How did you first discover DL?

I first discovered DL, whilst searching for a film. And read one of the dl threads and liked the place so I stayed.

by Anonymousreply 143March 22, 2020 12:00 AM

I googled "Lucy and Desi gossip."

by Anonymousreply 1August 19, 2015 6:00 AM

2003, I liked to read Michelangelo Signorile's site. And he'd recommended DL since 2001, but I never bothered to check it out. Then he got a radio show in 2003 and had two representatives from DL on it. That's what prompted me to finally check it out, and it blew me away so much I stayed on it for nearly 3 days without sleep. Totally blew away the AOL chat rooms I was used to.

by Anonymousreply 2August 19, 2015 6:08 AM

I googled 'Red Dragon Cheese'

by Anonymousreply 3August 19, 2015 6:13 AM

Googled "Is Kenny Chesney gay?"

by Anonymousreply 4August 19, 2015 6:17 AM

Googled "Films You've Discovered, Hidden Gems" in March 2014. The DL link was the second result. The sofas are comfy, the snacks and drugs adequate, the posts have their moments, so I continue to lurk.

by Anonymousreply 5August 19, 2015 6:19 AM

Sofas? Snacks? What the fuck are you talking about?

by Anonymousreply 6August 19, 2015 6:26 AM

He just discovered DL!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 7August 19, 2015 6:29 AM

I found DL while searching for Gillian Anderson gossip (yes, typical lesbian), and stayed.

The first time I posted was about Pistorius.

I may have stumbled on the site before, while searching for gossip on old Hollywood. And I'm 37.

by Anonymousreply 8August 19, 2015 6:37 AM

I think I googled "golden age Hollywood gossip" early 2001.

by Anonymousreply 9August 19, 2015 6:55 AM

Ted Casablanca made a passing reference to the site in 2000. I found him annoying for the most part, but must credit him for getting me to one of my favorite sites. Yes, still!

by Anonymousreply 10August 19, 2015 7:07 AM

It was a hot tip from a guy on "DaddyDater."

by Anonymousreply 11August 19, 2015 10:35 AM

I was googling a Broadway chorus boy and that search brought me here.

by Anonymousreply 12August 19, 2015 10:37 AM

I saw a comment on Unzipped Blog in about 2009 saying there was a large thread here with an anonymous porn star answering questions.

by Anonymousreply 13August 19, 2015 10:57 AM

r13 I mean The defunct Unzipped blog Zach Sire used to write prior to The Sword and Str8UpGayPorn. I see there are other blogs with the same name now.

by Anonymousreply 14August 19, 2015 11:13 AM

I googled something about a semi-famous acquaintance.

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2015 11:17 AM

Googled Tom Bierdz gay

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2015 12:17 PM

I have a friend, Julie she's called. She said I'd have fun here, that it's a nice laid-back crowd.

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2015 2:55 PM

I googled my name and you bitches were talking about me...

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2015 2:57 PM

I saw a shout out on the Night Charms website, remember that one? back in around 2004 or so. The quotes were all so mean and birchy, I had to check it out.

by Anonymousreply 19August 19, 2015 3:48 PM

R19: "mean and birchy"? So THAT'S what the T in LGBT stands for. TREES!

by Anonymousreply 20August 19, 2015 3:53 PM

I wish I could remember. I guess I was just clicking around, and through Providence arrived!

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2015 3:55 PM

I think hosiery is something which is very magical in my world... and I'm veering off into complete poetry now.

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2015 3:57 PM

2007, I saw a link for DL in a TWOP forum on American Idol. Came for the gossip, stayed for the... Well, everything.

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2015 3:59 PM

1998/99. I was searching for something related to Christopher Meloni and "OZ " and stumbled upon a thread here with a photo of him kissing Lee Tergesen at some awards ceremony.

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2015 4:04 PM

Right at the beginning of the Jody/Jon wedding saga. I was riveted from the beginning. Although an EST, it was like a great soap opera.

As I followed for days, I was in a sedate coffee shop early on a Sunday morning eagerly checking in on the latest developments. I had to stifle outright laughter as it was really getting thick at that point. It wasn't long before a very mature and well dressed gentleman appeared at my table. He asked me, "Would It help to talk about it?"

I looked up in a moment of confusion, then quickly realized he thought I was crying and probably reading a break up email or something.

That set me off in out loud laughter. He was a bit taken aback. I vaguely explained I was reading something funny. From that day, we became very casual coffee shop friends.

Still here and love DL, warts and all.

I was lead to DL by a simple celebrity gossip google.

by Anonymousreply 25August 19, 2015 4:09 PM

Ugh," led," not "lead."

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2015 4:12 PM

'It wasn't long before a very mature and well dressed gentleman appeared at my table. He asked me, "Would It help to talk about it?"

That was DL's beloved Bronze Age Gay!

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2015 4:13 PM

I was exploring the depths of the Deep Web, and when I surfaced, I mysteriously wound up here.

by Anonymousreply 28August 19, 2015 4:13 PM

Lol, r27. Wouldn't that be the crowning touch to finding DL?

by Anonymousreply 29August 19, 2015 4:16 PM

I googled "how to make sure you don't get shit on a man's dick when you bottom"

by Anonymousreply 30August 19, 2015 4:24 PM

I found it once as I mentioned above but didn't use it much - then I found it again when I was googling "brad kalvo got fat"

by Anonymousreply 31August 19, 2015 4:43 PM

Soapzone during the General Hospital Carly/Sonny/Jason saga

by Anonymousreply 32August 19, 2015 4:52 PM

I googled if Stana Katic was gay and it led me here.

by Anonymousreply 33August 19, 2015 5:01 PM

I googled "Lauren Bacall cunt"

by Anonymousreply 34August 19, 2015 5:15 PM

I was looking for naked actors. I'm sure "big cock" was also somewhere in the search.

by Anonymousreply 35August 19, 2015 5:20 PM

It was 2004 and Michael Musto mentioned it in one of his columns in the Village Voice. I followed the link and have been here ever since.

by Anonymousreply 36August 19, 2015 5:23 PM

It was from a link from some post on LiveJournal marveling at the circus sideshow of Domlijah shippers during the height of the Prancing Pony craze. That must have been nearly 15 years ago. You bitches have been stuck with me ever since.

by Anonymousreply 37August 19, 2015 5:23 PM

I googled 'Margarine Fountain'

by Anonymousreply 38August 19, 2015 5:28 PM

I Googled 'Murderous Fatty on the Lam Rumored to be on Craigslist M4M So Look Out Bitches'

by Anonymousreply 39August 19, 2015 5:30 PM

I used to read agc and asg on Usenet. Someone recommended the DL. That was at least 15, probably closer to 20, years ago.

by Anonymousreply 40August 19, 2015 5:32 PM

I found it when I googled "Brad kalvo got fat at a margarine fountain at Betty Bacall's when she was serving him Highpoint Coffee"

by Anonymousreply 41August 19, 2015 5:32 PM

I used to follow the "Table Talk" boards on Salon around 1999. DL not so fave David Ehrenstein showed up on a lot of the ones involving gay issues; when those boards started circling the drain he signed off, saying he would be at Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 42August 19, 2015 5:35 PM

Through links on PlanetOut, which had a link to Trudy and the old message board. Hooked in 1995.

by Anonymousreply 43August 19, 2015 5:38 PM

I had a fuckbuddy that is also, semi-famous, but usually disliked by everyone on anonymous forums. His web presence is almost non existant now. So, googling his name, sent me here. And true to his public image, he was disliked on this site also. I still wonder, had I not moved to another country, if anything would have happened in having a long term relationship. . .

by Anonymousreply 44August 19, 2015 5:39 PM

Someone on Fametracker talked about the DL in a Jennifer Garner thread. I checked what is all about and got hooked.

by Anonymousreply 45August 19, 2015 5:51 PM

Anna Marie Cox called you bitchy heartless queens in 2002 and you told me Mitch Pileggi was a big bush supporter and major pussy hound.

by Anonymousreply 46August 19, 2015 5:57 PM

Is David Ehrenstein still posting here?

by Anonymousreply 47August 19, 2015 6:38 PM

I did a search for Norma Shearer

by Anonymousreply 48August 19, 2015 6:40 PM

I was looking for some gay gossip about Dirk Benedict, and I stumbled upon this site. My life has never been the same.

by Anonymousreply 49August 19, 2015 6:41 PM

I googled "NPH hate."

by Anonymousreply 50August 19, 2015 7:10 PM

I googled, "reverse racism" & "men who hate women with unjustifiable intense hatred"

by Anonymousreply 51August 19, 2015 7:16 PM

Who was your fuckbuddy, R44?

by Anonymousreply 52August 19, 2015 7:45 PM

Came here during the Prancing Pony insanity. Laughed my ass off and have never left.

by Anonymousreply 53August 19, 2015 7:51 PM

The person who does my PR discovered a thread about me on here and forwarded it to me to read. This was back in 2004. I never left. Luckily, you're still talking about me.

by Anonymousreply 54August 19, 2015 7:55 PM

Rosie O'Donnell mentioned DL in a blurb in the Advocate sometime in 2000, and I've been here ever since.

by Anonymousreply 55August 19, 2015 7:59 PM

R54 how much are you making per scene these days?

by Anonymousreply 56August 19, 2015 8:01 PM

[quote] The person who does my PR discovered a thread about me on here and forwarded it to me to read. This was back in 2004. I never left. Luckily, you're still talking about me.

Lee? Lee, is that you?

by Anonymousreply 57August 19, 2015 8:04 PM

I saw a sitcom documentary that discussed tension in the set between Charlotte Rae & Geri Jewell. I googled for more info and found an amazing DL thread on the subject. Don't recall the year

by Anonymousreply 58August 19, 2015 8:11 PM

Burt Reynolds? Is R54 Mr Burt Reynolds?

by Anonymousreply 59August 19, 2015 8:19 PM

Can't remember when or why I ended up here, but I was hooked after the very first "Oh, dear" I came across.

by Anonymousreply 60August 19, 2015 8:38 PM

I followed a link on someone's blog. Things are so much easier to follow on here than they are on Reddit.

by Anonymousreply 61August 19, 2015 8:45 PM

I googled "is X gay?". I can't remember who X was now, but I'm sure the Datalounge verdict was 100% gay.

by Anonymousreply 62August 19, 2015 8:46 PM

I Googled something political and wound up here. DL had its own political section at the time and the red tags.

by Anonymousreply 63August 19, 2015 8:53 PM

Only if X was hot and thin, R62. We don't claim the fatties.

by Anonymousreply 64August 19, 2015 10:02 PM

R18=Colton Haynes

I found this place googling LOTR gossip back in the Prancing Pony days. Never left.

by Anonymousreply 65August 19, 2015 10:11 PM

In April 2012 or so I googled "I hate Zoe Chace," who was a reporter on Planet Money for several years with the worst vocal fry and most awful flat Chicago-sounding accent I have ever heard. I found this hysterically funny community of NPR haters here at DL:

Turns out Zoe Chace made other people's ears bleed too, and they finally took her off the air a year or so ago! By then I had long stopped listening to Planet Money.

Sorry, don't know how to post links anymore since the site change.

There was a whole follow-up thread called NPR: The Good, Bad and the Ugly--which is also in the archive. So So I just hung around after that.

by Anonymousreply 66August 19, 2015 10:40 PM

That got messed up. Maybe this will give the link.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67August 19, 2015 10:43 PM

The Sullygate Bareback City drama of late 2000 - I believe it was - via gossip.alt or celebrity.alt.

by Anonymousreply 68August 19, 2015 10:45 PM

I googled one of these:

"Jamie Dornan gay"

"Garrett Neff gay"

"Nick Ayler gay"

"Chace Crawford gay"

"Penn Badgley gay"

by Anonymousreply 69August 19, 2015 10:45 PM

[quote][R18]=Colton Haynes

Ha. I wish. I'm not even remotely famous. People here were discussing something that my name was associated with. I guess since this board's threads rank high in google searches & there's not much about me online - it came up kinda high.

by Anonymousreply 70August 19, 2015 10:46 PM

Confirmed heterosexual Marcia Cross brought me here.

by Anonymousreply 71August 19, 2015 10:48 PM

Jon Link, Dallas' premiere wedding videographer and personal photographer to cock gobbler Aaron Schock, is that YOU at R70?

by Anonymousreply 72August 19, 2015 10:48 PM

Wonkette brought me here too.

I used to be an alt.showbiz.gossip regular but then I broke up with my boyfriend and it was his computer, so I missed a few years with that group. I imagine I still would have wound up here eventually if I hadn't.

by Anonymousreply 73August 19, 2015 11:02 PM

R73 reminded me: perhaps it was showbiz.alt.... it one of those alt sites.

by Anonymousreply 74August 19, 2015 11:13 PM

I stumbled onto Datalounge while searching for a support group. I thought I was the only one left that dialed my telephone with a pencil.

by Anonymousreply 75August 19, 2015 11:33 PM

Back in 1959 I Googled "Is Rock Hudson gay?"

by Anonymousreply 76August 20, 2015 12:08 AM

2006. Googled lesbian gym owner/reality flash in the pan Jackie Warner.

by Anonymousreply 77August 20, 2015 12:14 AM

I was at "Is He She Gay" but was never satisfied with the format.... And I tried to sign up for that other board, you know the one, and the webmaster would never respond to me. SO since all those people hated it here, I figured this had to be the place.

by Anonymousreply 78August 20, 2015 12:29 AM

Someone posted a link on style.com back in the 90s and I was hooked.

by Anonymousreply 79August 20, 2015 1:27 AM

From Towleroad, back in 2004/05.

by Anonymousreply 80August 20, 2015 3:40 AM

I'm from around 2001/02. I can't remember how I found the site, but I started coming here as well as ISHG.

by Anonymousreply 81August 20, 2015 3:47 AM

I googled some kind of celebrity gossip about three or four years ago and ended up here like a lot of others. Some of the replies were so funny and clever that I was convinced that there were professional comedians posting on here. There are a lot of thoughtful, intelligent posters as well as interesting topics.

by Anonymousreply 82August 20, 2015 3:58 AM

After monique didnt present best supporting actor oscar i googled her and comments on datalounge came up. Comments were hilarious and been coming back since.

by Anonymousreply 83August 20, 2015 4:07 AM

Like a number of folks, must have been googling some topic and 3 or 4 or 5 times this DL link came up. Then I realized it was a "varied" site with other topics and the rest is history. You need a pretty high tolerance for some of the wacky humour but it is ironically the humour, sarcasm, and actual information provided that continues to draw me.

by Anonymousreply 84August 20, 2015 4:33 AM

Blue Lotus sent me here. I think he later became Blue Agave.

by Anonymousreply 85August 20, 2015 5:35 AM

Googled "Evan Lysacek gay". That was five years ago; I can't believe I didn't know about this place sooner--I also read alt.showbiz.gossip and alt.gossip.celebrities back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 86August 20, 2015 6:16 AM

Turned left at Greenland.

by Anonymousreply 87August 20, 2015 6:26 AM

A friend emailed me a link in 1999. He thought I'd find it amusing; he was right. I've since punched and deleted said friend, so at least I got something besides some bad memories from the little turd.

by Anonymousreply 88August 20, 2015 6:33 AM

Found the Prancing Pony threads.

by Anonymousreply 89August 20, 2015 6:56 AM

Was googling for info about a friend's health symptoms and hit on an article in the health section of DL. Yes, DL once had seperate sections, e.g., health, legislation, gossip, politics.

From there I started reading the legislative section and then the political section. Finally started reading the gossip section. People would get really upset when posters posted in the wrong section. This was all back around1998 IIRC.

by Anonymousreply 90August 20, 2015 7:50 AM

'People would get really upset when posters posted in the wrong section.'

Any excuse!

by Anonymousreply 91August 20, 2015 9:16 AM

I'm not exactly sure but I think back before 2004 Liz Smith mentioned it in a column...

by Anonymousreply 92August 20, 2015 12:40 PM

When Elliot Rodger killed those people in California.

by Anonymousreply 93August 20, 2015 1:11 PM

Liz smith led many to the DL

by Anonymousreply 94August 20, 2015 1:33 PM

Read an article that described it as the "infamous gay gossip site DataLounge" and decided to check it out. This was back in 2005.

by Anonymousreply 95August 20, 2015 1:47 PM

I loved it

by Anonymousreply 96August 20, 2015 2:37 PM

2001, Musto mentioned it on Village Voice

by Anonymousreply 97August 20, 2015 2:42 PM

Been here since 2010. I was looking up an old movie from the 1930's, and this site came up.

by Anonymousreply 98August 20, 2015 4:39 PM

I was in a film in the 1930's , I realized that tattle tails were talking about us, and I found out why - on The Datalounge!

by Anonymousreply 99August 20, 2015 4:40 PM

I had been following the Robert Wone case at the Who Murdered Robert Wone website and one of the commenters there mentioned a thread here with lots of apparent inside information about the truple.

by Anonymousreply 100August 20, 2015 6:33 PM

Spilled a bottle of Feen-A-Mints.

by Anonymousreply 101August 21, 2015 3:06 AM

Mentioned in The Awful Truth in 1999; was lucky to have gotten here in the glory days....r.i.p. Blue Agave.

by Anonymousreply 102August 21, 2015 4:08 AM

I came here via some sort of gossip circa 1998/1999. I've been reading off and on since then, but more often in the past five years. And I've posted maybe a dozen times.

by Anonymousreply 103August 21, 2015 4:28 AM

Holy crap - I got WW for 18? Ha.

by Anonymousreply 104August 21, 2015 10:32 PM

I was searching for "gay billionaires". The thread below was one of the top results. Unfortunately I didn't find any rich guy on here, so I have to continue working :(

by Anonymousreply 106August 23, 2015 9:18 PM

I googled three years ago for rumors about troll faced Jeremy Renner chugging cock, and ended up here.

by Anonymousreply 107August 26, 2015 4:32 AM

a.

HomoXtra bar rag NYC.1999.

Been here for ages and I fucking hate the new layout.

by Anonymousreply 108August 26, 2015 4:45 AM

Was at a party, maybe late 1999, that Michael Musto was at and overheard him braying at someone "Oh honey! You can get better gossip than that at Datalounge". THe party was awful and I went home and found you guys

by Anonymousreply 109August 26, 2015 4:49 AM

I googled Trader Joe's v Whole Foods while doing a college project and found wonderfully cutting analysis. Thanks. Then I'd duckduckgo (which still allows Boolean search) every time I wanted to hear the DL take on something. Eventually, I stuck around.

by Anonymousreply 110August 26, 2015 5:11 AM

I'm a little afraid to tell you that I came in through the door of the Prancing Ponies. But wait! I had grown up with the LOTR books, and was intrigued at the potential of those movies. I Googled around the subject, and followed a link that took me here.

What I found was just so amazing to me. The Prancing Pony fangurls were practicing a bizarre level of rabid fandom insanity that I had never encountered before. It was like the cliche of watching a tragic accident in progress and being unable to tear your eyes away. I eventually tired of that amusement, but by then I had discovered other charms to this site.

by Anonymousreply 111August 26, 2015 5:14 AM

I pranced over with a bunch of my fellow Ponies.

by Anonymousreply 112August 26, 2015 5:16 AM

I googled "Anderson Cooper bottom" ca. december 2011/ january 2012

by Anonymousreply 113August 29, 2015 9:21 PM

A porn gossip website I read linked to thread on here about Peter North's gay porn past and other gay activities. This was over a decade ago.

by Anonymousreply 114August 29, 2015 9:29 PM

I think i goggled Abe from Sean Cody. At first it was mildly interesting to learn what's going on with him post SC. Now i'm pretty much over how some guys around here spend far far to much time tracking their farporn star. And these "dabate" if a SC model is gay str8 or bi are just ridiculous. You'd think it was actually something important.

by Anonymousreply 115August 29, 2015 9:31 PM

I googled "Is it true that one of the munchkins drowned in a toilet?" and DL came up in the search results.

by Anonymousreply 116August 29, 2015 9:33 PM

Same reason as R40, circa 1998/99. The A.S.G. and A.G.C. newsgroups started getting spammy so I moved my trailer here.

by Anonymousreply 117August 29, 2015 9:34 PM

In 2003 I was a newly-commissioned Air Force officer, and I was struggling with serving during Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I did a search for "gays in the military" and one of the more useful links brought me to DL! Back then there were separate sub-forums, but shortly after I arrived the site collapsed into a single forum.

Hard to believe I've been here 12 years! I was a naive 23-year-old back then and now I'm a much more jaded "eldergay."

by Anonymousreply 118August 29, 2015 9:36 PM

googled "edward norton asshole" about 5 years ago and this place was one of the top results.

by Anonymousreply 119August 29, 2015 9:40 PM

My neighbor told me about DL. I had no idea. I've been on since 2003.

by Anonymousreply 120August 29, 2015 9:55 PM

I googled Cesar Romero gay and Bryan Singer scandal and always seemed to end up here. I really liked it, and decided to post.

by Anonymousreply 121August 29, 2015 10:24 PM

I read about it on ALL THAT CHAT about 7 yrs ago. The comment was made that DL was not as tight assed as ATC. I was so entertained when I found the theater thread here. A few days later they were goofing on MLOP, Wayman Wang. Richard Connema and Ann.

by Anonymousreply 122August 30, 2015 12:20 AM

I randomly googled "Why is the American flag so ugly?" one night and Datalounge was one of the only websites with people as petty as me to complain about it.

by Anonymousreply 123January 17, 2016 1:54 AM

Looking for got pics of a certain figure skater.

by Anonymousreply 124January 17, 2016 1:55 AM

Hot not got

by Anonymousreply 125January 17, 2016 1:56 AM

I was visiting with my grandma one day and decided to check her browsing history. Men presenting...men presenting...men presenting.... So I checked it out.

by Anonymousreply 126January 17, 2016 2:01 AM

I was looking for an old classmate named Cheryl, and I found this place.

by Anonymousreply 127January 17, 2016 2:11 AM

I googled a guy named Shane I'd seen on another website, and ended up here, where I found out he was on Fratpad, only he was named Shay.

by Anonymousreply 128January 17, 2016 2:24 AM

I Googled "Nancy McKeon gay"

by Anonymousreply 129January 17, 2016 2:33 AM

About 1998, my partner thought I would find it amusing....I'm still around.

by Anonymousreply 130January 17, 2016 2:59 AM

I was googling some closeted actor. I can't remember whom but I found a lot of new info here so I knew it was the place to be.

by Anonymousreply 131January 17, 2016 3:01 AM

"night charm" quoted the site and it seemed to fun and bitchy, I couldn't resist.

by Anonymousreply 132January 17, 2016 3:34 AM

2001. There was a whole thread spoiling ATWT's boathouse storyline where Barbara got burned. I was addicted to DL that summer!

by Anonymousreply 133March 21, 2020 4:25 PM

It was back when posts were carved on stone tablets and thrown into the OP's cave. If you hit someone it was counted as a W&W.

A friend told me about it, back in the late 90s.

I arrived here in 2004. Sometimes I'd drift away for a few weeks, but I always came back. I posted anonymously during those years, but when I came back in September of last year, I decided to take a name. I can't remember, though, how I originally found the place. A link somewhere, maybe.

I googled something about Jake Gyllenhaal like 7 years ago. Got here. Then found that thread on “Victorian Era DL”. I laughed so much. Stayed since.

In 2006. I was a fan of a certain gay actor.

It kept coming up on everything I searched.

Googled "Bill Hemmer gay"

I now feel ridiculous even being mildly interested in that weird, right wing closet case, but glad I found DL

I don’t remember what led me here, but it’s now my favorite place on the Internet. During this quarantine I’ve been watching old movies on utube and reading all the old threads about them. DL has the best writing on old Hollywood I know of.

I googled 'paying jocks to let you blow them'
