Gays Among the Royals
Apart from possibly Prince Andrew, are there any? Are there any openly gay royals other than Dame Edna?
In history who was gay? Is there a fine tradition of man servants addressing the needs of their employers?
"Downton Abbey" seems to suggest disdain for gays. So many films point towards a long-term tradition of best friends who played in school but later married. What's the state of homo-sex among the upper classes?

Downton Abbey does not suggest disdain for gays.
Some of the servants have spoken in favor of Thomas' being gay, just accepting it as a fact that that is how certain people are.
Carson is the only one who really spoke against it.
Lord Grantham made a comment about all the boys who tried to kiss him when he was at school and thought nothing of it.
It was much more hidden in that era, but there were gays and they did have sex. And not everyone thought them queer.

Prince Edward (aka "Dockyard Doris") may also be bisexual, and so may also be Lord Frederick Windsor. And the queen's uncle, the late George, Duke of Kent (Freddie's grandfather), was clearly bisexual.

why do you keep calling them bisexual. They are not bisexual because they married a woman. bisexual has nothing to do with marital status. it has to do with sexual orientation. you can marry someone of the opposite sex and be 100 percent gay or lesbian.
this "bisexual" crap is so 1980s.

R13, Not one of the posters who just wrote "bi" in their descriptions of Royals, but wouldn't it be appropriate to use in describing someone that you know has slept with both sexes, but you're really not 100% sure of the person's true preference?

FIrst, its not a preference, its an orientation, and you are assuming that because they are married they are sexually attracted to each other.

R16, No. The idea of marrying for love or sexual attraction is a Western concept, and a relatively recent practice. Especially among those with money, status, power, title, or fame, alliances and marriages are for far different reasons.
Yes, I'm so used to saying preference, rather than orientation. The latter word reminds me of college or a new job. I'll admit to sometimes using words incorrectly. I know that preference implies free will which isn't appropriate.
However while we may hear stories that a certain Royal has sex with his valet, we really don't know if it was occasional or frequent. The same would hold true of his spouse. Were they only sleeping together to produce children? Or only when he was drunk?
So honestly how many times would either situation make a man bi but leaning one way or the other? How about if he really prefers 3-ways?

As R8 has said, Prince Andrew is not gay. The Riviera 'outing' was total rubbish, as is your claim in the thread title, OP.
Andrew likes women, including very young women and is a sour, arrogant drunk.
Since his marriage to Sarah Ferguson broke down, (which was the result of his violence towards her when drunk), he has taken to employing expensive escorts to accompany him on private yachts, to get his kicks. The kind of escorts who cater to billionaires and royalty, and ex-Presidents e.g. Bill Clinton, Steve Bing, Prince Andrew.
Andrew remains a very good friend of billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (also a good friend of Clinton and Larry Summers) who trafficked underaged girls for sex. According to prosecutors in Florida, he molested underage girls from South America, Europe, and the former Soviet republics, including three 12-year-old girls brought over to the US from France as a 'birthday gift'. The FBI, identified roughly 40 victims, not counting Nadia Marcinkova, whom Epstein referred to as his “Yugoslavian sex slave” because he had imported her from the Balkans at age 14.
Andrew refused to stop staying as Epstein's guest in the States after this all came to light. As a result, the Queen had to be asked by the UK secret services to stop Andrew's friendship with Epstein, due to the risk of blackmail.
He is not, and never has been, gay.

So Andrew remains friends with Epstein - though The Queen was asked to make her son end the friendship.
Around the time leading up to William's wedding there were some very heavy stories in the press linking Andrew to Epstein, going as far as they dared with implications about the Prince's activities.
Looks like these stories had the security services behind them to send Andrew the strongest possible warning - especially at a time of national celebration. As against the golden couple, he was painted as an ageing pervert. On the day of the wedding he duly looked like death warmed up.
Maybe now that the world's focus is on Will, Kate and George, The Firm's playboy feels he can resume the servicings he feels he deserves.
I imagine he feels the passing of what prominence he had much more than Anne and Edward, his fellow absentees from that recent pared-down Royal balcony appearance. Fun with billionaires would be the sort of compensation he'd settle for.

God knows poor Elena looked like one - of the King's three children, his son and younger daughter got the decent looks and Elena drew the short straw, drawing all the worst characteristics of her Bourbon forbears and none of the prettiness of her mother, Queen Sofia, former Princess of Greece.

Snowdown was a typical arrogant, egotisical fey bisexual with mommy issues. Probably more gay than bi, but hated anyone thinking so. Typical self loather who made a big deal about his womanizing to cover up for it. Set his sights on Margret to one up his cunt socail climbing mother who never gave him attention and prefered his younger brothers. He was friends with the extemely gay interior desinger who married the (rumoured) gay daugther of the gay Earl Mountbatten, David hicks. Upon hearing of Hicks crowing about snagging the rich (through her heiress mother) and aristocratic Pamela, snowdon quickly asked Margaret to get married in order to beat him to the puch. He is said to have remarked; "oh, I dont think thats a very good match" implying he had got a greater prize. Margaret loved fey boys.

R44 I don't think Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg is gay. He seems to have mild autism as well as bad rosacea. His wife Stephanie comes from a very wealthy and very aristocratic family. Her father is Count Philippe de Lannoy, and he is a descendent of the House of Lannoy founded in the 14th century in Flanders/France.
Being wealthy and descended from a notable aristo family, I don't see why Stephanie would need to marry a gay man. She has her own titles and wealth and her family has a beautiful castle in Belgium.
Stephanie is like Guillaume. She is somewhat introverted, and has a mild deformity with one arm shorter than the other. She eschews high fashion and wears little jewelry and often ties her hair back with a scrunchie, even when attending events. She and Guillaume seem very well-matched.

R115: R114 clearly wrote "no need to marry a GAY MAN."

Pardon rude me, but I'm only posting to keep this in my 'watched' listed (since I can't see to do that any other way).

R116 Gloria von thurn un taxis (born a Countess of Schönburg-Glauchau) married the very gay Johannes tnt. He loved latino twinks. Openly 'bi', but actually gay, and only got married in his 50's. She is deeply catholic and homophobic even though she is bi/lesbian herself. She was in a relationship with princess alessandra borghese. Alessandra seems to be pretty open despite her own catholic conservatisim. Posts photos of her new GF on instgram.
Catholic aristocrats (esp german)n live in another world. They STILL only marry in their own class. They are more 'pure' than royalty so to speak.

Gloria TNT is weird. She had that immense fire sale of assets, and then immediately went out and bought a luxury villa in Africa! The only son still hasn’t married so what’s going on there who knows.

R114 sounds like one of those Royal stans that hog the Royal webpages. They think they own the royals and resent anyone else who has an opinion about their favorite Royal...Guillaumehas his fans and detractors there. They reserve a special kind of hate for Stephanie and Princess Mary of Denmark...

King James I was madly in love with a number of men in his time. More so definitely than with his wife, although he no doubt married to produce heirs and spares at a difficult time for the English monarchy whe Elizabeth I died without progeny.

I think that Phillipos, the youngest son of former Greek King Constantine, looks a bit light in the sandals.

R120 To be fair I would say its quite simple. I would guess she and her daughters would have been left trusts/assests seperate to the main TNT fortune that Albert could have only inherited due to house law. So all the sales of the jewels, paintings, brewery/banking stuff would have been on behalf of Albert. She also had a large collection of modern art on her own. I know she offloaded something like 8 million of it in 2006. Plus, a villa in kenya isnt really that expensive. Her pad in NYC would be though. But also, you do get a sense they made a bigger deal out of being 'broke'. Most of the furniture sold at the palace was said to be crappy stuff that had been kept in storage. The only thing of great loss was the incredible jewels that were sold. They still have some nice stuff, but prior to that sale, the TNT collection could have litterally rivaled and beat some current reigning royal houses.
As for Albert not being married, I would guess its because he hasnt found a 'suitable' bride. She has to be Aristocratic and deeply catholic. While I am sure there are many girls who probably would just at the chance to marry the billionaire, the TNT family are seen as 'nouveau riche' and tacky/ strange and certainly Gloria is given the stink eye by a lot of german aristos. But, they still have a massive palace and Albert is still a billionaire, so they can only give them the side eye so much............

His brother Pavlov’s was really hot in his youth...now, not so much. What must it be like to be a royal in title only? That’s all that they have. Even their wealth comes from Pavlos’ wife Marie Chantal.

R132 Pavlov was a stud in his youth and still good looking in his 50s now. There have been rumours over the years that he was pushed into his Marie Chantal due to her family's wealth and that he has screwed around on her a lot. MC is allegedly hated within European royal circles.

I have read that Marie Chantal demands that people call her Your Highness...she can be quite the primadonna when she wants to be. Queen Anne Marie has mixed feelings about her. Pavlos is well liked by the British royals because of his links to Prince Philip. What does Lilibet think of Marie Chantal?

What about this cutie pie?
If Bavaria still were a kingdom, he'd be the crown prince. He might also be the future King of Scotland if Scotland were independent but decided to remain a monarchy.

He looks a bit like Ludwig II, the iconic (and apparently gay) king of Bavaria who spent lots of money on fine castles and eventually ended up committing suicide in a lake.

R134 Marie Chantal is big into her title which is why she has turned a blind eye to her husband's frequent indiscretions. Marie Chantal does have her good moments, for example, she called out Queen Letizia of Spain for being a cunt to her mother-in-law Queen Sofia.
The Greek royals and British royals are close not just because of Philip but also because the Greeks came to live in London after they were exiled and I think the British royals helped them financially.

When James VI of Scotland also became James I of England (mentioned above), a popular saying was "Elizabeth was King, now James is Queen.
Like during his lifetime, Julius Caesar was known as "Every wife's husband and every husband's wife."
It's not much talked about but King Hussein of Jordan was at least bi. A much older friend of mine when I first came out had been kept by him for several years when the the friend was pretty young blond twink.

I know a prince and a king. They don't really count as the prince is from a country where you couldn't throw a stone without hitting one and the king is by title only though he has a palace or two.
