I think Minnie's casting was Joel Schumacher's doing, not ALW. I enjoy the movie for the spectacle and I like the music, but Schumacher really makes some fucked up casting choices. Gerard Butler looked handsome as the Phantom, but should he have? And he sang like Meatloaf.

She was astounding playing a very flawed woman in The Riches. She never truly revealed who the woman was except for someone who would never reveal herself - an exceedingly fine line. Perhaps the best female performance I have ever seen.

Also in the very small indy movie Take with Jeremy Renner. It is the kind of movie you never stop thinking about but too grueling to watch more than once. Hilarious in Will and Grace, again a favorite comic performance. Watching her brought home how Debra Messing was just phoning it in at that point.

She's just not pretty, no matter what surgery she might has had (or gets done in the future) and that was always going to hold her back. You have to be an extremely talented actress, which she isn't, to compensate for average or below average looks. Sure, she has a great figure, but many women do, so she doesn't stand out. Straight men may have wanted to sleep with her, but none were falling in love onscreen, and women weren't trying to look her. So her appeal was/is very limited. She's managed to eke out a decent career, which she should be proud of.
