Edward G. Robinson

such a good actor

by Anonymousreply 20July 24, 2022 4:59 AM

Cecil B. Demille thought so too.

That's why he gave Robinson a role in "The Ten Commandments" to save Robinson from the blacklist.

by Anonymousreply 1April 25, 2016 4:48 AM

He had a big tool, or so I heard.

by Anonymousreply 2April 25, 2016 5:04 AM

He gave a mind blowing performance in All My Sons. Lifelong progressive.

Any other movies recommend?

Double Indemnity, R3.

Key Largo, The Stranger

Yeah, see?!

Should've been nominated and won an Oscar for proto-noir Two Seconds.

Would it have killed you to post a pic, OP?

Here's an image of him still somewhat young.

Scarlet Street is still one of my favorite movies, even after dozens of viewings.

by Anonymousreply 9December 16, 2019 8:43 PM

He was great at comedies too.

Robinson's supporting role totally stole Double Indemnity. He blew everybody else off the screen. And he wasn't even nominated for the Best Supporting Oscar,

The Stranger with Orson Welles and Loretta Young is really great.

EGR has a silent intensity and a quality of suggesting the gears in his mind never stop turning.

Bette Davis in her Dick Cavett interview talked about having to kiss an actor with the ugliest mouth. I reckon she was talking about Edward G. She couldn't name him because she said he was still alive.

r13 Did she wipe her mouth afterwards?

I an EGR fan. When he's "on" he's very good, e.g. "Soylent Green" and "Scarlet Street." He can get a bit hammy sometimes, cases in point "The Red House" and "Brother Orchid." Gee, maybe I just like his films with colors in the titles?

He was said to be a true gentleman, quite a good golfer and an art collector.

by Anonymousreply 14May 5, 2021 7:12 AM

Yes some of his art collection is credited in Lust for Life I think.

Love this psychodrama.

My favorite golden age of Hollywood actor.

by Anonymousreply 17July 24, 2022 3:47 AM

OP: you are CLEARLY an Eldergay. Good 'onya

by Anonymousreply 18July 24, 2022 4:03 AM

R16 I wonder if that film inspired David lynch with twin peaks. It’s just my impression when I watched it.

by Anonymousreply 19July 24, 2022 4:28 AM

It's Edmund, not Edward.
