Buying ungodly amounts of overpriced technology. I'm going broke!

When I was younger I thought financial stability would be my main concern as I aged. Now that I'm old, I'm fairly secure financially, but I worry about political instability...which is taking a toll on my mental health.

I tapped Financial Stability before I saw Health, but I think if one has financial stability it is far easier to attain everything else on the list.

#1 Priority -Coffee in the morning, must drink coffee.
My very large pot of Trader Joes French Roast, Italian roast or Dark Roast coffee with a shot of expresso.
I'm not a nice person until I have coffee in the morning. Then I walk the dogs on the beach, and the cats tell at me.

I wouldn't say mental stability but I would say personal growth and development. I had childhood trauma that I only recognized and started working on rigorously in my early fifties, once I had not only the awareness of it but also the time and financial resources to do so. So that's been my big priority

My diet is a huge focus. I spend a lot of time shopping and doing food prep. I'm still working full-time. Keeping my fridge & pantry stocked feels like a part-time job.

As I neared retirement it was financial security that I prioritized. Post-retirement it was physical health. When my older brother was diagnosed with dementia - the same disease that took my mother - I began prioritizing mental health. And whenever I start thinking I'm losing my faculties, I come to DL to read some of the crazy shit you guys post here and realize I'm doing just fine.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 1, 2024 2:24 AM |
I have financial stability so I prioritize my pets.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 1, 2024 2:33 AM |
Physical Health, then sex. I still have plenty of drive - something comes with physical health, along with enhanced appearance and mental health
Food is a part of that there's a few foods I tend to avoid mainly cos I dont like the taste (mainly cured meats like ham, salami etc) and very sweet stuff, plus over sweetened sodas (Coke et al), otherwise I mainly just eat what I like in moderation and do a couple hours exercise a day.
Drinking is not a priority at all, I dont drink, and I am financially stable- not wealthy but enough to support a lifestyle that doesnt involve new cars or expensive designer clothes or anything much like that. I do travel a bit though

Spirituality.
I worship matter.
My epiphany happened one day when I realized that the physical matter I was born into wasn’t made just for me.
When it sunk in that the Universe, Earth and my immediate surroundings were here billions of years before I was conceived and born and will be here billions of years after I die, I had a spiritual reality check.
Everything else falls into place.
