110% MAN.
Aldo was hot - but less so in that scene. He got too thick in the middle.
But never forget his statement about his start in the business:
[quote] "George Cukor gave me my big break in this business. He thought I could be a star, and I knew somebody important like him could easily help me, so I let him take his pleasure and it didn't compromise me in the least."

That voice of his could singe the hairs off your balls.
I remember coming across a very odd little movie that he did with Judy Holiday. It was the story of a couple in the process of getting a divorce with retelling of the course of their relationship played out in flashback.
They were very good together (and I usually find her irritating) but the film is well written and worthwhile.

I think that movie was "The Marrying Kind," r2.

I'd like to suggest something that I don't believe has ever come up before. We have nicknames for all types of men based on their physical type, i.e, chubbies, bears, etc. For the type of body Aldo Ray has---which is a THICK, muscled, waistless body (these are compliments)---have we a sobriquet for this type of handsome, desirable body?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 13, 2015 6:17 AM |
I think you may be thinking of "fit-fat," R8. "Fit-fat" has been a frequently discussed (and often admired) sobriquet in DL"s past. The high-waisted pants style Aldo wears in the OP's link hides the bit of belly roll we'd see in the low-waisted fashions today. "Fit-fat" describes a range of body types of guys who have both developed muscles and a bit of insulation, and Ray had a physique that was more on the fit side.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 13, 2015 6:41 AM |
Only someone who has been morbidly obese and neurotically fetishizes corset size waists would think of Aldo Ray as fat.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 13, 2015 6:56 AM |
Has someone accused Aldo Ray of being fat, R10?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 13, 2015 7:03 AM |
Thanks R9---but physiques like Aldo, to me are a little different than fit-fat. One one reason, there is no fat there. The dimensions of a huge, round chest barrel straight down---avoiding any waist at all--until it meets a huge, muscular ass and thick thighs. I'm not good in making up names, but something sounding Oak-like would be more appropriate than "fit-fat", which is a sobriquet I understand and appreciate.

WHO? you elders are stuck in the past aren't you
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 13, 2015 7:19 AM |
I appreciate the distinction you make, R12. I suggested "fit-fat" because Aldo wasn't ripped in the cartoonish ultra-low body fat way like the steroid-queen gym-bunnies are today. By comparison, he had a little bit of softness over his musculature. But he certainly had a wonderful natural physique .
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 13, 2015 7:43 AM |
Not stuck in the past, R13, the past is past. But man----those bodies!

I loved his froggy voice.

Thanks for debunking that ridiculously improbable nude, at R18, R20. His blonde, furry barrel chest is epic.

He was in a great noir-ish film called "Nightfall" also starring Anne Bancroft and Brian Keith. It has been appearing lately on one of the OTA channels - Movies-TV, Get-TV,etc.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 20, 2015 7:45 PM |
Hilarious how in that God's Little Acre clip the camera pans down to and lingers at both of their crotches. But Aldo's apparent slackness underneath the pleats of his trousers is compensated by the erect and burning cigarillo in his lips when the camera returns to his face.
Though not evident in this scene, what I also found so appealing about him was his adorable baby face, which is seen more in his comedies.
Oh, and was there ever a better example of a hairy BLONDE body?

I find it fascinating that Aldo's chunky hairy body was considered acceptably sexy back then. I wish we could return to those times.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 22, 2015 12:16 AM |
Why do we need to return to "those times," R35? Nature is turning out chunky, hairy bodies just fine without Hollywood's permission.

R7 - Cukor was a powerful director and power is a great aphrodisiac, especially for an ambitious actor.

Surprising that Aldo didn't make the transition into 1950s TV. He would have been perfect as the sexy slob on any number of those suburban sitcoms back then.

The Marrying Kind has some nice shots of him in boxers and sock garters
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 9, 2023 7:17 PM |
THE MARRYING KIND begins as a sort of low key b&w screwball rom-com and gradually evolves into something far more serious and poignant. Probably mostly shot in Hollywood but the artful art direction and cinematography ring true. Worth watching and really proves the wide range George Cukor possessed.
This is about as far from a glamorous MGM fallen women's weepie as Cukor could get (though there are tears for sure) and lead the way for early NY based indie films like MARTY and MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT a few years later.
Both Aldo and Judy are beautifully matched and unforgettable.

He said he never thought the man was gay, just very gay friendly. Most well hung guys like to be admired... even some not so well hung guys. This fiend also said he turned he turned down sex Johnny Mathis. The propsition was offered by one of the singer's entourage.

This is a good report in Aldo Ray’s dip into porn.
The director, a woman, found him in a motel, drunk, washed up, and broke. And movie magic ensued.
