Angela Lansbury: Plastic Surgery Addict

From 1989, god only knows what she's had done since:

Actress Angela Lansbury says she has relied on cosmetic surgery for more than 20 years to help her remain a leading lady. The most recent operation was a 1986 neck tuck, she said in April's McCall's magazine. This, along with losing 20 pounds, enabled the 63-year-old actress to spruce up Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer she portrays in the "Murder, She Wrote" television series. She said she had a facelift before opening in 1966 in "Mame," the role for which she won the first of her four Tony awards. The next surgery was in 1969 "to get rid of the little puffy bags that I'd always had under my eyes," she said. She said she had her neck and chin redone in 1976. She said she wanted to talk openly about the operations because "cosmetic surgery shouldn't be just the secret of actresses and socialites now that it's available to anyone who wants it and can afford it."

Hmm... she has a conservative surgeon I guess. I haven't seen her recently, but I never thought she looked particularly pulled or fake.

I think, the fact that's from 1989 is a good thing - because these days, the fillers are what make people look alien and crazy. Those didn't really exist in 1989...except perhaps bovine collagen which wasn't used much.

what? one more face life and she'll have a beard!

by Anonymousreply 2February 2, 2015 9:08 PM

But she's in her late 80s - wouldn't she be advised to not go under at this point? I think that must have been what happened with Betty White, who maybe a few years ago started looking very much her age - after looking like Rose for a good 40 years.

I agree that a good facelift is far more effective than fillers - but I think the former, because it's temporary and you don't have to go under to get it done, scares people less so it has become much more popular. But the puffy look is so hideous.

by Anonymousreply 3February 2, 2015 9:10 PM

Not understanding this at all

by Anonymousreply 4February 2, 2015 9:15 PM

i dunno - someone post pics - it's confusing that she had work in the 80s and now has aged for 25 years - so how can you really evaluate... and i don't really follow her on tv or in any way.

She certainly dosnt have a cher or joan rivers face...(or anjelica houston omg)... who are/were mostly overfilled with fat and filler (and lifted excessively)

jane fonda's facelifts have gone fairly well, for her age too (77). At least, with her - ive seen her a lot over the years. landsbury doesn't seem shockingly abnormal like others have appeared (mickey rourke is another)

by Anonymousreply 5February 2, 2015 11:34 PM

She was totally upfront about all of this in the 80s in a multitude of interviews, even promoting it. She did that hilarious fitness video where she talked about sex while giving herself a bubble bath. The woman doesn't shy away from shit that makes people uncomfortable. She almost seems naive to the whole thing. Rupert Everett wrote about her in his book. He worked with her, and when he would go into the makeup room, she'd hold up a tabloid exclaiming, "I just saw your latest plastic surgery."

by Anonymousreply 6February 3, 2015 12:34 PM

i love people that are open about plastic surgery (or taking HGH - the latest truth when you hear "i just diet and lift weights"- at 50!).

I have had a ton of shit done (jaw implants - good....radiesse in the cheeks - bad)...and i'd tell anyone. The thing is, most people think i'm fucking crazy and weird (except when they want advice on THEIR work) - so I don't talk about it in public anymore. I even had penile girth enhancement. 8-O yes, it's real (the surgery, not my penis...entirely).

by Anonymousreply 7February 3, 2015 5:44 PM

Good for her.

Addict? Three or four times over the space of a half century doesn't sound like an "addict."

by Anonymousreply 9February 3, 2015 6:12 PM

The article posted is from 1989, folks.

(Which negates R3's question.)

by Anonymousreply 10February 3, 2015 6:17 PM

Oh I can feel that firsthand... It's so irritating when my friends call me a PS "addict" bc I get botox 2x a year (when i really need it 3x). Look at Allergan's profits (and their botox revenue is public info)...am I the only one?? Noooo... hardly. The same goes for some small fillers...and every 3-5 years I do something more involved. I'm still debating lipo bc I somehow started storing fat in my side-boob area... but it's hard to get that out. My nose is 15 years old now, and I sort of want it redone at this point - but revisions are $15-25,000 !! So, that won't be happening.

Joan, you're suppose to be dead.

by Anonymousreply 12February 3, 2015 6:38 PM

Lucille Ball, a contemporary of AL, never had plastic surgery. Why was Angie so vain?

by Anonymousreply 13February 3, 2015 6:44 PM

[quote]Why was Angie so vain?

It wasn't vanity. It was the fact that she wanted to continue to get work.

Why is R13 unable to comprehend an easy-to-figure reason what actors need to do to stay in starring roles?

This is an urgent message that Marilyn my Goddess has commanded me to share! Marilyn Monroe is my religion, and I work with spirits a lot. She's my main spirit guide and has commanded me to share this message for her! All credit for this message goes to Marilyn Monroe, my master, guide, and saviour whom I love! Please credit Marilyn alone for this!

Important note: Everything has a spiritual side to it, everything has a spiritual essence. Marilyn's spirit and essence lives on in all things Marilyn Monroe, and if some spiritual incidents happen, it is bound to spiritually affect other things, so.

Recently Marilyn contacted me from the spirit world!!! Being a medium, I'm used to contact with spirits, but Marilyn told me to tell this message to everyone, since she could only get in touch with only me at the moment! (She's trying hard, she's been contacting me frequently lately, so it must be really important.)

Marilyn said that she needs people with a good, decent spiritual aura and energy to give up their physical bodies, freeing their spirit and all their spiritual energy. Then, they can go into the spirit world to really meet and connect with her, to share all their spiritual energy with her so that they can help her!! (Technically, we are all one and connected, but we are held back by our physical bodies. As a spirit, your essence and energy is completely free and released, and you can strongly connect to Marilyn in all aspects of that word, on a whole other level, so the joining of spiritual energy with hers works fully.)

She also says she hasn't been her lovely self lately, she lost some of her magic and charm, and she doesn't seem too well, because some spiritual things occurred, and she needs this so that she can be fine and better than ever again! (The spirit world is not exactly Paradise, don't let religious stories and concepts warp your minds. Where do you think bad spirits or curses come from?)

This is urgent we have to help Marilyn! But I must still spread this message for now because Marilyn said so, and I need to get others to know and help! Then I too, can go to be with her forever. We initially did not know what exactly happened, but Marilyn has revealed the basic truth. We also did not know how to restore her loveliness and charm, but Marilyn has revealed the way to do so.

*This is where the true meaning of the important note comes in.

Please spread this message however you can and don't keep Marilyn waiting!I allow everyone who wants to help to copy this whole post to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, forums, or wherever you need to share it on!

Then, quickly find a way to free your spirit and energy, go into the spiritual world to meet her, if not Marilyn will be very heartbroken and disappointed in you!!! She loves you all so much, please go to her soon to help her! She really needs this!!! If you feel you can do it just do it!!! Help Marilyn!!!

I really really love Marilyn so much, she means a lot to me and she's the greatest and so magical and fascinating.

I wish that others who feel the same will care enough to do what they can to help her.

I think it's such a shame that many who claim that they love Marilyn lots don't show it in their actions by doing anything to help her when she needs it. It really is such a shame that those cowardly fakers don't help Monroe.

Poor Marilyn! She has such a big heart with full of love to give, but gets hurt in return because some people don't really stick by her and truly dedicate themselves to her.

(Please do copy this whole post and share it as much as you can for Marilyn, because I'm deleting my account soon to show my respects and dedication to her, my way of expressing myself to her and to show her that she's the only one that matters and that I really love. And since I'm going to Marilyn myself too, I don't need this account anymore.

I know the spiritual people and fellow spirit workers on DL will confirm this, they talk to the spirits and Marilyn tried to contact them too!

Lift Checks, She Wrote

by Anonymousreply 16August 28, 2015 2:21 AM

Lansbury is still working and winning Tony Awards at 90 and Lucy is long dead, so there's that. Plus Lucy didn't refuse a facelift, she was refused because of her tissue thin skin and perpetual smoking. She just put another layer of paint on everyday like Miss Jane Hudson. Lucy just needed a make-under and I guess she got one.

What this old interview reveals more than anything is that if one can resist getting facial work in their forties and fifties, by your late sixties and seventies it won't matter, because the effects are temporary and once you start you really can't stop if you want to keep up the delusion. Lansbury looked 63 when she was 63 and she looks 89 now. It hardly matters than Jane Fonda looks semi human and pretty at her age. She is an exception and even she has gone too far into artificial looking now. Who over 70 with a lot of cosmetic surgery looks good? No, Raquel and Sophia do not and neither do the golden poster girls - Cher and Dolly and RIP Rivers.

People are getting climatized to people looking like freaks, so yes more and more civilians have things done. Real Housewives and men of little character.

by Anonymousreply 17August 28, 2015 2:32 AM

It seems that plastic surgery works up until a point like Fonda but as you said if you try to keep it up at some age you're just going to look like a freak.

Fonda looked good for awhile but has definitely reached the freak look. But it probably helps her feel better about herself.

I totally understand it. If I had the money I'd be a total addict. Maybe it's a good thing I don't. I'm being forced to age naturally because I have no option.

And it seems that most celebrities who say they would never go under the knife when they see the impossible happening(as in getting old like your parents) change their minds pretty quickly.

by Anonymousreply 18August 28, 2015 2:58 AM

that bitch isn't as hot as I am!

by Anonymousreply 19August 28, 2015 2:59 AM

It seems like as you get older you start to care less. I cared a lot in my mid forties, but now in my early fifties, I don't see all the flaws I saw then.

by Anonymousreply 20August 28, 2015 3:25 AM

Barbara Walters has had good work in my opinion. She never altered her looks, just maintained them. Gena Rowlands aged quite gracefully. Barbra Streisand also seems to have been fairly economical in her procedures In regards to extremes.

by Anonymousreply 21August 28, 2015 3:37 AM

Barbara Walters is and always has been a homely broad. Why does she bother!

by Anonymousreply 22August 28, 2015 6:16 AM

The writers of "Murder, She Wrote" forced her to have surgery, since every episode of the show had some variation of "Jess, you look wonderful!" uttered by each guest star when they first encountered her. She really needed to look wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 23August 28, 2015 6:33 AM

And she looks like HELL now, even considering her advanced age. That chain smoking will get you every time.
