He played a rather convincing pussyhound on Y&R. He was also in some TV movie as a ladykiller type during his peak. Didn't see it, so I don't know how convincing he was in that.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 20, 2011 2:59 AM |
It was reported he died of a heart attack, not AIDS. I read a lot of soap interviews and remember the actor who played his dad (Ì'm forgetting his name) commenting that Terry really regretted leaving his Y&R role in time. He was also a very unhappy man with a lot of issues.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 20, 2011 3:05 AM |
He was on Y&R at the same time as Michael Damian, Thom Bierdz and Michael Corbett. There's got to be some stories.

[quote]I read a lot of soap interviews and remember the actor who played his dad (Ì'm forgetting his name) commenting that Terry really regretted leaving his Y&R role in time. He was also a very unhappy man with a lot of issues.
I believe that the actor is Jerry VerDorn or something similar.
I read an interview that Lester did a year or two after leaving Y&R. He indicated that he hadn't wanted to, "but when it comes down to you or the boss's daughter, what do you do?" That's more or less a reconstruction of the quote. Lauralee Bell was being positioned as a major player on the show and his character was suffering. I'm sure there's more to what occurred, yet that's what he revealed.
It wasn't until a few years ago -- long after his death -- that I read he was gay.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 20, 2011 3:34 AM |
[R10] Jerry Douglas played his dad. Jerry verDorn is probably close in age to how old Terry would be now, and is now on OLTL after years on Guiding Light.
He was livid that Lauralee Bell was made the star of the show, and it basically got him fired. He did eventually apologize to the Bells, but the damage was done.
He was on ATWT for a while, but it was a very odd character and story. And of course played Mason too.
[R9] I remember hearing that Don Diamont was also bi, at least "on set" and would welcome a BJ from his male costars.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 20, 2011 3:46 AM |
The actor who played the Dad was Jerry Douglas.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 20, 2011 3:56 AM |
He paid visits to the Y&R set years after leaving and the crew seemed genuinely happy to see him. That speaks highly of him in my book. Plus, he was a damn good Jack.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 20, 2011 7:18 AM |
When he left Santa Barbara, where he played Mason Capwell, he left in a hurry. He didn't even finish the days scenes. He was replaced in mid episode by Gordon Thompson.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 20, 2011 4:10 PM |
Fun fact: Jerry Douglas played the radio interviewer in Mommie Dearest for the Christmas visit with the Crawfords.

Something happened where he was beaten pretty badly by a hustler. That is when he had his first heart attack He was never the same aft that.

Jack was like a daytime version of J.R. A weirdly loveable character. I guess I'm not surprised that the actor himself had a dark side because he certainly gave Jack a convincing one.

I don't like the pornographic vibe of this thread. Terry was a soulful and fascinating actor.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 16, 2013 3:05 AM |
I was straight up in love with Terry Lester as Jack Abbott when I was young! He did not "seem" gay whatsoever. Not even a smidge. He was deliciously bad, but in a likable way, which I feel is an indication of his acting skill.
When he left Y&R that was it for me. I gave up soaps cold turkey and never looked back. Only a year ago I was thinking of him and looked him up on The Goo'. I was so sad to see that he had died of AIDS. I don't mean because it was a disappointment that he was gay, but because I really liked him.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 16, 2013 8:09 AM |

Terry Lester was hot n heavy with Susan Newman, daughter of Paul Newman
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 16, 2013 7:11 PM |
RE 36 - Hunt Block was so sexy, in that handsome, Frankensteiny way. Wasn't he like 6' 4". ? Anyway, beautiful body, great smile. I always remember the local LA a.m. Show, with Christina Ferrere , having Hunt on , and how she kept flirting with him , on camera, and telling the audience how good looking, and muscular he was, to the extent you wanted to say, oh Christina, just fuck him right now. Now she's Oprah's Montecito neighbor, and best friend - think she's gonna have a food show, on OWN.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 16, 2013 7:20 PM |
Hunt is now 60 ! Still a sexy daddie (or grandaddy). Sadly, on IMDB, one of his last roles was 'middle aged man'. Still think he has one of the all time best names.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 16, 2013 7:32 PM |
I stopped watching after he left his Jack was the real Jack Abbott. Peter Bergman is too pretty and plays the role as Víctor Neman's bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 16, 2013 8:26 PM |
Lester had a major case of jungle fever. He liked 'em big and black. I obliged his little hairy white ass any time he asked. I fucked him bow-legged (while the chimp ate out my hairy asshole) in the back of the Ark II wagon one evening on the shag carpeting. He came so hard he knocked the asian girl's contact lense out of her eye.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 16, 2013 8:32 PM |
Yes! Terry Lester's Jack was Victor's equal. Peter Bergman's is a whiny second banana to Victor. Terry was a great actor and very sexy. I also cannot stand the current Jill, she is nothing like Jill should be, they should just kill the character off IMO.

r46 I'm not a JFP fan, but you've got it backwards. Maria Arena Bell dropped Jess Walton from the show completely.
JFP brought her back to the show, albeit on recurring status.

I remember how annoying TL was during those long Abbott breakfast scenes they were so fond of doing. He'd smack his lips and lick his fingers-disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 16, 2013 11:15 PM |
r14, that was intentional. Typical SB kookiness and parodying soap cliche. I believe Terry Lester fell down in a scene and Gordon Thomson instantly got up and continued the scene as Mason; Nancy Lee Grahan did a doubletake to the camera.

He was starting to look thin and sickly when he was on ATWT.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 16, 2013 11:32 PM |
r21 - Lane Davies originated the role of Mason Capwell. Terry Lester took over from him (ironic since Mason was loosely based on Jack Abbott, even boinking his stepmother Gina). Gordon Thomson was the third and final actor to play the role.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 16, 2013 11:32 PM |
Terry had incredible scenes with Elizabeth Hubbard on ATWT. I find both of these actors mesmerizing. They are why we watch these shows.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 17, 2013 12:06 AM |
He was great opposite Brenda Dickson and the lesser discussed Jill: Deborah Adair (who is one of my favorites). I just remember him trying to seduce her wearing one of those short silk robes and calling her "step-mommy" while doing it. He was very sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 17, 2013 12:14 AM |
He was indeed. Beautiful blonde hair, great body. Casting him and Eileen Davidson as siblings on Y&R was incredibly well realized - there was such a resemblance there, not only in appearance but both had that self-contained quality.
I also adored his sibling on ATWT - Mary Kay Adams. Another fascinating actress. They were so incredibly SWEET together. I miss Terry so much. Peter Bergman has been playing Jack for two decades now and he still isn't Jack to me.
Here's that Terry/Mary Kay clip:

From interview with Jeanne Cooper about Terry:
[quote]MICHAEL: Terry Lester, you say, is one of your favorite actors to ever grace Y&R, and that you have worked with. You also talk about the differences between his Jack Abbott and how Peter Bergman plays the part. What was it about Terry that you think was so unique and special? JEANNE: Terry was not afraid to step out of the box and try anything. He had his dark side and shadows, but then most creative people do. Terry was incredibly creative and sensitive, and he was a very special person. I thank God he was part of my life, even how brief it was. But I met Doug Marland (the late head writer of ATWT) through him. Doug Marland said he would create a role for me as my contract was coming up and things were happening. I said. “If you write the part, I will do it.” I even said, “I would come to New York to do it.” And he went home and had a heart attack and I died. As for Terry, he nailed Jack Abbott. It was like a Gig Young playing the part of a second banana, or a Tony Randall. It’s such amazing parts of my life. What a very rich and fulfilling life I have had, through the life of Katherine Chancellor!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 17, 2013 12:24 AM |
Classic scene where John banishes Jack from the family. Terry rips my heart out!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 17, 2013 12:30 AM |
Terry was great, initially, on ATWT.
Then Doug Marland died and the story went all fubar. But for a while, with Mary Kay Adams, Terry, and Liz Hubbard...
...well, that's as good as any repertory theater.

She's apparently somewhat recovering... read online they removed a breathing apparatus, so she must have been incredibly ill. Congestive heart failure, maybe?

Hunt Block is straight and comes from wealth.
He's married with kids but flaggrantly cheats. He had a torrid romance with Cady McClain while they were both on ATWT.
His wife and kids lived in the country while he stayed shacked up in the city with Cady.

From 1981 People Magazine
No, Susan Kendall Newman (Paul's daughter by first wife Jacqueline Witte) isn't giving her actor boyfriend, Terry Lester, the boot. She's just kicking up her heels in her New York apartment after a belated 29th-birthday bash hosted by Dad and stepmom Joanne Woodward. Terry, a/k/a Jack Abbott on The Young and the Restless, celebrated along with Polly Bergen and Robert Altman, who directed Susan in 1978's The Wedding. Now an Avon beauty consultant, Susan gets a kick from champagne—especially drunk out of the Lalique goblet Terry gave her.

Terry supposeldy dated co-star Eileen Davidson at one point, lol.
I loved how his Jack called the horrible Michael Damian's character 'Danny Ravioli'.
The Bells are such stupid people, they had a great show and then let Lauralee Bell be the center piece. It would not have mattered if she was another Meryl Streep, it was wrong to shove her down everyone's throats and the actors who kissed her arse (LeBlanc, Bregman, etc) are sickening and still employed there.
But...Terry would have made a great recast of Andy Norris on GL had he lived, circa 1990.

And the actress who played Patty's mother, Mary Conwell, I think it was, I should look it up, she was a trip. And the actress who played Jill's mother, we would always call her the rabbit, lol. Living in Southern Ontario at the time, we had access to The Buffalo Courier Express (newspaper). My dad picked up the Sunday editions, and there was a column that covered the soap scene and behind the scene as well. In the 70s, can't remember what year, there was a column nothing that Y&R was moving from a 30-minute show to a full hour in the fall.
At that time I was a teenager, a loyal watcher on CHCH TV, and even at that time the show was always broadcast a day ahead of CBS. During a break of the program, one of the local broadcasters, Vic Cummings iirc, would talk about things happening around town, and at the end or beginning of his spiel he would often comment about Y&R, quite a queeny guy as I recall, handsome to boot!
Anyhow, I sent him a letter, with article included, informing him Y&R would be 60 minutes in a few months, and signed my name as a female, "Rachel Young" - my clever way as a youth of using Y&R in my alias. I didn't sign with my real male name because I didn't think I would be taken as a serious viewer, not because I was worried to be exposed as a gay teenage Y&R watcher.
Imagine my shock when my letter was read over the air one afternoon - wish we had VCR's at that time!

Re: Vic Cummings, CHCH TV, 1970s.
There was one episode where Terry and Brendad were in bed together, "making love", and there was a very brief millisecond shot where Jill's nipple was clearly visible above as she shuffled the covers. I was shocked!
During the break, and before Vic Cummings went into the local stuff happening around town, commented on the nip-slip by saying something to the effect of, "I think we just saw a little bit more than we were supposed to see". I was laughing and this confirmed that I was correct in what I saw.
