The countries of Sweden, Denmark and Norway are "Scandinavian", not "Nordic". "Nordic" is the technical term which was used by American and Scandinavian Eugenicists for the blond and blue eyed race, the Germans called "Aryan". Sweden had the oldest race hygiene law in the world in order to protect the "Nordic" race. Next was California, then 30 US states, then Nazi Germany. The Swedish race hygiene law was the last which was abandonned - in 1976.

With the rise of Hitler, Nordic theory became the norm within German culture. In some cases the "Nordic" concept became an almost abstract ideal rather than a mere racial category.

I visited Finland last month and I was surprised how ordinary looking Finns are compared to Swedish or Norwegian men. Not one tall, blonde, good looking man in Helsinki. Most of them were rather short and pale with light brown hair and ugly faces. I guess the long border with Russia is a disadvantage for the Finnish gene pool.
