I just started watching the show and really like it. It reminds me in part of a good eats with a p b s style

I went to high school in West Virginia with Bridget Lancaster (nee Sapp). She was quirky and had short, dykey brown hair.

I love the show..especially Bridget.

Best ever and I grew up cooking Italian food.

I love skinny, nerdy guys and would love to hang a little lovin' round Christopher Kimball's man-toy.

I remember after the second or third season, they did a Behind The Scenes documentary on the show. In the early days, Chris Kimball was a dick and seemed like he had some sort of personality disorder, verified when Julia said that it was hard always having to work with him.

Everyone else on on the show was very careful what they said about him, but after that, he stopped being so...dick-y.

Julia was cute in the early days but then she married, whelped, and grew into a Mrs. Bridges-to-be.

Brigit really likes working with meat. Really, really...

The round guy who does the kitchen gadgets is my favorite, followed by earnest Becky, then Julia and Brigit, then the skinny taste test guy. I remember in an early seaon, Chris flew down to NYC to do a segment on the Today show, but the schedule got messed up and he looked like he was going to maul Matt, but mostly he snarled.

Don't trust a skinny chef.

Julia is a fat bitch who thinks she's a skinny bitch. She's a nasty know-it-all.

That show is so dull. They don't seem to have a passion for food, they seem to have a passion for finding the 'right' recipes. There's a big difference.

It is my fave cooking show mainly because I have never once heard anyone on the show say they put a lot of "love" into their food. That is the single tiredest cliche on the Food Network. Everyone including Alton has said it numerous times on their shows.

I'm so stupid sometimes. Their website not only has their recipes, but we can watch all of their episodes there too. I have at least a dozen of them taking up space on my DVR.

I love their magazines as well- Cook's Illustrated. Can purchase on online subscription and get access to tons of recipes from their books and magazines.

But since I have been eating super healthy and meat free- have not been accessing it as much. I would love if they showed correct way to make tasty vegan/healthy/low fat food.

I love this show too. It's very scientific. They recently did a spaghetti and meatballs recipe but man, it seemed pretty complicated. They recommend soaking Panko in buttermilk and adding gelatin instead of veal. Anyone try it?

America's Test Kitchen runs part of the year, and their spin-off show, Cook's Country, runs the other part of the year. In most PBS markets they share the same time slot. But ATK is still their flagship show, and yes, it's still being made. They have already started filming for their next season, which I believe begins in September.

I get a "Jeff Smith" vibe off of Christopher Kimball - if he didn't mention wife/kids, I'd swear he was gay.

I always sense tension when Chris Kimball and Bridget do segments together. They seem to goad each other in a borderline nasty way. Chris sometimes says things that are bitchy and you can see Bridget wanting to ream him but she reigns it in and stays professional.

He's so much nicer to Julia and those two younger brunettes. He's reaallly nice to that young pretty brunette.

I love/hate the taste test segments that CK does with that guy Jack. Their teasing banter got tired 3 years ago. Jack always implies that CK's guesses are 'wrong' when they don't agree with the audience. Then CK gets touchy and gets the bitch face on.

Also, that guy Jack is uber fey. Imagine my surprise when he mentioned that he has kids (don't remember if he ever alludes to a wife, though).

I enjoy them all when they're away from Kimball, who is a controlling, pushy, off-putting snark. On NPR and other venues Adam, Julia, Jack and Bridget are all fun, smart and informative.

It's Kimball's show and his "vision" is tired. And so is his schtick.

Also, the crap driving easier-faster-lazier is not the same as the original idea behind the "test kitchen." Serving lazy home cooks isn't the same as serving people who seriously want to know the best versions of conventional and trendy dishes, and the reasons they are the best.

Anyone tried this technique for cakes using slices of summer fruit, especially peaches?

I agree with them that these cakes often come out soggy or even clay-like because of all the moisture in the fruit.

America's Test Kitchen is the best cooking show on the air. Everything else is bullshit in comparison.

So vastly superior superior to any of the shit on The Food Network (or, as I now call it, the Chopped Cupcake Fieri channel) which only has 'personalities' barely cooking now.

Anyone remember the Great Chefs shows from way back? They would travel to Europe a lot and just show chefs cooking some classic dishes. No goofy stories, no witty repartee, no histrionics - just cooking. That was a great show.

Bridget is my favorite of the cooks, but Chris makes some nasty aggressive remarks when they're on together. Once in a while she zings him back. I've noticed he praises all of Julia's recipes, constantly saying that's the best whatever he has ever tasted and he never says that to Bridget. He'll tell Bridget something is good, but he doesn't praise her to the heavens like he does Julia. He often tells Julia something she has made is in the top five recipes ever.

I've also noticed he is especially nice to the younger of the two newer cooks. She was very nervous at first and I wondered if he was trying to help, but I don't know that's in his nature.

I don't think it's true that each of Americas Test Kitchen and Cooks Country covers half a season as R21 said. Our PBS station shows them back to back every week for the entire season.

I remember when Julia was young and much thinner. She got married and had kids and she gained weight. She says she's German, and she's built like a lot of German women I've known.

Bridget has become more involved in the radio show and some other parts of the business. I was concerned she was on her way out when I noticed we were seeing less of her, but I checked and she seems to have been promoted.

Chris (aka, Annoying Bowtie Boy) is truly annoying. But it really is the best cooking show on now. I learned to cook with Ina, but that is when I knew nothing about cooking and when she *actually* cooked. ATC and CC are the only cooking shows I watch now.

It's so funny to hear everyone getting annoyed with Chris. He's a neighbor of mine, and a really genuine, easygoing fellow. He's conscious of the rather uptight image he protects, and attributes it to being a taciturn Vermonter. That's why his on-air "talent" is bubbly and outgoing, to give viewers something warm and likable to latch onto. But he's a terrific guy who built a rather amazing business.

In one special, Chris's staff cooked up some old fashioned meal at his deluxe townhouse in Boston. They used old cooking methods and it was incredibly difficult. But the meal went very well.

I'm reading a lot of these posts and can't get over the mean spirit of some of these comments. Do people really have to make themselves feel better by belittling others? I too went to school with some of the show's participants and can tell you that they were wonderful people. Very smart and talented, some of which graduated top of their class. I'm proud that they've accomplished so much. Instead of belittling can we not sing their praises? You may actually begin to feel better about yourself when you recognize others for making strides.

ATK finally taught me how and why I was making shitty baked eggs. Their technique for baked eggs florentine is excellent.

I don't watch the show all that often so bowtie-guy seems fine to me. Meat-grilling lady is a bit much. Product-demo bear is adorable.

I love this show. I watch it almost every night as I'm falling asleep (goofy, no?). I like everyone on it, including Julia. She doesn't seem bitchy to me, but maybe it's because I'm German also.

Really a great concept, well executed.

I love all of the PBS cooking shows, Martha, John Besh. They actually show you hiw to cook instead of someone showing someone else cooking. Their skill levels are better

I thinks it's a good show and outshines anything on the Food Network but so e of the recipes are too much work. Also, I eat less carbs so most of the recipes are no good for me. It still entertains me.

Julia laughs like the Pillsbury Dough Boy

It's interesting that they feature a male chef every once in a while (I recall two or three in recent years) but they're rarely heard from again. I've read that they have a lot of turnover at the magazines (CI and CC); probably on the TV shows (at least behind the scenes) as well.

Jack and the taste tests are the only good thing about the show.

Kimball is one of the all time nasty creeps.

I just want to smack Chris's smug, patrician face.

My husband turned me on to this show. It is fascinating. They were measuring tortilla thickness with a goddamn caliper for god's sake, it was great.

Chris Kimball used to be morbidly obese. I think that's why he has that voluminous waddle. He comes off as passive-aggressive and a snide, almost Asperger-y. We call him the old maid in britches (TM Margaret Mitchell). We love Brigit because she's the only one who gives it back to him.

Beware of subscribing to the magazine or joining their website. CC and ATK are the kind of outfits that will automatically sign you up for a book club and other subscriptions (charging your credit card), and they make opting out difficult. We were also charged for a magazine subscription twice and received two copies of each mag for a year despite trying to cancel. My husband let it slide because they're PBS and non-commercial, but it was still a little sleazy.

Chris dresses like Orville Reddenbacher

ATK can be a bit annoying, but honestly, you do get the most useful information and inspiration from this show. It's much better than any other cooking show out there. The only other one that comes close is Ina. Don't even get me started on Alton Brown, who manages to take all the joy out of cooking with his attitude that his way is the only way.

Martha Stewart is really great on PBS cooking series.

I would LOVE to abandon my career to work at ATK. I live in the Boston area and I could easily do it. Of course, they'd never hire someone like me who lacks experience in food science. But I can still dream.

America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country are easily the best cooking shows on air today.

CK's uptight attitude is part of the shtick. The others come across as bubbly to offset CK.

I feel sorry for some of the bitter queens upthread who called him greedy. He's worked hard, VERY hard, for everything he has. He's a graduate of Columbia. About 25 years ago he took over a similar food-tasting/food-testing magazine that was failing, revamped it, and made it a successful enterprise. It now provides steady, good-paying jobs for over 100 people, who would otherwise likely have low-paying tenuous jobs as line cooks and restaurant managers. Yeah, that's evil for you. *rolling eyes*

My favorite cook is Brian Roof. He's straight and married but he's still adorable.

I don't care for Erin McMurrer either. I think she only appears on Cooks Country though, and not very often at that. She seems so dour and unfriendly.

I've subscribed to a number of their products, print and digital, and have never had a problem like r53 described.

My one qualm about the enterprise is that they slice and dice their content to maximize revenue more than I'd like. But, hey, that's their right.

You got them confused R28. It's Bridget whose food Chris constantly praises and hardly gives no compliments to Julia. I've notice that for years watching the program since 2000. I love the show and has made some of the recipes which all came out great. Chris does seems uptight and comes across like a jerk but he isn't as irritating as those idiots on the Food Network. Julia is by far my favorite to watch. For some reason I can't stand Bridget and I change the channel when her segment comes on. I've always got the impression that Chris favors Bridget over Julia.

Chris looks like he'd be really fun in bed and I like his height. He *can* be quite pissy on the show, but so does Martha on hers.

The best PBS show is that Scandinavian cooking one. I like that Norweigian guy named Andreas. he seems to have an unexpected like of camp. There was an episode where he dressed in a *very* gay old sailor suit on tall ship "manned" by *very* butch Nordic women. it was like a Ken Russel film come to life.

The danish guy on the Copenhagen segments on that show is the one who runs that acclaimed Noma place I think. He's kinda sexy but oh. so. LOUD.

Ryan Scott is the best of them.

The others at ATK are supervisory personnel. You never meet the people who do the real work. Ryan likes stuff cause he likes it and does it.

I agree with R53. I found subscribing to the magazine to be a very weird ride. The magazine would stop publishing, re-publish previous issues, and send two copies of some issues. And good look getting customer service to respond.

Chriatopher Kimball gives ne the creeps. And their recipes (yes I briefly subscribed to the mag) are 10 pages long. I want food, not a chemistry lesson.

Back before the dawn of recorded history, David Rosengarten had a show on the Food Channel entitled "Taste." He took a single dish, e.g. seviche or roast lamb or chocolate chip cookies, deconstructed it, and then showed how to do it the definitive way to maximize flavor. I wonder if a certain tall, thrice-married Vermonter saw those early shows, and thought it'd be a good idea to take it a few steps further? Not that I'm not a fan of ATK, but just a little curious.

I watch the show every chance I get.

I love this show and Cook's Country, wach it every night on Create. I've learned a lot of tips and gotten some great recipes from the show. Yes, they're more involved than other recipes, but the nice thing about ATK is they explain why you should do what you think is an unnecessary step.

I got the ATK cookbook as a Christmas gift. I've made at least a half dozen things following these recipes. And they were all keepers. Well, maybe one was a little weak. It's because these recipes were TESTED, unlike the ones you find on the Food Network website.

Oh, and I think Bryan Roof is adorkable.

When does a new season start? All I ever see are reruns.

Wish I knew, R89. My PBS station (don't know about others) never seems to show new episodes, just the same ones over and over again. ATK is on season 14 and I haven't seen any of the new episodes.

the new season has started but are labeled as repeats so just set the dvr to record repeats and you should be fine

From the ATK recipe book, I've tried the Filipino Chicken Adobo, Skillet Chicken and Broccoli with Ziti, the Eggs Benedict, and the Home Fries. Also I've made the Ragu Alla Bolognese with homemade pasta. The homemade pasta was something I've always been afraid to try my hand at, but it turned out great and it was fairly easy (though time consuming). All of these recipes were keepers. That's really the best track record I've ever had for a cookbook thus far.

The ATK cookbook is very helpful and straightforward.

One show I really like is New Scandinavian Cooking, which airs every so often on PBS. The food looks really good and the host is cute too.

I've tried the home fries recipe too, as well as their yellow cake recipe and the shepherd's pie. Good stuff.

R93 I live New Scandinavian Cooking too, the host's name is Andreas Viestad. Makes some interesting dishes, but I'm not a big game or fish eater, so I haven't tried any of his stuff yet. But he's always entertaining, love the landscapes too.

You can download and print out the recipes from the current season of both Cook's Country and ATK. If you do that every year, you won't need to shell out for the cookbook.

Oh, and there's also Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country magazines.

Can someone tell me what the hell the difference is from America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country? Aren't they one and the same?

Cook's Country (same name for both the show and the magazine) is sort of the middlebrow/lowbrow cousin of Cooks Illustrated/ATK (magazine and show, respectively.) Think more comfort food, down-home type recipes, etc.

The ATK cookbook taught me how to make perfect hard boiled eggs with now greenish-gray color around the yolk.

Chris Kimball is such a dick. I remember they recently tasted goat cheese & he was just so pretensious about it. I mean, it's cheese get a fucking life.

Then they actually had a segment on the perfect grilled cheese. Like that needed to be tested. It's cheese & bread there's no screwing it up.

I like all the sciene behind the cooking & the equipment testing, but it can get really snobbish.

I look up tv listings online (TitanTV) and it gives the original air dates and I have yet to see any eps after September, 2013. But it might just be my PBS station (which has never ending pledge drives but never shows new episodes of anything.)

In spite of Kimball's irritating personality I love both ATK and CC. They are by far the most informative cooking shows on TV and recipes I've tried from the shows or the cookbooks, although sometimes time-consuming, always turn out well--their testing pays off for us who enjoy cooking and eating.

Privileged he may be, but Kimball has been hugely successful and made pots of money on these enterprises. But you get very little without paying for it--and to agree with R53, they are way too aggressive in marketing and unresponsive if you don't buy in. E.g. simply because I subscribe to CI and ordered one cookbook, they sent me another unsolicited, and even had the gall to think I would pay the return postage when I didn't want it! (ultimately I didn't, though the whole exercise was a royal pain). They don't want to speak with you; they do want more of your money, and customer "service" is a joke.

It's pretty clear that all the personalities on the programs work in fear of Kimball. Despite his feeble attempts at camaraderie and modesty, he is a controlling taskmaster (those asinine food costumes--"look at me!!") only underscoring the hugeness and fragility of his ego. And despite his summering there as a kid and now owning land there, he is NOT originally a Vermonter--he's from Westchester County, NY--but that doesn't fit the image he pushes.

Why doesn't Adam ever comb his hair anymore? It always looks so unkempt, dry, and overgrown.

Just got Cooking For Two The Year's Best Recipes Cut Down to Size by The Editors at America's Test Kitchen.

Very nice cookbook, has a lot of great recipes cut down for 2 people. Yeah, yeah I know, it's not difficult to halve a recipe, but I like the idea of it already scaled down to a perfect sized meal for myself and my partner. This is the first cookbook I've bought for my Kindle and I like how easy it is to browse and select a recipe. A little on the expensive side for a cookbook ($20 for the Kindle version) but not surprising. Still, it was worth it.

Watching ATK right now and poor Adam is trying to interest Chris in a discussion about vegetable peelers and Chris looks like he's picturing setting Adam on fire. Really? As much money as Kimball is making and he can't fake a little interest?

I suspect the baby frau gadget girl is going to replace Adam soon.

America’s Test Kitchen has a new host — two of them

The executives behind “America’s Test Kitchen” have turned to a couple of familiar faces to replace Chris Kimball, the popular host who presided over the TV show since its inception in 2001.

Parent company Boston Common Press plans on Thursday to unveil the new hosts of the public television show: longtime cast members Julia Collin Davison and Bridget Lancaster. The executive food editors are regulars as test cooks on the show but have only appeared together once.

Fans of “America’s Test Kitchen” won’t notice big changes anytime soon. That’s because the 2016 season was already shot when the company revealed in November that Kimball and public television’s top-rated cooking show would part ways, ostensibly because of a contract dispute. Kimball will continue to appear throughout the season that’s airing this year.

Davison and Lancaster will start filming the 17th season of the show at its Brookline studio in May, but those episodes won’t air until 2017.

Kimball also hosts “Cook’s Country,” but executives haven’t yet said who will replace him after this year’s season. The next round of filming for that program isn’t scheduled to start until the fall.

There's a scene in the opening credits of "Cook's Country" where the entire staff is around the table, including both ladies (with their hair atypically down) are sitting next to each other.

My niece and nephew met Bridget recently at a book convention. She was incredibly nice and sweet to them. You weren't supposed to get autographs unless you stood in the special book-signing line a building away, but she signed their programs. Also asked them questions about themselves. I'm totally a fan.

I think that's what Kimball wanted us to think, that the two women were always fighting over him. I see it differently.

I don't think Bridget gives a damn. She is always a little aloof around Kimball and when he tries to get in some of his unsubtle digs, her attitude is, yeah, whatever, Chris. She has been given quite a few perks that undoubtedly enhanced her income, like the radio show and the video cooking series.

Julia takes everything very seriously. She doesn't like Kimball and has complained about his snide little insults and overall negative attitude. She would probably love for him to be gone. Her weird husband has been on the show a few times and he made it rather clear he doesn't like Kimball.

This letter from Jack Bishop was disseminated this weekend announcing the new hosts of ATK (Bridget and Julia). Kimball will be around this season (2016), but he will be gone in the 2017 season.

There were a couple of things that stood out to me. First, I wasn't aware that Jack co-founded Cook's Illustrated with Kimball and the other is that I wasn't aware Jack Bishop is Creative Director.

If Bishop is crying crocodile tears over Kimball's departure, it isn't evident from the tone of the letter.

I've just watched a new episode and I'm having a hard time coming to terms with Bridget's mermaid hair. I am, however, comforted by the fact that she still mispronounces "onion."

After the first couple of Kimball-free episodes, R179, I would have agreed with you, but I think Bridget and Julia have settled in their new roles well. While I like her, I think they should spin off the African-American woman who often ends the show (I cannot remember her name to save my soul, although I can picture her...) into an ATK For Kids type of show as her recipes (Snickerdoodles, etc.) are a bit simplistic -- but perfect for budding Julias and Dans.

The recipes they feature on the show have really gone downhill since Kimball left. The whole show has been dumbed down.

The banter between the two blondes is even worse than the "flirty" banter that was initiated by Kimball. Also, the dishes they cook these days are boring.
