The favorite movie poster thread got me to thinking of the greatest poster artist of all time. He entered a contest at 22 to do artwork for "Hello Dolly" and began an amazing carrier until he died of AIDS. Anybody know him?
Also did Bette Midlers' first two album covers...

He did a lot of TV Guide covers. The man defined the 70's as Patrick Nagel did the 80's.

This I love, it's for the charming Sherlock Holmes film "The Seven Percent Solution", and completely captures the Art Nouveau style of the period in which it's set.
I just don't know why there's no type or title on this, it must be a movie poster.

Would a straight man have drawn this? I don't THINK so!

Chinatown's my favorite film! Thanks for introducing me to this artist. He's done a lot of classic, striking work.

Amsel's version of Barbra Streisand a la Klimt.

Links at R17 and R19 don’t work.
I also like Amsel’s posters for “Voyage of the Damned”, “The Big Sleep” and “Beyond the Limit”.

He had a contract, so like every 5th or 6th TV guide cover was his.Great movie posters and those terrific Bette Midler album covers. Did he do the Lily Tomlin Time magazine cover?

when I was a freshman in college, another gayling freshman had decorated his dorm room wall with all the Amsel TV guide covers. This would have been 1979. It looked great, actually.
