Really obscure, but "Prelude to Happiness" is a 1970s soap-opera style drama about an amputee's search for love. It's played completely straight, not for camp, and it is AMAZING.
I wish more people knew about this one. It's Datalounge catnip.

The only bad movie I've ever liked is ST. ELMO'S FIRE. It has that stirring David Foster theme, Rob Lowe's faux saxing, Jules' nervous breakdown, the new word (to me at that time) "stepmonster," the silliness with Dale Biberman and Kirby, wondering whether Kevin was really in love with Alec, the wonderfully cheeseball end scene with Billy leaving town, and that stirring David Foster theme once again.
Oh, and best of all, it was shot in DC, where I lived, not that long after my own graduation from college. Loved the Georgetown and Adams-Morgan location shooting.

That's not a bad-movie-we-love, that's a genuinely good movie! It's a wonderfully gritty black comedy, it's so real and funny it ought to be considered a classic. If it were better known, it might be.
As for a bad movie we love, how about the most insane movie musical of the 1940s, "Ziegfeld Follies"? Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly dance together! Lucille Ball whips girls dressed as black cats! Kathryn Grayson walks through masses of soap bubbles! No, really.

Cheesy, 1980's action movies are the best "bad movies" because they were so homoerotic! Think of the climax-fight in "Commando" between Schwarzenegger & Bennett! When Ah-nold challenged Bennett to a knife fight he said something like "Why don't you stick it in me, Bennett, and twist it? Look in my eyes, see what's going on in there?" If that's not a gay come-on I don't what is. And Bennett had a squealing orgasm and chased after Ah-nold with his knife, practically jizzing his chain-mail pants. I challenge anyone to name me a more Freudian-homosexual action movie than Commando.

Lost Horizon-the 1973 version that killed the Burt Bacharach/Hal David partnership. Sally Kellerman and Liv Ullman singing. Olivia Hussey looking pregnant, then not from one moment to the next!
Playing By Heart-Jon Stewart is an architect, Ryan Phillipe is moody, Angelina Jolie is dramatic, and Dennis Quaid is just weird.

"Slap Shot is notoriously homophobic."
Well... there's a lot of homophobic language in the movie, all of it delivered by bone-ignorant morons, as a way of showing how tiny and unsophisticated their minds are. If that offends you, the movie is not for you.
I love that movie, though. It looks at the dark side of life in a very hilarious way.

Count me in with r146. It's funny how our definition of a liberal has changed since the 70s/80s. A true liberal, as far as I'm concerned, would have the brains and sophistication to distinguish between films that portray narrow, homophobic characters, and those that (implicitly or explicitly) encourage homophobia to some degree. Slap Shot (and most of the films we are discussing here) belong in the former group; Braveheart belongs in the latter. Libertarians aren't wrong when they say that the left has become more narrow minded - certainly culturally, this is true. I have far more respect for the laissez faire lefties of yore than the so-called liberals of today, who are rightly called out as the "thought police."
Then again, our whole culture was just far more laissez faire then. Everyone is just too damn uptight today about everything. Slap Shot is a great movie with one of Paul Newman's best performances. But Hollywood, and even most of the indie companies, would be too timid to make something like that today.
Reminds me of the commentary for Vacation, where the late Harold Ramis says that, if he made the movie today, he would have never included the East St. Louis scene because it would have been considered "too offensive." Exhibit A why there are so few truly funny comedies these days. That was only one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

This really ghetto movie named "Killjoy" and its sequel "Killjoy 2". I rented both movies without hearing anything about them, and they were both really freaking ghetto and unintentionally hilarious. It was like "It" combined with "Boyz in da hood" or something along those lines. Really pathetically hilarious.

The Legend of Lyla Claire is the worst film ever made. It's so bad it's genius. Kim Novack plays two identical roles. And neither one of them can act. Peter Finch, Coral Browne as a crippled Hedda Hopper, and Ernest Borgnine as the lowest rent tycoon ever cast in a movie. Even his Rolls is crap. And Kim dies in the end. Twice!

"Metalstorm:The Destruction Of Jared-Syn"
"Xtro"
"Beastmaster"
Cannon's Albert Pyun's "Captain America"
"The Keep" - Tangerine Dream soundtrack, but soporific.
"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" isn't a bad movie, nor does it aim to be consrquential. Harmless entertaonment, and it's a great time capsule.
"The Last American Virgin" somewhat praised, but what drek.
"The Lonely Lady"
"Vampire In Brooklyn" - shameful.

"Looker" ......with Albert Finney as the 'studly' cosmetic surgery who 'fixes all the girls that are perfect', Susan Dey as a supermodel (HA), beautiful girls who cannot act and James Coburn and Leigh Taylor Young as the 'bad guys' who die stupidly. Also there's the silent Marlboro Hit Man'.

I never get tired of watching the underrated "Alien Resurrection." Because Jean-Pierre Jeunet's visual style is so whacky, tripped-out and deliriously unpredictable, it gives this movie a uniquely nutty, delirious vibe that the other Alien movies didn't have. Plus, at the time Sigourney Weaver was the hottest-looking 50-year-old dressed in tight leather this bisexual has ever seen. Before or since.

R146, thanks for posting that. Slap Shot is a more a character study than a sports film per se, and also focuses on life in a blue collar environment. It's not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination. It's a rare sports movie that shows the effect of violence but not in a ham-fisted way.
Plus Swoosie Kurtz is hilarious (the way she looks around and optimistically says 'good crowd!' cracks me up every time) and I love the Hanson brothers. 'I'm listening to the fucking song!'

Bad movies I love to never watch but they are classic bad - Connie Francis showcases, WHERE THE BOYS ARE and FOLLOW THE BOYS.
I agree with R91 - I'll watch any Mystery Science Theater 3000 bad flicks with their good riffs. A particularly bad one that I love is ATTACK OF THE THE EYE CREATURES. The continuity is so bad throughout. The film makers clearly "just didn't care."
I agree R96 - some films are just so bad even the funny riffing doesn't help.
I loved the fact that the MST3K writers had a serious code; any truly classically bad film was off limits. Thus, they never featured PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE or it's ilk.
TERROR OF TINY TOWN is really painful to watch in a mesmerizing train wreck sort of way.
