I suddenly want to visit Old Williamsburg. I love American history and I want to visit some historical points of interest related to revolutionary times.

Ever been to Boston or Philly?

Williamsburg real estate is overpriced. More history and cheaper prices in Newport News!

Annapolis may be the prettiest town in all America.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 27, 2024 7:40 PM |
Unfortunately, it is filled with Marylanders.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 27, 2024 7:41 PM |

When I get there I want to re-enact some colonial period domestic situations. Like relaxing on a warm summer night, naked

I'm told they are now showcasing the forgotten history of trans differently-abled people of colour in colonial Virginia,

Very expensive filled with affluent families. Not that great.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 28, 2024 1:00 AM |
Can we stop at Cracker Barrel on the way?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 28, 2024 1:37 AM |
It's not really American history as such. It was veterans of the Duke of Marlborough's German campaigns who were responsible for its look and planning. It was Alexander Spotswood and his military clique who gave Virginia a decidedly cantonment feel at Williamsburg and who was largely responsible for the Crown making the effort to assert its authority more aggressively in the new world.

What’s all this talk about living there? OP wants to visit and take in the history. It’s great, you should visit, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 28, 2024 11:38 AM |
R24: NO one's talking about living there. The rich people are the tourists. Everyone looks like an ad from the Sunday NYT Magazine. The food is very expensive. It also seemed very twee and pretentious. I was there because of a meeting at William and Mary. No desire to ever go again.

It has great gardens. So going in the spring is wonderful. Definitely worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 28, 2024 12:29 PM |
R25 I’m that demographic. I guess I’ll plan on it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 28, 2024 7:10 PM |
