How popular are Netanyahu and his cabinet right now in Israel?

We're hearing very little about it.

Golda Meir was ousted after the Yom Kippur War caught Israel by surprise in the early 70s. I'm surprised that hasn't happened with Netanyahu and Oct. 7th.

Not very but there is no way for elections to take place unless Bibi's right wing coalition collapses (there is no sign of that happening). Outside of that, the next elections are scheduled for 2026.

He needs to go.

by Anonymousreply 2April 28, 2024 2:06 AM

Very unpopular. The Israeli people are out protesting on the streets in their tens of thousands demanding that elections are held and that the government and IDF concentrate of getting the hostages returned - which they are not doing.

Netanyahu and his government are only going to be removed kicking and screaming because they know they will lose the next election in a landslide and it will be the end of Netanyahu's political career. It can't come soon enough because he has been an rigid obstacle to peace and a two state solution for decades.

Why would 'Hamas' incur the wrath of the Israeli (and U.S.?) military? It's like a child poking a hornet nest. Totally reckless and insane. What was there to gain?

It's for this reason that from the beginning I've seen it as a false flag operation. Paid mercenaries launching a fake attack. They just want to push the Palestinians into the sea.

I realize I'll be banned for this post, so see ya Tuesday.

Stupid media would rather focus on the fake demonstrations in the USA, than report on the HUGE real demonstrations all over Israel. Netanyahu ought to be in prison, not restored to power. I read a few days ago that his Head of Intel/Security had finally been fired. I guess the guy has been scapegoat for the October 7th attacks. But Bibi was told repeatedly, more than a year ago, that the attacks would happen, and was given specific information as to how and where. His own Intel people, and the Egyptians, Turkey and the U.S. so Bibi knew. He is vile.

R4, have you noticed that Hamas fully acknowledges that they took hostages on Oct. 7, have released some, and still have a bunch of them in captivity? And that Hamas has a long history of poking that particular hornets' nest, as you put it? Your theory is based on total ignorance.

He’s extremely popular and is going no where.

Tamir Morag of Channel 14 reports that the Israeli government has received word that the top echelon of the Israeli government and IDF will receive idictments from the ICC within the next week or so.

The individuals to be indicated include Netanyahu, Gallant, and Halevi. But the list will not stop there. They will likely be charged with crimes against humanity.

Despite his bravado about the ICC, I am hearing from sources that Netanyahu is very nervous about the high likelihood that they will issue arrest warrants. At this point, it appears that that is inevitable.

[bold] While the ICC cannot arrest anyone, all court members are obligated to hand over individuals with warrants against them. So if served, that could stop anyone served from going to 124 countries. Basically, all important nations on earth aside from the United States, China, India, and a few Arab states (and Israel, of course). [/bold]

Most importantly, it would be a nightmare for Israel's international image. Russia and Sudan have had warrants issued for their leaders. But no Western democracy ever has. This is yet another piece of diplomatic fallout from the war. The clock the international community set for this conflict long expired.

Now, Israel finds itself fighting in the ICJ and soon the ICC. This will embroil Israel in a multi-year legal and diplomatic nightmare. Netanyahu is reportedly very concerned about this and thinks he can avoid some of these warrants by delaying an invasion of Rafah even further. That seems to be the main consideration right now—stopping an operation—far more than the US or Egypt.

Israel would be running kosher ovens and de-lousing showers if they could get away with it, people are so stupid.

by Anonymousreply 12April 28, 2024 5:23 AM

R12 Dumb ass. It was Palestinians who decided to murder, kidnap and rape their way through Israeli communities. Never mind the rockets aimed at Israeli civilians year after year. That’s what brought us here today. Had Israel desired, Gaza could have been made into a parking lot within a very short amount of time.

The goal of Hamas is to wipe Israel off of the map. If people tell you they are genocidal believe them.

Release the hostages, flee or surrender and this would be done with today. Hamas needs to go or we will back here in 6 to ten months.

Then, Netanyahu will go.

Historically, since the creation of the state of Israel, the country has been surrounded by hostile nations determined to erase it from existence. And Israel, with help from the United States and other nations has withstood attacks for decades, fought back militarily, and over time with help from the International diplomatic community, led by the United States, has negotiated peace deals with the Arab countries acknowledging Israel's right to exist.

has been missing from the conversation is the role and the participation of Russia in the MIddle East. Russia has always been a rogue nation determined to exploit and destabilize situations for their own gain. Through it's surrogates/client states, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon, to name the top three, they have actively worked to prevent anything resembling a lasting peace. They have gained a financial hold over Hamas, Hezbollah, and groups in Yemen, cells all over the Middle East sponsoring, financing and enabling terrorist acts. (Right now, this also shifts world attention and resources away from Ukraine.)

Right now, in this moment the Arab nations in the MIddle East are divided, between those working with Russia and others trying to hold the line and assist in negotiating a peaceful resolution. Netanyahu is making it very difficult. To the degree he persists in his scorched earth policy, he is eroding the ability of nations like Jordan, Egypt, the Saudis, Qatar, and other nations to hold the line. The Palestinians are pawns in the new Cold War. In a way, Israel, thanks to Netanyahu's belligerence and his predictability, is being enticed into a corner where it's own survival is at stake thanks to Bibi's hubris.

Things are not as simple and as clear as they were back in the 60's and 70's.
