The torch is passed... Celine is the world widow champion of the casket dance
by Anonymous | reply 357 | January 16, 2019 1:46 AM |
She was glorious and GORGEOUS! Who was she wearing?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 23, 2016 4:43 AM |
This shameless cunt had 13 cameras set up in the church. 13?!
Rene-Charles is 14 and his hairline is already receding.
And she named her twins Nelson and Eddy?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 23, 2016 4:43 AM |
Bitch thinks she's Jackie O when she married a man who diddled her underage pussy. He'd been her manager since she was 12!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 23, 2016 4:48 AM |
Mais oui, her heart will go on. AND it will be going on with many, many, MANY more millions of $$$, now that that gambling-addled, loser, POS husband of hers is gone.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 23, 2016 4:50 AM |
Is painfully obvious she hasn't had any work done.

Let's send Celine the condolence gift of a chemical peel. Her crepey chin is really not a good look.

It is so creepy how she made it a public event of grand proportions...
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 23, 2016 5:20 AM |
Why are the twin boys dressed like mini-Michael Jacksons?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 23, 2016 5:22 AM |

We should have guessed that Rene planned this.
His 13 cameras closing in on Celine was a bit cruel, though.

(moves phlegm) What? Hello... this is a very special Larry King Live as we bring you extended coverage from the funeral of Rene Angellily, dead husband of singing sensation Celine . It's a jam packed hour with live reports from the funeral in Paris - what? Oh - Montreal... Nancy Grace joins us later to speculate on the will... but first.... James Cameron... producer of Titanic. James... you didn't even like that song, did ya? You must feel bad tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 23, 2016 6:06 AM |
Come on , bitches ! Give her a pass on this one ,she just lost her brother too. She looks rough , and who can blame her ? One thing about death ,you can know its coming , but when it happens it still hurts like a motherfucker .
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 23, 2016 6:09 AM |
I'd forgotten she lost her brother as well.
But she still looks like my ugly long second toe, the one long enough to be the creepiest little finger.
But my toe can't sing.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 23, 2016 6:13 AM |
She's fabulous!!!! I so wish I was there to condole her personally. It would have been the pinnacle of my condoling career.

Horace Vandergelder gimme a sign.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 23, 2016 6:22 AM |
Was this televised in Canada? Is Celine treated like royalty up there? Because, this dirty old man she married isn't really a celebrity in real countries.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 23, 2016 6:25 AM |
So is she adding the casket dance to her Vegas show?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 23, 2016 6:26 AM |
She could use some fillers.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 23, 2016 6:27 AM |
Celine is only 47, but her chin is severly lined. Her five-year old boys look like they're off to see the Wizard. And they look like little French Rapunzel dolls with the flowing long hair.
But the funeral should win an Oscar for the best dignified spectacle.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 23, 2016 6:27 AM |
WTF with that big herd at the wake? Was he that big in Canada? It looks like a head of state died. Weird. And those twins are cute but what is with the waist length hair?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 23, 2016 6:29 AM |
That is some fucking insane shit. They'll be less of a spectacle at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. It's basically a state funeral for some old perv who was married to a singer.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 23, 2016 6:34 AM |
Just think what Ana Gasteyer could do with this.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 23, 2016 6:44 AM |
I look forward to the resumption of her Vegas residency, where she'll be appropriately attired in widow's weeds for a year.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 23, 2016 6:58 AM |
Let Celine grieve anyway she chooses. It is bad karma to criticize how one mourns.
I've attended Chinese funerals where the family hires professional mourners, preferably actors, to moan, wail and groan during the funeral service. It is traditional to their culture. I keep my mouth shut. i do not commentand just watch the unfolding entertainment.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 23, 2016 7:09 AM |
[quote]I look forward to the resumption of her Vegas residency, where she'll be appropriately attired in widow's weeds for a year.
Not hardly. She'll do the classic line;
"Hello everybody. This is Mrs Norman Maine... err, rather... Mrs. René Angélil"
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 23, 2016 7:13 AM |
Don't blame Celine. Her considerate husband planned the whole thing meticulously. All Celine had to do wasshow up with the kids.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 23, 2016 7:42 AM |
Can some Canadians answer this? Was he really that huge in Canada to warrant all this? His just being the husband of a huge celebrity. And doesn't anyone in Canada find the whole relationship creepy? He met her at 12 ( didn't she move in with him and his family?) and then he divorced his wife to be with the teenager he had been managing. I just seriously don't get this. And I hate to question her on this, but at any point in the last two days did anyone see her actually shed a tear? She might have, I just don't have access to the round the clock live coverage on this thing not would I have watched it if I did. You know, when the tabs reported his huge gambling debts, they also reported that he irritated the female workers in the casinos by being way to touchy feely. He just didn't strike me as being that upstanding as a husband. What is his rep in Canada? TIA
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 23, 2016 7:55 AM |
This is the only place I heard of it. Guess Celine is non news outside her native place.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 23, 2016 8:00 AM |
She looks haggard. At least make yourself look pretty for the camera or is it too much for a woman her age ?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 23, 2016 8:04 AM |
She's a pro and a trooper. I want her on my team.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 23, 2016 8:07 AM |

Canadian here: apparently they are huge in Quebec even though the states is home, but the rest of the country... he wouldn't have gotten that funeral or attention anywhere else in Canada. Quebec is a distinct culture in many respects and is very passionate about their homegrown success stories.

by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 23, 2016 2:32 PM |
I really hope she can get on with her life and date someone even younger than her. Rene stole her youth. She needs to go and reclaim it. Best of luck, Celine.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 23, 2016 2:36 PM |
In grotesquerie that funeral reminds me of the DL predictions for Michael Jackson's funeral (the Widow Feldman leading the mourning ... Elizabeth Taylor entering on a diamond-encrusted jazzy ... Bubbles ...). The fact that her teenaged son looks 10 years older makes her look all the more the part of the eternal dowager. She's going to have to use hormones on her symmetrical midget twins to keep them the right bookend height for her public appearances.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 23, 2016 2:41 PM |
Oh, please R71! For all we know she was MARRIED to someone who adored her and the very ground she walked on. His interests were for only for her happiness. You wish that she was with someone who was nearly as young as she? Someone who is still trying to find themselves, etc?
Youth is GREAT, but for the most part it's a lot of aggravation too.

R113, the guy is probably one of Celine's brothers or a brother in law. She's one of 14 siblings.
The family is enormous, previously very poor and very VERY Catholic. She might really think this is how a funeral should be, veils, wailing and all. It's possible this is a hearfelt tribute from her.

The ND Basilica is not downtown. It's in Old Montreal, which is next to the river. Downtown is more inland on the island of Montreal. St Joseph's Oratory is on Mont-Royal, on the other side of the hill.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | January 23, 2016 9:12 PM |
And old Montreal is much closer to downtown. Notre Dame is also a few steps from a metro station. The Oratory much farther, and up a huge hill.

[quote]Quebec is a distinct culture in many respects and is very passionate about their homegrown success stories.
Has anyone outside of DL brought up Angelil's pedophilia, if not ephebophilia ? Or maybe the Québécois think it's par for the course and just don't give a shit if one of theirs commits gross victimization just as long as it brings fame and accolades to a normally morally derelict region?
Perhaps he planned his own funeral since the Dion family members who might have stepped in when Celine was overwhelmed would have known the truth about the man who stepped in and charmed and glommed onto a poor and vulnerable adolescent from a poor and vulnerable family. He took heavy advantage and still needs to control his narrative to the grave.
There's nothing to change the fact that he's a pedophile/ephebophile and gambling addict who found a young, poor, and talented ingenue who could sustain all of his predilections and addictions and even fund him in his death. And even mourn the fucker.

I have a hard time being cynical about Celine. Like r122 said, she's mawkish and dopey, but sincere. Her voice really is very good, though she's chosen dreadful material more often than not.
There's something very charming about her. Here she is at 15, learning to speak English at Berlitz:

Angelil is a bully. He totally controlled the press in Quebec and in part Canada as well in regards to Celine. He was like a mafioso.
A respected reporter wrote an unauthorized biography on Celine and Angelil back in the 1980s or early 90s. Anyway, the book became a scandal because it detailed everything about their icky relationship. Of course, Angelil went after him. The book was pulled from circulation. The reporter was blacklisted for a certain time. Threats were made against him. A year or so later, the reporter was now under the payroll of the couple, their "official" biographer, and the book was available again but totally revised and censored from front to back, with no scandalous info in it. No one could take the reporter seriously after that.
This is the stuff no one is talking about.

by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 23, 2016 9:41 PM |
The point isn't that she is mawkish and has retained a passable sincerity. I've ripped her and hide my ears from her crazy singing. The conduct of this funeral shows how over-the-top ridiculous she and her ilk are. Naivete, given enough money, inevitably becomes something other than charming. It becomes garishly entitled and embarrassing. Just as her music is vulgar (not that there's anything wrong with vulgarity in itself), her family "looky me boo hoo and you better like it" bullshit is vulgar.
The funeral extravaganza was tasteless and absurd. A cynical person would have had the sense not to wiggle her family delusions before the world. And the government of people of Québec, so hungry for any attention, opted to plop Vegas into their basilica.
Of course in today's world and at the DL there is little point in making these comments, because people neither understand or respect the longstanding conventions in place that prevent display and protect the true grief inside the show.
But, God, Nancy IS beside herself. What's left of her. She probably just altered her own arrangements to ensure that Little Ron collapses at her bier.

Yes, everyone talks about his child touching especially there. It's usually followed by talks of her original teeth and what a backwards dump Charlemagne is. People much farther north from very remote areas talk about how hillbilly Charlemagne is a town. Charlemagne is not so far from Centre-ville (downtown) Montreal. Remote and isolated doesn't equal backwards there. People are basically saying that to let a ME man take your daughter is the same as giving her to a caravan of Gypsies. It's rare to find people Celines's age to come from those big Catholic many children families. All of those people are dead now. Quebec threw out the Catholic Church in the mid 60s. It was radical. It now has 0% population growth like Germany. Gay marriage has been legal forever and straights never get married or go near a church. Their families are usually commonlaw. No weddings but big vacation on Cuban beach. The only people left to support the Catholic Church is your Italian population. Most of those old churches converted into to die for condos with original stained glassed windows intact. They had and have an over the top percentage gay population there. There's a saying if you throw a rock in Montreal, you will break a church's stain glass window.

Haha at Rene Charles being home schooled by Circque. Yeah, I was surprised how heavy an accent for someone so young and living in the States. It seems like he spent a lot of time with his grandparents and up there. I actually think he was hardly around Rene who was not his biological father. That marriage hit the skids long ago and it is telling how RC said he was "getting to know" Rene. Obviously RC was raised in Quebec. Celine thinks we're all so stupid and uneducated as her. Census is Rene was a creeper. This funeral is all about her. Nobody really cares about Rene.

The Dion family is actually First Nations, partially. The Mik'maq tribe way north where they hail from. They come from a village called Seal Cove, earlier known as Indian Cove. There's no way she and Rene could possibly genetically spawn a whitish kid like René Charles. His older children turned out dark with even a blue eyed blond mom. Her First Nation percentage is rather high.

R163, that's partially true. Indian Cove now Seal Cove was an Eskimo (seal, der) community amongst the Algonquin Mikmaqs. It's really a play on Inuit Cove. Ok, I love the term casket dance. But I'm Canadian and Celine is one of own. She comes from a very large family and has been singing to us for years before Americans discovered her. She's french and maybe her over the top doesn't translate well. Having seen her pictures and videos for many years (she's my age) she's mourning, definite grief. She doesn't seem to be playing a part as much as she's recognizing her place as a French and Canadian figure. Like everyone, I think Canadians expected him to die before her. It's just sad to see her grief even though she knew it was coming.

Some of you are making note of her child's heavy french accent. Isn't it possible that french could have been mostly spoken in the home since Quebec is VERY French, and maybe her other relatives do not really speak very much english? The kids may be given their school lessons in french too. Finally, I don't know about the father, but all of her children resemble her, (in my opinion), and I'm more inclined to believe that she is indeed their mother.

That much is true. I remember she was some sort of video guest on that Howie Mandel game show. The contestant had to decide whether to take her $25k winnings or go on. The husband was like "take it!"
Celine came on, and--I assume much to the chagrin of the producers--agreed, saying "listen to your husband. $25k is a lot of money. Think of what you could do with it."
It struck me that she could still relate to the women's family despite her crazy wealth and that the show is obviously set up for maximum drama.

The woman is appropriately grieving in a world that no longer can be bothered to respect the dead. No one even wants to take 5 minutes, never mind a few days, to reflect on a loss and truly mourn. It's much too inconvenient. That's why you have ridiculous healing and celebration services scheduled just one day after tragedies when there should be real funerals.

His accent is from living in Quebec. It is even more pronounced than French speakers who learn English 35+ years. So sure he was shuttled back and forth via private jet. Celine was running a big show at Caesars and Rene was deep in a gambling addiction. Hardcore addict. I'm sure she protected her son by sending him back home to her family. Because of the gambling, he was not a hands on father as evident in the son's speech.
Nobody gives a rat's 'taint about Rene. No one. No one here, no one there. This whole spectacle is to honor one person only. Celine.
May she finally live to be her true self. Rene cheated left and right and put her into millions of $ in debt. He was a scumbag. Everyone knows it. It's actually a celebration of her freedom and a tip off to her brother's demise. May she rise from the ashes.

2002 -- Celine Dion's Husband Sued for Assault
A civil suit has been filed against Canadian singer Celine Dion's manager/husband, Rene Angelil, 60, by a Los Angeles woman who claims he fondled her in an elevator and then sexually assaulted her in her Las Vegas hotel room two years ago, Reuters reports. Angelil's Los Angeles lawyer Marty Singer called the charges "a complete fabrication" in an interview with Reuters. The lawyer said that although his client paid a confidential monetary settlement to the woman to keep the accusations quiet at a time when Angelil was battling cancer and Dion, 33, was undergoing complicated fertility treatments, he was now ready to refute the charges in court. Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon, an ordained minister of the Full Gospel World Church, and her husband, Ae Kwon, filed a complaint on March 16, according to Reuters, accusing Angelil with assaulting her in March 2000. Reuters reports that the couple are seeking unspecified damages for assault, sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false imprisonment. The suit claims that Kwon was gambling at Caesar's Palace on March 18, 2000 when Angelil introduced himself, reports Reuters. Later that night, Angelil approached Kwon again and offered her concert tickets. The suit alleges that Angelil followed Kwon back to the Imperial Palace, where she was a guest, and into an elevator where he fondled her, according to Reuters. Kwon accuses Angelil of forcing his way into her hotel room and assaulting her, the complaint charges. Although Kwon called hotel security, reports Reuters, the alleged assault was never reported to the Las Vegas police. Angelil, in a statement, vowed to fight the lawsuit and force the Kwons to repay all of the earlier settlement money they had received, which he plans to give to charity.

R212, I think the grief is genuine because he died of cancer. One always feels robbed when cancer is the culprit. Plus her brother died 2 days later.. I think the Quebec govt. allowed this to be a state funeral because of all the money it would bring into Montreal. The winter carnival is kicking off in Quebec City so Montreal is trying to grab some bucks for itself. They fill hotels and restaurants with all of the press and mourners. It's a show of respect but also a money grab by government officials.

I really don't want to get in the middle of this flame war, but I don't see any"black-lined" posts, R242. I've seen them in other posts, though. I thought it meant that those are the posts of someone who has "Ignored" you, not vice versa, and not someone who has been F&Fed necessarily. Those rumors aren't true but who the fuck cares, right? Celine Dion is a lesbian and a slut on DL. She is not a lesbian. Those who know her hope that she had a little love with JJ Goldman or Garou. Actually she did, with one of them. For quite some time.

by Anonymous | reply 262 | January 24, 2016 2:39 PM |
Yes, she showed dignity, but because of the setting and staging it seemed like a bizarre overlay of performance over reality, or the other way around. Her dignity was so relentlessly grand. But I don't think anyone knocking this affaire absurde questions her being a grieving widow.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | January 24, 2016 2:42 PM |
The funeral was waaay over the top R260, but she really should be given a lot of credit for staying as long as she did at the wake and greeting each mourner, whether they be a fan or celebrity, personally. How many of the famous would do that? Also, its been a long time since I've seen a funeral where the vast majority wore black and were dressed properly.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | January 24, 2016 2:43 PM |
R264, but it has never been considered needed or even appropriate for a widow at a funeral to "greet" people at the public event. This was just their "fan handling" mode kicking in. Not that it was inappropriate - the whole thing just has to be seen as an old-fashioned entertainment industry funeral. What makes it hard to remember that is the grand old-world stylings pulled in.

R277, what helped me was "It's Vegas on the road in Quebec," and then it all cleared up. This was just a Vegas Circque performance in a temporary venue, and in winter you can get churches there cheap. Because no widow who wasn't just playing dress up would show up the next day for her brother's memorial in half-mourning garb, as someone rightly pointed out. They don't have a clue about the conventions they're merely imitating for show-biz values. NOT that the grief isn't real. Somewhere.
Does anyone know when Celine plans to start performing again?

R283, applauding someone who switches from full mourning to half/non-mourning the next for her brother's memorial should not be considered.
She should be granted the lack of attention appropriate to people in mourning - something that she seems unaware of - and talked about behind her back for her disgraceful lack of grace and decorum in playing show-off at a time when she should keep out of the public eye.
Obviously she and her handlers are unconcerned about the traditions they are debasing - she's a lounge singer from the wrong side of the tracks who married her abusing controller and made a fortune warbling like an over-the-top sparrow spray-painted pink.

Why didn't she let her hair down for her husband's funeral? She looked much better at her brother's funeral, or whatever family viewing of dead bodies is called (is that a Canadian thing?). And cut your kids hair! They're not Fabio.

I'll give her a pass especially when considering her brother's death happening so close. That's a special club. Not many people experience dealing with the death of loved ones so close together. I had a great uncle who buried his son, and the very next morning his daughter, (she attended her brother's funeral), died.
Her dress, and the color of it, were appropriate for her brother. Besides, this was just the wake. They still have to have the funeral for him.

[quote]family viewing of dead bodies is called (is that a Canadian thing?)
We call it the visitation... 2 -4, 7 - 9 at the funeral home. Usually just one day. Two if you're important. The family stands in the room, visitors sign the book, view the body and condole. Funeral follows the next day. Don't Americans do this?
by Anonymous | reply 299 | January 25, 2016 2:02 AM |
Americans do it -- it's a Catholic thing in California, but I think everyone in the south does it.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | January 25, 2016 2:06 AM |

Eyeglasses are to have the deceased resemble his living self.
Man, I had no idea so many were clueless about funeral ceremonies, attire of mourners, modern traditions of recordng the funeral or taking photos in memoriam, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | January 25, 2016 2:25 AM |
American Catholics have a wake during the late afternoon to mid-evening, with the recitation of the rosary being the center and highlight of the evening. Usually, other prayers, as well as testimonies by loved ones, are included. The following day, there is a final viewing in the morning before the casket is closed, followed by a funeral Mass (which is usually very beautiful and austere), with hymns such as the Ave Maria being sung. Finally, there is the procession to the cemetery, followed by the burial ceremony (no one actually gets to see the casket lowered into the ground, I guess to prevent people from hurling themselves in there like the olden days), and then the funeral reception, where tons of food is usually served either at the family's home or at another appropriate location.
They are very exhausting.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | January 25, 2016 2:36 AM |
R303, yes, but in my Catholic family it was usual to have two days at the funeral home (unless the body was kept at the house, which also was done at times, or laid out in the church, which also is done). In those two-day viewings and then the funeral the next day, there is a rosary both days, and sometimes twice each day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. If the priest shows he also leads prayers. And if the person was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Malta, or another of the pseudo-"we're not Masons but this is close" organizations, another special ceremony is conducted at the funeral home. FInally, if the person was a member of such organizations as the Legion of Mary, the Christian Mothers, the Benevolent Society, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and/or others, those groups also would assemble for additional prayers, and one would guide the rosaries.
Funeral masses may be considered austere but properly include incense and prayers at the door, then a procession down the aisle for the Mass (with tall candles lining both sides of the box, followed by another stop at the door for more incense, prayers and holy water before the exit.
Good Catholic funeral processions include both the trip to the church and then the trip to the cemetery, the latter often including a pass through the neighborhood and the person's house.
Not to detract further from your excellent post, you did skimp a bit on what the funeral luncheon and reception usually entails. The reception often takes place at the church (parish center, church basement), so everyone has to return to the site of the funeral Mass. THEN, after the church ladies serve everyone, a second reception takes place at the house of the family member hosting everyone. More food, lots of booze, then more food, and eventually an extended drinking session (often now augmented by pot, at least, among the younger set) in which all sorts of things happen, from brawls to revelations of secrets to odd make-out sessions.
In the most traditional families, someone does indeed stay for the actual burial, and the family members often returns to the cemetery the next day.
But does that sound exhausting to you? Think of it as a Bizarro version of a wedding but in place of a tedious Bridezilla the main focus is a quiet corpse that does not intrude on the proceedings. Unless, as I once saw, the coffin is dropped on the church steps.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | January 25, 2016 3:13 AM |
Thanks for the additional details, R304! I have never experienced a wake being held in the home, but I know they still take place. It would give me a serious case of the hebes if I knew I had to pass by a corpse on my way to take a leak. I've also never experienced a double reception (one at the Church and another at the home). In my neck of the woods, it's always one or the other, but they last for *hours*.
I've been a pall bearer, and my fear has always been to drop the casket. Although I did trip once and came pretty close, LOL (sorry, grandma!). That must've been a sight to behold! I hope nothing rolled out...
I forgot to mention the open casket at the wake, where the guests line up and the closest family members and friends usually kiss the corpse (on the lips, cheeks, forehead, etc) and then stay to take pictures (with the corpse!) afterwards. It freaks the living fuck out of me every time. You always walk away with that particular stinging taste on your lips and that particular smell in your nostrils. Ack.
Do other religions have this?
by Anonymous | reply 305 | January 25, 2016 3:28 AM |
I apologize for being a know-it-all, R03. I just enjoy funerals. So long as I don't have a stake in them.
I never kissed a corpse. I'll pat a hand and shoo a fly if I have to.
The two-day lay-out is receding in popularity because people are cheap. Other religions that do it big are the Orthodox Christians - I went to a Greek funeral in 2002 that I think is still going on. Blacks have epic funerals. Nothing starts on time (biracial here so don't come at me), people come and go, you have to have at least two collapses, and the food never stops afterwards. Jewish funerals I've been to have had the best food - catered - but they've been Reform so there's been shorter services and better clothes. Orthodox Jews and Muslims want to get the burial done very fast, but the after-events go on a long time. I've only known one Jewish family that sat Shiva, so technically the event lasted seven days, the family all in the same house with the mirrors covered and people coming and going. Talk about exhausting.
I was a good Catholic altar boy and loved funerals because I'd get out of school and travel in a limo with the priest. Outdoor incense is a bitch to light - well, you light the charcoal - but we had black Dracula-style silk and velvet capes to wear over the cassock and surplice and as I'd ride in the limo I felt like something out of a vampire movie. Except for all the crucifixes.
In all my "work" funerals I only saw one leap into the grave. Italian. First one son and then a daughter, not wanting to be shown up. "Take me with her! Bury me with her! My life is over!" I was mortified. The priest calmly waiting, whispering that it was "traditional."
Again, please excuse me and none of this has anything to do with the Widow Angelil's travesty. What a ghastly show - less Catholic than Vegas parody of Catholic.

Avreed, r303. At my mother's funeral Mass last October, I had Schubert's "Ave Maria" played. Her name was Marie (I'm watching "Goodfellas" now, and had to laugh at the wedding reception scene where the new Mrs. Hill says, "And it seemed all the women were named Marie.").

The 2-day funeral might or might not be "receding." My cousin in January had this, as did an uncle who was very popular. My mother, I had the viewing in the church the same burial day.
It sometimes is a matter of convenience for the expected visitors, but often it seems to be what appointment times are available to be co-ordinated.
Back to Celine: She was not going to be less "her" than she was on her wedding day in the same cathedral.
And the boys' hair length seems very "European royalty" to me.

[quote] I don't think Jews or Muslims show off the body the way Catholics do.
Observant (unassimilated) Jews do not do open casket out of respect for the dead nor cremation. Body is washed, wrapped in a shroud and buried within 24 hours. 7 days of mourning (where the word "shiva" - seven - comes from), where the immediate family - wife/husband/kids/brothers/sister/parents - sits on the floor or on low chairs and receives condolers. Non-bereaved family/friends/neighbors provide food and take care of everything during shiva. A minyan (quorum of 10 men over the age of 13) is held at least once a day in the home so that the bereaved can say Kaddish, the prayer for the death, which they will recite daily for 11 months and then several times a year for the rest of their lives.

R324, not a fan of her music, but I remember watching that mess when it happened, and I immediately became of a fan of her professionalism.

She speaks!
"My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who, (it was actually cries for mercy), have touched our lives during these past few days," (did we have a choice?) her letter read. "We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion, (only pleas to go away), have helped us during this most difficult time... more than you'll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Oh! More to come next week in Vegas!!!!

Did we ever find out why her toddlers have hair all the way down their backs?
by Anonymous | reply 335 | January 30, 2016 4:30 PM |
Probably just bad taste regarding hair for children...
by Anonymous | reply 336 | January 31, 2016 1:16 PM |
Aha, hair mystery solved. She lets the kids make their own decisions about hair.
And her 5 year old, Nelson, likes to wear her heels. She says he looks better in them than she does. Refreshingly, she doesn't mention the word "trans" once in regard to him. She seems to be fine with having a potentially gay son.

Oh, that thought was crawling around in your head too, because that's all I saw.
LOL.

R189) I saw that episode, and she indeed shocked me how down to earth she appeared. I am jaded, and I don't fall for this.
R200) I so agree with everything you said.

Exactly when does the mourning period end for French Canadian women?
by Anonymous | reply 349 | August 12, 2016 4:33 AM |
She is currently on a Quebec and Paris tour. In her recent Montreal shows she begins to weep in the opening number and apparently carries through the entire show in tears, no costume changes or anything. La veuve Angelil indeed.

That mole on Celine's neck looks mighty suspicious.
She should have it looked at.
