, good detective work. I think it’s funny that the Astoria Blvd location was revealed. Enough hints were dropped that skeptics could pick up the trail.
I do feel for his family, though.

Went last week from Boston.
Amazing, but sleazy place.
Lots of transvestites which I'm not into, but would go again.
Truly a vestige of a bygone era. Kind of sad, both the place and the people.
Not everyone is there for sex, it seems. Some just seem to know each other and socialize in the lounge area. Kind of a rough, older crowd with a sprinkling of young guys.
Open until 3 am on weekends. I think midnight otherwise. Opens just before noon?
A small bathroom was dark and had guys playing around, plus lots of pornoi booths for free once you've paid your $15 admission. A couple of areas with small screens with small seating area, including one with a play area.
The tv lounge was playing an old PBS Peter Citera (sp?) and Any Grant concert. Some guys were watching and relaxing. The big theatre was showing live boxing, I think, but few sit or roam there.
At one point, some young hot guy was getting a bj, though. And I blew the same minority twice in the front row over a few hours. .Some people play in the small balcony where smoking is permitted.
Lots of minorities. No females, apparently, during my visit on a busy Saturday night.
Area seems safe at night, but not entirely sure.
They rent lockers for the patrons to put their backpacks and stuff while cruising. Many seem to take the bus or Uber there and don't want to roam around with a backpack.
A 24-hour diner, Buccaneer, down the street
Not for fancy folks or most others, but I'll be back!

Thanks.

In the small lounge area once you've paid the entrance fee, patrons are bombarded with different colors of Christmas lights from the ceiling, walls, almost everywhere. Even some statues and such are wrapped with mini holiday lights.. All juxtaposed at times next to a Valentine's heart and then a Halloween pumpkin cut out. Really zany and wacky but kind of cool, anyway.
Check the photos of the exterior entrance and the lobby with Christmas lights on the Google review for a sneak peek.
I think one can buy 7 admissions for $49. And I think one can or could get a $5 off coupon on their website,
Free donuts when I went. Other times they may have free hot dogs. Coffee may be free? I bought a bottled water even though a water fountain was available.
Almost a must see must do NYC experience for certain members of the GBTQ+ community, even if just for an hour.

True, but this isn't a real "movie theater".
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 28, 2020 10:57 PM |
Hi, R50. In a way, it is. Yeah, I get that it’s a porno house, etc. But some years ago - under Giuliani, I think but I’m not sure - the city regulated “adult” businesses (theaters/bookstores) by requiring the “adult” side of their business to make up no more than 40% of their business. That’s why you may find adult video stores here with shelves of untouched G-rated DVDs. And why the main screen at the Fair shows mainstream fare.
