My Affair with William Conrad in 1973
It was spring 1973 in Hollywood, I was dining alfresco with my dear friend Brett Summers and Charles Nelson Reilly. Suddenly we heard brakes squeal and a Lincoln Continental Convertible jumped the curb and nearly hit our table !! Charles screamed ! I was so startled I spilled my shrimp cocktail all over my Gucci cocktail dress I had just purchased from Broadway!!
From the large car emerged a large man with a booming voice. Typically I am not attracted to men of that size however something about his size and demeanor caused a "stirring" in my erotic zone. He apologized profusely offering to buy our lunch. I did not recognize him at first, however Charles whispered to me that he was a huge TV star named William.
William sat next to me and pulled himself as close to the table as he could he was wearing a smart outfit of a white Banlyon polo shirt and black sanasbelt slacks with white patent leather shoes and matching belt. His cologne was Hi-Karate and I so taken with him right away.
William felt awful about the incident, he ran over the curb while trying to retrieve a baby ruth bar he had dropped earlier. He offered to make us dessert as a consolation. Brett and Charles declined , however I accepted.
After moving the Lincoln off the sidewalk, we drove to Williams Hollywood place at the Coronet Apartments. Upon entering his adobe I was taken aback by the decor. Green shag carpeting and this rather odd furniture made from beer barrels ? We sat on the sofa keg and William offered me a beverage to relax, he brought me back a Martini and Rossi on the rocks and some Jenos Pizza rolls. His sansabelt slacks seemed to be straining, he excused himself and came back with black silk kimono with red silk boxer shorts.
I knew that this was on a romantic adventure!! He stroked my hair and softly touched my breast, I thought I saw his manhood peaking out of the boxers It turned out to be one on the Jeno pizza rolls.

We moved from the sofa to his bedroom, I will not go into details however shall we say the man liked to eat alot !! After our tyrst, he laid sleeping, I grew concerned that his corpulence would injure me if he rolled over me in his sleep, I quickly dressed and left this apartment, I called my friend Brett Sommers to come get. She showed up descretly in a Chevy Vega she borrowed from her house keeper Inez. I never saw William again , however every time I see Jeno Pizza rolls in the grocery I get an erotic stirring

Conrad was only interested in the food, not in you. Everyone in Hollywood knew he was an insatiable bottom.

I saw him close-up one time in a California theater. I don't recall what show was on stage but I was seated next to Anne Jeffreys. William Conrad was several seats over. John Schuck (McMillan and Wife) was a row back as was Jane Withers (Josephine the Plumber), Eileen Brennan with g/f, and Mel Torme. I know there were others that would be known, but I was trying not to act like a kid in a candy store.

How could anyone get an "erotic stirring" in that house of horrors? Beer barrel furniture and green shag carpet? Bring me my smelling salts.

The dress purchased "from Broadway" was a nice touch.

Is this fan fic or slash fic? I can't be bothered to learn the difference. The choice of the 1970s is interesting. Or a sign of early dementia.

R8 Yeah, except it was called THE Broadway and I doubt they ever carried Gucci dresses.

That's the point, R11.
No one was supposed to take OP's post seriously. It was supposed to start a fun thread, not be taken as actual Hollywood history. Who ARE all you people?

Wow, if an afternoon delight counts as an "affair" I certainly have had an awful lot of affairs!

I had an image of him while listening to "Gunsmoke" on radio (yes, I am that old) and wondered why he didn't become Matt Dillon on TV. When I saw his picture in Radio/TV Mirror, I knew the answer.

OP, why do you call your one-time encounter with Big Bill an "affair?"

A friend dressed a very young Conrad John Schuck (as he then billed himself) as Curly in a stock production of Oklahoma! and remained totally enamored of him for the rest of his life. Nothing physical happened but my friend, who also designed for stars like Vivien Leigh and Jean Arthur, said he never worked with anyone who was hotter (back then), sang better or was sweeter. My friend used a 1904 Montgomery Ward catalog for his research.

I saw a mildly corpulent William Conrad in a film from the Thirties and was struck by how handsome he was as the second male lead. His eyes in particular were quite striking. I give OP some props for his account on that basis.
